Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term

Welcome to the September Flylady Thread where we follow the Flylady routines for running our homes and lives. Links to the relevant parts of the Flylady site are posted each morning (most of the time - see naughty corner below). The Fledgling threads are long running, some have been posting for years some are new, all are welcome. Just jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything. The chat is an important part of the thread too, housework is not the be all and end all, we like to pass the time amongst friends while we get our houses in order.

This is not a strict thread but a gentle way of following the guidelines on the Flylady website without having to sign up the emails, which can become a bit overwhelming. Do as much or as litle as you can, there is no judgement here.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

Babysteps and household focus zones start again on the 1st of every month hence a new thread at the start of each month to keep things orderly. That is one of the great things about Flylady, you can jump in whenever because everything comes back round again soon. You are never behind.

Lastly we have a naughty corner - if you are struggling in any way this is a spot to join in the chat snuggled into comfy cushions with some nice drinks and nibbles until you feel ready to Fly again. So even if you have not lifted a finger around the house you can stay and chat. The thread leader may be found there from time to time putting the kettle on and plumping up the cushions.

Welcome to September.

This link www.flylady.net/c/lp.php is the Flylady launchpad. All the different parts of the system can be found here.

This is the Flighplan - the do do list which updates daily www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Babysteps are here www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

That's an awful lot for anyone to deal with Zireael 💐 no need to apologise. Fingers crossed your DH treatment works 🤞

A hug of tea sounds kinda brutal Zoo 😆

Is it deliberate, do you find it makes them work better if you have a meds break Perry or is it just that you run out? Ignore me if that's too personal a question. That's one cute alpaca 🐑

That most annoying about the broadband, hope they fix it soon Willow 🔧

I appreciate the Queen ED but I don't watch TV so no funeral for me 👸

I don't want to move today but I have so much to do 🛌

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/09/2022 14:27

I am live streaming it on Youtube. Just playing it in the background whilst i catch up on economic reports and burning my lunch <sigh> least it was edible.

Also a lot to do but popped a joint, again. So tricky balance between rest and doing, and work.

THATissooFETCH · 19/09/2022 15:16

Thanks for the welcome backs

I think, i may be back

BabyTHAT is toddling about
ToddlerTHAT is now 3 and a massssssssive pita 🙈

Rest of rabble are good

The manchild and i resolved our differences. We will see how that goes

My degree certificate arrived. Woop

Work is meh

We had a family holiday. It was HARD work.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 19/09/2022 15:23

Excellent news that on the most part… ah, three year olds <offers strong coffee>

<to that not the three year old>

Ditzy not too personal at all :) it’s a type of stimulant I’m on for ADHD, a lot of people swear by taking breaks now and again if it starts to feel less effective, rather than upping the dose. I am aiming for two weeks which is about what I managed the first time but we shall see 😬

I have been tidying but ache a lot still so it has been very very slow

Zireael · 19/09/2022 17:53

Thank you everyone. Life is shit sometimes; it will get better, just got to ride it out for now. One of my work colleagues DH walked out on her (at last) and she is throwing a 'ditch and bitch' party next weekend, that will be fun and a chance to let off steam!

@THATissooFETCH I found a video of my DS when he was almost three the other day and wow, I do not miss those times! He was adorable obviously, but seriously hard work! What was your degree subject btw?

Love the alpaca @CurseYouPerryThePlatypus. We once rented a holiday cottage on a farm that had two herds of Llamas, for such big animals they are rather flighty and scared of silence - we were told to talk loudly around them!

Fingers crossed @GreenWillowAndCatkins your broadband is fixed soon, must be very hard to cope without it.

Sorry can't do other personals as thats a page back now.

Managed a few Ta Das
Filled out DS school reading record
Completed school medication forms
Got DH to supervise DS homework
Several loads of laundry, tumble drying etc. Folding in progress.
15 minutes declutter in the boudoir. I have excavated to depths previously unknown and discovered carpet.
Watched HM The Queen's send off
Long heart to heart with DH

Redsquirrel5 · 19/09/2022 20:13

Lovely to hear from you MamaThat I have often wondered how you are. A big Congratulations 👩🏻‍🎓🎖on your degree you are amazing to carry on and complete with six young children.

Zireael so sorry that you have so much on your plate at the moment. Can you get a massage or some similar hour or two to release some of that tension?
vent here as much as you like, lots of us have had a twine from time to time and we are a sympathetic bunch so you will get support in this corner.

ED lovely that you could go on the spur of the moment. I lived in Windsor and stood waving at the Queen on the Long Walk on many occasions to welcome Her Majesty back from the Commenwealth Tours.

EspeciallyDivided · 19/09/2022 21:19

@Redsquirrel5 I had to park in the Great Park about 1.5 miles away from the castle and walk up the Long Walk. I was relieved of £20 for the privilege. It was nice to walk up the Long Walk, I went to the Cambridge Gate and then back through town to the other one, it was very busy but a nice atmosphere. Had a nice wander round the town too, to get value from my parking. I watched the whole day on TV today.

