Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term

EspeciallyDivided · 31/08/2022 20:55

Welcome to the September Flylady Thread where we follow the Flylady routines for running our homes and lives. Links to the relevant parts of the Flylady site are posted each morning (most of the time - see naughty corner below). The Fledgling threads are long running, some have been posting for years some are new, all are welcome. Just jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything. The chat is an important part of the thread too, housework is not the be all and end all, we like to pass the time amongst friends while we get our houses in order.

This is not a strict thread but a gentle way of following the guidelines on the Flylady website without having to sign up the emails, which can become a bit overwhelming. Do as much or as litle as you can, there is no judgement here.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

Babysteps and household focus zones start again on the 1st of every month hence a new thread at the start of each month to keep things orderly. That is one of the great things about Flylady, you can jump in whenever because everything comes back round again soon. You are never behind.

Lastly we have a naughty corner - if you are struggling in any way this is a spot to join in the chat snuggled into comfy cushions with some nice drinks and nibbles until you feel ready to Fly again. So even if you have not lifted a finger around the house you can stay and chat. The thread leader may be found there from time to time putting the kettle on and plumping up the cushions.

Welcome to September.

This link www.flylady.net/c/lp.php is the Flylady launchpad. All the different parts of the system can be found here.

This is the Flighplan - the do do list which updates daily www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Babysteps are here www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

Not much done today, but I'm ok with that.

Loving the Queen stories. I never saw her, but did meet Prince Philip when I was presented with the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award at St James' Palace. He was fun!

EspeciallyDivided · 22/09/2022 09:14

Morning all, forgot to post when I got up, I'm at work now so just a quick one.

flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Today's Flight Plan. Mission for today is to get your bed straightened up, pillows plumped, clean sheets if needed. A nice one. I did manage to do my cobwebby ceiling corners last night.

Amazing Zireael. My friend’s son did that so I know how much work goes into getting it. Well done.

Market, pick up and making tea went well.
Running a bit late.
Friend was already in the car when I got there so we took hers but broke down on the way back. After ringing the insurance and getting a ditsy girl who couldn’t fathom how we couldn’t see anything ( it is very dark here), didn’t understand what a village green was, didn’t understand that a tiny village might only have one street light and that a house name wasn’t enough information ( we thought doing well to find a house with a name displayed) and what was the street name...it doesn’t have one, same as my street - no name. After all that she agreed to send someone. Later we got it started again( it had been in the garage yesterday) rang them back and they didn’t cancel the poor RAC man who rang us after we arrived back.
i had accidentally pocketed other friend’s key so had to go back and we sat drinking tea and eating trifle and yum yums. I had never had one of those before.

Primark are selling off fleecy blankets for £2:40 a kind lady bought five for us to send to Ukraine. A young man has started knitting squares for us.
I had an amazing green chicken curry from the Thai Cafe in the market. Mmmmmm!

No flying at my house as back after midnight.
I did load friends dishwasher and tidy a little bit.

Woke up in the middle of the night with a block nostril and a horrible headache feels like sinus head. I wanted to go out today but feeling rough and it is raining ☔️ I can hear it!

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/09/2022 09:51

Could you keep the rain or send it north or east Red i need to put washing on the line today.

ta da
heated debate over the usefulness of saucepan lids. fucking things won't fit in the damn cupboard, we don't use them, but apparently we Neeeeed them Hmm
Sorted plans for the stubborn one
discuss tech issues
figure out and take tea out of the freezer
put a load of washing on - included is the stuff that needed de-fibre glassing from the building work and came out of the drawer where it was supposed to be clean
make a batch of boiled eggs after giving up on playing hunt the egg saucepan
breathe a sigh of relief that it is black bin day as it is full and there is stuff to go in it
mutter about the uncivilised and their need to leave tea bags to reuse for a 2nd cup lying about
mutter about people not know how to keep a draining board clean.

On my 2nd coffee. About to defluff, make appointments, hang laundry out and get on with the job of study for the day.

