StillUpholding · 29/08/2021 15:23

Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Oh no 😬 is this actual kid with homework, or an analogy for helping Someone with Something?
Either way I expect most of us here can relate 🤣

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/09/2021 17:03

Ds prep work for start of A level maths. Algebric fractions with brackets to be solved in terms of x

SingToTheSky · 04/09/2021 18:36

Ooh! That is one of my faves 😳🤓

My eye has been hurting since last night. I am annoyed. Not sure if something was stuck in it. Gah.

Very very unproductive day here.

Redsquirrel5 · 04/09/2021 18:41

Dried apricots Sing sorry DH under the weather with new meds.

Willow scary about clot. Take it easy.

Zoo she didn’t last long. What a shame for you but Dd1 needs to be strict so she isn’t getting her own way all the time. Lovely photo of the two of you thank you for sharing.

Dancing glad you dad got through op, a worry for you.

ED tiling looks good, my builder told us that he had those tiles and also put grey grout was his partner’s idea.

That I bet it is hectic in your house in the mornings. I remember one of my 1:1 s mum rushing in last minute. A teacher made a remark about lateness one morning and I turned around and said I think she is doing marvellously to have 5 children up, dressed and breakfast eaten and here for five past nine when she has a new baby 👶 ! She looked suitably chastised. She had two girls. My 1:1 was the eldest in Yr5😳no multiples. I have just realised it was his birthday damn I meant to send him a card.

Hazel Party time 🥳 hope it all went well, shame about the decs but they probably didn’t notice.

Sleep deprivation is awful. My GP put me on Amitriptyline because he said no one could function on 2 1/2 hrs especially doing the job I did. I had a lot of pupils with behavioural problems at the time so work was stressful. I found 10 mg too much so cut them in half and I found it was perfect to change my sleep pattern and still be up fresh in the morning. I still woke for a wee or two but I manage to go back to sleep. I am back on them for the anti depressant aspect but hope to scale down. I am certainly very calm even when DH is being really stupid and annoying.

Can someone tell me what Clickbait is I have never heard of it?
Apologies for not being around but I seemed to be busy and distracted but the electric downstairs went off so no WiFi. We managed to get some to fix it temporally today but he thinks it will trip again and then need a new chase put in and new cable to the box.

Can’t believe we are up to 10 pages already! Chatterboxes.

Ta da
Due to electrician being here I have bee sorting clutter in the boudoir.
Again.
Beside drawer.
Medicine box-tidy and replenish tablets.
Sort clothes in two long drawers.
Vacuum mat
Dust chest of drawers

Bathroom
Cleaned basin.
Cleaned shower drain. Tray.
Cleaned loo.

I Swish and Swipe basin and loo every day.
Shower rinsed.

Every Saturday I clean basin, toilet and shower and wash floor the rest is done during zone but I do extra if anyone staying. With just the two of us I can keep it clean but when the kids were here I cleaned it every Wednesday and Saturday and in between if it needed it. We only have the one bathroom but have a toilet in the shed which is cleaned every week. Would like a basin out there but plumber said it would be tricky and therefore expensive and the kitchen is about ten steps.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋to those I have missed.

Redsquirrel5 · 04/09/2021 18:44

Sing that is a worry. Please don’t leave it.

Hills can sympathise but it sounds like you might get some help from a nerdy member.

SingToTheSky · 04/09/2021 18:50

Always happy to do maths.

Tbh that is what I spent much of yesterday evening doing since I had no energy to do productive stuff. I kind of have an excuse now I’m tutoring more though, need to brush up on the later years of the curriculum :o but anyway yes happy to help if needed.

Clickbait is a new thing on Netflix. Crime I think.

I forgot about dried apricots and iron. Yum!

Also yum - bacon and sausage roll for dinner, have requested fried onions with it too 😋

SingToTheSky · 04/09/2021 19:29

Just asked DH for something cold to put on my eye.

DS suggested Boris Johnson’s heart🤣🤣🤣

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/09/2021 20:21

Grinsing

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/09/2021 20:32

Grin that is quite brilliant tbh.

