Changing bedding - how often is too often?

So, a friend of mine recently popped over for lunch and as she stayed a little longer than expected, I asked her if she wouldn't mind giving me a hand to change the beds.

Somehow we got on to the topic of how often bedding should be changed and I said I did mine twice a week. She was completely aghast and said she only changed hers once a fortnight and that twice a week was 'far too often'

I've always done mine twice a week, just like my mum did, so have never given it much thought.

So now I'm wondering what's a 'normal' number of bedding changes.

Any thoughts?

Fortnightly in summer. Three weeks in winter. Roughly. It depends a bit what the weather is like for getting it dried.

What's wrong with asking a friend to help out? I helped her paint her lounge last year 😕

We moved house last year so I better get round to it at some point.

Seriously... every 10 days or so for mine. The kids... about two weeks (if I can find the beds underneath the teddies and books)

Jadech · 06/10/2022 21:17

I'm generally twice a week too but if not then definitely weekly. Our DC still co-sleeps so he sometimes has little nappy leaks and I change the sheet more often

tilder · 06/10/2022 21:17

Fat fingers.
Threads on here asking how to reduce energy consumption. Then threads about this.

Honestly, I would think twice a week is excessive.

Lancasterlassie · 06/10/2022 21:17

Twice a week for DH and I as I love clean sheets but weekly for the teenagers.

all of us shower before bed and have clean pyjamas every night if that makes a difference.

am another one who is a bit shocked you asked your friend to help you make the bed!

CurlsandCurves · 06/10/2022 21:18

Fortnightly. Our bed one week and the kids beds the next.

jewishmum · 06/10/2022 21:19

Once a week minimum, pillow cases every few days.

It's the same as wearing clothes. How many hours would you go before washing your clothes?

TeapotReady · 06/10/2022 21:21

Fortnightly

Northernsoullover · 06/10/2022 21:21

I don't know. Approx every fortnight? I don't sweat a lot. I sleep alone and wear pyjamas.

tuttifruit · 06/10/2022 21:21

You would be horrified if I told you Blush

Samanabanana · 06/10/2022 21:22

I change ours maybe once every 2-3 weeks and already my washing machine is never off. Can't imagine how much washing I'd have to do if I changed them all twice a week!

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 06/10/2022 21:22

Well, that'll teach her to over stay! 😂😂

usually once a week this time of year, twice a week in summer.

but that's the minimum, more if they get dirty from adult activity or kids/food/drink

or like today, it was breezy and sunny. Far too lovely not to have white whites flapping on the line!!

Midnights · 06/10/2022 21:22

Weekly unless it's summer and we're extra sweaty! It can end up more often in winter too tbh, muddy cat paws everywhere 😂

PeloFondo · 06/10/2022 21:25

Weekly for the bottom sheet and pillow cases, sometimes 10 days for the duvet cover (I change it separately)

Schnooze · 06/10/2022 21:25

probably monthly 😳. Sometimes longer. We shower when we get up so fresh for the day. They don’t smell.

nothing wrong with asking for help with the beds - it’s a lot easier with 2 people !

I do 1x week, thinking about dropping to every 2 this winter to save cost/energy of drying (will change pillow cases if needed in between )

I use a ‘top sheet’ like the Americans, saves a lot of work so I only change the duvet cover every 6 weeks or so as I’m not sleeping under it - this also makes the drying much quicker & easier

Likewise!! Not caught owt yet though so winner!

Weekly is normal, fortnightly is a bit grim but acceptable if only one person in the bed and/or showers every evening. Less than that is gross unless bed only slept in occasionally. Id do twice weekly if I had the time and weren’t so environmentally conscious.

AriettyHomily · 06/10/2022 21:26

Why would you ask a friend to hep you change beds unless there is a huge drip feed and you've only got one arm?

EmmaC78 · 06/10/2022 21:28

Fortnightly. I also think it's odd you asked her to help.

I'm not interested in people judging me for asking a friend to help me change the beds - I only mentioned that for context.

Clean pyjamas EVERY night?? Why. What are you doing in them? You must do absolutely tonnes of laundry …

Blowthemandown · 06/10/2022 21:32

Weekly

Can you explain what's grim and gross about changing the bedding fortnightly or every 3 weeks? What exactly do you think will happen to those of us who leave the bedding on for 2 or 3 weeks before changing it? I am probably extra gross as I only change my pyjamas once a week. I do shower every morning, wear clean knickers daily, clean bra and shirt/blouse/t-shirt every 2 days (every day if I've got hot and sweaty).
