Are you needing some guidance with routines and keeping up on housework? This is the thread for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Hello, I’ve been lurking but feeling brave enough to wave to you all. Lots of reasons for why house got out of control, accepting and moving forward gently. Today I gutted the bathroom, did a really deep clean of everything and a massive tidy too. Even put up blinds that have been waiting for ages (I often can’t reach above my head).
I also organised an ikea boxes/unit at front door for children to store their own school bags…coats and shoes go in individual rooms but bags there gives me easy access too. Put up a key rack by door to stop misplacing all my keys.

I didn’t have the energy ti shine sink - but kitchen is being gutted tomorrow and I will start. Tired.

Luddite it sounds like you have been busy!

Welcome @DoctorDolittle 👋 you sound very busy too! It's nice to get those little jobs done, especially when they don't take long to do, but make a big difference.

ED those flowers are really pretty! Costco is never a cheap trip for us, but we don't go very often. I need to get DS to cook more again too. We started him cooking one meal a week, but haven't done it for a while.

Ditzy that's a good movie! You still got things done, so not completely lazy!

My ta das are pitiful today:
🍯 worked all day
🫖 showered as soon as I got home, scrubbed & shaved
🍯 applied self tanner
🫖 warmed up dinner (leftovers)
🍯 made chamomile tea with honey x2
🫖 made hot toddy (about to make a 2nd)
🍯 got my lunch and clothes ready for tomorrow

Feeling like crap, but short staffed tomorrow so can't call in sick 🤧

Friday is clean out your car and purse day.
Friday's mission is to go through your freezer and toss what you won't use, what's freezer burnt etc. If you're not sure what something is you're not going to grab it, so toss that too!

Baby Step: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-7/
Continue with the baby steps so far, but add getting your clothes out for tomorrow to your bedtime routine. I do this every night that I work the next day and it is such a lifesaver!

Thursday
✅prepped a bit more for appt
✅attended appt and booked next one (weekly for now… fun)
✅returned some clothes I’d bought online
✅rotated DW
✅went to tap with DS and found out what he needs for his exam
✅made dinner

Need to get going.

po3.1
🎯breakfast and water
🎯get Cagletini ready for swimming
🎯get dressed

DillyDeclutter · 07/06/2024 12:15

Tidied the fridge on Weds, found what looked like a severed thumb but probably just an elderly carrot

Under the sinks yesterday, some washing liquid that must have moved house with us 15 years ago, but otherwise surprisingly junk free

How long does the cycle last, will we be back to fridge this time next month or does it vary? These little jobs definitely make a difference!

HazelNotHungryLC · 07/06/2024 17:18

Dilly the severed thumb made me laugh! It seems usually there's a fridge sort through every month, but might only be one day. It varies month to month it seems. The kitchen is always zone 2, which could be a full week, depending on what day the 1st lands on. Zone 1 isn't usually a full week.

Sing it looks like you had a productive day yesterday! I hope swimming with Cagletini goes well 😍

OP posts:
DoctorDolittle · 07/06/2024 18:56

I’m going to get my clothes out for tomorrow, tonight.

I’ve completely cleared out a huge storage cupboard today, and started turning it in to a laundry cupboard - it’s large enough that I can leave the ironing board up all the time but has a door I can shut on it all too 😆.

On 3rd LOL, and have cleaned out fridge and cleared all worktops, cleared on top of microwave and freezer too. Am determined to have every worktop clean and the sink shined before I go to bed! Such little things but can seem mountainous.

CabbageBearGoat · 07/06/2024 20:26

Small wins today, still recovering from all the driving yesterday:

Wiped down radiator
Wiped down coffee table
Sorted through holiday post
Collected FBMP item
Rearranged B4 furniture
Helped DW reassemble tripp trapp
Bought padlock for porch meter cupboard
Small weekend food shop
Took car through it's 1st ever automated car wash (so much salt spray from the ferry!)

HazelNotHungryLC · 08/06/2024 06:43

Saturday is family fun day.
There are no missions on the weekend.

I am going over to ILs, with DS, to help get the house & garden sorted for the wedding reception next weekend.
We will then go out to eat for dinner so no one has to cook.

We'll see if I have any ta das for tomorrow.
It looks like you have all been busy flying!

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 09/06/2024 10:09

Friday
✅took Cagletini to her swimming lesson (must actually go swimming with her myself sometime soon!)
✅popped into a coffee morning for a local group (sort of personal sort of networking!)
✅DW

Can’t remember if I managed anything else at all that day, I was exhausted and missed book club so I could go to bed ridiculously early. But I did get home from swimming to discover DD1 had tidied and cleaned the kitchen 💕

Saturday
✅took Cagletini to her dance lesson, got groceries on way back
✅DW
✅cooked dinner
✅cleaned up after dinner including nice shiny sink

SingToTheSky · 09/06/2024 11:00

I really need to have a physically restful day today. Been pushing through the end of the week when I should’ve cancelled stuff but H is here with Cagletini now so I should take the opportunity to actually rest ready for another busy (in a nice way) week. A chronic illness flare up was inevitable after the last couple of months but I don’t seem to be managing it as well as I could because I’m stubborn 🙄

I do need to get some admin done as well, just some bits and pieces I’ve been procrastinating over. As much as I want to not think about any of it I know I’ll relax more if I get some stuff off my epic to do list! So instead of a power of three I’m just going to look through my phone notes and do as many little tasks as I can. Being such an expert procrastinator (it’s a real skill of mine 🤣) there’s plenty of stuff on the list that probably would’ve been just as quick to actually DO as to write down 🙈

HazelNotHungryLC · 09/06/2024 15:17

Sing it sounds like a good idea to give your body a rest and work on non physical to dos.

