Fledgelings winging their way out of June disasters

DitzyDaffodils · 30/05/2023 18:30

So this is my thread. I'm circling the drain, descending into CHAOS and this is my kickback. And I'm dragging you lucky people along for the ride 😁.

This is FlyLady. It's a system for sorting your shit out. It works, but only if you do it. It doesn't work so good if you only think about doing it. So get off your butts and clean some shite, people! 🧹🧴🧽🧼

We're fighting CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) 🧑‍🤝‍🧑🚫. You can't clean clutter so you've got to declutter 🗑️, which isn't as daunting as it sounds 🦧 because it's only 15 minutes a day. Your house didn't get skanked up overnight 🏚️ 🦠 so it's not getting de-skanked overnight either 🏠. We won't judge how skanky your house is because we are too are skank-sisters 🧟💩🦟, but trying our hardest to become blessed Queens 👸🤴 of our domestic realms, with varying success please don't sue me if you prefer to identify as a unicorn 🦄 or whatever, you're still welcome. With FlyLady as our inspiration 🧚. Be kind to yourselves and do whatever you can. Baby steps 🐾(FlyLady has those on her website), follow them.

I can't do links so there won't be any. Good start, hey? 🙄. I'm sure you'll live though. I plan to make up for it with emojis, because I like them 🌞

Today's the first of June. And if it isn't you're too early, so kindly get back to the other thread 😝. Old hands, newbies and lurkers 👀 all welcome. Come join the party 🎉

There's probably a whole bunch of stuff I was supposed to tell you but haven't. Apologies. 🍒👋 (Cherry waves, for anyone who can't see emojis) is a corruption of cheery waves, long before my time, and it's stuck - were not insanely flinging fruit at you, promise.

Dc5 is indeed 3! Well nearer to 4 now tbh! Dc6 is fast approaching 2 (although has been there mentally and emotionally for a few months now!) He quite clearly lives with teenagers! Anyone else have a one year old that rolls their eyes at you 🙈

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/06/2023 11:18

I have a couple of over 70yr olds that roll their eyes at me. And one of them who also did a full on toddler temper trantrum complete with angry jumping up and down yesterday. No idea what that was about. Did not stick about to find out. Let other people deal with that.

I am currently clothes less. So still lying in bed. Got cooked whilst stuck in serious traffic yesterday and it made me feel really really ill. Slept hard last night. Might see about an ice bath to try to reset my core temp and feel a bit better. i say ice but honestly more likely to be baby warm which always felt unbearable to me who rather likes to scauld my skin whilst bathing

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/06/2023 11:32

Just to qualify clothes less because really really really need to do laundry and what i want to wear is in the machine and little alternatives for getting dressed. not clothes less as in naked.

<sigh>

Its been a day already

Searchingforsunnydays · 04/06/2023 15:56

I missed a few people before - MN must've had a little tantrum because it didn't load all the messages !

Hang in ther @Upsadiddles , dd2 has just turned 7 so hopefully you will be heading into lie in territory soon! 99% of the time , I am now up before any of my dc which seems really strange after 16years of early wake ups !! Great that your home is in a tidy state - the cleaning doesn't have to be of a great standard, 18 months is a trying but precious age ! I remember it well !

Enjoy your allotment time @EvenmoreDisorganised ! I quite like audiobooks too, although it does take me a while to finish them . I'm currently listening to The Maid by Kathryn Stockett.

The prep will be worth it @GreenWillowAndFairyLights , although it isn't my favourite part of the week ! The tapestry sounds lovely , please send a picture when it's done so we can admire your handy work 😊

Regard being clothes less. @HillsBesideTheSea I did wonder what turn this thread maybe taking 🙊

I should've looked at dd2 school newsletter before sorting the clothes out as it is sports week so she has to go in sports clothes all week 🤦‍♀️

Tada
✅ washed , dressed , beds made
✅ bathroom sink cleaned
✅ dd2 washed , sun creamed and dressed
✅ read newsletter 🤦‍♀️
✅ sporty clothes found out and ironed
✅ outdoor tables and chairs cleaned and repositioned
✅ started to clear the seating area a little

Just having a break and about to make a drink and maybe a 10 minute sit outside ..... hopefully!

