Fledglings Soar Calmly into September - the FlyLady Thread

StillUpholding · 29/08/2021 15:23

Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

I’ve not heard of these songs, I suspect that’s a good thing 🤣 Alexa here is mostly used for k-pop and other stuff we all like, but Cagletini does often ask for the Cuphead rap, an annoyingly catchy song based on a switch game that DS loves.

Not discussed lists/plans with DH yet. He’s just had his pre-assessment call (got an arthroscopy next week) and they’ve thrown a spanner in the works

ExtremelyDisorganised · 01/09/2021 10:29

Re flu jabs, I think they're increasing it to all
under-16s this winter. DH and I are eligible on the NHS, DS (17) is not so I have booked him in at Boots, hoping DD will get hers at school because its not easy to book Boots for under 16s.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 01/09/2021 10:32

Yes, just checked NHS, all under 16s eligible this winter. DS might be eligible as he was Group 6 for Covid, the Boots booking things says they will confirm eligibility on the day (DH and I are booked in alongside DS).

SingToTheSky · 01/09/2021 10:43

Oh wow that’s fab news thank you. DD1 isn’t great with needles and I suspect DS will be scared too (he’s only ever had one blood test other than stuff when he was tiny) but we just get that Emla cream to numb it beforehand. I’ve got it on today’s list to ask in Boots, I’ll make sure we take the diary too. I normally don’t worry about the Caglets getting sick but DD1 has been so lethargic and tired since her last virus (it wasn’t covid). Also need to sort her vitamins - since she stopped her melatonin she’s not been taking the vitamins either as they were all kept in the same pill box, so she may be lacking in iron again.

THATmamaofMANY · 01/09/2021 10:45

Only those 2+ on 31st august it seems so our early sept toddler will miss out

YupIHave · 01/09/2021 10:46

Thanks for the welcome back everyone.

Feeling very unmotivated this morning. Staggered down to have breakfast and haven't moved from my chair since.

I was listening to a podcast about getting your to do list done. A lot of waffle later, the podcaster had an idea I really liked. One task you have to get done in the day (usually one you've been putting off and causing you stress) and doing it first thing so it gets it out the way and doesn't cause low level stress for months days on end. I have several of these. So I'll tackle one today.

To-do:
Today's Onerous Task: Paint up water leak patches on kitchen ceiling with anti stain undercoat.

LOL
Charge work iPad
Go for a walk.

Right. Best get going.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 01/09/2021 10:54

Oh yes, sorry, 2-15, not all under 16s.

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2021 11:58

So ikea - their shelves are not helpful when you want specific things (aka 3 extra shelves for an existing unit)

Ta da
swear alot whilst tetrising
Figure out what shelves can be pinched (the one the ice cream maker sits on for a start..)
play hunt the pen for the chalk board labels
Discuss the meal prep/batch cooking plan for the next year. Eyebrows have been raised but I will be damned if I will be responsible for all meals when others are capable of following instructions and a meal plan
get dressed

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 01/09/2021 13:23

Absolutely right, Hills. I have taken a similar stance and now I can't stand to cook, what would you know, DH can manage!

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/09/2021 14:11

singD's has shot up his nose,no needles
Also spacers can be foldable/collapsible to carry anywhere

SingToTheSky · 01/09/2021 16:02

Thank you!

Just waiting to collect the inhalers now but they’ve only got the reliever not the preventer until tomorrow. Party went well, they had their game and then we walked over to the park for cake. Managed to get a few bits done before we left too but I’m not sure I’ll manage anything else this evening I’m tired now 🤣

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2021 18:50

I wish i had the option of crashing. But about to eat tea and head out to do a food shop... It is the big once a month travel to the proper sized store shop, so will take an age Hmm but should be productive.

Still playing tetris in the pantry, swearing at things that have leaked, whatever the hell the black mouldy thing was that had fallen between units, and generally gurumpfed my way through the task of taming an area that others seem intent of destroying.

TheHoneyBadger · 01/09/2021 18:57

Ta da:
Washed hair (I know this shouldn't seem like an achievement but I hate washing my hair)
Work, work and more work
LOL
Cooked a semi proper dinner
Put rubbish and recycling out

Now knackered and have to be back in work by 8.30am so it would be really handy if I could get to sleep before 1.30am and sleep past 4.30am for once because living on so little sleep is not working for me.