DitzyBluebells · 22/09/2022 16:42

I suggest disposing of the bodysaucepan lids while nobody's looking Hills, then spending a little time in front of the mirror perfecting your wide-eyed-innocence look when you claim not to know where they are.

Ugh at the customer service nightmare Red sometimes people are just impossible.

I'm surrounded by idiots with ridiculous agendas. I'm feeling murderous ☠️

In better news:

🙂 I've managed to find trousers and a jacket to go with a why-on-earth-did-I-buy-that? blouse and look surprisingly ok.
😁 New furniture has been ordered. It's time.
😡 CF-ery dealt with.
🙂 A little gardening.
🙂 Decluttering.

We're off to the park to feed the ducks now 🦆

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 24/09/2022 07:57

Morning! Haven’t been on here lately, had a mad busy couple of days at the end of the week and then succumbed to the Start Of Term Germs 😡 I am now very snotty indeed and my throat is itchy so I’m feeling rather sorry for myself. I’ll catch up with the thread in a bit and post my ta das (not many)

EspeciallyDivided · 24/09/2022 08:18

Morning all,

Sorry about yesterday, it was my day off and I spent it rushing about doing stuff (went out and bought a new phone for my mum and then spent time helping her set it up, plus the main food shop and put away). Didn’t do anything in the boudoir.

@Stilllivinginazoo hop all goes well today at the cafe, it is a shame such things re needed but very good that they are available, I think the need is going to grow this winter.

@CurseYouPerryThePlatypus sorry you have the lurgy, hope things improve soon.

@HillsBesideTheSea we have our pan lids in a box, prior to that I had two years of cursing their every move in the cupboard.

@DitzyBluebells hope the murderous feelings have subsided but you are welcome to borrow the Fledglings Shovel which is reserved for dealing with such people (you may have to queue up behind @HillsBesideTheSea

@Redsquirrel5 hope your cold symptoms have abated.

Today is Family Fun Day chez Flylady. I am off out for early coffee with friends shortly then we are heading off to DS’s uni town to meet him for lunch as he has been gone a couple of weeks now.

Yes feeling better now ED thanks. Enjoy your visit to DS

Busy day That you deserve a tea break for sure

Hopefully the germs won't last long Perry

We're going out today, not sure where yet.

WeegieGranny · 24/09/2022 19:13

Hello to everyone.
Not much has got done this week. Triggered by the funeral on Monday, the LOs have been missing their own Great-Granny, each in their own way. LB cried over his photo of her at bedtime. Then cried during the day about how our horse will die someday and who's going to shoot him. Not a thing we've ever mentioned to him, so don't know where it's come from.

Kitchen is much improved, and staying that way for the most part. After each school drop-off, I tackle a bit more of the weedy patch beside the garage. It looks a lot better, even though only half done so far.

Lovely day today, twelve hours of blue skies and sunshine. Spent much of it listening to an audiobook and tidying, hoovering, and paperwork.

Zireael · 25/09/2022 18:01

Hope everyone has been enjoying the weekend and all the lurgies don't stay around for long. DS is coughing and spluttering - the joys of a new school year.

The Ditch & Bitch party yesterday was fab - lots of cake and alcohol was consumed.

TaDa Today
Thorough clean of kitchen sink, counter tops and hob
Recycling sorted and put into proper receptacles
LOL x2
Folding and putting away laundry
Changed bedsheets

Best bit about today - DS and I have made our very first Christmas Cake - we had great fun! He loved using my kitchen chopping gadget to dice up all the dried fruits, and then stirring everything up. The only cake I've ever made is a basic Victoria sponge, so this one was quite an achievement.

Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term
EspeciallyDivided · 25/09/2022 19:37

That cake looks very tasty indeed @Zireael - a great way to Renew Your Spirit.

@WeegieGranny sorry to hear the funeral had such a triggering effect for the LOs, sounds as though you are doing well with the Flying.

Waves at @BloomingHazel @CurseYouPerryThePlatypus @DitzyBluebells @GreenWillowAndCatkins @HillsBesideTheSea @Upsadiddles @pompomseverywhere @Redsquirrel5 @Stilllivinginazoo @Dancingtomusic @Shannaratiger and anyone else I may have forgotten.