Thank you for the offer sing but i dug out my old a level maths text book and proved that how I wanted to solve was the right direction and solved the 2 equations in less than 5 mins. ds was over complicating it. Left my workings, the text book page out for him. He is currently gaming and I predict a massive scramble tomo. But the fact he has done one subject and looked at the 2 others with having attempted one is actually probably some of the most school work at home i have ever known him to do. So i am keeping stum and just helping when requested.

ta da
finish off chicken pie filling and leave to cool for tomo
shopping for food stuffs that were missing and a quick bob into lakeland for some bits.
2 batches of jam
meat balls prepped, lightly cooked (to the point of just done), cooled and frozen,
tomato sauce is currently on the hob
help teen with homework
washing up
1 load of washing
dishwasher loaded and run.
3 packets of leek prepped for all the things
the what's in the freezer prepped meal wise list started

There is probably other things but i forget.

HazelNuttyElf · 05/09/2021 07:12

hills you're better than me. DD asked if I could help her with algebra 2, I looked at the problem and laughed 😅 there's no way I could do that now!

Sing 😆 🤣 maybe you're DS has a point. I had a feeling of something in my eye the other day, it went away in my sleep, I think I may have scratched my eye though and it healed overnight. I hope it goes away soon, like with mine.

Party was a success! Both boys who spent the night, Had a good night. I made them chocolate chip pancakes (American version, so thicker and fluffier) they seemed to enjoy it.
I do have a list of ta das:

🌻 rotated DW x2
🌻 cleared off and wiped down countertops, under the microwave etc
🌻 LOLs x4
🌻 cleaned glass door in the front of the house
🌻 cleaned living room window (also on the front of the house)
🌻 swept front and side of the house
🌻 DS mowed
🌻 Swept patio
🌻 cleaned picnic table for dinner tonight
🌻 made pumpkin cheesecake mousse for dessert (for those who didn't eat want/ can't eat German chocolate cake)

I'm going to bed, there's more I did today, like our up done pictures, but I'm struggling to keep my eyes open, so I'm going to sleep now.
.🍒👋 to everyone

SingToTheSky · 05/09/2021 07:59

:o

Happy birthday to your DS hazel I’d not realised our boys were so close in age (mine turned 12 on Monday). Glad the party went well!

YesTaDa
👁bit of piano
👁taught English
👁made maths and English homework

Think that’s it. Not really the productive end to the holidays but oh well. Really need to get some stuff done though, just feels like a losing battle the last few days!

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/09/2021 09:09

Going to be honest hazel it is the only bit I can help with. The graphs thing i never got, and trig/differentiation used to kick my butt.

I am awake - i dont want to be
I need to get moving - i dont want to

Feeling decidedly burnout this morning and today is not a rest day.

SingToTheSky · 05/09/2021 09:10

Hills great that it got sorted in the end. I can relate to over complicating things also 😳🤣 does he know what units he’s doing for the first year? (I’m assuming pure and statistics)

I might try and get some mechanics maths books soon to remind myself. DS has declared an interest in becoming an engineer. I’ve found the perfect course for him to do on zoom but it’s £215 a term 😬😭 so need to do the calculations on that.

Eye not quite as sore today so hopefully whatever it is it’s healing!

Right, seriously need to get on with stuff. Seriously. Aaaargh

po3.1
❗️Clean planner board
❗️Decide timings and aims for the day as DH has some errands to run in town
❗️LOL

Dancingtomusic · 05/09/2021 09:14

Anyone else feel like smashing their brains out (why is there no emoji for this!), trying to sort out school uniform?
Trying to use the uniform pinafores from last year, but the navy blue has faded. Is there a washing powder i should be using for dark colours? I use Bold lavendar and camomile powder currently.

Willow- I hope the jab helps you. 7.5hours in hospital is long but thank goodness you were checked.

Joggers- i have had to spend £8 on boys aged 9-10 joggers as the £4 were out of stock again. 🤦‍♀️

My life is so exciting.

