Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term

EspeciallyDivided · 31/08/2022 20:55

Welcome to the September Flylady Thread where we follow the Flylady routines for running our homes and lives. Links to the relevant parts of the Flylady site are posted each morning (most of the time - see naughty corner below). The Fledgling threads are long running, some have been posting for years some are new, all are welcome. Just jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything. The chat is an important part of the thread too, housework is not the be all and end all, we like to pass the time amongst friends while we get our houses in order.

This is not a strict thread but a gentle way of following the guidelines on the Flylady website without having to sign up the emails, which can become a bit overwhelming. Do as much or as litle as you can, there is no judgement here.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

Babysteps and household focus zones start again on the 1st of every month hence a new thread at the start of each month to keep things orderly. That is one of the great things about Flylady, you can jump in whenever because everything comes back round again soon. You are never behind.

Lastly we have a naughty corner - if you are struggling in any way this is a spot to join in the chat snuggled into comfy cushions with some nice drinks and nibbles until you feel ready to Fly again. So even if you have not lifted a finger around the house you can stay and chat. The thread leader may be found there from time to time putting the kettle on and plumping up the cushions.

Welcome to September.

This link www.flylady.net/c/lp.php is the Flylady launchpad. All the different parts of the system can be found here.

This is the Flighplan - the do do list which updates daily www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Apparently past me had my back and i had a packet of gluten free cracker bread in the car. And there is plenty cheese in the fridge. Also decided to add make doughnuts to the to do list. 1. because i want them, 2. it will help tame ds.

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/09/2022 21:02

ta da
metric crap ton

To do
Still too much.

But i have clean bedding, had a bath and am going to go for a walk to stop my back seizing. And there is only a few things that have to be tidied tomo. The rest can be stashed and dashed. With only a hoover and mop really needing to be pushed about. Obviously i would rather not have to stash and dash, but that would require help and there is none. So tis what it is.

Hope everyone has had a reasonable day in the end.

EspeciallyDivided · 15/09/2022 21:19

Quiet on here today, hope everyone is OK. I’ve had another day at work then been to the gym and aquafit tonight, got a load of washing done this morning and line dried but not much else apart from some routine stuff. Day off tomorrow and hoping to catch up with the house a bit but I’ve got a yoga class, a face to face meeting 10 miles away, a flu jab appointment and a zoom meeting to fit in.

Just checking in. No flying to report.

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/09/2022 05:16

hills can't go wrong with crackers and cheese!
Willow afternoon cake sounds lovely!
Ditzy one of my cats had cat flu as a kitten and has problems as an adult with breathing/snot.its not usual for cats I promise!(and she's such a cutie we forgive her snorting everywhere!)it's worse in heat/cold and season changes so now is a big snot time for her!
Red yep, still got the same three furry overlords!I can hear Nellie yowling for breakfast as she can hear a tiny noise in here😁Mr scoutcats not been home much past few days, think in daytime he's been sunbathing on next doors trampoline(he's black to any newbies and a senior not now who loves a nice warm spot for a nap)
Perry sorry you missed gymnastics.
Ed nice D's let you know he got back and was ok after pub crawl🥰

<Waves to everyone else>
I managed reclaim about 3/4 kitchen in the end.all surfaces got stripped and scrubbed,a lot wash up done.managed break turntable all my herbs and spices live on which is rather a disaster as I've loads!hoping get last few bits done today!
Cleared up a furball, rewashed a pile clothes(by pile I mean 5loads) as cat kindly snuck into my room and barfed/furballed on them having made a nice nest<swears at zoolets for leaving my door open.i think was lil zoo hunting for a hairbrush!>
I did have enough space to cook dinner.
DS wanted sausages, roasted veg and parsley couscous.lilzoo refused entertain that and had a pasta salad with lots veggies and mixed beans top little grated cheese and had lots herbs etc in it.i prefer to do one choice, but since being back at school she's being ultra lucky again and I don't want her losing ridiculous amount of weight so it's a case of humouring her currently as she's more stubborn than a mule(which is why camhs aren't making any headway with her either)

Today's list includes finish kitchen, find front room and wash duvet as ment to be 5 overnight here tonight!!

