So this is my thread. I'm circling the drain, descending into CHAOS and this is my kickback. And I'm dragging you lucky people along for the ride 😁.

This is FlyLady. It's a system for sorting your shit out. It works, but only if you do it. It doesn't work so good if you only think about doing it. So get off your butts and clean some shite, people! 🧹🧴🧽🧼

We're fighting CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) 🧑‍🤝‍🧑🚫. You can't clean clutter so you've got to declutter 🗑️, which isn't as daunting as it sounds 🦧 because it's only 15 minutes a day. Your house didn't get skanked up overnight 🏚️ 🦠 so it's not getting de-skanked overnight either 🏠. We won't judge how skanky your house is because we are too are skank-sisters 🧟💩🦟, but trying our hardest to become blessed Queens 👸🤴 of our domestic realms, with varying success please don't sue me if you prefer to identify as a unicorn 🦄 or whatever, you're still welcome. With FlyLady as our inspiration 🧚. Be kind to yourselves and do whatever you can. Baby steps 🐾(FlyLady has those on her website), follow them.

I can't do links so there won't be any. Good start, hey? 🙄. I'm sure you'll live though. I plan to make up for it with emojis, because I like them 🌞

Today's the first of June. And if it isn't you're too early, so kindly get back to the other thread 😝. Old hands, newbies and lurkers 👀 all welcome. Come join the party 🎉

There's probably a whole bunch of stuff I was supposed to tell you but haven't. Apologies. 🍒👋 (Cherry waves, for anyone who can't see emojis) is a corruption of cheery waves, long before my time, and it's stuck - were not insanely flinging fruit at you, promise.

I think I need this thread in my life. I put things off, half-do things, get distracted (easily), spend too much time oh social media OH BUM . . . anyway I've just mopped the kitchen and bathroom floors, so there's that.

Tomorrow I must tackle the mountain of ironing. There's at least two hours' worth there. I've a friend coming to stay this weekend and I would like everything to look reasonably well kempt.

BloomingHazel · 07/06/2023 01:54

sunny well done on decluttering a full cupboard! 👏 the only suggestion I have for making going on holiday easier, is to have everything together and ready to go. That way you're less likely to leave something behind.

Thank you for the puppy love ❤️ camping was relaxing. We'll be going again next week so I'm looking forward to that!

Welcome cold it sounds like you've made a great start 👋

Ta Das:
🍒 LOLs x8, including DDs sheets & heated blanket
🍒 cleaned DDs mattress
🍒 vacuumed main floor & stairs
🍒 bleached both bathrooms
🍒 DS mopped the floors - kitchen, dining room & both bathrooms
🍒 cleaned the mirrors
🍒 cleaned the windows on the doors from the dogs looking out the window 🤦‍♀️
🍒 got dinner in slow cookers (one is vegetarian for DD)
🍒 relaxed on the couch for almost an hour, now working on my dinner (I'm having something different than the others, by choice)

We were going to get a fire going outside and roast marshmallows, but the stormy weather has a different idea 😡 at least we've had rain so no need to water the plants 🌈
It's almost 7pm here, no more ta das from me tonight!

🍒👋 to everyone

Today is anti procrastination day so crack on with whatever shiz you've been putting off since forever 😔👀

The mission is to clear out the fridge 🧐 of all the rotting festering whatevers 👾 that used to be food 🔬🦠 and give it a good scrub while you're at it ⚠️☢️

Hope you're asleep tonight Hills 💤

Maybe you'll get your fire and marshmallows tomorrow Hazel 🤤

Welcome to the thread Cold, sounds you'll fit right in 😁 many distracted people here

Welcome to you too Swirling hope you managed the cutlery drawer ⚔️, if not it's anti procrastination day today so you get a second chance!

Can just picture the bemused dogs 🐶🐺 waiting patiently Cherry

Have a lovely time on holiday 🧳🏖️ Salix and can I come

I don't have any holiday tips Sunny I travel light and take almost nothing, returning with even less, but if you're buying more luggage etc 🧳 that doesn't seem like it'll suit you. I'd take the old towels and bin them before coming home, less washing on your return

Ta-da's:

💥 Morning routine
💥 Took a walk
💥 Cleaned cutlery drawer
💥 Started a new novel - Second Chance by Jane Green
💥 Finished some artwork
💥 Decluttered
💥 Evening routine

Morning 🌄 everyone 😊

I either pack far too much and bring half of it back unworn, or not enough and end up buying more while I'm away.

