Are you needing some guidance with routines and keeping up on housework? This is the thread for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

character staying dry when camping really helps, although for me it's not so fun when it's cold.

Ditzy you've had a busy day! I'm still struggling to fit exercise in my routine 🤦‍♀️ I know I feel better when I do it too. Thank you for the reminder!

I worked today so not much of anything got done at home.
I had to go rescue DH after work though. He got a flat tyre on his motorcycle so I had to go home, get the trailer and pick him & his bike up. Of course I'm not the one who usually hooks up the trailer to my Jeep and dropped the damn thing pulling out of my driveway 🤦‍♀️ no damage done, other than to my pride! Our neighbours came out to help me but I got it in the end.

We had SIL & her DH come over for dinner tonight. They have their wedding reception in less than 2 weeks and I had to go over a few things with them.
I'm the planner of the family usually, but this isn't my event so took a back seat. They hadn't even thought of plates and cups etc! I think I've got to step up & make sure they have things figured out by this weekend. I'm scared for them!

Tuesday is plan & play day.
We are moving into the kitchen, zone 2.
Tuesday's mission is to go through at least one shelf of your pantry. Or food cupboard, whatever you have. Donate to your local food shelter what is still good to eat but you won't eat. Toss anything OOD or stale (or open, but you can't quite remember the last time you ate any of it).
Set your timer for 15 minutes, no need to spend all day doing this.

Baby Step: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-4/
Keep doing what we've been doing so far. When looking at her website write notes on sticky notes and place them around your house as reminders on what to do. These notes are the start of your control journal.

Character I have made that fatal mistake many, many times!

It's early here, so my day is just beginning. I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to achieve today, although I did already sign up for the communication with DSs school band etc, as I have been putting it off and forgot about it! Hopefully I'll be getting information soon about fundraisers etc that should be happening soon (if not going on now!).

To dos:
🐶 return dress (drop off at UPS store)
🐶 take dogs to groomer
🐶 bathe dogs
🐶 make cheesecake for wedding (put in freezer)
🐶 help SIL & MIL with wedding favours & go over other details with them for the wedding, since I mentioned things last night that hadn't even been thought of yet 🤦‍♀️

The cheesecake may be made later in the day, but with being surrounded by sick people, I'm scared I'll get sick and I won't make food for others when I'm not well. The cupcakes are already made and in my freezer.
I'm excited that my dress should be arriving today! I had ordered one, it came, it was see through, so I'm mailing that back today.
This new dress had a delivery date of Thursday, but just got notified that it's out for delivery today 🥳
If this one doesn't work I'll have to go to the next big town this weekend to find one as there's nothing around here. And there's far too much to do to spend the day dress shopping!

Hazel I don't always want to exercise but I like how strong my body feels for doing it daily

Hope you roused yourself from your afternoon slump Character

HazelNotHungryLC · 05/06/2024 04:58

I do know that feeling Character is just been a while since I've exercised regularly.

Ta das:
👗 sent my dress off for the return
👗 took the dogs to the groomer
👗 bathed the dogs
👗 LOLs x3 (including sheets & towels)
👗 went over to MILs to help her and SIL with flowers for the wedding
👗 my new dress arrived today and this one fits and isn't see through! Yay!
👗 made the base for the cheesecake (for the wedding)
👗 cooked Tuscan chicken for dinner 😋
👗 had DS rotate DW
👗 cleaned up the kitchen, including bleaching the countertops
👗 handwashed dishes
👗 bleached both bathrooms

I've been telling myself to call in sick tomorrow so I can finish the cheesecake, paint my nails & apply self tanner. But, my conscious kicks in and I won't do it. Tempting though 😆

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day.
Wednesday's mission is to go through your fridge and toss anything bad, becoming a science experiment or unidentifiable (hopefully nothing that bad in any of our fridges!).

Baby Step: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-5/
Keep doing the baby steps we have done so far, then think about those negative thoughts stopping you from getting things done. Turn those negative thoughts into positives and write them down where you can see them.

Have a great Wednesday everyone 🍒👋

Love the flower pictures @HazelNotHungryLC . We haven’t got many at the moment, get lots in March/April (primroses, pulmonaria, Spanish bluebells, cherry blossom, daffodils, but not too many now, as the trees (mostly next door’s) come into leaf they make so much shade that not much flowers. We are getting our one tree cut back a lot soon so that should help. We have got a gorgeous foxglove though, they seem to be having a good year they are everywhere around here.

Keeping on top of things here, we have a general rule that DH does more of the daily kitchen stuff, I keep the laundry ticking over, the DCs help with both but I tend to do more of the detailed, mission type jobs as no one else ever notices they need doing I work part time and am at home more. DD is in the middle of A levels so cutting her some slack but she cooks dinner quite often.

