People who wash their bedding every week . . .

Which exact items are you washing every week?

I took a day of annual leave yesterday to do some tidying and deep cleaning whilst DS was in nursery and did a full change of our bedding which involved 2 laundry loads with pre-soaking both in some Vanish beforehand:

1 x coloured duvet cover
4 x coloured pillow cases

1 x white sheet
1 x white mattress protector
4 x white under pillow cases

It took the best part of a day to get through everything and that was with quite warm weather so everything could dry on the line.

Do people who wash their bedding every week do all of this or are you just doing some items weekly and the rest less frequently?

We have white duvet cover and pillows and coloured sheets and pillows each week . The protectors prob one week in 3 .

Ilovemyshed · 22/03/2024 15:35

I wash four pillowcases, mattress protector, fitted sheet, flat sheet and duvet cover once per week. On the line in summer, tumble in winter then iron.

PansyOatZebra · 22/03/2024 15:46

I just wash them when I remember… I also just throw everything in together no soaking or separates… I’ve never done light or dark colours for anything ever either and never had any problems… life is too short to spend so much time on laundry

facepalmdaily · 22/03/2024 15:54

3 lots of bedding washed and dried every weekend, 1 king, 2 x doubles. Then 4-5 bath sheets every Friday. About 2-3 washes of clothing in the week and probably 1 at the weekend. My house constantly looks like a Launderette. I do try and dry as much of my washing as possible outside, even when it's cold, then I fetch it in and hang it on airers overnight. Roll on warmer wether when it'll be much easier.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 22/03/2024 15:56

All pillowcases, all sheets and duvet cover.

There is only my bed I do every week.

The spare bedding doesn't get washed until someone sleeps in it.

Silvers11 · 22/03/2024 15:59

Sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases once very fortnight ( unless it has been very hot in the summer) - mattress covers etc much less frequently

SoupChicken · 22/03/2024 15:59

Everything is white, it all goes in the washing machine together then in the tumble dryer, no faffing around with presoaking or hanging on the line.

I strip and wash all bedding every 3 days. That includes duvet cover, pillow cases and fitted sheet.

I buy mine in white so I can throw them in the bath with some bleach for 20 minutes at the end of the week.

Why? Seems a lot

TheChosenTwo · 22/03/2024 16:03

Our bed gets changed weekly. King sheet, duvet cover and 4 pillowcases, in the wash and then the dryer. protectors usually the first weekend of the month.
All other beds are done fortnightly by the kids, protectors are done as and when by them.

NotMyFinestMoment · 22/03/2024 16:04

Everything weekly.

charliefair · 22/03/2024 16:04

I don't strip the bed and expect to have the stuff washed, dried and ready to put back on the same day. I throw the stuff in the washing basket and get round to it eventually.

Chewbecca · 22/03/2024 16:14

We always do weekly but it is one wash of one fitted sheet, one duvet cover and two pillowcases. That's all that's on the bed (we only have one pillow each). I don't really understand how you can have so many pillowcases on one bed!

HoHoHoliday · 22/03/2024 16:15

I wash duvet cover, two pillow cases, fitted sheet, all in one wash, once a week. I do them on a 30 minute cycle on a Saturday afternoon and leave draped over a clothes horse overnight, they are dry by morning.
The mattress protector and pillow protectors I do less often, probably about once a month.

DodoTired · 22/03/2024 16:17

I don’t wash mattress protector weekly. Maybe couple of times a year. And I don’t have pillow protectors (I think they are ridiculous)

I just wash pillow cases, sheets and duvet covers weekly

DodoTired · 22/03/2024 16:19

And yes I mix white bedding with all other white stuff and wash it at 60 or 90C. We have a dryer so no issues with drying them

i only have colour bedding for kids and I mix it with other colour stuff

buswankerz · 22/03/2024 16:20

@CactusMactus because it feels like clean bed sheets every day.

Gettingonmygoat · 22/03/2024 16:24

Sheet, plain pillow cases, pillow protectors and mattress protectors are done together one day and duvet cover, patterned pillow cases and 2 pillow protectors are done together the next day. Done every week and line dried, it is rare i can't get the washing outside. The weather dictates which day of the week it goes out.

HouseInTheMiddle · 22/03/2024 16:31

I wash bedding every week. All in one load. I don't pre-soak. Have never used colour catcher sheets, not had a problem with colour runs and I wash on 60.

Kingsize duvet, 5 x pillowcases, kingsize fitted sheet.

ETA, if the weather is good I peg out, this time of year it does take most of the day to dry outside.

Well for a start having white anything is a mistake.

Ours are all coloured. All goes in on one wash, no presoaking or anything like that. Apart from the superking sets, they need splitting in 2 loads. Sheet and pillowcases separate from the duvet cover.

If it’s dry goes on the line, raining goes in dryer. Wash takes about an hour.

I wash all of it, so sheet, cover and pillowcases. But not the protectors.

I rotate the days though. So I’d never do 3 beds in same day.

Ah see my thinking is the opposite! Our bedding is white, and it can then all go in together with some vanish if needed.

The kids bedding is pastel colours so it can all go in together too.

Change all beds every week - fitted sheet, duvet cover and pillowcases. Mattress protectors washed before we go on holiday or away for a long weekend so I can dry them over the bannister while we are gone!

Was feeling a bit smug in a domestic goddess kind of way until I realised that bedding apparently includes pillow and mattress protectors.
I wash duvet cover, sheet and pillowcases every week.
I wash protectors if there is a blue moon or a passing unicorn.
Turns out I am not a domestic goddess.

Well that makes two of us. Only do mattress and pillow protectors if your unicorn is passing my way.

We wash sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases & protectors every week in the Autumn, winter, in the spring and summer the bottom sheets and pillowcases get washed every day, we also have a clean bath towel every night after our shower too!

Fuck me! You must all be shiny clean

Musicaltheatremum · 22/03/2024 16:57

fuckssaaaaake · 22/03/2024 14:17

Fuck allllll of this

Glad it's not just me. 😭😄

iwafs · 22/03/2024 16:59

I don't wash my bedding every week.

But when I do wash it, it takes minimal time. I just put it in the washer and then into the dryer. Then put it back on the bed. 10 mins maximum.

I don't have white bedding, it's not practical.

I don't use stain remover/pre soak or anything like that.

ScrabbleUnoDobble · 22/03/2024 17:01

My bed gets done once a week (the dog comes and lies on it the evening) and the 2 children's beds once a fortnight. 2 king size beds and one double. I only wash mattress protectors and pillow protectors every 2 months. Each bed has 4 pillows on it so I just rotate the pillows when I change the beds so the protectors don't get that grubby. I sometimes do DH's pillow protectors more often because he has a balding head and somehow makes the pillow cases go yellow! 🤮

I can get it all 3 sets of bedding washed in one day when I can be bothered and am at home and not busy. I never soak anything. I tend to do one bedding set in 2 washes as I think it washed it more thoroughly. The cycle is just over an hour and I use Dr Beckmann whitener sachets when needed in the same cycle. I tumble dry some of it but also have 2 large maidens that hang from the ceiling, so use these plus a dehumidifier switched on to laundry mode. I would only wash protectors from one bed at a time though. I have multiple sets of bedding and protectors so there's never a huge rush to get it done quickly!

Nottodaythankyou123 · 22/03/2024 17:11

I wash the pillow cases, duvet covers and bottom sheet/fitted sheet weekly, but not the mattress protector.

They’re all a similar colour so I just chuck all three sets (ours and 2x DD’s) in at the same time. 1hr 20 to wash then 1 hr 45 in tumble dryer/out on the line for the afternoon, job done :)
