Fledgelings winging their way out of June disasters

So this is my thread. I'm circling the drain, descending into CHAOS and this is my kickback. And I'm dragging you lucky people along for the ride 😁.

This is FlyLady. It's a system for sorting your shit out. It works, but only if you do it. It doesn't work so good if you only think about doing it. So get off your butts and clean some shite, people! 🧹🧴🧽🧼

We're fighting CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) 🧑‍🤝‍🧑🚫. You can't clean clutter so you've got to declutter 🗑️, which isn't as daunting as it sounds 🦧 because it's only 15 minutes a day. Your house didn't get skanked up overnight 🏚️ 🦠 so it's not getting de-skanked overnight either 🏠. We won't judge how skanky your house is because we are too are skank-sisters 🧟💩🦟, but trying our hardest to become blessed Queens 👸🤴 of our domestic realms, with varying success please don't sue me if you prefer to identify as a unicorn 🦄 or whatever, you're still welcome. With FlyLady as our inspiration 🧚. Be kind to yourselves and do whatever you can. Baby steps 🐾(FlyLady has those on her website), follow them.

I can't do links so there won't be any. Good start, hey? 🙄. I'm sure you'll live though. I plan to make up for it with emojis, because I like them 🌞

Today's the first of June. And if it isn't you're too early, so kindly get back to the other thread 😝. Old hands, newbies and lurkers 👀 all welcome. Come join the party 🎉

There's probably a whole bunch of stuff I was supposed to tell you but haven't. Apologies. 🍒👋 (Cherry waves, for anyone who can't see emojis) is a corruption of cheery waves, long before my time, and it's stuck - were not insanely flinging fruit at you, promise.

Hazel really sorry to hear about the fire. Hope you get it sorted and cleaned up soon. Glad you have neighbours who could help.

CherryogDog · 29/06/2023 00:00

@DitzyDaffodils she's improving, thanks for asking, fingers crossed that everything is OK when she's back on her normal food.
@BloomingHazel are the beams intact or will they need replacing? Did you lose much in personal stuff? I can't imagine how scarey it must have been.
@swirlingsnow that sounds good. I'm a bit disappointed with what I was offered at my induction, I want to do the remedial swimming, and thought there'd be an instructor, but you take a tablet, programme your personal details into it, leave it at the poolside and follow the animations. I couldn't see it clearly sat at a table with my glasses on, so no hope of following it in a pool. I've booked for a session tomorrow but I'm in two minds whether to go. And it partly hinges on if I can squeeze my lard into my costume that haven't worn for 4 years ☺️
Hi @Shannaratiger 👋 glad your son's op went well.
Not much doing on the TaDa front. Went shopping yesterday, today did some LOLs, washed pots, usual daily routines. For some reason I've been totally exhausted today, so not got much done.
I've been cooking chicken and rice for my poorly dog. I'm a pescatarian (but mostly veggie), and prepping the chicken has really given me the ick. DP said I never do that for him 😅

shannara good to see you back 👋 I'm glad to hear your son is doing better
ED no water damage, at least none that I'm aware of. The restoration company were at the house today, they did their checks for moisture and was documenting everything that will need to be repaired and replaced. They pulled out some insulation to reduce the smoke smell, put heavy duty plastic over the holes as a temporary fix until they submit the estimate and get an approval from our insurance company.

We will need 2 or 3 beams replaced, at least, and the way the house is built our ceiling will need to be replaced too. Our adjuster is flying out to us Friday to see the damage himself (actually we have 2 adjusters). We are feeling very well taken care of by our insurance company to say the least. They are making sure we don't settle as we are going through enough.

I really feel bad that the neighbour got 3rd degree burns! I'm probably going to go over there either tomorrow or the next day to see how he is doing (and try to get the insurance info). Part of me wants to take him something to feel better, but the other part says we wouldn't be in this mess if he didn't start the fire to begin with!

Anyway, I have some ta das:
🧼 wiped down the rest of the walls on the main floor of the house (did not clean the spare room that has the damage though)
🧼 wiped the doors
🧼 vacuumed the main floor and the stairs
🧼 spent far too much time on phone calls

I work tomorrow.
We are in our 3rd hotel on the 3rd night. This time we booked it through our insurance and they booked it for 14 nights! We shouldn't have to stay that long as we're just waiting for electric to be reconnected to the house. Hopefully tomorrow, although it should have been today so who knows 🤷‍♀️

Now I have to try to sleep!
🍒👋 to everyone

swirlingsnow · 29/06/2023 11:57

@CherryogDog I haven't been in touch with my GP for a referral to the exercise plan yet - I'm really hoping I get personal input to give me some encouragement. I had a message from my surgery yesterday asking me to make an appointment for an "annual review", I could raise it then, although I suspect the "review" will just involve a blood pressure check with the practice HCA who probably isn't able to refer me to the scheme.

I got my days mixed up and did my thorough vacuuming yesterday.

