So this is my thread. I'm circling the drain, descending into CHAOS and this is my kickback. And I'm dragging you lucky people along for the ride 😁.

This is FlyLady. It's a system for sorting your shit out. It works, but only if you do it. It doesn't work so good if you only think about doing it. So get off your butts and clean some shite, people! 🧹🧴🧽🧼

We're fighting CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) 🧑‍🤝‍🧑🚫. You can't clean clutter so you've got to declutter 🗑️, which isn't as daunting as it sounds 🦧 because it's only 15 minutes a day. Your house didn't get skanked up overnight 🏚️ 🦠 so it's not getting de-skanked overnight either 🏠. We won't judge how skanky your house is because we are too are skank-sisters 🧟💩🦟, but trying our hardest to become blessed Queens 👸🤴 of our domestic realms, with varying success please don't sue me if you prefer to identify as a unicorn 🦄 or whatever, you're still welcome. With FlyLady as our inspiration 🧚. Be kind to yourselves and do whatever you can. Baby steps 🐾(FlyLady has those on her website), follow them.

I can't do links so there won't be any. Good start, hey? 🙄. I'm sure you'll live though. I plan to make up for it with emojis, because I like them 🌞

Today's the first of June. And if it isn't you're too early, so kindly get back to the other thread 😝. Old hands, newbies and lurkers 👀 all welcome. Come join the party 🎉

There's probably a whole bunch of stuff I was supposed to tell you but haven't. Apologies. 🍒👋 (Cherry waves, for anyone who can't see emojis) is a corruption of cheery waves, long before my time, and it's stuck - were not insanely flinging fruit at you, promise.

@DitzyDaffodils I hope you feel better soon.
@HillsBesideTheSea I had a bootcamp friendly brunch. I was just thinking about a non bc friendly snack afterwards, went out to bring some laundry in, felt the heat and instantly lost my appetite 🙃
I've done 3 LOLs, washed pots, cleaned the kitchen down, put random stuff away. Just a steady potter about.

What are you reading @DitzyDaffodils ?
I used to read all the time, sometimes 2/3 books a week. Haven't read a book for ages, spend too much time faffing on my phone or watching TV.
So that's a habit I'd like to get back into.

Searchingforsunnydays · 26/06/2023 00:19

Thanks for all the better sleep wishes ! I slept really well last night and got a solid 7 hours then another 2 hours on and off . Tonight, however, I've been in bed over an hour and I've had to get up ! My period arrived nearly a week early yesterday so hormones are partly to blame. I can't stay in bed too long because if I don't fall asleep soonish because my mind starts to wander and I get really anxious about things . Not sleeping isn't helping the house or being a 'good' mum and worrying about the state of the house and being a 'good' mum is often what keeps me up 😂 it isn't a great cycle is it !! Oh well , I'll write down what's been running around my head , read my book (currently Disney twisted tale , mirror mirror) and try again in half an hour and see how I get on .

Reading your posts it sounds like you've all been making progress ! Glad you're feeling better @DitzyDaffodils, you've done brilliantly with this months links , thank you , it's really appreciated!

Spent yesterday afternoon walking round local open gardens. Very inspiring and has given me lots of ideas for next year. The heat however was exhausting and I don't feel fully recovered so goodness knows how much I'll have energy for today.

Alongside Home Blessing today's to do list includes

  • taking books back to library - they're a bit overdue
  • collecting prescription from the chemist
  • LOL
  • taking my mum out for a couple of hours, in itself an exhausting task since she is now so immobile.
HillsBesideTheSea · 26/06/2023 11:30

Last night was a terrible night for sleep here. Far too hot and sticky. And an interesting balance between weighted blanket to keep restless muscles/pain levels low vs too hot for said blanket. Not enough sleep was had.

Still suffering from the heat but was grateful for the few days of less hot over the weekend. Meant i managed the long drive stuff that was necessary. Unfortunately it means that the house is an absolute bomb site, and it need it super tidy so that prep for the next phase of building work can occur. So it is a slow plug away at it kinda thing today.

ta da
provide ds with breakfast
dentist
1 load in washer
half empty the dishwasher
pick the chicken - putting the meat back into the fridge for pot pie for tea, and the skin, bones and jelly into the stock pot
set the stock pot on to cook
finish a craft project
make a to do list - actually skinny stick it notes for a sudo-konbon board type thing
just taking a few minutes to sit with the fan on before i go do some more in the kitchen.

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/06/2023 11:31

Yes the lazy day was enjoyed, i just sat and crafted and the rest was very much needed. Unfortunately i could do with more days like that, and it is just not in my future atm.

Today was a day I never want to relive. We are currently staying in a hotel. I was at work when I got the call that our house was on fire!
DS was home alone, the neighbour's saw the fire (it was our shed, attached to the house) and was banging on the door to get him out. It could have been a while different story. The fire did get into the roof and insulation, but they were able to put it out. The whole house smells like smoke 😢 it was burning my eyes!
Hopefully tomorrow we'll be able to have our electric hooked back up and be back home. If that's the case I'll be washing walls, laundry and more! After my hair appt of course! 😳
Sorry for lack of personals, I'll try to catch up tomorrow

CherryogDog · 27/06/2023 06:30

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
Thank goodness it's cooled down here, the weekend drained me.
TaDa's
Cleaned my bedroom, I got new curtains and felt I couldn't put them up in an untidy room.
Put my laundry away, which took about a minute because I'd been wearing clothes out of the basket so there wasn't much left out.
Two more things went in the charity bag.
Took Cherry dog senior to the vet, she's had diarrhoea for a few days, she's very well in herself, so she's on chicken and rice and probiotics with the hope that will clear things up. If not then it will be blood tests.
ToDo
I've got a gym induction today, it's part of a scheme in the borough called Active Referral for people with arthritis and other physical problems.
Will go shopping while I'm out.
That'll probably use up all my spoons so other than animal routines nothing else will get done today.