I had a blitz on DS’s room today. I have promised not to chuck anything away while he’s at uni and he has been keeping it superficially clean and tidy but oh boy was there a lot of clutter and dust under the bed. Happily for him his old money box is now heavier than it was this morning and unhappily for me I have 57 extra socks to wash and pair up Blush clearly we had left the deep cleaning for rather too long.

Also had a bit of a blitz of the boudoir, several loads of clean laundry sorted and put away, a bit of dusting, general hot spot clearance.

We have just had homemade pizza for tea, which was nice and now off to the pub quiz evening.

I thought I would post a link for tomorrow now while I remember, as I sometimes forget on work days. It will update overnight.

www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

We will be moving into Zone 5, The Living Room, where our mission will be to declutter flat surfaces. That might take longer than 15 mins here. Monday’s Daily Focus is Home Blessing hour where we attempt to change all the beds, dust all the rooms, empty all the wastepaper bins and hoover the entire house in an hour. Or not. This is one of the areas I cannot get on board with about Flylady.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 25/09/2022 23:57

Just summing up my achievements over the last few days… I’d love to say they were the highlights but TBH I didn’t do much else of anything. House is a state, I have zero energy, etc.

Wednesday
🧡some work/attended meeting online while in friend’s car. New role officially announced so that was nice!
🧡lovely trip round a nature reserve, did a couple of workshops with Cagletini

Thursday
💛dashed to shop to get refreshments for work event
💛work event
💛catch up with old friends

Friday
💚tiny bit of work as cold had set in by then

Saturday
💙bit of reading
💙deleted some emails

Sunday
💜wrote home ed reports to send to LEA
💜trimmed Cagbunny’s fur around her bum. That was… an experience.

Cold has pretty much gone now but I seem to now get hearing issues instead so yay fun. Doesn’t hurt but it won’t make work easy this week!

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/09/2022 09:13

Morning.

Too much misadventure this weekend has me licking my wounds and sulking. Very nearly ended up being admitted to hospital, but it was worked so that was not necessary and I can recover in the comfort and peace and quiet of my own bed. Unfortunately this is a week where i was in the hospital for numerous appointments anyway. So I still get to see the place. And the first appointment is this afternoon.

To do
bath and defluff
get up
take ds to college
medical appointment
Study
Do not get distracted from study by the new shiny knitting project

pompomsontheceiling · 26/09/2022 10:39

@EspeciallyDivided 57 extra socks!!!! 😆

@HillsBesideTheSea what are you knitting?
I'm feeling the call of yarn at the moment too.

I've fallen off the thread for a week but I've still been doing my jobs in the house but I've been a bit low to be bothered with Mumsnet. Anyway nothing serious and I'm back now so will get back to sending in my tick list to you all!

Redsquirrel5 · 26/09/2022 10:53

At last I am back on🤬mumsnet log in

Zireael your first cake looks amazing. Well done.

Hills we never learn! Hope you feel better soon.

ED 57 socks🤣 at least you can dry them on the Everhot😂

weegie hope they are ok now but perhaps triggering will help their own emotions now out after a good cry. That may have been buried so better out and you know.

Perry your work is keeping you busy. I’m glad you are enjoying so much. You must be a real asset to them.😄

Zoo hope you are feeling better. Your hands sound so sore. Glad about the cafe, great experience for the Zoolets. Lovely for you too, maybe just sit and chat and rest!

I had a busy week but not much flying. Going to get cracking soon. I was planning to start earlier but have a stomach ache so not feeling great and still in bed because nowadays I can.

I have been sorting through stuff art & craft mainly. I have a stash of old Christmas cards which I used to have for school but I am recycling for charity. I have discovered there is a craft class near me twice a month with U3A so I am going to join. Meanwhile I take my stash to the market and spend my day crafting while looking after the stall.I bought some bits from the Range yesterday( I know, I know) for 50p and two stamps for 18p each😂 Check it out. I bought 6 packs of Christmas Wishes in gold and silver to put on the cards as I had nearly run out. Will make some stamped ones when I have finished the recycled ones. I making a stamped birthday card for DSis at the moment. Left it to dry on Saturday.

