Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

my insomia was caffiene sensitivity and vit d deficiency. cutting carb consumption in the evening also helped.

work

cooker works again - it dried out

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/09/2021 09:02

Also honey in think aneamia was messing with my sleep,it's still low but much better than it was!
Hillswhoo hoo.one less thing to worry about

My procrastination assistant has stalked off
Best crack on...

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 03/09/2021 11:57

Hills hooray! Glad the cooker has seen sense.

Honey my sleep is affected by caffeine (never after 2pm), alcohol (just don't, if I want to sleep), carbs / sugar (don't sleep well if I have them in the evening).

Zoo I totally recognise the "going to sleep is fine, staying asleep is not". In the end the GP gave me something to help, to break the cycle.

Dancing good luck with quest for joggers. We are suffering similarly finding pants for DS3. In our Tesco you can't have boy pants if you're over age 8 (this week).

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 03/09/2021 12:17

Had a bit of a messy 24 hours, ended up in A&E yesterday with a suspected DVT in the leg of my poorly foot. Finally got home, stabbed with Fragmin, at 0140. Waiting for a follow up call about a scan.

So very grateful the NHS was there, but they are so overstretched. I was 7.5 hrs there in the end, and a lot of the issue was bedblocking - people who needed admitting stuck in the Ambulatory Emergency Care Hub. Including one very deaf old gentleman who had his consultation about his swollen ankle at top volume, while we all studiously pretended we couldn't hear. The highlight was "YOU. CAN. PUT. YOUR. TROUSERS. ON. NOW!". "I. SAID..." etc

StillUpholding · 03/09/2021 13:29

Just realised I haven’t posted links today. Sorry for slacking everyone! Although I’m sure you’ll be plodding on just fine. At work but will catch up on the thread later 👋

It’s declutter car/purse day and the mission is to sweep your porch.

I may have spent an absolute fortune on clothes yesterday😳. I’ve decided to try out a capsule wardrobe for the DC as they have so many clothes that just never get used so I got a new autumn/winter wardrobe for them and we’ll see how it works. I’m half way through getting DS1’s presents for Christmas sorted and DH and I are sorting through the decs tonight to see what needs to be replaced. I want to be finished by next week, I doubt I will be though😩.
zoo stick mans a favourite in our house too. It makes me feel all cosy🥰. Great news about DD2 being able to retake year 12🎉 that’s a gorgeous picture of you and your DD, you both look stunning😍.
yup I agree with hating self care. I’m trying to train my hair so it only needs to be washed once a week. Shaving has gone out of the window since I stopped shaving in lockdown and haven’t really done back since😅.
dancing you’ve got the boots and cats song stuck in my head😂. I’m glad your dads op went well💕
castle congratulations! How exciting🤱🏻.
that there’s a line in fleabag where it says women are born with pain built in to them which I think is a good way of putting it.
willow there’s not many boys in my family so I used up my favourite names with my 2 thinking I wouldn’t have anymore and now I’m stressed in case I do😂. Our boys names are Travis Orville and Waylon Cyrus so a bit unusual which is making it more difficult to find a name that’s similar style. I asked DS1 what would he name minibus if it’s a boy and he said Anakin😂. I hope you’re feeling better now🎉
half you’ve reminded me I need to sort through our cupboards. I haven’t properly done a clear out since DS1 was born so I’m a bit worried to see what I’ll find😬.
Had to take Dcat to the vets today and took the DC and Ddog with me (he doesn’t like being in the house alone for too long). Good lord it was a nightmare please remind me never to do it again🙄. DH wasn’t very happy that I didn’t book it for when he was done with work as he would’ve done it but I’m trying to get out of the house as much as possible with the DC otherwise I’ll go crazy.

halfhope · 03/09/2021 15:15

half you’ve reminded me I need to sort through our cupboards. I haven’t properly done a clear out since DS1 was born so I’m a bit worried to see what I’ll find

That's half the fun flowerbus! I've gone through the medications too so that we are stocked up for the Christmas cold/flu season.

A capsule wardrobe sounds like a great idea especially mix and match stuff. With small kids, they grow so quickly they don't need a lot of clothes (obviously you need enough so you can launder in peace)

halfhope · 03/09/2021 15:32

7.5 hrs? Willow that's so long but glad you got it checked out.