EvenmoreDisorganised · 27/06/2023 06:31

Oh no @BloomingHazel I'm so sorry, what a nightmare Flowers

CherryogDog · 27/06/2023 07:41

@BloomingHazel how awful! 💐

swirlingsnow · 27/06/2023 08:24

Oh my goodness @BloomingHazel, what a dreadful thing to happen. I hope it all gets sorted out and everything returns to normal soon. Your poor DS, that must have been scary for him.

@CherryogDog I picked up a leaflet in the library yesterday about a scheme where GPs can refer patients to a personal trainer at local leisure centres for a very small cost (£3.50). It would be a 12 week exercise program tailored to the individual. I'm going to pop into my GP surgery later in the week to ask them if I can be referred. I am so unfit - I would even go as far as to say I am "deconditioned" - and suffer a couple of health conditions that are "challenging" to say the least.

On today's list:

  • Another lol
  • dusting - where the heck does all the dust come from?
  • repot a couple of house plants
  • this afternoon - if it's not raining - I'm surveying a small patch of wild flowers for pollinating insects.
HillsBesideTheSea · 27/06/2023 11:46

Flamming heck hazel i hope Ds is ok. Sorry about the fire.

DitzyDaffodils · 27/06/2023 13:03

Oh my goodness Hazel 😱 . Thank God for your neighbours 🙏. Hope the cleanup doesn't take forever and that you haven't lost too much stuff. (You did make me laugh though "sorry I can't chat my house 🏘️ is on fire🔥". Erm, yea, love...that's, like, a totally valid excuse 😳. No apology necessary! 😅). Hoping the hotel 🏨is comfortable. It all must be such a shock for you, especially DS 💐. Hoping too that it was just a random accident and not some major expensive fault that needs fixing or causes further upheaval and you can get settled back in there soon. Hotels are nice but there's nowhere quite like home. An unmumsnetty hug 🤗 for you

Wonders if FlyLady has anything to say about house fires. Probably not, unless it's under procrastination with a little ticking off telling us to not be so crazy and just clean our houses instead 😜

BloomingHazel · 27/06/2023 14:52

Thank you everyone!
It's early still here so I can't call to see if the electric company will do the checks or if it has to be an electrician. My guess is on electrician, based on where I work.
DH will be going to work today so it'll be up to me and DS to get this stuff done.

The dogs are at ILs. I'm hoping we can bring them home today. They were scared too. DS was scared, but our neighbours are amazing! They took them in, made sure they were safe. She gave me a hug when I got there and then we think they bought us dinner as we ended up at the same place and our bill was paid for! I cried when the waitress told us that.
There are good people in the world!

The local fire dept has a fund of money raised so he stopped by the restaurant, wrote us a cheque for whatever we need it for and went to the hotel to pay the bill. They booked us the room too. It was a relief to not have to worry about paying for it.

I'm hoping the fridge & freezer are staying cold enough, there's a lot of food in them!

BloomingHazel · 28/06/2023 06:47

Today was awful!
We got to the house and saw smoke coming out of the eaves, it wasn't completely out 😭
So after the fire dept came back and put it out the rest of the way (the beams were smoldering) I was able to start cleaning up.
I had DS sweep the big chunks of insulation up, even on the carpet. I then got the vacuum hooked up to the generator and vacuumed the main floor.
DS & I then started wiping countertops, cupboard fronts in the kitchen, walls in the dining room & side entry way. I then cleaned the floor in those rooms. We've still got a lot to do.

Tomorrow we're hoping to have electric turned on. Restoration company will come out and board up the holes in the house and hopefully we'll get the insurance information from the neighbour.
We're really hoping to get back in the house, we just have lots of cleaning to do!

EvenmoreDisorganised · 28/06/2023 06:52

Oh @BloomingHazel what a massive task. Is there much water damage? I gather that is often a big problem with fires as well as the smoke damage. Hope the insurance company act quickly for you. Your neighbours and your fire dept sound great.

DitzyDaffodils · 28/06/2023 11:35

How's your dog Cherry?

Oh no Hazel ☹️. At least it's finally out at last. Here's wishing it dries out quickly and you can get back in

Hi everyone

Quick update:
DS's Lymphoma was successfully removed with the first operation and he has completed his GCSE's! Such a relief, he has his prom tomorrow night
Quick question we brought him all new clothes for the prom, I've suddenly had a panicked thought should I have washed his brand new shirt before he wears it?

We also now have a beautiful new bathroom, well worth the 2 weeks of noise and disruption. Have also treated myself to a new Dyson, the replacements for the old one was never as good.

It's weird not having to get up and take DS to school. Have also handed my notice in and will hopefully be working in our local Tesco's. Now have to rewrite my routines to try and get the house back up together.

Off to sort out my routines and roughly link them upto FLYlady

Have a good afternoon everyone

DitzyDaffodils · 28/06/2023 14:13

Glad your DS's operation was successful and I hope your life gets back on track soon Shanara
