Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term

Welcome to the September Flylady Thread where we follow the Flylady routines for running our homes and lives. Links to the relevant parts of the Flylady site are posted each morning (most of the time - see naughty corner below). The Fledgling threads are long running, some have been posting for years some are new, all are welcome. Just jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything. The chat is an important part of the thread too, housework is not the be all and end all, we like to pass the time amongst friends while we get our houses in order.

This is not a strict thread but a gentle way of following the guidelines on the Flylady website without having to sign up the emails, which can become a bit overwhelming. Do as much or as litle as you can, there is no judgement here.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

Babysteps and household focus zones start again on the 1st of every month hence a new thread at the start of each month to keep things orderly. That is one of the great things about Flylady, you can jump in whenever because everything comes back round again soon. You are never behind.

Lastly we have a naughty corner - if you are struggling in any way this is a spot to join in the chat snuggled into comfy cushions with some nice drinks and nibbles until you feel ready to Fly again. So even if you have not lifted a finger around the house you can stay and chat. The thread leader may be found there from time to time putting the kettle on and plumping up the cushions.

Welcome to September.

This link www.flylady.net/c/lp.php is the Flylady launchpad. All the different parts of the system can be found here.

This is the Flighplan - the do do list which updates daily www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Babysteps are here www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

My sink is not shiny, the kitchen still in mid sort out chaos, ditto re a lot of the house. But i am tired after the mammoth effort to get it ready for yesterday's workman.

ta da
1 load of washing in
cooked breakfast
stay curled up in bed resting.

Wrt to flylady i like the principle of a little and often.

EspeciallyDivided · 17/09/2022 15:06

Perry - brilliant news about the job, well done you.

Red - sorry you are a bit under the weather, glad to hear you are feeling more at peace with retirement now though.

The heating came on here this morning Shock. It was only 5º outside, we have it set to 18º from 7am so it must have dipped below that in the living room where the thermostat is. Nice to have a warm towel for the shower. I’ve washed our sheets and put them on the line, it is a gorgeous day here, I went to the allotment but was too warm to do much work there. I think we’ll stick with the summer bedding for now but might get the electric blanket back on the bed. We have brushed cotton bedding for winter which is gorgeous and snuggly but a bugger to wash and dry as it is so thick and heavy.

Might go and cut the grass, it has grown lots since the heatwave ended.

We hit 4C last night, and wasn't much higher the night before. Autumn is definitely here. I have broken out the wrist warmers for evening walks as i am feeling the cold atm.

Congratulations on your promotion Perry that's great news!

My mum always wiped the sink down when done, so it's something that feels right to me. I don't like water spots either and that helps to keep them to a minimum, especially if you have hard water.

Anyway, I've been working since Tuesday, so no ta das. DS did the home bleugh yesterday though so that was nice to come home to.
We have to do our bulk shopping today, we're running out of things. We also need to get the pool emptied, cleaned and dried so we can put it away. I must head out there soon to get that starting to drain while we're out.

I will be working at my 2nd job tomorrow. The first day back for months. I think we're done camping so they can put me back on the schedule 🙂
I must get moving, it's almost 10am here and I'm being lazy (slept in too!), but I'm going to have my 2nd cup of coffee first!

Hopefully I'll be back with some ta das
🍒👋 to everyone

Zireael · 17/09/2022 18:52

Evening fledglings.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well @Redsquirrel5 hope you're on the mend.

@Perfect28 I'm not really a sink-shiner ... my equivilent is making the beds. A beautifully made bed is what sets the tone for having a productive day at home.

Congratulations on the promotion @CurseYouPerryThePlatypus - what a lovely boost.

Thats a lot of steps @Stilllivinginazoo - you must be shattered.

Ta Da
Washed, dried and replaced dogs bedding
DW load, on, unloaded and next lot loaded

Dogs walked and DS taken to park

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/09/2022 19:07

Watch princess mononoke with D's and lil zoo fab,but long.
Tired now, laundry continues...

Lil zoo has tummyache, think the oat bar followed by a coffee has unbunged her and now she's in pain, poor thing(wouldn't be as bad If ate consistently in the week and all the good stuff she should, but can't argue with a teen who knows best!)

In other news dd2 got a tattoo..

EspeciallyDivided · 17/09/2022 19:11

Was your last comment a surprise @Stilllivinginazoo ?

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/09/2022 19:16

Nah,she's been itching to get one for ages.needed photo ID so got a provision license which turned up Wednesday(can't actually take lessons as has panic disorder)and has no plans to travel overseas.

BloomingHazel · 18/09/2022 05:18

zoo Oooh, a tattoo, that's exciting! What did she get?
ED DH turned our heat up a bit today! That's unusual for him as I get cold before he does 😱
Red I hope you're feeling better

Ta Das:
🍁 pool emptied (I wiped the walls of the pool down while it was draining)
🍁 swept the patio and carport
🍁 threw away some old deflated balls and toys that have been sitting outside
🍁 sprayed off the toys we're keeping
🍁 did a quick grocery shop for dinner tonight and tomorrow
🍁 went to ILs house to tend to their cats, they're away for the week (I'll clean their house for them so it's nice when they get home)
🍁 cooked very delicious dinner with DH, SIL joined us and enjoyed it too
🍁 rotated DW

I did not get the bulk shopping done at Costco, so I'll have to go on Tuesday, since I'm working tomorrow.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/09/2022 06:24

hazel it's a small cat, right a top of her arm(high enough a short sleeve shirt will cover it if school aren't happy about it).it's really pretty and it's given her a little pick me up given how very low she's been.