Thanks for links Still - missions not happening today. Will try and catch up tomorrow as I should be home from work by 1 and then have a bit of time before a webinar I have to attend at 4. Part of me is going, nah, that's not gonna happen already.

flowerbus · 01/09/2021 22:43

I took the DC to soft play today, it was DS2’s first time going so I was a bit apprehensive that he’d struggle with the amount of people but he loved it😆. As it’s the first of September we celebrated by watching stick man with a cup of milky tea when we got back home. The weathers been very autumnal today as well.
hazel what sort of autumn decorations do you put up? 🍂
that 36 weeks I think so not long to go at all now😳. He’s really looking forward to it, we got his little backpack today and he’s been wearing it around the house🥰. I’ve just googled the lyrics to the muffin song, that definitely beats crazy frog🤣.
up I’m lucky with DH because as long as the name isn’t ridiculous he’s fine with anything, he’s never really had much interest in names but this time around we just can’t think of a name we both like even a little bit for a boy!. I hope your DH gets on board with the name you want🤞🏻. My little cousin loves raining tacos! how do they come up with these songs🙄
yup I like that idea, I always find that if I’ve got a problem chasing me stress then I’m unmotivated to do anything else. I might have to pinch that idea😉
ta da’s
-LOL
-decluttered entryway
-emptied and cleaned bathroom bin
-beds made
-children washed and dressed

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/09/2021 22:58

hills hope food shop went ok
Honey good luck for tom🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Flower I love stick man🥰

Survived walk/grumpy lil zoo
More laundry got done
Cooked meatballs
Did play chess and share a program she watches.guven ignores me mostly I will take that a huge win for today

Tired
Had sharp electric shock type pain in right thigh everytime put foot down.its at front from hip/groin down.am I right thinking still sciatic?

SingToTheSky · 02/09/2021 00:15

Sigh. I was almost asleep when DD1 came to say goodnight and that ended up as a half hour conversation about various anxiety related things. I really hope getting back into the school routine helps 😭

Lots to do tomorrow. Didn’t get everything on today’s list done but not too bad really.

ta da
✈️Living room rescue
✈️Bedroom rescue
✈️Put some laundry away
✈️Piano
✈️DS’ party
✈️Collected inhaler and asked about flu jabs (will book online)
✈️Sorted a lot of recycling
✈️Wrote weekly plan on board (somewhat late)
✈️Sorted meds and made sure DD1 took vitamins

SingToTheSky · 02/09/2021 00:58

Oh well. Couldn’t get to sleep yet so I ordered the household stuff I’ve been pondering (some more display shelving for DS’ Lego, and a coat hook to put at Cagletini height for her nursery bag and coat). Then I booked the flu jabs - at least I think I did, the site confused me and took me to entirely different pages and forms each time. I’ve paid for mine (I’m definitely not eligible for a free one) and then booked an appt on a different day for DH and the three Caglets. It did ask for DOB so presumably that’s fine, I’m just a bit paranoid that I’ve done it wrong 😳

Has anyone had little ones jabbed at Boots? Or do they need to get it done at the GP? 🤔

StillUpholding · 02/09/2021 01:05

I fell asleep just after putting DD to bed at 8, and now I am wide awake. Urgh. I’ll dump my ta Das:

✅ quick hallway tidy
✅ dishes done, benches and hob wiped
✅ 2 x LOLs
✅ made a start on emptying dressing room (sob!) by piling up all clothes/underwear that I haven’t a hope of fitting into for the foreseeable future. Plan is to store them away until the baby weight has gone and then sort them properly. Will have to be ruthless due to the reduced wardrobe space.
✅ bathroom cleaned
✅ bins emptied
✅ cursory flick round with a duster
✅ tidied DD’s room

Ta didnt: have another attempt at sorting the missing parcel. Great example of anti-procrastinating from your leader Grin

I’ve just realised it was my last week day off with DD before she starts school Sad. She has mostly played by herself today and other than a visit to a relative we haven’t done much and now I feel bad.

Sympathies with the pantry Hills. I’m forever beautifully organising our larder just for it to be a tip the next time I look. DH does do most of the cooking so I suppose I should just let him get on with it, but I do get irritated when I need to find something amongst the empty storage jars and multiple open bags of rice/pasta.