@THATissooFETCH so pleased to hear you finally got your degree. I can’t believe BabyThat and ToddlerThat are growing up so fast.

@Zireael well done on the bedroom excavation, I need to do that. I started a mass excavation under our bed the other day then just chucked it all in DS’s room as he has gone to uni, ooops.

I am getting adverts on MN for funerals and dog beds with pictures of Corgis sitting in them. How insensitive.

Not many tadas yesterday and today, but I did have a good tidy up of the fridge today and cleared most of the bathroom missions over the last couple of days, plus a couple loads of laundry.

Looks like I’m in the naughty corner again Blush We’ve just arrived back from a lovely family weekend away. We left on Friday, 5 minutes after I finished hoovering up plaster dust and putting the furniture back in the right place after various bits and pieces we had a handy man doing. Pleased I did it as it meant we came home to a tidy downstairs. Upstairs however 😳. Let’s just say it’s good job we are in the boudoir this week.

TaDas tonight:
✅ first two of many LOLs
✅ cleaned up a travel sick incident 🤢
✅ made a brief start on sorting upstairs but lost the will very quickly
✅ got DD’s bathed and fed, DD1’s homework done and both in bed
✅ ordered a pizza

So sorry to hear you’re having such a rubbish time Zireael

Massive congrats on the promotion Perry

Yay, welcome back That

Glad DS is settling in well at uni ED

Big enthusiastic waves to everyone else 👋 👋

DitzyBluebells · 19/09/2022 23:19

Congratulations on your degree That

Thanks for answering my question Perry that makes a lot of sense

I didn't think to look in YouTube Hills. Someone will probably make a tribute magazine specially to mark her life. I'll have to content myself with the pics in there

Glad to hear you enjoyed your holiday Up, back to reality now

ED that is really insensitive regards the ads

I don't have many regrets in life Red, but one of mine has always been that I was working when the Queen came to a nearby village one year, so I couldn't go see her go past. Wish I'd taken the day off sick

Well done on finally finding the carpet Zireael

The bedroom is a bit of a bugbear, there's too much in it. Perhaps I should think about that this week

Redsquirrel5 · 19/09/2022 23:24

Oops, that should have said Commonwealth! DH had put tea out and called and gets ratty if I don’t turn up with 1 minute. Of course he can take 10 minutes( an hour and a half if in the pub) and expect me to be ok with it. I rushed typing and posting.

We had a gate that led straight into The Great Park from the garden. We lived in a flat in a large house and garden. It had a Lodge Cottage, where the housekeeper, Mrs ‘Witch’ lived. I couldn’t pronounce her name. She was lovely and gave me a leopard that still sits on my bed. I wish I could have let her know I had kept him safe all these years. It was hers you see and she gave it to me when I was leaving. I had a very ‘Windsor’ accent at the time and my sister was born there. I loved living there. I haven’t been back as I think it won’t look the same and will spoil my memories. I went to school on the King’s Road. I didn’t watch this afternoon after the hearse left London. I just saw a little on the evening news. It was so lovely here I wanted to go outside.

Glad you enjoyed? Your day.

Don’t put the grill on to quicken heating the Everhot and then put a cake in. It must be viciously hot still as I burnt the top. Have managed to scrape off the dark brown and salvaged it. Maybe trifle.

Some days you just shouldn't bake. This was one of them!

Boudoir is a tip because I am still sorting from last week.

I meant to raise a glass and then forgot. So I am sipping an Elderflower Liqueur Gin in bed! It is in a Liqueur glass I might add.

Ta Da

I spent quite a while cleaning the kitchen...enough said!

Redsquirrel5 · 19/09/2022 23:57

Ditsy I saw her lots of times when we lived in Windsor. It was in the 60’s but I never met her. I also saw The Queen and Prince Phillip at Lowther horse trials. 70’s. I have a photo of PP and his team of four somewhere in the house.
I met Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden in the Great Park and saw Princess Anne and Prince Charles there riding frequently. We went to the Polo a few times too. I was mad about horses.
Later on I met Princess Alexandra ( she was lovely) twice when we lived in Scotland and I saw Princess Anne up there. I volunteered for RIding for the Disabled for two to three years and Princess Anne had friends there and sometimes flew into the RAF base. We had friends in the RAF, one of whom was a pilot🤫If it was foggy in Aberdeen then the Queen and Prince Phillip and other members of the Royal Family flew to that base on the way to Balmoral and also to see Prince Charles and Prince Andrew at school. It was near where we lived. My friend’s mum worked at the school and her sister’s went there. I went to the wedding in the Chapel. You had to get special permission.
Strange really that I lived in two areas where we saw them quiet frequently. Prince Charles has been to our village too. He came quietly in the evening to visit the church.
They rather like mixing with local people quietly especially in Scotland. A pity some that marry into the family feel the need to make headline news!
I bet Harry is sorry for the hurt he caused her and the fact that he didn’t bring his children to see her one last time. I’m not sure if he changed his mind and visited himself. Or if that was all media hype.
I am glad the Jubilee went well. The Queen looked so happy on the balcony.