I'm going to be such a deaf old lady Grin but perhaps by then I'll have a lovely health robot like Big Hero 6 to deal with everything Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/09/2021 17:51

I work with deaf little old ladies and gentlemen. By god they be delightfully feisty Grin Highlight of my day. Just phone conversations can be a little tricky...HmmGrin
There are aspects of my work i am going to be miss. Other things not so much.

ta da
Survived work
figured out this app banking nonsense we'll pretend i didn't swear
Looked at the petrol pump and sworn because I have forgotten to check if my car is compatible with the new fuel.
gvot check your car fuel compatibility in case others need

I should do a whole heap of stuff. But af is due, i haven't been sleeping well and i am tired and cranky. So gently done, early night and then ALL the things tomo seems like a good plan to me

HazelNuttyElf · 03/09/2021 18:14

My goodness you lot have been busy!
I've managed to just about feed everybody the last couple of days, clean up the kitchen, rotated DW and got my clothes out for the next day.
I'm leaving work early today, DS has a birthday party tonight, since his birthday is on Sunday. God help me with 3 or 4 boys in the house.
I need to bake the cake right when I get home and get some presents ready that he can open tonight (he'll open the rest on his birthday.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 03/09/2021 20:37

Sorry, my brain's obviously been leaking out of my ears.

Dancing very glad to hear your Dad came through his operation ok and SuperBro is there to help care for him.

zoo what a glorious picture of you and DD1. She looks absolutely radiant and I love that shade of pink on you. Hope that dress becomes your high days and holidays frock, you look beautiful in it.

Hazel good luck with the party tonight. Is DS 12 (ish) or have I lost count?

flowerbus I know what you mean about needing names that fit! Ours are all what you might call classical names and then people kept suggesting things like "John" and "Peter" for DS3. Somehow, Constantine, Harold, Edith and ... Derek didn't quite work 🤣*

*names have been changed to protect the Willowettes.

DD survived her day of fun and enriching team-building activities without killing anyone and is now both exhausted and peopled out.
DS3 has had another lovely day at the seaside with his DGM; they come home tomorrow.

Hills thanks for the reminder about new unleaded petrol. It took 2 weeks to get an answer out of Mazda about whether my little car could handle it, as it is 18 years old and the model itself is from 1998, so it doesn't fall within the "should be fine" category.

MrsTidyHouse · 03/09/2021 22:47

Hello people! I fell by the wayside when school went back mid-August. Overwhelmed by just about everything. But the LOs are more or less settled and happy. LG is in secondary now, and has made nice friends, and they all walk home together. LB is doing well without her, and over the holidays grew to be only half an inch shorter than me!

I need the routine again. I had got a bit scatty and discombobulated by the beginning of this week, and fell in the garden while distracted by my thoughts. Not much damage done except for the arthritic joints getting a bit of a rattle, but certainly a wake-up call to stop wasting energy on procrastination and muddle.

Someone upthread mentioned ADs and sleep. I found they disrupted my sleep badly, and gave me unpleasant and vivid dreams. As I was on a low dose anyway, I tapered off and haven't regretted it. I still have vivid dreams, but they're my dreams, iyswim. And I fall asleep fairly quickly (once I switch off my ipad, of course!).

GoingGoingGoth · 03/09/2021 23:17

Quick pop in, the thread is racing along, just wanted to say I can already see a difference in the house, don’t think the hall has ever looked so tidy

Lovely picture of you & your DD zoo and did you get out from under your cat?

Nice tiles ED

HazelNuttyElf · 04/09/2021 06:29

willow yes! DS is turning 12 on Sunday, I believe he's the same age as your DS3, if my memory serves me well. Preteen boys are stinky, I have decided 🤮 although my DS asked for deodorant a couple of weeks back, he said he could smell himself 🤣 His friends on the other hand..

Party was/ is a success. As we're having a sleepover it's still going on. We went to the local arcade and they had a blast.
I wasn't as organised as I normally am, was rushing getting presents into gift bags while they were downstairs, keeping busy for a minute. It did help to leave work early though, as I was able to get the cake made in time.
The decorations I ordered SHOULD have arrived today. Tracking info says Tuesday delivery. Perfect 🤬 not that I needed that tonight or anything, I guess we'll use those next year.

zoo I did see the pictures of you in your dress - I love it! It looks so good on you.
I really was going to say more, but I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. (Almost 11:30pm here, been awake since 5:40am) I'm so glad I'm on my 4 day weekend!