So yesterday a while bunch of us were working on ILs back garden. We got it all done!
MIL is off all week this week so now she can potter around, moving pots etc, instead of pulling weeds and moving heavy objects around.

Their house still needs a deep clean though. I took my cleaning supplies but they didn't leave my Jeep. I could hope that she will do it this week, but she'd much rather be outside than inside cleaning. So I'm pretty sure that Friday I'll be over there for a couple of hours cleaning.

Anyway, I ended up drinking far too much last night when we went out for dinner. We got our favourite waitress and she brought us all tequila shots on the house. I had to take 2 - mine and DHs! 🤦‍♀️ on the plus side I feel great this morning, a little tired as my sleep was broken last night. I fell asleep on the couch, slept for a couple of hours. Washed my face, brushed my teeth and went to bed, wide awake. I couldn't sleep for 3 hours!

Today I have a few things to do:
☕️ meal planning
☕️ grocery shopping
☕️ outfit shopping with MIL
☕️ bleach the bathrooms
☕️ possibly make the cheesecake as I'm feeling lots better today
☕️ video chat with Mum
☕️ paint my nails (they're looking so bad right now, all chipped)

It's Sunday - renew your spirit day. I'm planning to fit in a yoga session somewhere today too, so that, along with painting my nails, would be renewing my spirit.

Sunday is planning day for me as it works better. Had to set July up in my Bujo already which i prefer not to do so early. But July was starting to get out of control and i needed to get on top of it before i double booked myself.

Been chasing my tail, also badly managing chronic conditions so you have my full sympathy on that sing, increasing the to do list rather than reducing it. But have got to the next hurry up and wait part of the building work so at least that can go on hold and take up less brain space. week and half and that is back on the to do list but for now.

ta da
work on inbox zero
A whole heap of food prep and bathc cooking
project coordination (and all the moving parts - aka other people and their schedules)
good start on planning and prep for the week

Still suspect internet which is still causing drama. But i gotta play taxi in 15mins so need to hussle butt and get the washing up out of the sink as i will need that for food prep when i get back.

ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 09/06/2024 17:52

Nothing much happening yesterday, visit to the park was about all.

Ta-da's today

🌥️ Morning routine
🌥️ Extra laundry
🌥️ Decluttering
🌥️ Decorated new notebook
🌥️ Home blessings

To-do

🌃 Exercise
🌃 Nails
🌃 Evening routine

Felt totally overwhelmed earlier but felt better once I'd done some decluttering

DoctorDolittle · 09/06/2024 19:27

I did a couple of timed 15 min declutters yesterday with breaks after each one, and it’s definitely more gentle than my usual overwhelming do-it-nonstop-till-I-drop which I then put off.
Today I’ve decluttered DD7 and DD5 bedrooms…moved them from joint room to separate so a lot to sort…first night tonight that they’ve ever been apart so we’ll see how it goes.

Big news: my laundry basket is completely empty!!!

HazelNotHungryLC · 10/06/2024 06:10

It sounds like everyone had a great weekend!
Today I only did about half of what I wanted to, but did get my nails done 🥳
I did get my lunch ready for tomorrow and my clothes out ready 😇

I never did get the cheesecake done as I was still having some drainage and I really don't want to pass anything on.

Monday is home bleugh day. Quick vacuum, empty bins, change sheets etc.
We are moving on to zone 3, the bathroom & one other room. This month she wants us to focus on the spare bedroom (but honestly, I would choose whatever other room needs it the most).

Monday's mission is to do a 27 boogie fling, as she likes to call it. Set your timer for 15 minutes, go through the bathroom cupboards etc, throw away empty bottles, things that are broken or no longer used/ needed. You may be done before the 15 minutes is up, try to fit in a 2nd fling.

In the spare bedroom, also do a 27 boogie fling for 15 minutes.

Baby Step #10: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-10/
Set your timer for 15 minutes and go around your house throwing away any rubbish you find. Once you are done, put your feet up for 15 minutes.

I did fail over the weekend and forgot the baby steps carry on, even though there are no missions 🤦‍♀️

Baby Step #9: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-9/

🍒👋 to everyone. Sorry for lack of personals tonight, it's getting late here & I need my sleep.

Emptied kitchen bins

@DoctorDolittle amazing work on the laundry! Hope the split bedrooms went well

Scourgify · 10/06/2024 18:00

Starting again with renewed determination. SW helped move things along last month, but the whole process left me exhausted. I downloaded some housekeeping and cluttering audiobooks at the weekend which helped me get back on track.

Tidied bits of the living-room today then hoovered. Had to trim back some new growth of the tree to keep it from overhanging next door. Very thick and rapid growth this year. Don’t think I’ve seen it like this in any previous year.

Sorted through some paperwork. It’s close to overwhelming me.

EasilyDefined · 10/06/2024 23:06

Welcome back @Scourgify

I have been AWOL for a few days but keeping busy. Lots of laumdry and gardening done. Here is a photo taken yesterday of the sunflowers that didn’t get munched by slugs, they are growing fast now

@EasilyDefined they’re looking good 🌻

@CabbageBearGoat thank you, second night tonight both still happy so fingers crossed.

Today has been busy cleaning and ironing outside the house for my second job…but I still found the energy once in to fit new mattress toppers and protectors to each bed, make a dinner with good leftovers and shine my sink. Will do the decluttering of bathroom tomorrow.