DitzyDaffodils · 05/06/2023 01:56

I love how you get to watch TV for professional development Willow

Welcome back That and Up, and thanks.

I didn't know it was even possible to get that many emails That 😅

Well done on maintaining the tidiness Up

I'm no good with vomit either Cherry. If I see/smell/hear it my body unfortunately feels the need to join in which obviously doesn't help matters at all. Well done for fronting out the "burglers" though!

Hope you had a lovely afternoon with your family Sunny

ED there's something special isn't there about sneaking out of the house while everyone else is still asleep, having had an uninterrupted start to the day all by yourself

😂 at the one year old eye roller That. Perhaps he'll have grown out of it by the time he's a teenger?! 🤞

Don't blame you for the swift exit Hills 😲 that must have been quite a sight!

Browsing the FlyLady archives this evening I came across an article on the demise of visiting. I don't know if any younger Fledgelings will remember this, but she's talking about how people used to visit friends and family on Sunday afternoon, without prior notice and how everyone was fine with it. FlyLady blames clutter for the demise of visiting. How we've all got so much stuff we can't keep our homes tidy or clean easily and so we live in CHAOS, such that even if someone does drop by we're embarrassed to invite them in. I'm not so sure myself. I thought it had more to do with the relaxation of the Sunday trading laws meaning shops being allowed to open on Sundays and more jobs becoming shift work instead of Mon-Fri 9-5, together with both parents now generally being needed to work full time to support a household because one wage is no longer enough, so weekends are busier than they used to be and there's more choice of what to do. All the same, I guess she makes an interesting point about clutter isolating us from valued relationships if it's presence makes our homes unsuitable for visiting

Wow, I've missed so much!
DD ended up just bruising her pelvic bones, but she did find out a couple things about her spine! She has Spina Bifida Cordova, which she was born with, as well as curvature of the spine. Very interesting!

Welcome back to AWOL fledglings 👋

Sorry I don't have more personals, we've been camping this weekend, so definitely had some some and relaxation. I did clean the floor in the camper yesterday (it had rained before we got there and made a mess when we were setting up camp) and S&S in the bathroom. So pretty much that was it for flying! Oh, other than sweeping, it was neverending.

We have already got everything in the house that we need, everyone has been showered, including the dogs and LOLs are sorted out. I did wash 2 LOLs when we got home. DS can work on the laundry this week.
Next Saturday we are moving DD to the city, definitely mixed feelings there!

I figured I'd share some pictures from our weekend. It sounds like a lot of you got to have fun and relax.
🍒👋 to everyone

Today it's home blessings hour. FlyLady says set your timer for 10mins each task and do what you can.
🌼Vacuum
🌼Mop
🌼Dust
🌼Remove old magazines and catalogues
🌼Empty bins
🌼Polish mirrors

The mission is to scrub your stove tops and remove all the burnt on shite that you've been ignoring all year week in the course of preparing your culinary delights because I definitely haven't been eating take away and ready meals all week, no sir, not me

OP posts:
DitzyDaffodils · 05/06/2023 04:30

💖🐕🐕💖 Glad DD is ok too

OP posts:
CherryogDog · 05/06/2023 09:13

@BloomingHazel scrumptious doggos!!
I did very little yesterday, recovering from the burglary 😅
Went with DP to collect a mower he bought, to go with his 70 trillion other mowers. He's a very tidy hoarder lol.
I'm revising my ToDo list this week, my hangers are coming today so will be sorting my wardrobe out. I'm seeing my hand surgeon on Wednesday and going on my delayed family visit on Thursday, so don't want to start my huge tack room clearout.
I've managed to get all my decluttering done spot by spot, instead of pulling everything out, and not got too overwhelmed by it all, but with my horse stuff I've got no room for manoeuvre so it will all need to come out at once.
Talking of stove tops, since I spent ages cleaning my cooker and its surrounds, I've got a new favourite ring, it's a range master set in a tiled alcove, so I've started using the middle ring to avoid splashing fat on the tiled walls 😅

SalixAlba · 05/06/2023 09:38

Resurfaces after many many posts. Waves at many many posters. Guess I don't do routine in weekends. Did do some cooking for the freezer, so quite happy about that.