Determined today's last day of trying sort downstairs to habitable
Kitchen needs bit wash up sorting, surfaces wiping and cupboard fronts.
Living room is main target today, rehoming stuff that's migrated and deep cleaning everything as I know skirting boards begins sofas need a good clean/there's no cat toys so all under sofas!!

WeegieGranny · 18/09/2022 07:39

Yesterday started putting pulses in freezer bags instead of jars. The bags slide into awkward spaces so easily. The jars had been taking up a lot of space.

Stewed some overripe plums, as we have a glut.

Today is laundry day, all day. Also to tidy utility and kitchen. If at all possible, tidy living-room and understairs cupboard. Make some soup with elderly veg. Look up recipes for tomato chutney.

Must report back tonight to prevent backsliding which has happened a lot in the week.

DitzyBluebells · 18/09/2022 12:26

I was helping my friend with the neglected building yesterday, washing down mouldy walls. Going to help again tomorrow, washing curtains. So today's main aim is the home blessings. But I also need to find time to relax because this week has been a bit hectic.

Awesome Zoo a cat tattoo 🐈 how sweet.

Great idea with the freezer bags Weegie I might have to steal that.

Do you mean a children's pool or a proper pool Hazel? I'd love a proper pool. I'd be in it every day in summer. It's on my Things To Do If I Win The Lotto list.

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/09/2022 12:48

Apparently I forgot i am no longer 21.

If you want me i will be taking a nap in the naughty corner...

BloomingHazel · 18/09/2022 14:58

zoo oooh a cat tattoo, that sounds perfect for her!
Ditzy it's a 12ft pool, 3ft deep, has a pump and filter so it stays up all summer, but must come down before it gets too cold (I've attached a pic of it up last year, because apparently I didn't take any this year! 🤦‍♀️). Make sure you actually set yourself a time to relax, and don't feel guilty about it afterwards! 💐 it sounds like you've been really busy.
hills I forget that sometimes too! 😴
weegie freezer bags come in so handy for a lot of things

I made sure to wake up a little earlier than I needed to so that I could relax on the couch with my coffee this morning ☕️ I've had one cup, will get ready, then have my 2nd cup. Then I work 7 hrs. Not so sure I'll have ta das today!

🍒👋 for everyone

EspeciallyDivided · 18/09/2022 23:35

Well, yesterday I felt quite unsettled missing DS, we didn't have anything planned so I was just doing house, shopping and allotment. Today I also had nothing planned so on the spur of the moment I decided to Renew My Spirit and drive to Windsor (DS and DH were doing something else so I went by myself). It's less than an hour drive from here but I haven't been for years. It was fairly busy around the castle when I got there but easy enough to walk around. Security was tight, police and marshalls everywhere but the atmosphere was respectful and I'm glad I went.

Oh I see Hazel sort of a hybrid then. I guess you could swim circles. Your garden is lovely by the way 🏡

Hope you're ok Hills 💤

Yes Zoo it needs a lot of work but has a good basic structure 🏚️

Sounds like a nice day ED the peace of being alone can be quite refreshing I find 🏰

THATissooFETCH · 19/09/2022 08:20

Erm. Hello 🍁🍂🍁

Zireael · 19/09/2022 09:03

Good morning fledglings.

Today already has a funny sort of 'off' feeling. I've been feeling on the verge of tears for days on end, no doubt partly due to not having taken my antidepressents for over a week - need to get into a better routine with this.

Since I was last on the thread properly, my DH has been diagnosed with cancer and has started treatment which we still don't know whether has been effective. Our DS is 9 with autism and not fully aware of the problem; we are trying to be stoic and just getting on with things but it all seems too much at the moment.

I am a senior manager in a health setting and oversee the HR for a large team - they are all wonderful people and work so hard for very little thanks from the public. Several of my lovely colleagues are also seriously ill or undergoing massive life upheavals and I feel I am carrying a lot of them too.

Then there is the national mourning that is impossible to escape from which is enhancing all of these feelings. I loved the Queen - she was such an inspirational woman and role model.

Not sure why I'm posting all this, just wanted to tell someone I guess. Sorry.

EspeciallyDivided · 19/09/2022 09:23

@Zireael <hugs> you are always welcome to offload here, that is a huge amount of difficult things you are dealing with Flowers. I think the death of The Queen has brought a lot of emotion to the surface for many. Pull up a comfy chair in the naughty corner.

@THATissooFETCH ! you are back. How are things?

OP posts:
EspeciallyDivided · 19/09/2022 09:26

I wasn't sure whether to post links today, in the circumstances, but I think not everyone will want to spend the day watching the funeral etc so here we are

www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

The mission for the day, should you choose to accept it, is tossing trash from the master bedroom.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/09/2022 09:34

Morning all. Just about. 🙈 I had a lie in (in my defence I haven’t been able to sleep till 1-2am the last few nights) and since I woke just before ten I’ve done nothing. I can hear DH sorting the kitchen while the funeral is on.

That lovely to see you!!!

Zireal gosh I’m so sorry about your DH’s diagnosis. I can see how it would be extra difficult to explain to DS as well 💐 I hope you can somehow get some support for yourself at work too? It’s not easy to support so many people at the best of times let alone going through this in your own family 💐

I suppose I should get on with stuff really. I will likely struggle to get motivated as I am on a meds break now.