Sorry that was longer than I meant.

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/09/2022 05:34

I love to hear your stories red❤️
That well done on the degree.im not suprised it was hard work with 6kids!UK one?
Ditzywill save my hug of tea for a deserving victim 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Willow no internet sounds both idyllic and a pita.
Edhow lovely you had a chance to visit.£20 to park tho😱😱😱😱😱

We watched all of the London part(except lil zoo who found the pomp and ceremony funny and didn't see the point of watching)and the procession to Windsor then went for a walk.

Yet another busy day here.TAF meet at 1215,the possibly taking DD to mind crisis cafe later(as in town can collect some stuff needed from Argos and hopefully life of pi I ordered at Waterstones will be ready.i ordered it from Amazon with next day delivery as he's ment to read for school and they then said not available told October 20th!

EspeciallyDivided · 20/09/2022 07:37

Lovely stories @Redsquirrel5 , you have had such an interesting life.
I only saw The Queen once, in her Silver Jubilee year, she opened a park near us. I narrowly missed seeing Camilla doing a surprise visit here last year and Sophie Wessex is patron of a local charity so she visits quite a bit although never seen her. A friend of a friend works at the school Lady Louise has just left and says she’s lovely. I’ll remember that about the EH. I did the thing of cleaning the hotplates by sprinkling water on yesterday, a but hazardous (potential for steam scalds) but wow it did a good job.

Trying to type with a cat perched on my lap here, lovely snuggles but tricky to type.

We are in the master bedroom (boudoir) this week, our mission is to put away stuff that hs got left out in the bedroom, clothes into the wardrobe, mugs back to the kitchen etc.

Tuesday is planning day and don’t forget routines. September is night time routine month. I find a night time routine of putting my clothes out for the next day (at least on weekdays) very helpful, also assembling packed lunch and anything I need to take to work. Here is Flylady’s link to routines

I loved your tales of the royals Red I used to be mad about horses too. I had an awesome one and once rode him round Windsor Great Park on an organised ride to raise money for charity. An amazing experience.

ED I love your cat pic 😍

Speaking of the ads, I was reading a thread about the Queen's funeral earlier and someone posted that they got ads for a body bag! 😳 With a screenshot and everything!

Ta Das:
🐈 took DS to school, he thought he missed the bus so he came home, but it was just really late
🐈 cooked DH his breakfast
🐈 dressed, hair done, makeup on (yes, I drove DS to school in my pj's! 😆)
🐈 went to next big town to get some shopping done, mostly bulk shopping
🐈 put everything away, once home
🐈 bleached both bathrooms
🐈 LOLs x3, including sheets from our bed (and put back on) and towels
🐈 went to ILs to check on cats, vacuumed and mopped their floors for them since they're away for the week (I now ache all over, as I use bucket and rag to clean the floors, not an actual mop)
🐈 aired out ILs house

Back to work tomorrow. I'm doing a little bit every day on my lunch to clean ILs house, since I go there every day for lunch. I thought it might be nice for them to come home and not have to clean at all 😇
Anyway, must do my bedtime routine. I already got my lunch ready for tomorrow, I just have to get my clothes out for tomorrow and take a shower. Hopefully I can get to bed at a reasonable time tonight, I'm tired 😴

Morning all,
Lovely “Queen” stories. Another beautiful but chilly morning, I have stayed inside for my breakfast today. No cats lurking this time, they have troughed down their breakfast and cleared off.

Well, in the boudoir yesterday I put away a suitcase which DS had got out and then not used for his uni packing, took a bag of old curtains from under the bed downstairs to take to the charity shop and got out winter coats, hats, gloves etc. Need to round up some summer stuff to put away.

Today is Wednesday, I am getting confused a lot this week due to the BHol. So it is Anti-Procrastination Day. Here is the flight plan link

www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Our mission in the boudoir today is to go after those dust bunnies. I bought one of those long thing dusters from Lakeland recently so I’m going to have a go behind the radiator with that, also the ceiling does have some cobwebs. See you later.

Redsquirrel5 · 21/09/2022 09:51

Ah thank you.
Loved hearing the other stories too.
That is lovely Willow.
ED glad to hear that about Lady Louise she appears to be a lovely, poised young women.
Ditsy that will have been a great experience. I loved going to the Great Park. Dad used to take me sledging there. That’s where we met Lord Snowdon and Princess Margaret. He stopped the car he was driving and asked how the snow was for sledging. I remember thinking how beautiful she was and what a lovely smile he had. She wasn’t smiling.

I will pop back tonight.

Naughty corner with Zoo. Hills - maybe she was going use the pointy stick on one of us🤣

I am at the market soon, then picking up friend’s child from school feeding her and other two ( sports after school) then across country to other friend and flower club. Must remember to take flowers.
Boudoir is a tip as I am still doing ‘ other room ‘ and half of it is in here. I did do boudoir while you were doing kitchen.

TA Da

Finished cleaning out baking cupboard. So stick and span not sure if I dare post a photo. I need to find a home for a bowl full of stuff on the table. Hot spot! Baking drawer half done.
