Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term

EspeciallyDivided · 31/08/2022 20:55

Welcome to the September Flylady Thread where we follow the Flylady routines for running our homes and lives. Links to the relevant parts of the Flylady site are posted each morning (most of the time - see naughty corner below). The Fledgling threads are long running, some have been posting for years some are new, all are welcome. Just jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything. The chat is an important part of the thread too, housework is not the be all and end all, we like to pass the time amongst friends while we get our houses in order.

This is not a strict thread but a gentle way of following the guidelines on the Flylady website without having to sign up the emails, which can become a bit overwhelming. Do as much or as litle as you can, there is no judgement here.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

Babysteps and household focus zones start again on the 1st of every month hence a new thread at the start of each month to keep things orderly. That is one of the great things about Flylady, you can jump in whenever because everything comes back round again soon. You are never behind.

Lastly we have a naughty corner - if you are struggling in any way this is a spot to join in the chat snuggled into comfy cushions with some nice drinks and nibbles until you feel ready to Fly again. So even if you have not lifted a finger around the house you can stay and chat. The thread leader may be found there from time to time putting the kettle on and plumping up the cushions.

Welcome to September.

This link www.flylady.net/c/lp.php is the Flylady launchpad. All the different parts of the system can be found here.

This is the Flighplan - the do do list which updates daily www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Babysteps are here www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

Morning all! Lovely to see lots of newbies, welcome on board 💐

I am awake before the alarm, sooo sleepy though so not getting up immediately. Being collected at 9.30 (Cagletini and I are going back in friend’s car with most of the luggage while the others take the train) so it’s not a huge rush.

YesTaDa - granted it’s a holiday but I want to get back to doing daily lists this month!
☀️A nice trip out to a steam railway
☀️Had a nice grown up dinner at friend’s hotel while DH went back with the Caglets
☀️Pretty much finished packing
☀️Helped tidy the lodge
☀️Put Cagletini to bed

Best do a Power of Three really!
po3.1
❗️Meds
❗️Dressed
❗️Wake Cagletini

Friday.

Morning all, today’s flightplan link is here www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

It updates every day so if you are up before me you can click through from the opening post or the previous day.

@pompomseverywhere yes, those are today’s mission jobs, I did the door but need to do the mats.

Flylady also has a daily focus, Friday is declutter your purse (bag) and car day. Also date night. Both car and bag badly need doing in my case. But no date night as DH and DD go to archery.

www.flylady.net/d/daily-focus/daily-focus-friday/

In addition there is a monthly focus which for September is our bedtime routine www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/september/

Today’s babystep is www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-2/ Get Dressed to Shoes. A bit controversial as many don’t wear shoes in the house and even those that do are unlikely tp put them on till they need to go out IME. But the principle of being up and ready to face the day is sound.

I might not be able to keep up posting this many links every day, but will aim for at least the flight plan and a mention of what else is happening. The best way to navigate these sections os from the launchpad which is in the opening post.

Welcome to @laalaaleelee and @mothermacca and well done on sink shining.

@WeegieGranny2022 lovely to hear about the LOs growing independence.

@Redsquirrel5 - well done on the table, we have a wooden kitchen table which is probably 6 or 7 years old, it was bare wood when we bought it and it went straight into use under a PVC tablecloth and never got waxed or varnished. When we did the kitchen up last year the oak worktop came with some varnish that gave such a lovely finish that I used the leftover on the table and it has transformed it.

@CurseYouPerryThePlatypus and @GreenWillowAndCatkins hope you have had nice holidays.

Day off for me today but will be spending most of it taxiing family members all over the place. Taking DS 10 miles in one direction for his volunteering, home to pick up DH and drop him 10 miles in the other direction for a hospital procedure. Then back to pick DS up from the first direction and back to get DH again later in the day. Hoping to get the main food shop and a bit of “leisure” shopping with DD in hospital town done too.

Can I join please. I've done fly lady on and off since my children were tiny. The youngest is now 15 and I still haven't managed to keep it up. I've had the app on my phone for a while now and it's quite helpful if I actually use it.