@ Hillsbesidethesea:
Wait, there's other things then laurel that release cyanide? Didn't know that about the leylandi. Good thing everything is outside anyway.

@ DitzyDaffodils
There are several large garden projects waiting, but I'm not going to bother till this one is finished. My arms do feel like they should start to look like Michelle Obama's soon. But unfortunately they still don't.

Todo

Lol
Dishwasher

Btw, for more motivation for decluttering emails: every mail you delete will never use up any energy in a datacenter anymore. So you're being environmentally conscious too.

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/06/2023 11:10

I an anti-procrastinating. Also known as listening to terrible hold music whilst waiting to speak to HMRC...<sigh> they have terrible hold music.

And yes it was a sight. The only reaction i had was wtaf?!

I know have clothes, laundry was done yesterday. Need to hang up the load that is still in the washing machine when i finish being on hold.

Scourgify · 05/06/2023 13:04

Another one creeping back into the fold. Glorious weather here, lots of time spent enjoying the garden, hence house getting out of hand.

Lots of lols to deal with today. Everyone to be clean and shiny for school prizegiving tomorrow. After that, just jolly them along until the holidays.

Searchingforsunnydays · 05/06/2023 17:05

I'm back to work today , although I adore my job , I really don't like the running around !

Tada
✅ my morning self care routine
✅ beds made
✅ quick hoover downstairs
✅ breakfast pots
✅ LOL out on the line
✅ some dry washing folded (still have a massive pile !
✅ everyone ready and out the door
✅ work
✅ Tea made

Dd2 is at grandmas until 6pm, I've just eaten tea and now I'm going to have a power hour 💪 and see how many of the following I can get done :
-Washing in & some time on folding

  • Tomorrows clothes ready
  • Quick tidy of bathroom
  • 15 min decluttering kitchen
  • tea pots
  • a few jobs ticked off home thinngymagig 🤪

I have read the posts but will update with personals later on 🙂 I hope everyone has had a good day !

DitzyDaffodils · 05/06/2023 20:29

I love how you have a favourite stove ring Cherry

That's interesting about emails taking up energy Salix I'd never thought of that before

Hope you weren't on hold too long Hills

Welcome back Scourgify. I've had good weather too, it's been lovely after the cold spring

Good luck with the power hour Sunny

Do any of you want a phone? I seem to remember someone was bitching about theirs. It's a basic smartphone, runs on Vodafone network, works fine although it's only 3G but it doesn't hold a charge for long if you're using it. If anyone wants it drop me a PM and I'll happily post it to you for free, otherwise it'll go into the electrical recycling next week

CherryogDog · 06/06/2023 08:44

Morning everyone 👋 😊
@DitzyDaffodils I thought all adults had favourite cooker rings 😆
I'm struggling with finding the motivation to sort the last tiny declutter, I've got so far but I feel stuck.
Marie Kondo said something about hoarding stuff is either a fear of letting go of the past or a fear of what's coming in the future. That really resonated with me, and maybe it's my subconscious telling me to hold onto the last of my mess!
So still on my ToDo list is sort my linen cupboard (first move all my bags of clothes out of the way that I can't decide whether to sell or charity shop 🤔) and to have a reshuffle of my wardrobe.
I've had a recent clear out of my linen cupboard so it's really just a quick tidy up needed.
And my wardrobes and drawers, I have loads of space but because I categorise my clothes, some bits are crammed full and others almost empty.
So a bit of head scratching needed 😆
@SalixAlba I shall also be packing for my mini break, for a change I've resisted buying loads of stuff for my grandchildren so will just be taking my little case.
Also giving my doggos lots of cuddles, I'm sure they miss me but the horses only care that someone feeds them 😁

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/06/2023 09:27

Didn't manage to get everything sorted. So need to go back around through everything to try to get it sorted. A bit of a pita but if i can get it sorted it will be much easier.