🍒👋 to everyone, I'll have lots to do around the house tomorrow, I'll see if I can pop on a list or 2

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/09/2021 08:24

Well lil zoo has been an absolute nightmare last 24 hrs, can't wait to "go home"
If she's not 100%get own way utterly vile.dd1 intending set some rules now the wedding is done with but I don't think she's going to find it easy as anticipates as she's had free reign few months doing EXACTLY as she pleases...
I feel both frustrated with things and sad,but right now how unhappy dd2 and D's are there's no way she could stay.i can't even say anything as children's first think her voice only one that matters...

To do
Not LMS
Take dd2 to piercing shop as clear piercings we got yesterday thereas she can't get them out....

StillUpholding · 04/09/2021 08:34

All caught up, you busy bees.

Glad op went well Dancing!

Love the tiles ED. We have the same tiles in cream, also with the grey grout, and I love them.

Hurrah for the cooker sorting itself out Hills. Definitely not what you needed.

Welcome back Tidy good to hear the LOs are settling back into school well.

Hope I agree the once a month bathroom clean doesn’t work. I do mine once a week with the home bleurgh and do more thorough cleaning like tiles and window when it’s that zone.

DD’s capsule autumn and winter wardrobe has just arrived here Flower. I find it so much easier to just order all at once, and what I’ve bought should work with stuff from last year that still fits.

Good that you’re starting to see a difference Goth, well done.

Hope the leg is sorted ASAP Willow.

Hope you managed to get some sleep despite the sleepover Hazel. Annoying about the decorations.

I will never tire of your cat pictures Zoo. Too cute.

Waves to Red, Sing, Merry, Honey, Mc, That, Yup, Castle, Foxes and apologies to anyone I’ve missed.

It’s family fun day today - we are heading out for the afternoon but I’ll be doing half of the home
Bleurgh this morning. No missions today as it’s the weekend (hurrah!). Start of some annual leave for me too (double hurrah!). I am determined to use it wisely and get back on top of the house while DD is at school (sob). She is very excited indeed Willow and is convinced it’s today she’s going.

THATmamaofMANY · 04/09/2021 09:24

Our dcs names are a mixed bag. We have two old people names that havent made it back into fashion, two names which were very popular in the 90s but not now, one which is more popular now than it has EVER been before and one that is very marmite and has had several threads on MN discussing how awful it is!

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/09/2021 10:29

Neither ds nor I like our names. I told him to pick a new one then. Amusingly we both want the same new name. The shortened version being the same, but male/female varieties. Caused much amusement. But i got to call dibs Grin

I am so glad that i dont have to navigate the world of picking names again, it was hard enough the first time around.

Today is a hit the ground running day.
ta da
make list
make sure dehydrator is clean
wash and dry spinach leaves
Get spinach on to dehydrate
check the maths for the batch of jam today.
check timings on dehyrated mushrooms for later
Beat the owl duolingo
Write shopping list - found an excellent recipe for night shade free sweet potato soup yesterday and that is going to go on my list of batch cooking.

not going to write a to do list, might scare a few. It scares me just thing about it. But for now clothes, chicken pie filling in the crockpot and picking up the missing ingrediants for the jam is the order of the day.

halfhope · 04/09/2021 10:32

Mine's 12 too Hazelnutty - he's suddenly elongating in the face and legs and deo is being used too. Apparently they can become self conscious over night and that is beginning to happen too.

Upholding - I'm glad you've found that too. I have a bathroom and an ensuite and I think I'll do one and then the next week do the other for a deep clean. I'll see how that goes.

THATmamaofMANY · 04/09/2021 13:57

Also owner of a 12 year old ds, only change there so far is the smell Envy 13 year old ds1 however is doing all the growing , spots etc

MrsTidyHouse · 04/09/2021 14:29

Swept the front porch and path below it.
Hoovered front hall and stairs up to my bedroom (off half-landing).

Watched last three episodes of "Clickbait"

Now hoovering my bedroom, then rest of stairs as far as LOs' bedrooms.

If any energy after that, stop putting off actual tidy and sort my bedroom piles of papers.

Tumble-dry bedding off pulley.

SingToTheSky · 04/09/2021 15:43

Clickbait is on my watch list!

Blah. Bit of a wash out these last few days! DH’s new meds seem to have knocked him sideways too. I also need to have a repeat blood test as it seems I’m still anemic despite supplements. Gah.

♟taught maths

Errrrm think that’s about it actually. Oh well

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/09/2021 16:02

You know when you have offered to help your kids with their homework and they actually ask for help, but you realise you are old, forgotten everything you used to know and way out of your depth? I am channeling that right now.