Have a good day everyone!
Will try and check in again later

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/09/2022 05:18

*she's ultra picky stupid auto 🥕

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/09/2022 07:46

Sorry food is a bit of a hassel at yours atm Zoo and grr Angry at the door being left open.

One of the things i did yesterday when i disassembled my bed to clean under it was to put the winter bedding on my bed. Which may be a problem because it is so comfy and cosy i don't want to move. My to do list on the other hand says i have to shift butt and shift butt fast.

Power of three today:
coffee, breakfast and clothes
load of washing on
gather laundry that is waiting to go in machine in a basket so it is off the floor

First up pain killers.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 16/09/2022 09:15

Morning. Only just woke up 🫣😴 so sleepy.

*because I found out yesterday I have another interview at 11 today 😩 scared!!! But I have written lots of notes - no presentation required this time - and the external person on the panel is lovely so hopefully it’ll be ok.

EspeciallyDivided · 16/09/2022 09:20

Morning all,

www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

flight plan for Friday here - clear out your car and bag day and date night.

The mission is to wash the bathroom floor and carry out a 27 fling boogie in the other room (Flylady seems to have a lot of terms for what is basically tidying up and chucking out).

OP posts:
pompomseverywhere · 16/09/2022 13:11

@HillsBesideTheSea winter bedding sounds lovely. What is it..a think duvet or a total change of bedding?

@CurseYouPerryThePlatypus hope the 11am went well

I've been confused again this week. I thought we were doing the office but actually it's the bathroom and one other room? I don't know why I'm finding following this so hard. I'm not usually hard to teach!

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 16/09/2022 13:42

When flylady says “one other room” it’s meant to be left up to us - so it may be a home office, or a spare room, or kids’ bedroom etc.

But for some reason often the missions can be confusing with the extra room as she tends to be specific - take or leave them or adapt them as you see fit🙂

Interview today was much better than Monday’s, absolutely wiped now and just hope we all hear the results soon because this week has been crazy. Far too overwhelmed to do any more home ed etc so we are turning the TV on and calling it a day/week. It has been productive though in a work sense and with home ed generally (Cagletini really enjoyed her first gym class!) so a positive end to the week.

I have however completely ignored the house for far too long!

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/09/2022 14:08

@pompomseverywhere i change the weight of my duvet but i also switch from poly cotton to brushed cotton. The brushed cotton bedding is just extra soft and cuddly.

well the access to what was needed was provided in every room. only one box of stash and dash was created but the house was not tidy at all by any stretch of the imagination. <sigh> there is still so much that needs to be done.

I am about to head out to run an errand in the hills. But i am going to stick my head under the tap and wash my hair first as i have a bit of a headache and clean hair can help. Otherwise an early night is planned.

DitzyBluebells · 17/09/2022 00:11

I have winter bedding too Hills mine will go on at the end of the month. Hope your headache went away.

For anyone wondering what my winter bedding is: quilted mattress protector, heavyweight duvet and a blanket on top, with the ordinary bedding set.

Glad the interview went ok Perry.

Thanks for the cat flu info Zoo hope snotty cat feels better soon

Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term
CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 17/09/2022 07:14

Morning! I am really annoyed to be awake already as I didn’t sleep till about 2. Might grab some breakfast and try and sleep again but I feel that ship has sailed.

YesTaDa
🥁prepared for interview a bit more by reading notes etc
🥁played a card game with the family
🥁interview - much nicer experience than the previous one
🥁tiny bit of other work (couldn’t focus)
🥁put Cagletini to bed

And…
🥁GOT A PROMOTION!!!
😁😁😁 it was the one from Monday’s interview - in today’s I did score second to someone with a huge amount of experience so I am really proud of what I’ve achieved in both TBH! Will find out the details next week but I will be gaining a few more hours I believe, still flexible working though.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 17/09/2022 08:55

Ahem, obviously I mean yesterday’s not today’s interview. I don’t even have the excuse that I wrote it yesterday 🙈 brain clearly not working!

