StillUpholding · 29/08/2021 15:23

Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Tbh i would be the same way too Goth

We have to negotiation ds having an actual shot flu vaccine as under 16s are all up the nose jobs. We were granted special permission last year Hmm but the doctors were given the choice of in the arm or no shot. Ds has a long history of nose bleeds and his answer was nope, nada, not up the nose. Ditto re lateral flows. Triggered nose bleeds every time and he opted out/refused consent.

today has been drama. People have been on full force since before i left for work. My opinion has been expressed. The one who doesn't cook actually took control of tea with a very sensible tea whilst i was out. So the one who can cook but won't was fed. Ds and I bought chicken nuggets on the way home and had those for tea.

God help anyone who gets in my way tomo. They have been adding things to the already far too busy to do list for this week, and i am taking no prisoners. I have little tolerance for those who are picking fights for the sake of it, nor those who are seeking woe is me kinda drama. I don't suffer fools let alone gladly. There is a reason i should not be working with the general public.

She’s 14 zoo
Would it be better for her to have the nasal spray then? (She doesn’t get nosebleeds really.)
I can’t actually remember which kids had the flu jab last year. I know DH did (eligible as my carer technically) and I didn’t (not eligible and then couldn’t book a paid one as all sold out quickly). I think two of the three Caglets were eligible by age. I have a feeling DD1 wasn’t so does an asthma dx mean she would be? I’ve added flu jabs onto the big scary mind map. I must be more organised about those this year. Is it too early to sort this stuff?! I am clueless.

I am clueless about asthma too. I know very little about it. We will pick up the pumps tomorrow - she’s got a blue and a brown one, she was shown how to use them but we will obv watch the videos too. She’s quite anxious about it all. I’m hoping it will help though - it will surely make her feel better overall if the inhalers work.

YupIHave · 31/08/2021 23:23

Over 100 messages and it's not even September yet.Shock

👋🏼 everyone. I took a social media /being online break over August but I am back. What did I miss?

SingToTheSky · 31/08/2021 23:27

Hi yup! 😀
And welcome back castle! Please don’t worry about replying to particular comments, name checking etc it’s really ok. Just drop in when you can, we are happy to have you!

Right. List time.

THATmamaofMANY · 31/08/2021 23:28

sing if shes 14 i don't think she will get it at school but maybe through gp due to medical needs?

My dc2 is in the oldest year group that get it at school (unless they change it!) Hes 12

Re nappies next size up baby dry are my next option to try (they are in the online asda basket!)

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 31/08/2021 23:31

Evening all! Welcome @Castlelough, good to have you aboard. You don't have to chat or do personals - we are all supposed to be housekeeping, but are easily distracted (which is why we're here!) Grin.

Today has been weird, I'm had significant leg pain so been a bit strung out on painkillers.

Ta da:
❤️ Got up, got washed, got dressed, got downstairs before 9 (this is a record since crutches)
🧡 Healthful breakfast etc
💛 Made sure DS3 was packed etc for his Big Adventure. Sent him up to town (on his own!) to buy a toothbrush
💚 Sent DD and DS3 into London for her to put him on a train to the seaside
💙 Phoned dentist to rearrange appointments (all up 3 flights of stairs, no lift. No chance!)
💜 Phoned hairdresser to rearrange hair appt from next Monday
🤎 Phoned Lakeland to point out airer scorching clothes won't do. Told it js because clothes need to be nearly dry before put on airer. Wondered why I paid £140 for something that crap. Lakeland are gifting me free stain remover. Whoop.
🖤 Phoned hospital re: cost of operation as consultant's secretary is billing insurance company despite my having paid in full. I want my money back on that basis!

Then I ran out of oomph. At the same time FIL rang and ate 90 mins of DH's day with "the stupid computer's broken" (it wasn't, stupid FIL had pressed buttons), complaints that fixing computers was DH's job (it isn't), it couldn't be that hard (it wasn't, if only he'd stop stabbing at buttons and clicking randomly on things), and perhaps he had disconnected his wifi by booking a flu jab yesterday (🤷).

Not fixed after 90 mins due to FIL repeatedly clicking things, "just helping out" etc. DH rang back at 6 and it took another hour to fix due to FIL's obfuscations and outright lies (why did you click that? I didn't. Dad, you've screen shared, I saw you do it. No I didn't, you're making that up).

So, a difficult day in the Willow House. But we got through it, DS3 is safely with my DM at the seaside and I am going to bed!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 31/08/2021 23:33

Ooh, Yup nice to see you, I was wondering if you were ok today. Do you feel refreshed by your SM break?

Redsquirrel5 · 31/08/2021 23:34

Oh dear sounds tough hills I hope tomorrow is better.

Goth have you looked into local small family concerns that might take her on and learn on the job instead?

That oh dear squidgy overflow isn’t good.

Zoo any chance of a photo then. Cut off if you don’t want to show your face or a back view?

Sitting room
Dusted all surface and nick backs.
Dusted the sections of the doors.
Dusted window sill
Vacuumed the flour.