SingToTheSky · 05/09/2021 09:54

po3.2
❗️Put command hook up for Cagletini’s bag and coat
❗️Gather dirty laundry into basket
❗️Check diary and write on board

SingToTheSky · 05/09/2021 10:53

po3.3
❗️Covid tests for me and bigger Caglets
❗️Write up lessons
❗️Read for a bit

StillUpholding · 05/09/2021 12:14

Happy Sunday everyone. It’s renew your spirit day. We are doing that with a relaxing day, a delivered Sunday lunch, and possibly a walk this afternoon.

The home bleurgh was only partially done yesterday, but I did have a good sort out of DD’s wardrobe. New clothes and uniform hung up, got her to try on older things, and put away outgrown stuff. It’s all beautifully organised now Smile

Hope your eye is better this morning Sing.

Afternoon all,

I did A level maths but it was MANY years ago and I found it extremely hard, I'd have no chance now.

Having a little laze in the garden before I pick DS up from work. It's a gorgeous day here, sunny and breezy.

Tada!

Up, dressed, breakfast and chat with DH.
Sourdough loaf into the oven (first attempt using EH)
Dropped DS at work
Half an hour at the allotment, picking raspberries and watering (ground is very dry and we've got a mini-heatwave forecast this week).
Sourdough out of oven to cool
Went to pet shop (cat's birthdays this week, bought them some catnip toys)
Picked up click and collect from Sainsburys, popped inside for a couple of bits I'd forgotten
Unpacked shopping
Put washing on
Sampled sourdough - not bad!
Flopped in garden.

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/09/2021 13:51

Mental arithmetic is all I can do..
Dancing they fade no matter what.if it bothers you try dylon them navy again?think you need something to set the new colourtbh I wouldn't worry about itFlowers
Hills hope you day is both successful and the people are not too annoying
Sing hurrah for better eyes
Hazel happy birthday D's,and yum to choc chip pancakes
Stillcongrats on uniform organisation

Yesterday was spent trying sort dd2 clear piercings into her face

Sort behind door

SingToTheSky · 05/09/2021 13:53

I’m glad the sourdough is going well ED

The others are back from town (with hideously expensive shoes for school for DD1 Hmm) so I should get more stuff done now really.

po3.4
❗️Add a couple of forgotten things to planner board
❗️Use eye wash DH bought (it does feel quite a bit better today, but worth doing anyway!)
❗️See if we can figure out how to log in to the HA portal. We never really need to as rent is on a DD from DH’s account, but we need to report a failed light fitting.

SingToTheSky · 05/09/2021 13:58

Aw zoo :( I bet they won’t suddenly outgrow that stuff you know. They’ll always be your kids. 💐

Yikes at the Gaviscon bottles though. 8?!

DH looks like he’s falling asleep again already. The new meds are helping but it’s been over 3 weeks now, I’m really hoping this isn’t a permanent side effect 😭

EssentiallyDisorganised · 05/09/2021 13:59

Aww Zoo, sending hugs. I'm getting those "time is flying past" feelings too, my DCs will also be 16 and 18 this school year.

SingToTheSky · 05/09/2021 14:14

Can we all just marvel at the fact that I logged in to the HA portal on the first try 😱

I mean, I now can’t quite remember what password I guessed, but still 🤣

Repair booked for Wednesday. Hurrah. No more cooking in the dark.

SingToTheSky · 05/09/2021 14:36

Thought of the day: eye baths feel very weird. It doesn’t say how often to do it though 🤔 maybe I should do it again before bed?!

po3.5
❗️Kick DS off YouTube and get him to take his laundry up, then I can put our bedding in the dryer
❗️Chat to DD1 about school stuff
❗️Wash backpacks

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/09/2021 14:51

zoo.

I made a batch of sweet potato soup, most will be frozen for meals at a later date but had a bowl with some buttered bread and lunch time and it is lovely! I probably will need to add a touch more salt simply because i tend towards slightly saltier food but it is amazingly lovely and all mine cos no one else can eat it.

Ds is now asking for help with psychology. Thank goodness this is research and analysis skills at heart and my science background can stop me from floundering.