Other things on my To Do List

  • bag of stuff to charity shop
  • buy compost and repot my insectivorous plants - this may take a special journey to a garden centre, never a bad thing in my view.
DitzyDaffodils · 29/06/2023 19:32

Wow Hazel 😱 so it was your neighbors who started the fire? Accidentally I presume? How awful. I understand your mixed feelings about his burns. It's often cheaper to book a hotel for a week or two, ends up costing the same as 4-5 individual nights sometimes. It's not just the safety aspects, you deserve somewhere to stay that's clean and hygienic and warm/cool (if it's not already) with heating/aircon that works and insulation to keep it in. The cleanup isn't going to be sorted in a day. Stay in the hotel as long as you're able to/need. You don't want to be having headaches from the smell or turning up to work with your clothes stinking of smoke or getting chest issues from mould spores while the place dries out

Hope you can get help with your health issues soon Swirling. Don't worry about mixing up the days. The beauty of FlyLady's system is you can change things round to suit you

No ta-da's from me today, I've been procrastinating! Done nothing useful. Feel unusually tired for some reason, hayfever I expect

Today is car 🚙 and handbag 💼 day. Clean out all the trash, put things that shouldn't be there back where they belong etc

It's almost the weekend Fledgelings, just today to push through 📆 . It's also the end of the month. Does anyone want to start the July thread? Or maybe if everyone is busy people can just continue with this one? I'm going to be stepping away from FlyLady for a while to focus on decluttering. I feel I've gone as far as I can with the system without having a major declutter. I'll still be around and will pop back for the chat sometimes. I feel as though I've got the routines, daily focus 🕵️ and baby steps 👣 sorted now though. This thread has helped lift me out of a funk this month so thank you all for sharing that journey with me, it's been good to be productive and now it's time to shift my focus onto the next phase 💞

Oh no @HungryHazelEyes I hope you're all doing ok ? 💐

Thanks for this months thread @DitzyDaffodils ❤️

I hope everyone else is happy and well, apologies for not keeping up with the thread this month - July will be better 🤞sleep is still not great , I have been doing some decluttering and completed the basics all this week . Lots of prom preparations coming up so it'll be a busy few days !

BloomingHazel · 30/06/2023 19:19

Ditzy if you have time, please come back and chat, even if you're not keeping up with flylady like your are right now! It's good that you've got to the place you're at right now.

I did volunteer to run the July thread. I'm not so sure I can now, under the circumstances. If no one else can, I'll try!

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/06/2023 19:41

@BloomingHazel I can do it.

Might help me get out of a slump. I can set the thread up in a bit, busy in the kitchen and need to focus for a bit.

DitzyDaffodils · 30/06/2023 22:35

Don't worry Hazel I'll still be around, I just need to lurk for a bit so I can focus on decluttering. I've come to realise that FlyLady is right, you really can't clean clutter. It's not easy for me to get rid of it though. Everyone else's, sure! My own, not so much 🤭

Thanks for doing a new thread Hills 😘

Ah the excitement of prom! 🕺💖💃 Well done on your decluttering too Sunny

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 01/07/2023 05:31

Thank you hills I really appreciate it!
sunny we are plodding on, wishing there was a time machine or there somewhere that can make this all go away!
Ditzy yes, the fire was accidental, they were burning some stuff in their fire pit, thought they had the fire out, but didn't (or something flew out and caught the fence etc on fire).

We went over and talked to the neighbours today, actually saw the guy who started the fire (accidentally). He's in rough shape, refusing to go to the doctor because he has no insurance (was actually turned away by a doctor because he has no insurance) although the home insurance will cover it. We told him that tonight, hoping he'll listen to us and actually get taken care of before it's too late and he can't move his arm.
He did actually prevent the fire from spreading even more and gave the firefighters a chance.

The adjusters came out today. The one for the structure was really good, ended up saying he wanted more done than we thought!
The 2nd adjuster, for the personal property had me now concerned. She was talking about having to replace A LOT of our possessions, due to smoke damage. Some things can be cleaned, however, all electronics must be binned, as well as anything plastic and our couches! 😱 They will replace them, thankfully.
She was starting to wonder if we had enough coverage to replace it (I'm pretty sure we do), so I'm just a little worried 😟

Ditzy I'll be right there decluttering with you, but not by choice! I don't plan on replacing everything as we have too much stuff anyway.

CherryogDog · 01/07/2023 08:35

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
@DitzyDaffodils hope to see you back soon telling us how great your house looks when you've finished decluttering.
It's true that you can't clean around the clutter. I've made great progress since joining this thread, but I'm still frustrated by the state of my house.
Things are being moved from room to room and as soon as I get one room fly lady'd it seems to get stuff from another room put in it.
Had a win yesterday, I've got a huge fireplace in my dining room, and it was piled high with boxes and bags from one of my many declutters in lockdown. DP took the lot to the charity shop. Tomorrow is a trip to Bransby with a mountain of horse stuff, so fingers crossed Monday will be the day my dining room is usable again.