YupIHave · 31/08/2021 23:47

Aww thanks IWill. Yeah, I've been fine. Painted bathroom, went on holiday and spent time with family. It was nice. I haven't dipped my toes into any other SM yet and not sure if I can be bothered going back tbh. I must admit though that I missed this area of MN. Nice to be back. Smile

Castlelough · 01/09/2021 00:30

Thanks for the lovely welcome back.
I had a little look at the Flylady website just there and am feeling motivated for tomorrow! Long may that last!
Delighted to see that the habit for September is the Before Bed Routine. This makes such a difference, and it is something I have abanadoned - cue panic in the mornings trying to find clean outfits for myself and three children! Perfect timing with the return of the school run!

Small to do list for tomorrow:

  • Babystep
  • Decluttering in front porch/Mission
  • Anti-procrastination: unpack suitcase from three weeks ago!
  • BBR: lay out clothes x me+three
flowerbus · 01/09/2021 00:55

Sorry I dropped off again we had such a busy few days. Sunday we went to my paternal grandparents home for a party for their joint birthday. There’s 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren (my 2) so the house was full of kids but it was so nice to see everyone again. Then on Monday our site did a bank holiday fun fair. DS1 went on one of them blow up bouncy slides on his own for the first time and I crapped my pants🤣. Today I’ve just been prepping for DS1 starting nursery next week I’ve made a few plans for things to do with DS2 now that’s it’s just the 2 of us, we only have about a month of it being just us 2 so I want to do some things with him.
Unfortunately the DC have discovered the crazy frog song and it is playing on repeat. It’s all I can think about🤣.
I’ve tried to catch up but there were 8 pages to get through so sorry if I missed anyone out😳
Thank you sing for the august (and my first) thread! You were brilliant at helping me keep to it🥰
Thank you up for this thread too! This might be the thread that minibus🚌 makes their entrance.
Omg zoo how bloody gorgeous is DD1!😮she looks absolutely stunning and so happy bless her🥰. Your other DC look beautiful too, very smart!. I’m glad the day went well and I hope DD1 is enjoying married life👰🏻. Your SIL sounds lovely as well❤️.
Happy belated birthday to your DS sing🎉 I’m sorry to hear about the struggles with DD1, how is she getting on with her inhalers?
willow oh gosh I don’t think I’d be able to be prepped that early! Before DC I was very much a Christmas Eve panic shopper, now it’s more like start of December panic shopper😂.
hope Irish seasons make more sense! Would it mean that may is the start of summer?
I’m sorry if I missed anyone!
ta da
First Christmas present bought🎁
Washed all newborn clothes and now folded ready for when minibus comes along
Planned nursery outfits for next week-they don’t need to wear a uniform but I’ve bought some joggers and jumpers/t shirts so there aren’t arguments about what he’s wearing.
Took DC to the river and got some things from the sweet shop.
DH and I are in panic mode as we have a name sorted for a girl but we used all our favourite names with DS’s so we have no boys names😩

HazelNuttyElf · 01/09/2021 06:27

Good to see you back yup I really haven't been on fb for almost 2 years now, well not too just scroll anyway. I noticed it was constant and I wasn't getting anything done like I should have.

Welcome back castle I love my bedtime routine for getting my clothes out for the next morning. I usually get my lunch ready then too, but my container I need for tomorrow is in the DW, so I'll have to make it in the morning 🥺
I am trying to get back into the routine of yoga every night. I did good all last week, but haven't done any yet this week. I'm too tired now, it's late and I have an early start tomorrow.

Sing sorry to hear that your DD has asthma. I have it, allergy related, and it can be scary to not be able to breathe. She should be able to manage okay though. I'm to the point that I don't have to do the daily inhaler, but I do still have my emergency inhaler, if needed. I haven't had to use it in a few months.

Ta Das:
🍁 Autumn decorations are mostly up! I do need to move a few things around and get a bigger wreath for my door
🌻 3 LOLs, including my sheets, remade the bed earlier too
🍁 Made jalapeño poppers with DD to have with dinner (she's been wanting them, which is weird, because she normally doesn't like them and definitely can't handle any heat)
🌻 Went to the store to return a few things, tried bras but will need to return them also
🍁 Ordered a few things for ILs anniversary

There may have been more, but I'm dozing off (it's almost 11:30pm here
🍒👋 to everyone

ExtremelyDisorganised · 01/09/2021 07:50

THATmamaofMANY · 01/09/2021 08:16

Welcome back castle i can't remember who i was when you were last here Grin

Also welcome back yup!

Flower how many weeks are you now? Is ds looking forward to nursery? I take your crazy frog torture and raise you with .... the muffin song, which is about a muffin who seems to have had enough of life Hmm

Hazel wish i had autumn decs! Yesterday i put winter spice zoflora in the mop. Made the house smell like christmas. Dc2 came in and said "what is that disgusting smell?!" Rude.

Willow i don't think i could cope with your fil

StillUpholding · 01/09/2021 08:26

Welcome Castle! And welcome back Yup.

That’s a shame about DD’s course Goth. I’d have been pretty stressed out by that too bless her.

I think DD will get the flu jab due to the asthma Sing. I’m invited every year and mine is pretty mild, although I get mine through work.