EspeciallyDivided · 02/09/2022 08:44

Hi @BumWeasel welcome. I must admit I haven’t tried the app, on the basis that if I pick up my phone I will get tempted to scroll social media instead of doing my chores. But I might try it and see one of these days.

I am not a tech person. Tech makes me swear a lot.

People are being peopley. It's a thing. Loud argument broken up. Cause of argument is sulking and pulling victim complex. Teen has scuttled off to bed and is in hiding. Don't blame him

Massive to do list today. <sigh> and study that needs to be done.

mothermacca · 02/09/2022 10:37

Good morning everyone. So far today I have hung a load of washing out and put another load in. I've cleaned my front door and brushed my step/shook my welcome mat out. I cleaned my bag out the other day but I think I may swap bags and purses today instead. My car is a walking abomination Blush I will do this later. Today I need to take DS to get his hair cut ready for school Monday. 3 out of my 4 back to school and 1 starting college. Looking forward to have some routine back Wine I am back to uni at the end of September so will use this month to declutter Halo

EspeciallyDivided · 02/09/2022 15:57

@mothermacca I've got one starting college and one starting uni (after 6th form not college) so no more school for us, but total changes of routine. DD starts college on Monday and DS goes off to uni on the 11th.

Oooh, so many newbies! Hello to all 👋

Not much for ta das as I'm working, but last night I did handwash dishes, put them away, and wiped countertops and sink.
At work today I have changed out some decorations, to pumpkins etc, nothing too crazy though.

I still really need to clean my doors! Something I'm planning on doing tonight/ tomorrow.

Sorry for lack of personals, I'm on my break right now.
🍒👋 to everyone

pompomseverywhere · 02/09/2022 20:37

@BumWeasel I might try the app if o have phone storage.

I've totally forgotten about car and handbag today until reading the thread. I'll add it in tomorrow.

✅ shined sink

✅ completed bedroom routine

✅ doors and mats

✅ no date night but I'm trying to chat and be nice. That's as good as it gets with two small kids.

Will have a look now at what's next for tomorrow.

Upsadiddles · 02/09/2022 21:26

Ooh welcome lovely newbies. Nice to have you all on board Beststep, PomPoms, Laalaa, Mother and Bumweasel. Also chuffed to have lovely absent fledglings back.

Mothermacca I am desperate for some routine back. DD(5) can be a bit of a nightmare without it, the poor baby keeps getting her sleep disturbed, the house frequently ends up in chaos and I lose the plot multiple times per day. Roll
on Tuesday!

ED we are now down to weeks rather than months for the return 😩.

YesTaDas:
✅ sorted HR appointment (a new job role comes along with a lot of hassle apparently)
✅ tidied hallway
✅ did some ironing
✅ usual routine stuff - s&s, sink shiny, laundry etc
✅ got DD to do some reading and a bit of her maths app ready for going back, and also convinced her to tidy her room before bed <faints>
✅ got DD to try on new school cardigans etc. All massive, but last year’s are actually still fine so I’ve packed these away for next year
✅ did September’s planning

TaDas:
✅ sorted more return to work admin
✅ LOL out on line and random piles of clean laundry collected up and put away
✅ tidied dining table hotspot and wiped it down
✅ had a good tidy of downstairs ready to do my Saturday home bleurgh in the morning
✅ decluttered coffee table basket of doom
✅ dropped off a return
✅ discussed the internals of our new wardrobe with the wardrobe buildy man - hopefully complete in a few weeks
✅ set up childcare account with nursery ready to pay the first bill soon <cries>

ta didn’t -
👎 clean the door (couldn’t be arsed)
👎 sort my car (it’s a pit but DH was out and I’ll need a good go at it without trying to entertain DC)
👎date night - abandoned by DH for a birthday party, so it’s a date with my book instead now both DC are finally asleep.

Have a good weekend everyone

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/09/2022 21:48

ta da
deal with drama
1 load of washing
run a person to do some shopping errands
throw a card through the door of a friend
Errands in town t'other side of side
Hit the big supermarket in the City
Appointment with GP
Work on a craft project as was feeling dizzy after all the chasing about
Take the dang iron tablet!
pick up the meds GP set through from appointment
deal with drama round 2

no study was done, the car is a disaster, the to do list for the weekend is completely out of control. And my early night disappeared. Hmm
tomo is a new day and all that.