Did not sleep at all last night so today is not the day that I tackle that.
Going to have to figure out what i have the energy and focus to do. But right now that is looking like laundry and sorting through my study notes to make it more usable over the next week. Send coffee, preferably in iv form and chased by something to send me to sleep tonight so i can function properly.

CherryogDog · 06/06/2023 14:39

@HillsBesideTheSea it's awful when you can't sleep. When I have a bad night sometimes I spend the day treading water until bedtime, I drink too much coffee and crave carbs all day.
Hope you have a better night tonight.
I'm pleased with my TaDas so far.
I was in a queue this morning in the phone to the MSK clinic, long enough for me to manage to sort my linen cupboard at last.
So tidy I even managed to fit the little box that houses my iron and scented water into it. It can sit there for the next five years just in case one day I decide to iron something 😁
Got the dogs in the car for their walk, but decided to slosh the patio so it would be dry when we got back.
Then decided to sweep their room, wash the floor and put their bed in the wash.
They were looking very bemused by the time I got in the car, but enjoyed their walk.
I then set my alarm for 30 minutes and started tackling my wardrobe (again). Used up all my new trouser hangers, filled one of my drawer dividers, and put a small pile of laundry away.
Came downstairs and found the WM had got stuck so had to drain it and clean the filter.
It's not intelligent enough to just resume the cycle so needed to restart it.
Finally having my breakfast and contemplating doing a bit more of my wardrobe.

BloomingHazel · 06/06/2023 14:55

hills ☕️ for you 🥛 warm milk for later when you need to sleep!
cherry that's interesting about the reason we hold onto clutter. As for your clothes, give yourself a deadline to put them up for sale, if you still haven't done that, take them to the charity shop! Enjoy your trip to see your family 🥰
Salix have fun on your mini holiday as well 🏖 are your going somewhere nice & sunny?
swirlingsnow 👋 I should probably do that too!
Ditzy that was nice of you to offer your old phone to whoever needs it ☎️

🍒👋 to everyone, including those lurking

BloomingHazel · 06/06/2023 15:05

YesTaDas:

😇 grocery shopping done
😇 cleaned out fridge 🤢
😇 put shopping away
😇 took rubbish outside to the wheelie bin
😇 finished loading DW (DS rotated it)
😇 watered outside plants
😇 wiped down kitchen countertops

Ta Das (8am):
☕️ 1st cup of coffee drank
☕️ DDs heated blanket in washer (she asked me to wash her bedding today, so I had her strip her bed for me)

To Dos:
😫 so.much.laundry!
😫 clear kitchen countertops (some things didn't fit in the DW last night & air fryer and rice cooker need to go downstairs in the basement)
😫 rotate DW
😫 bleach bathrooms
😫 vacuum main floor
😫 mop
😫 pull some weeds
😫 water plants

I'm sure there's more, but the theme today is definitely laundry and the weekly bleugh!
Hopefully I'll be back with more ta das

I'm currently sat at gymnastics until I get home around 9ish , I had lots of plans whilst here, I was going to pop and pick up new blinds and do a bit of shopping but I have just sat here sorting a few bits out and now I'm drinking a coffee and enjoying the peace 🙊 the shopping can wait a little longer , it isn't urgent . I will do a bit of planning and online shopping whilst here instead :

To do :
😴Meal plan
😴Order conditioner
😴Look at holiday bits I may need to order (younger kids could do with change towels and I would like one of those trolleys to take the body boards and other bits to the beach ) if anyone has holiday must haves , please do share 😊
😴Clothes out for tomorrow
😴evening self care routine

I'm hoping that the other bits of the evening routine will be done by the time i get home 🏡 otherwise the to do list will be slightly longer 😴😴