I thought I was really bossing life yesterday, sorting and tidying while waiting on the phone.
Until last night when I clocked the date and realised my appointment with the hand surgeon was yesterday morning, not today 🫣.

On the ToDo list today is more bedroom whittling, a little LOL and pack for my trip.
DP came home from the pub and made himself one of his usual strange and very smelly concoctions for dinner. I had to shut my bedroom door because he was snoring so loud, and when I opened it this morning the stench made me heave 😆
So we'll probably have a little spat because I'll ask him to at least clean the microwave before he leaves for work.
Pleased to say that my nets made a huge difference, woke up at 6 instead of 4.

swirlingsnow · 07/06/2023 09:01

Hillsbesidethesea you have my sympathy about not sleeping, there are few things worse than lying awake in the middle of the night then facing that horrible tired feeling the next day when everything becomes a mental and physical effort.

DM is now out of hospital so I hope that I can get back into my routine. Sometimes it seems as if I just start to get on top of things when something happens that throws everything out of kilter and off track. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly my house gets dirty.

Today I will definitely be cleaning out my fridge and for anti-procrastination day I am going to tackle the draw full of old takeaway/sandwich box containers. I think most of them are without lids so they will all be going in the recycling. May do a LOL later.

SalixAlba · 07/06/2023 10:08

Tada
Cleaned out fridge. Flylady has a briljant timing, needed to do that anyway. Liquid lettuce is not something to look forward to after a holiday.

Have fun on your break too, CherryogDog. Too bad about the appointment. But you still used your time on the phone very well.

Hopefully you had a good night, HillsBesideTheSea

We're going to a cute Flemish city, Searchingforsunnydays. Which is close enough that the weather is pretty much the same. Which in this case, actually is nice and sunny, BloomingHazel, so whe are going to enjoy that. And of it gets too hot we have a choice of thick walled medieval buildings.
(Think my partner would be a bit bemused though I said yes, DitzyDaffodil 😄)

And yeah, something always seem to happen, Swirlingsnow. I try to think about it in a 'thank God' way. Something unexpected happens, but thank God I don't need to deal with laundry/groceries/etc right now. Hope your mum is doing well.

DitzyDaffodils · 07/06/2023 11:42

Can you get a decent extractor fan for the kitchen Cherry that would really help with the smells

Good plan for the decluttering Swirling. Glad your DM is out of hospital

Eeeeew Salix liquid lettuce 🤮

I don't know what to anti-procrastinate first there's so much

OP posts:
CherryogDog · 07/06/2023 13:14

That's a good idea @DitzyDaffodils

I phoned to rebook my appointment and they'd already rebooked it so I wasn't in too much trouble!
TaDa's so far, put all my riding tights and running tights in my drawer dividers. Packed loads in. Might get some more for my tops.
Emptied the indoor recycling boxes.
Pottered about putting bits and pieces away.
Had brunch, now watching Mrs Caldicot's Cabbage and contemplating another clothes drawer sort out.

Searchingforsunnydays · 07/06/2023 17:54

Welcome @ColdHandsHotHead how did you get in with the ironing ?

@BloomingHazel 8 LOL !! I think you and your washing machine need a rest ! I hope you manage your roasted marshmallow's today .

Great tada list @DitzyDaffodils . Let me know how you get on with your new book - I'm still reading Firefly lane , i seem to only be managing 4-5 pages a day at the moment , I have brought it to gymnastics with me tonight so I'll have a good half hour reading in peace 😊

@CherryogDog oh no ! Great that they have rebooked the appointment though - have you got to wait long? Happy that the nets have made a massive difference and you're getting more 😴

@swirlingsnow I agree there always seems to be something, housework will always wait as life takes over sometimes. Happy to hear your DM is out of hospital, how did you get on with your to do list today ?

@SalixAlba have a wonderful time away, I hope the weather forecast stays good for you . No Liquid lettuce is definitely a bonus 🤢

I've had a bit of a day at work so I'm not putting too much pressure on myself to do anything other than what needs to be done this evening once I'm home from gymnastics.