Welcome to the newbies.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 02/09/2022 22:14

ta da
🚗walked to shop with Cagletini to get provisions etc
🚗packed car when friend arrived
🚗made terrible attempt at helping navigate
🚗cuddled the bunny and changed litter
🚗put Cagletini to bed - this took longer than usual because she suddenly had the idea of a bee themed day and now that’s a thing. Followed by a minor strop about how unfair it is that she can’t go to the moon.

EspeciallyDivided · 02/09/2022 22:18

I didn't do my car or bag either <places self in naughty corner>.

I spent most of today in the car and covered about 100 miles in 10 mile journeys. It kindly warned me the battery in the keyfob is getting low so that's another job for the list.

Tada!
Emails
Driving
Talking - lots to discuss ATM
Went to gym
Took DS to GP to ask for a copy of vax records to check before uni - gave up waiting for phone to be answered and went round there for immediate very helpful response from receptionists.
Did weekly menu plan and food shop using Hello Fresh cards
Planned weekend
Put duvet back into cover on our bed, we were just using the cover in hot weather but fed up of it getting all tangled up every night.
Printed out DS's A level results before we get thrown off the school system

Tada.
Cats fed.
Wash on
Harpic lav.
Nearly faint at sight clean sink, remember back with flylady and am assured this is my house 🤣
Yesterday I worked on the girls room of doom.finished that today with trip under lil zoo bed.fossilized cat furball wasn't terribly welcomed but joys of furry overlords I guess!
Clean that up
Note need get some storage boxes(she's inherited some GCSE stuff from dd2 and it's stacked under there in bags).how is my baby in year 10<sobs>
Tidy her wardrobe.
Begin the inevitable mountain laundry generated from clear up(first load was towels).
Tidy D's wardrobe, adding a fabric thing that is like boxes+dead technical me) and folded his jumpers into that.organised his drawers.rejig top wardrobe after he got cross and bang against it and a box fell off and got him in the head(luckily wasn't anything heavy).
Under his music sleeper found a small but cat poo that had been disposed off from between toes as had litter in it too.lovely☹️.clean that up.rejig and put away and it's now a tidy organised space again(has storage cubes and all his extensive colouring stuff is there, plus writing/drawing stuff, teddies etc.i miss the boxes of Lego but he is too big for that now.gds enjoying a jigsaw with me at mo(space themed) and is about work on a matchstick model.
Continued laundry piles (did 6 in total, and still got loads now muck about in his room too)
Escaping the box dungeon decided tackle landing, hall and stairs as dd2has a missing lanyard for 5th form.we will be fined if can't find it and I expected it to be dumped in hallway dump spot.alas, nope the hunt for that continues...
Sorted chazza bags into less trip hazard.
Sorted cat food crate, removing empty boxes/packets kibble(D's a nightmare not removing once finished then I glance in passing thinking there's loads left when there isn't)
Sweep landing and stairs.
Organise shoe rack.
Clear dumping spot.
Head out brief walk D's as I cannot breathe post sweeping and slow stroll best cure for that.
Move black bin back to proper spot<bin men dumped it on our stone but at front and if I add bags I never be able shift it off that!)
Tidy stack recycling bags next recycle bin ahead Mondays collection
empty littertray and scrub.reload fresh litter.
Note to self need more litter...
Take down ridiculous amount full carrier bags rubbish and 4binbag size recycling bags and deposit in/by appropriate bins outside.
Nice hot shower and then made sandwich tea!
Rare bit time lil zoo- started watch the secrets she keeps on I player.looks promising.
Sat watch bit TV D's fell asleep watch it(around 1030/11 I think?)awoke at 4 thinking where am I and brain whirring so I know attempts at sleep again are futile.will go start deep clean my room about 6am- before that furry overlords will then start yowling for an early brekkie!