Must ensure Cagletini gets ready for dancing. Might have lunch out after to celebrate - DH was at a work thing last night and I was overwhelmed and tired anyway. Also have a couple of bits that need buying so can combine the two.

Redsquirrel5 · 17/09/2022 09:27

Congratulations Perry that is marvellous.

Not here long. I have had tummy bug. Need to go to the market today. Craft stalls outside so hope to go to last hour of that. Don’t open till 10 and I need to be in by 10:30am.

Managed an hour sorting yesterday but spent some time in Am in bed and in afternoon I went to enjoy the sunshine by sitting reading my new book. Felt glad to be alive and felt glad to be retired. I think that may have been one of the first times since I left so guess my mental health improving and I am moving on.😃
Had hardly anything to eat yesterday and day before. Going to have some cereal now and hope I feel ok. Had to TELL self yesterday that I was a volunteer and didn’t need to go when I wasn’t well.

I don’t change to winter bedding until about October. I do have duvet back on now though. Winter is duvet, Laura Ashley thin pretty cover then old fashioned eiderdown with cover that matches curtains. I have DS2 cast off curtains up now though. Could put old pink one on instead this winter🤔I like layers.

We don’t usually light the MF stove until October half term but maybe this year it will be a bit sooner. I was chilly last night. DH said it was because I was ill which meant he wasn’t lighting it. Need to ring fireman as we get one of them to sweep it.

Right better get cracking.🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋everyone. Hope you have a good day. Hope people behave Hills.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 17/09/2022 10:32

Thanks red :)

Should really get going. Have decided on lunch in nearby town.

❗️Figure out bus times for later and get ready on time
❗️Order some needed bits and pieces online
❗️LOL - have neglected laundry the last few days

Perfect28 · 17/09/2022 10:37

So I was intrigued and clicked the link (would love to get my house sorted!) First page suggests keeping a shiny sink by drying it every time it gets used. Utter madness. I used to live with a woman who insisted on this. It really was the most bonkers thing. Do people on this thread believe that's a positive thing? I know it's just one thing but...

EspeciallyDivided · 17/09/2022 10:52

I think most of us are fairly pragmatic about following Flylady's exact instructions. I tend to wipe it down in the evening after the kitchen has been cleared and give it a good scrub when it needs it. Similarly I give the bathroom basin a wipe down every morning and a good scrub when it needs it.

OP posts:
EspeciallyDivided · 17/09/2022 11:01

The thing is, keeping the sink shiny does lift my spirits a bit, makes the house seem better kept. A bit like brushing your hair, some do it more often than others but you look smarter if you keep it done.

OP posts:
DitzyBluebells · 17/09/2022 11:47

Perfect I have never shined my sink or dried it. It gets cleaned with whatever spray I'm using along with the rest of the kitchen, during the weekly clean. The concept of shiny sink works though. You can't shine it until its empty. So although I never shine it, I now do the dishes every evening, meaning I can put them away every morning. This gives me more working space in my tiny kitchen. Before FlyLady there was always either a pile of dishes on the worktop next to the sink or a pile of dishes on the drainer.

Don't feel you have to do everything perfectly. If you want to join in, adapt the FlyLady system and make it work for you.

Congratulations on the promotion Perry you so deserve a celebration today 🎉🥂

Gorgeous sunset pic Zoo.

I've done nothing useful yet 😔

EspeciallyDivided · 17/09/2022 12:17

Anyway, I have just shined my sink 😀.

Today is Family Fun day on Flylady, so no specific missions, just keep your routines ticking over. To develop these routines you kind if need to start following the babysteps but she also describes morning and before bed routines here
