Changing bedding - how often is too often?

SorryButThatsAFact · 06/10/2022 21:06

So, a friend of mine recently popped over for lunch and as she stayed a little longer than expected, I asked her if she wouldn't mind giving me a hand to change the beds.

Somehow we got on to the topic of how often bedding should be changed and I said I did mine twice a week. She was completely aghast and said she only changed hers once a fortnight and that twice a week was 'far too often'

I've always done mine twice a week, just like my mum did, so have never given it much thought.

So now I'm wondering what's a 'normal' number of bedding changes.

Any thoughts?

Yes, I do realise that. I guess it was my mistake for expecting people to comment on the actual question and not to make judgements on something that's none of their business.

Well if it's 'none of their business' & you don't want people to comment, it's better not to post it on the Internet on a busy open forum.

unless you're incapacitated in some way, and you didn't say that, only that she'd stayed longer than you had planned for, it's a very odd thing to randomly ask a friend to help with.

you might be incapacitated, you might just be unwell, I can think of a few other reasons and I'd have a lot of sympathy, but being the way you're being is weird.

Was I the only one wondering why the husband couldn't have helped change the sheets when he got back?

Nope!

Laundering bedding - another made up task to keep women busy. 5 mins free? Well you should be changing the bedclothes you slattern! Give the task to a man and start living life. Did anyone ever die from dirty bedding?

Joan Rivers and I agree that bedclothes should be changed every 6 months whether they need it or not.

MrsTumblebee · 07/10/2022 10:29

Twice a week here.

My husband is usually the one who changes the sheets and is almost alway the one who makes the bed in the morning (a task that makes no sense to me), so this thread has been super entertaining. 😁

TastesLikeFlavourlessFizz · 07/10/2022 10:45

Such a weird thread.

How on earth is it bullying to take the opportunity to essentially tell someone that their friend doesn’t want to change their bedsheets?! I mean, most of us don’t actually enjoy changing our own!

And the question could have been asked without mentioning the friend changing the sheets if she didn’t want any comments about that part. Confused

Anyway, we’re muted so I’m not sure why I’m posting. But bloody hell. 🤯

And fortnightly in winter, weekly in summer for anyone who still cares.

Two weeks of sex, sweat, farting, sleep drooling and dead skin cells? Sounds fine. As I said you wash your clothes because your body touches it. Why doesn't this apply to bedding? Shudder.

You sound gross @jewishmum😂 I think, indeed you personally should carry on washing your bedding regularly. Those dreadful dead skin cells, a cancer on society.

Starryskiesinthesky · 07/10/2022 10:51

I would never ask someone to help me change the sheets.it's bad enough doing your own never mind someone elses.

How weird.

Notplayingball · 07/10/2022 10:56

Once a fortnight. By the time I do all towels and usual clothing, there's just no time for bedding to be done any more regularly.

Cactus720 · 07/10/2022 10:57

I think that someone who changes bedding twice a week is someone who is obsessed with housework and spends a lot of time doing it. Probably doesn't have time to chat with a friend without getting them to help out.

Cherchezlaspice · 07/10/2022 11:03

Out of interest (no judgement, as I don’t care, I’m just mildly curious), to the people who change their sheets fortnightly and so on - are you having sex regularly in that time period? Don’t the sheets get…unpleasant?

No well as someone has commented that they don't fart in their bed I would take any answers to this with a pinch of salt.

GottaGetOutofDairy · 07/10/2022 11:19

Peak mn.

Mine's changed weekly. I sleep nude and the dog sleeps on the bed. Sometimes I fart.

Take that mn! Grin

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 07/10/2022 11:27

Weekly, I shower before bed, change my pyjamas every 3 or 4 days, enjoy having a bed all to myself, DDog isn’t allowed upstairs and I air the bed every morning.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 07/10/2022 11:28

Oh, and no sex thank goodness 😊

Shinyhappyperson22 · 07/10/2022 11:48

We are facing power blackouts and people still are washing excessively. There’s being clean and there is being ridiculous.

Hell no, I’m not having sex with anyone not even myself. It’s just me, I wear clean nighties and long socks, I don’t sweat or drool and I bath before I go to bed.

Having always changed them weekly I thought I might mind, but really it makes no difference.

ODFOx · 07/10/2022 11:58

Twice weekly in the summer when we wear less clothes in bed and are hotter. Weekly in the winter.
Or if I'm not sleeping well: we seem to sleep better on clean bedding.

Nope, hardly have sex so this isn't an issue. Bed used mainly to sleep in.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/10/2022 12:44

SorryButThatsAFact · 06/10/2022 23:21

No.

But they'd only been changed 3-4 days ago.

BitOutOfPractice · 07/10/2022 12:45

You sound like my ex MiL. We'd ask her to come out for the day with us when the kids were little and she'd refuse because she needed to wash the windows. Like they'd drop out of their frames if she left them another day, and they'd only been washed the week before.

itbemay · 07/10/2022 12:47

Boomboom22 · 06/10/2022 21:09

If you are confident to ask a friend to help, the sheets definitely don't need changing 🤣

🤣