Have a good day everyone

pompomseverywhere · 03/09/2022 05:53

@CurseYouPerryThePlatypus I love the new themed day idea whilst feeling sorry for you. Let us know how it goes.

@Stilllivinginazoo wow you must feel invincible after doing so much ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 03/09/2022 07:38

Morning everyone! I am Not Happy to be awake so early, didn’t sleep well at all despite being absolutely shattered.

Pom 😁 I’m quite looking forward to it - she declared September 25th as Bee Day 🤔 but I will probably do it earlier while it’s fresh. For context she’s home educated - or at least she officially will be from Monday as that’s when DD1 is back to school (year 11 😱). DS is still home ed too, he would be starting year 9! Will have an easy few days though I think.

I am not happy to be awake since before 7, I am so tired and achy from the holiday (a flare up was inevitable really but it was worth it!), the house is an absolute pit and we have no food in. So lots to do between us.

po3.1
❗️Meds, food, charge phone
❗️Pay for Cagletini’s first block of home ed gymnastics club
❗️The first of many post holiday LOLs (although it could be worse, we did one big LOL at the on site laundrette)

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 03/09/2022 07:39

Ha, I’m so Not Happy to be awake I said it twice 😳🤣

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/09/2022 08:16

Are you doubly unhappy to be awake then Perry🤣🤣🤣🤣
Alas pompom I never feel invincible.my kids<zoolets>have loads of "stuff" and uphill battle to gain any sense control if it all think utter carnage rather than chaos!haha.

Tada.
Cats fed.
Load 1 in.
Harpic lav.
Put away stuff accrued on dining table

My room
Pull out blanket box and clean behind/check no mould(house suffers with damp dreadfully)
Clear floor window side of bed, putting stuff away/bin/recycle.
Sort corner of stacked stuff got lost in sea of memories of cards zoolets made, cards, booklets from outings all nostalgic and bit sad tbh how little time I have left with them before they fly the nest.
Wash now in dryer.
More in.
About rejig stuff on blanket box then have breakfast..

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/09/2022 09:00

Zoo currently working on elbow length wrist warmers. Not entirely certain what in hell convinced me that that was a good idea, they are going on for miles! but finally got to the thumb increases.

Need to hit the grown running to day. Only thing that feels like it has been hit is me. Urgh. my muscles are noping and I have not even moved. First up - coffee. And from there we shall see what happens.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 03/09/2022 09:00

Oops, catching up on thread and see I’ve already managed to repeat myself re Caglets/home ed/school years! That’s what comes of posting the first time when absolutely shattered 🤣

Lovely to read of the progress made with the LOs weegie and I am pleased to spy date night on your list hills 😉

Right, I did my first power of three and then watched a random crime documentary episode on the iPad while munching dry cereal.

po3.2
❗️Check payslip and wage payment as boss said some have been wrong, we need to let her know
❗️Clean weekly planner board and shopping list board
❗️Another LOL (just doing 1 hour wash cycles)

pompomseverywhere · 03/09/2022 09:13

@Stilllivinginazoo are you doing your own mass clean up alongside Flylady or am I missing a huge many chores that I should be doing?

@HillsBesideTheSea is that cricket or knitting?

@CurseYouPerryThePlatypus what's a power off three?

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/09/2022 09:23

Knitting pompoms
I have crochet blanket or 2 on the go also plus a few dozen half finished projects

Decided to try to work through them as bought a sweater quantity and really really want to get that on the needles, so clear needles first.

Upsadiddles · 03/09/2022 09:46

pompoms don’t worry you aren’t missing anything, our Zoo is the queen of an epic TaDa list. I feel most flattered at being awarded a sold star <preens>. That is an epic list even by your standards Zoo.

Power of 3 is for when you’re struggling for motivation or feeling overwhelmed with lots to do, just pick 3 things and do them. For example, I woke this morning with a severe case of the can’tbearseds, so made myself get showered and dressed, put in some laundry, and feed/clothe the DC. I feel a bit less meh now although I’ve engineered a contact nap from the baby so alas I can do nothing for now

Those wrist warmers sound lovely and cozy Hills.

Hope you got to the bottom of the water Ditzy, and it was nothing big.