DitzyDaffodils · 08/06/2023 03:58

I didn't get anything done other than the basics and a bit of something I've been procrastinating on

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Today it's errands day. If you do all those little trips at once, you'll use less fuel (assuming you're driving) which helps your budget and the environment 🚗💷🌍😇

Today's mission is to clear out and organise the silver foil and plastic wraps drawer (or wherever you keep it) in the kitchen

Happy Thursday Fledgelings we're almost at the weekend

OP posts:
Scourgify · 08/06/2023 05:58

I abandoned the cutlery drawer months ago, and got two cutlery drainers to sit on the draining board until dry, then onto the worktop. Was sick of the noise of the drawer being slammed in and out while people scrabbled about for their favourite teaspoon or whatever. Of course, the cutlery drawer is now full of random crap that was overflowing from the shelves, but at least things don't fall out every time I open the cupboard door now. There is definitely an excess of spare jamjars in there to go in the recycling bin.

The hot weather did something to the fridges. Probably the blazing evening sun coming straight in the kitchen window. I was a bit upset at the amount of stuff that had to be bagged up for the food waste bin, and the same amount again is waiting in the fridge for the next collection. Problem solved when the tree grew even faster over the next couple of days, and now blocks the sun from that window.

My errands/procrastinations are mostly admin based. I need to get up and finish emptying out the cupboard that's going to be my office. It's like a tardis in there, and as it empties the kitchen fills up, but at least I can see just how very bad it had got, and do bits and pieces while kettle boils, etc.

GreenWillow enjoy your visit to London. I've booked a London weekend for DH's birthday. We both love London and haven't been since before covid.

DM lives with my sister. Yesterday DM told DSis she was too weak to hold a cup of tea. DSis very worried held the cup to her mouth while DM took tiny sips. DSis left the room to make some toast, came back 10 mins later to find DM stripping off bed and remaking it - including changing the duvet cover. I've told DSis I want to start buying whatever brand of tea she uses because it clearly has restorative, fortifying qualities.

My to do list today is mostly errands

  • post office to send off driving license (I have a medical license because of diabetes)
  • chemist/gp for repeat prescription
  • grocery shopping
  • buy new car mats

I'm having a Thai facial massage this afternoon. I don't know what this will entail but I hope it's relaxing.

CherryogDog · 08/06/2023 09:38

@swirlingsnow that made me laugh, and can you come back here and tell us what tea it is please 😄
I've woken up to another horrible rash on my back and feeling really unwell again. I've postponed my trip yet again 😒
I'm really hoping that I can get a face to face with the GP this time instead of sending a photo.
In other news, I liked my drawer dividers so much I've ordered another set.
My (2nd hand from ebay) Filofax is arriving today and I'm going to start making lists. I've been wanting to start a bullet journal for ages now, but don't like the set up of having an index and categories not being together.
So having a ring binder and subject tag thingies should help me stay organised.
I've been using Moleskine diaries for years, but referring back for information is a bit time consuming.
I fired up a really old phone and found some photos which I can't place where they were taken. I don't recognise the background so must have been on a day out somewhere.
And of course the diary that matches the date on the pics is no where to be found.
I've got diaries (such as lock down year) with just a handful of entries (I must lead a very boring life 😅) so having a system where everything is pulled together will be perfect for me.
(Forgive my wittering on lol)
Today's ToDo's (if I have the energy) is start the grand sort out of my charity shop bags.
I've got lots of empty boxes from my clearcut, lots of charity bags as we seem to get them nearly every day, if nothing else I should end up with everything tidied up and the obstacle course removed 😀

Hope everyone is well and free of spots!

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/06/2023 09:40

Insomnia is kicking my ass this week. Last night was a not great night after a good night. There is so much stress in this house and my coping strategy of sugar and coffee is i suspect causing me issues. But i did a 2hr walk before bed last night.
Far far too tired to do what i need to be doing so i am going to see if i can do practical things and then take a nap of more than 30mins ish. And attempt to get some work done this evening.

To do:
ironing
folding
sock pile of doom
laundry pile of will cushion your fall down the stairs
unload and load the DW
sort the pots, benches and other random mess that is the kitchen
deal with the about to become sentient was food stuffs in the fridge
go pull weeds in the garden
make cleevers water
find the packet of carrots that has been put somewhere safe and probably liquified
deal with the slow cooker
water the onions and garden
consider a walk down to the garden center (3hr round trip ish, maybe two) to pick up the correct fertiliser for the onion and garlic
drop of prescription request
finally sort the birthday card that is late
research new phones cos mine got dropped and it is now a problem
try not to be the grumpiest grump
try not to drink my body weight in coffee
actually eat proper food
maybe pick up some food stuffs
sort out get the milk delivery paused for a couple of weeks
return all phones to their bases so they are charged
file financial paperwork
sort paperwork for college for teen
speak to teen re work vs time left
deal with unsubscription of email from problematic company/request to be forgotten under gdpr
tape knee
do physio
try not to sit in corner looking at list overwhelmed
<insert all the other stuff that should be on the list but i am going to stop scaring everyone now>