I managed to get a couple of anti-procrastination jobs done yesterday, a phone call (had to hold for 50 mins, at about 20 mins I realised I needed to go to the loo but didn’t dare so that was fun) and writing up my professional revalidation, going to check that over at work today and send it off. Also did half an hour picking strawberries and weeding at the allotment after work.

@HazelNotHungryLC I’m really bad at exercising. I go to my yoga classes and walk wherever I can but apart from that I find it really hard to motivate myself. I did daily yoga for a while but not for ages now. I know I should introduce more strength work to future proof myself though!

Also I hope you have managed to avoid the sickness.

Today

Love the flowers!

I put out my hotspots on Monday and cleared off a shelf yesterday. Today is a good day to tidy the fridge as tomorrow is shopping day. It might be bad! Will report back.

HazelNotHungryLC · 05/06/2024 18:00

ED beautiful flowers! 😍 my front garden is very shaded (north facing), so I'm always on the lookout for flowers that like the shade. I found some good ones this year!

Character so far I've not got sick at all <touch wood> My DS is out of school now for the summer, I forget your DC are still in school for a while!

Well done dilly I also find the best day to clear the fridge out is the day I go shopping. I can actually see what's needed then too.

Internet drama here - aka the provider service keeps dropping out.
Slow progress on stuffs being made. Still too much to do.

<waves and hits send before internet drops out again>

HazelNotHungryLC · 06/06/2024 04:12

Oh no Dragons I hope your internet gets fixed soon 🤞

Ditzy what movie did you watch?

ED that looks like a jam packed full day!

So I spoke too soon earlier. My throat started hurting about 5 hours ago, while I was still at work. 2 1/2 hours later I had a low grade fever. I'm currently self medicating with hot toddies (yes, plural), tea and honey. Hopefully I'll feel better by morning. I'm going to have an early night also (it's just gone 9pm here).

I did take some pictures of more flowers today in my garden.. these are Snapdragons that decided to grow up at the side of my house this year!

Thursday is errand day.
Thursday's mission is to declutter under the kitchen sink. Anything you don't use, toss. Organise it if you feel you need to, but chuck anything you won't use/ don't need/ dried up etc.

Baby Step: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-6/
Learn about hotspots & how to put them out (as well as everything else we have done so far). Spend 2 minutes putting out your hotspot in the kitchen. Set a timer so you stop after 2 minutes.

CherryogDog · 06/06/2024 09:19

Hi everyone and thanks for the new thread @HazelNotHungryLC .
I'm still in lurking mode so not posting much.
Last month I tidied my yard, dumped all the dead plants, weeded, washed and scrubbed the papers.
It looks a bit bare now, I need a few more plants to brighten it up.
I've gutted my spare room which was piled high with "stuff", so it's actually usable.
Had another clothes clear out, took bags of clothes to the charity shop and I've kept one box of clothes that I'm hoping I can get back into at some point.
My dining room still looks like a tip, I'm still tripping over the bags of clothes that DP left there weeks ago, he only wants them to go to a specific charity which means a trip into town rather than the Sally Army bin across the road.
The bags are so stuffed I can't lift them.
I'm going to rebag the lot and take them over the road when he's not here.
Have great days everyone!

CabbageBearGoat · 06/06/2024 11:32

I'll be properly fly ladying from tomorrow as we've been away since end of May, but staying with very tidy and organised friends has me inspired! Hoping to replace our ancient white plastic sink for a stainless steel one for a start...

TheMainCharacter · 06/06/2024 13:16

@CherryogDog Ithink I’d do the same with the clothes!

Loving all the flower pics. So far all that’s going ok here are the strawberries. Looks like we have one carrot and one chilli plant and everything else has failed. We did have two pumpkin plants and a courgette plant start growing but they got munched 🐌

Tadas
🍓morning routine
🍓school run
🍓hotspot
🍓fold and put away lol
🍓hang up lol
🍓go to Lidl for the bits I buy there
🍓vacuum downstairs
🍓clean kitchen cupboard tops
🍓clean top of fridge
🍓clean kitchen cupboard fronts
🍓clean surface of extractor fan
🍓tidy under sink cupboard a bit
🍓read book for an hour

I reeeeeally need to mop the floors but I equally don’t want to!

TheMainCharacter · 06/06/2024 13:17

@HazelNotHungryLC how are you feeling?

HazelNotHungryLC · 06/06/2024 16:46

Sing it sounds like you had a great time away! I hope your meeting goes well.

Cherry I don't blame you for taking the bags where you want them. I feel like DH has had plenty of time to get them where he wants them. Especially if these are the same bags you were talking about before.

Cabbage isn't it nice to get inspiration and motivation from others? It's good to see you back

Character I'm sorry to hear about your munched plants! That's disappointing 😞
I'm not feeling the greatest, but I'm at work. I don't feel bad enough to not be here, but the day is still young, we'll see how the rest of the day goes. I didn't have a fever this morning, so that's good