I’m struggling with names too Flower. I have my heart set on one name and can’t imagine using another, but DH isn’t on board yet Still got a while to decide and I’m just going to keep at him until he gets used to it Grin

Jalapeño poppers sound interesting Hazel!

So, today we move into zone 1 and the mission is to declutter the entrance. I was feeling a little smug as I did that on Monday, but there’s a couple of hotspots building up again already…

Anti-procrastination day today, I need to chase a parcel that hasn’t arrived. And as Castle says, September’s habit is before bed routine. I definitely need to get back into this habit and stop just crawling into bed from DD’s bedroom floor!

flight plan

To do today:
🖊 2 x LOLs
🖊 dishes
🖊 chase missing parcel and sort a return
🖊 upstairs bleurgh
🖊 sort hallway
🖊 visit relative

Oh god my hall is AWFUL Shock

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2021 08:44

Ds gets called up by the gp for his. All the flu vaccines for asthma here are done by invitation at the GP surgery and are often done in a very very organised set of sat mornings. Although ds got his done by the nurse because we ASKED for jab not nose spray vaccine.
I would suggest some sort of chart or way of tracking the inhaler has been taken because it is easy to forget when the new novalty wears off and those things need to be taken regularly.
Also if those meds don't suit/work - DO go back and talk to them. I can't have the brown and blue ones (ironincally they sat my asthma off) but there is others purple, orange, other brown ones. HOWEVER, unless there is a strong immediate reaction give the med at least a month. They can have a settling in period. It took 2 weeks and a forgotten dose or 3 for me to really see the positive effect my new asthma med was having.4 to prove that an undesired side effect wasnt happening.

I need to get going. I slept horribly last night. Bare shoulders. Got very cold and it woke me several times (not enough for me to think to put a t-shirt style night top on rather that a v-top style on) but enough for me to feel grotty this morning.

To do:
List of questions for GP appointment later
ikea quick and early
sort the damn food shelves so that the people can see what they look for cos other wise it does not exist
bread dough to rise
shopping list for later
tame the kitchen which is currently out of control.
lots of other things, but meh to listing them

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/09/2021 09:08

sing I may also add on the asthma front a spacer can help.dd1 still uses one when she's very poorly as it ensures meds end up in lungs, not back of the throat which is easy to do if breathe in too quickly(which is causing problems as they're try convince her powders are best way forward, not aerosol and she just does not get on with them AT ALL)

TADA

Wash in
Wash up(I really need break habit leaving the dishes, not a great first sight in the morning!)
Wipe surfaces

Discover source sticky chess piecesluckily pieces are plastic,so washed them and wiped the board
Wake everyone
Make sure everyone eats
Inform all we are walking to the forest today
Lil zoo no longer walks anywhere due to dd1 having a car and is SO DELIGHTED he exit from living room to dress almost pulled door of hinges and I heard every excited step on the stairs......

StillUpholding · 01/09/2021 09:17

Flowers and That and I raise you all ‘Raining Tacos’ that Alexa has been belting out for the last 20 minutes. No idea where DD heard it but I will hunt down the culprit.

I agree with a spacer Zoo. Our surgery seem to recommend them to everyone now. I got one last winter (mine is seasonal so I start taking inhalers from autumn) and it does make it much easier.

Attempted to sort the parcel. Live chat not working and phone line just keeps cutting out. So that went well Hmm

OP posts:
GoingGoingGoth · 01/09/2021 09:37

Squirrel that’s an option we’re looking at. There is a HNC course a bit further out (if they run it) but they want biology, so it looks like she’s going to be doing it the long way round. She’s so fed up with school and 2 exam years hit by Covid hasn’t helped.

On the plus side yesterday the plumber came and replaced our broken mixer bath

Right, time to tackle the hall

THATmamaofMANY · 01/09/2021 09:42

Oh god mine listen to that one too up! Also 'i like trains' Hmm

SingToTheSky · 01/09/2021 09:53

Morning all. That’s interesting about the spacer, DD1 was offered one but said no as she doesn’t want to have to use it in school :( mind you she also said they don’t let people use inhalers in class anyway Hmm. Maybe she could have one to use at home, I think the preventer inhaler is meant to be used morning and night so would do that at home. I associate the spacers with young kids as both Caglets had to use them after chest infections! I remember having to hold the mouthpiece on DS and singing at him to try and calm him 🤣

Only recently woke up 😳 as I stupidly stayed up till nearly 2 faffing about online. Was being vaguely productive though trying to come up with more display solutions for DS’ Lego in his tiny bedroom! Also ordered a couple of Christmas presents that were finally available/cheaper.

po3.1
❗️Meds, and breakfast for me and Cagletini - she slept late too
❗️Discuss today’s plan with DH and show him the to do lists I wrote
❗️I’m so tired I can’t even decide what to write for the third thing! Maybe make a plan for tomorrow with DH as well?!

😴😴😴

StillUpholding · 01/09/2021 10:06

They are much smaller than the ones I remember Sing. Sounds like productive faffing.

Will remember to try and avoid I Like Trains That Grin