CherryogDog · 08/06/2023 10:09

@HillsBesideTheSea that's a massive list. Take care of yourself 💐

CherryogDog · 08/06/2023 18:02

Well I did a massive thing today, bagged up all my old clothes, started sorting into sell and charity piles. Then thought F* it, and got DP to take the lot to the charity shop.
Amongst other things I had 38 pairs of jeans ffs!
I've got a big box of riding clothes that I was going to sell, but I've decided to take them to Bransby rescue centre, they've got a little 2nd hand tack shop there. And a nice cafe (win win). And you can stroke the horses and donkeys lol!
So that was a massive TaDa for me!
Other than my daily routines the only other thing I've done is bath my terriorist, I took my eye off him for 2 seconds and he sniffed out some fox poo and rolled in it.

CherryogDog · 08/06/2023 18:19

Sigh 🤣

DitzyDaffodils · 08/06/2023 18:50

I hope he didn't do that after the bath Cherry 😫

Stress at home is the pits Hills

Little by little Scourgify you will get there

Enjoy your London trip Willow

I think we all need that tea Swirling! Your Dsis must have the patience of a saint

Friday is sort out your bag and car day.

A good way to spruce up your bag like new is to empty everything out, take it outside and give it a good shake upside down, then hoover it's innards. You can even wash the lining although it's a bit fiddly, but at this time of year it'll dry quickly in the sun

If you keep your car clear of trash it'll be easier to give it a 5min vacuum. A quick spot clean of the bird poo and sticky DC finger marks/dog noses on the inside and your car looks like new(ish) too

That's extra though, FlyLady just wants you to take out the receipts and trash from both along with anything else that shouldn't be in there

Ta-da's:

🗻 Morning routine
🗻 Got rid of the empty packaging from new underwear
🗻 Totally gutted and reorganised the underwear drawer
🗻 Decluttered
🗻 Took two bags of clothes to the recycling bank, had to drive round a few looking for one that wasn't full up
🗻 Took in delivery, unpacked and put away
🗻 Went to feed the ducks
🗻 A bit of reading
🗻 Evening routine

OP posts:
DitzyDaffodils · 08/06/2023 23:41

Oops! Forgot the mission. It's to go under your sink (or wherever) and tidy the cleaning supplies, getting rid of anything you're not going to use that's just cluttering up the place

OP posts:
CherryogDog · 09/06/2023 08:33

Morning 🌄 👋, hope everyone is well.
I had a little declutter of my bathroom cupboard the other day, but there's probably more I can get rid off.
I haven't bleached my hair for ages and I've got several purple shampoos that need binning.
Today's ToDos
Clean spare room, I haven't seen the floor for some time!
Find a home for all the shopping bags that were full of clothes.
Clear out my downstairs coat cupboard.
Maybe have a further wardrobe declutter, it's a bit addictive 😆.
I'm very unlikely to ever clean my car 😳 but I do periodically take the rubbish out of it and wash the dog bed that's in it.

swirlingsnow · 09/06/2023 09:38

That's a very long list Hillsbesidethesea , I hope you've built some "me" time into your day.

I always need reminding about cleaning the car out. Mine needs a good vac inside, adding to my afternoon list.

Got lots done yesterday, including cleaning out the drawer with the plastic wrap and foil. I never realised I had so many sandwich bags but at least they're all neat and tidy now.

I highly recommend Thai facial massages for relaxation. Went in with high anxiety having received a phone call from DM 10 minutes before telling me that she couldn't find her bank card, and came out feeling calm and very Zen.

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/06/2023 11:30

So yesterday, i did about 5 or 6 things from the list. And then i decided to deal with the giant pile of stuff on the floor of my bedroom. Completely gutt the room, deep clean and rearrange the furniture. There is a mini pile of stuff on the floor but the room is significantly cleaner and looks significantly bigger despite the same about of stuff being in the room.

Got a good night's sleep last night but still down on sleep. So i need to get that sorted. currently trying to become brain functional and get a load of stuffs done. i want to leave the house to get all the things done because focus is hard. but also i have all the things to get done so that is a thing. And i have some time sensitive work to do on my computer which has to be done by tonight. Should have got it done sooner but this week has just not gone to plan.

<shrug>

Hope you all have good weekends