Hope you’ve managed to get back to sleep after your chat with DD Sing.

Bit of an extreme way to get DH to get with the program with the cooking Willow but glad he’s stepped up in your time of need and is keeping you fed.

I always thought sciatica was more down the back Zoo but I may well be wrong. Sounds painful regardless though! Definitely sounds like a win with Lil’ Zoo.

Good luck for your first day back Honey.

I do like wasting time by listening to productivity podcasts Yup.

Sing- I feel like my kids who are 5 and 6 years old, got a flu, nose shot last year in school. I was glad they both got it and we didnt have to deal with needles.

Honey- i hate washing my hair too.
Hope you get some sleep.

I have been busy helping my sister who is going through family problems. My dads operation is tomo, I had remembered the wrong date.
I cooked a second family dinner here.! I made pasta ragout. Ds adored it! Its quite a suprisingly healthy recipe. I will make it again. Dd had to eat toast with peanut butter instead as the chicken sausages were too spicy! ( they had sage seasoning in them 🤦‍♀️)
Kitchen looked a bomb site. Normally I would leave it - but today i made myself wash up 3 sinkfuls of stuff. And wiped surfaces. It was gone 8pm before i finished.
House looks like a bombsite as kids have played with all the puzzels and cubes while i cooked.
I have never heard of the taco song or the train one. I raise you....the boots and cat song- it has mini cats meowing in the background- my brain is playing in a loop in my head 😳 - why? I should be sleeping.

Big 🍒👋 waves everyone. Was going to say more....but song in my head has got louder....🤦‍♀️

Castlelough · 02/09/2021 03:42

Just finished my second bowl of cornflakes after lying awake with pregnancy insomnia/allday-allnight sickness/hunger....
Don't want to fall off the thread already Blush.
I didn't make a great job of babystep1 or the BBR today but I did declutter in the zone/mission and it has made a nice difference. Slowly gaining control again after a summer where I just was not able to function very well due to early pregnancy.

Is tomorrow still Errands day? I've a few lined up to do between the preschool run and the school run. Dd2's first day at preschool tomorrow! Smile
Thanks all for the welcomes amd nice to see an old comrade ED Smile.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/09/2021 06:17

Urgh.how can it be morning??
Dd2 woke me before 5 worst period pain ever mix anxietySad
Heat pads, ibuprofen and buscopan are barely touch it she cannot get comfortable, bless her

THATmamaofMANY · 02/09/2021 06:55

Why is so much stuff which is part of being female so bloody painful! Pretty sure men do not have anything like period pain / pregnancy pains / labour. Its like nature hates women.

Castle i didn't realise you were expecting too, so we have three incoming thread babies!? There must be a baby boom going on! Our little one is 9 weeks now!

Crappy nights sleep with THATbaby, although no leaking nappy! Up 2-3, then from 445. Yawn. ⏰ Before we started having nappy issues he had managed a couple of nights where he slept through which i had hoped would continue if i sorted the nappy issues! Apparently not! Two of our dc slept straight through continuously from 10 weeks, i don't think that'll be happening this time around!

Morning all, I can't stop for long as I need to go and get dressed for work, my DCs don't go back to school till next week so we are still in holiday mode and they are fast asleep.

Busy day yesterday.

Work
Stopped at tile warehouse on the way home to order kitchen tiles
Home, mooched a bit
Picked blackberried in garden
Got blackberry juice all over pale jeans
Scrubbed jeans and put them in to 1 x LOL
Put old clothes on and went to the allotment for half an hour (DCs had gone to hockey and swimming by themselves by then)
Home via Sainsburys
DH had brought home three boxes of kitchen stuff from storage at work so we spent about 90 minutes finding homes for it all and eating dinner
DCs home for their dinner
Hung out 1 x LOL and put on another
Watched Changing Rooms and Grand Designs
Bed.

SingToTheSky · 02/09/2021 08:10

Morning all. Tried going back to sleep for a bit but no luck, so I’d best get on with the day. DH has zoom therapy at 9.30 so I’ll try and get some bits done before that. Loads to do but now the big events of the summer are over I feel a bit calmer about it.

po3.1
❗️Breakfast and meds
❗️Arrange a few things via messenger
❗️Sort downloads on PC (at least until DH needs to use the desk)