Went to church and met a new family. Then long session at choir. I was glad the other church choir wasn’t rehearsing as my voice was finished by the end. We have a Concert coming up soon.

Home bleugh awaits. I don’t think I finished last weeks. I took a day to myself and went for a long drive to places I had never been before. Planning to go back to one or two with my camera. Very quaint cottages and a Conservation village I never knew was there.

Pof3
Washing - first load
Clean bathroom
Strip bed

Lunch

Pof 3
Washing - load 2
Sort BRC x2 in craft room
Pick up random clothes in bedroom and put away. I can’t get to wardrobe due to BRC!

Good luck today 🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋

Morning all.was running around like blue arsed fly since last post.
Before I forget zireal your cake looks FAB.

Saturday cafe went well.40families needed food bank this week, and it rises weekly☹️one lady works and a single mum and her boys (7+9?)cried when I asked what can I get you(toast and a drinks free and they wanted full English which was £2.50) and she reminded them it had to be toast when one had already asked for a full breakfast.my heart broke for them...knowing shift was half way thru and we had loads cooked sausages I offered them a sausage sandwich which they devoured in seconds.as winter goes on I am going to need to find tougher mental resolves I think.i hate to see anyone hungry, but especially children☹️

Quingo was great fun.dd and sil had fab time too.we won a grab bag of roses chocolates in one round which DD took home❤️there was clearly a we win everything table but the bingo element gave everyone a chance.dd1 won some ferrerro rocher in the raffle too😁

Sunday was shopping, walking a distressed dd2 and laundry mountains.

This morning has been camhs, distressed calls from DD at school,D's kicking off school are supplying work whilst we still await transport and lil zoo get upset missed out on a concert as tickets ran out<fun times>
Laundry mountain ongoing.
Mucked out a chunk girls room if doom and found mountains more laundry<FFS>
Ds boy dungeon has a floor, questionable on the surfaces front but at least can get in and out without dying trying!

To do.
As much home bleurgh as I have the energy and capacity with hands as poss as tom I have Stuf To Do and Wednesday plumbers coming to fix leaky tap and I need dump some stuff at church for harvest festival(for the food bank)as it's a Big Birthday for me this weekend and I'm trying to organise plans.normally my birthday passes unnoticed.well not this year!I have decided I matter and if I don't care and make a fuss neither will anyone else!

pompomsontheceiling · 26/09/2022 18:53

@Stilllivinginazoo that's heart breaking about the children. Do they all know about the Olio App?

✅ morning routine

✅ afternoon routine

✅ half a house blessing

✅ made soup

✅ posted Vinted parcels

✅ baby group

EspeciallyDivided · 27/09/2022 07:56

Morning all,

Pompoms - I’m feeling the call of the yarn now too, I tend to stop crocheting by and large over the summer when gardening takes over as my main hobby but I have picked up a nearly finished blanket again in the last couple of weeks.

Hills - hope you aren’t too badly broken.

Red - I like exploring by myself with a camera too, I can see me doing a bit around the Cotswolds now DS is there at uni.

Perry - beautiful colour coded list

Zoo - that is heartbreaking about the hungry families, you and yours are doing a great job there.

Off to work shortly, just got to go and do hair and stuff.

Today we are still in the Living Room www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60&d=1

The mission is to clear some hot spots, not too different to clearing flat surfaces yesterday. Tuesday is also Anti-Procrastination Day, is there something you have been putting off?

Going to the next town with the others this morning while DS has science lessons - I never used to be able to go as staff meetings were on Tuesdays but they’re on Mondays now. I still have to come back earlier for a steering group but still, may as well have a bit of nice time with DH and Cagletini ❤️ the new tuition centre is a little way out so I’ll probably stay on the bus while DH drops him off, I can take Cagletini to the library instead if she wants to come with me. Feel like having a browse in charity shops too 😁
