Changing bedding - how often is too often?

So, a friend of mine recently popped over for lunch and as she stayed a little longer than expected, I asked her if she wouldn't mind giving me a hand to change the beds.

Somehow we got on to the topic of how often bedding should be changed and I said I did mine twice a week. She was completely aghast and said she only changed hers once a fortnight and that twice a week was 'far too often'

I've always done mine twice a week, just like my mum did, so have never given it much thought.

So now I'm wondering what's a 'normal' number of bedding changes.

Any thoughts?

I do ours once a week, couldn’t be bothered with the laundry of more than that but if you can then good for you :)

I love fresh bedding aim for fortnightly but probably more like monthly. If you don't mind doing it more often though go for it

Whatever works for you. I do ours fortnightly, although used to do weekly. If I did it twice a week that would be six loads of washing a week

Fitted sheet and pillow cases weekly and duvet cover fortnightly.

I suppose it’s all down to personal preference! Mine gets changed once a week but the kids are done fortnightly or it’s just too much washing🤣 unless there’s an accident!

I had to change hem weekly at boarding school so change them weekly now.

Weekly for sheet and duvet cover; every 2 days for pillow cases ( sweaty husband 🤮)

Fortnightly - although I'm currently dragging it out a bit longer so I can swap over to the thicker duvet when I do it. Supposedly mild tonight but cold at night from tomorrow.

Weekly in the summer when I can get it dried. More like fortnightly now the weather is rubbish. Unless you're unusually sweaty or dirty I think more than once a week is too often. It's quite environmentally intensive.

Well, I guess it depends on your personal hygiene and what you do in bed!

If you sleep naked, don't shower frequently enough, have sex in bed twice a day, sleep with animals, eat in bed etc, then your sheets will need changing more than someone who showers before bed, wears clean nightwear and sleeps alone.

For us, as clean people who shower frequently, wear nightwear, have maybe weekly sex, and sleep with a dog, then weekly is probably ideal, but fortnightly is more realistic and absolutely fine and hygienic. Twice a week would definitely be overkill and a waste of resources.

I usually aim for weekly but have been doing fortnightly to save washing and drying with the winter of doom approaching. I changed our bottom sheet after a week. DDs is weekly even though its a bastard loft bed as she has the cat sleeping in with her, often under the covers.

I’m actually more aghast that you asked your friend to help you change the beds. Amazed she didn’t scarper instantly, or was that your intention?

We (or rather my cleaner) does it fortnightly. Before having kids I did it weekly but I'm doing a load every day as it is these days.

I used to work with someone who changed her bedding every day, I think about her a lot.
I aim for every other week and would love to change weekly but realistically it's more like every 3 weeks
