Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Ps whens everyone back to school?some schools return Thursday here.mine is monday

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/08/2021 08:16

ds goes back Monday. I hope. If not we are going to have a few issues. Well he is. He has all of his summer holiday work to do between now and then.

Sorry about the horrific night's sleep zoo what does lilzoo do at dd's house when she cant sleep?

I went to bed with the grand plan of getting up early. Apparently i just needed all the sleep so am barely coming around now. The alarm did go off at 6am but i reset it. Hmm

Most move though as need to wash the after sun out of my hair...

THATmamaofMANY · 31/08/2021 09:23

Mine are back monday (primary) and tuesday (secondary)

I think the leaking nappy issue may be down to the 0-3 month vests being a bit snug. Will try in next size tonight and hopefully not end up with a soggy baby!

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/08/2021 09:29

At DD she doesn't disturb anyone hills

SingToTheSky · 31/08/2021 11:09

Nursery back next Tuesday, DD1 goes back in that day but I think it’s just briefly for a covid test, then back properly Wednesday. Will start DS on home ed that day too.

I feel a bit crappy this morning. At least DD1 actually stayed downstairs with the others though. She still wanted to stay with one of us. I am at a loss as to how to handle it. Part of me wants to be stricter about boundaries and making it clear how it affects DH and I (less sleep, less couple time etc) but I think she will then just panic that she will make us split up or something and then stop talking to us at all. Aaargh. It’s obvious how much more anxious she is lately, she’s not eating as well, she sometimes rocks back and forth (not in the happy excited way that DS does), she’s so run down.

Not sure I can be arsed with a power of three yet. So far I’ve done more activity sheets with Cagletini and printed some others.

StillUpholding · 31/08/2021 11:17

Just swooping in with the links…

launch pad

Last day in zone 5 apparently, before we hit zone 1 tomorrow. Today’s mission is to get rid of any rubbish including sofa diving. Happy planning day!

I’ll catch up later 🍒 👋

I did my po3 and then have just spent ages watching a webinar on Ofsted's Research Review into my subject area and taking a ton of notes on recommendations and implications for inspections. I'm not even sure why I did it Confused - have emailed my department offering to type up and share my notes or do a summary of findings but they'll probably just be like wtf did she do that for.

Now just feel knackered.

I may just pour myself a bath and focus on getting myself physically ready for going back to work tomorrow eg. washing my greasy mop and doing a bit of self care and working out what fits I'm going to wear.

SingToTheSky · 31/08/2021 13:18

Ha. I can’t do the mission. We don’t have a sofa 🤣

Ugh I feel all anxious and stressy.

po3.1
❗️Take beta blockers/painkillers and have some food and drink
❗️Some tutoring admin - lesson times etc
❗️Move laundry on

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/08/2021 13:25

Sing* is she fretting for school return?it's a tough line between support and reliance that I don't balance too well I fear.dd2 really cannot cope waking in panic and her coping strategies are questionable at nightbut mostly manages herself in the day ...

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/08/2021 13:25

Shop done in two different places due to lack fruit in one, lack bread in the other
3rd LOL on

I am FLAGGING

HazelNuttyElf · 31/08/2021 14:50

I've had a great start to my day so far.. started getting my coffee going, then realised I didn't have a mug underneath to pour into 🤦‍♀️ at least this time I caught it before it actually started pouring any out, unlike 2 weeks ago when it filled up the overspill tray before I realised.
It's almost 8am here, been awake half an hour and I'm ready to go back to bed 😴

I won't though. I'm excited to start putting my autumn decorations up today and change out some of the plug in wallflower scents that I have around the house. I also have LOLs to do too.

HazelNuttyElf · 31/08/2021 14:57

Last night when I got home from work, I did clean up the kitchen right away. I had DS help me rotate the DW, since that wasn't done when the DC got home from school.
I washed up my handwash dishes, dried them and put them away.
I then made omlettes for dinner and cleaned up the kitchen again afterwards.
I also took the rubbish out to the wheelie bin and cleaned the kitchen rubbish bin before putting a new bag in there.
I then sat on the couch and watched the karate kid on Netflix. I still love that movie 😍

DD wants to go shopping today, she only has a half day (everyday, since she is close to graduating, and graduating early in December instead of May). I'm still not sure I want to, it depends on what I get done.

SingToTheSky · 31/08/2021 15:04

I’m not sure really zoo I know it is partly that - she knows she’s better off in school than in home ed, but she’s dreading the return. But it may also be the change of routine that’s thrown her and going back may help - more tired from early starts and more dance/PE etc. No clue what to do about the sleep and eating though. Might just have to focus on the other stuff (making sure she’s keeping up with school work and doing some extra as we agreed especially for maths and science, and doing lots of art in the evenings both for relaxation and technique) and hope that somehow that all makes her tired enough to sleep 😳

Oops hazel that is the epitome of “I haven’t had my caffeine yet” 😬🤦🏻‍♀️

po3.2
❗️Find and print some stuff for today’s/Thursday’s maths lessons
❗️Report income/expenses on UC site
❗️Write priority to do list for the start of the month

Mc3209 · 31/08/2021 15:58

Honey sounds like those notes of yours will come in useful.
Sing 💐
That I still get a twitchy eye when someone says 'leaky overnight nappy'. It took me almost 9 months to find the ones that fit him best and don't leak overnight (pampers baby dry size up). I even tried reusables (were ok, but goodness me the hassle!). Fingers crossed the vest solution works for you.

💥home bleugh done
💥Endless LOLs
💥Sofa dive done

Still to do:

  • fold dry laundry. It's like a never ending carousel.
Stilllivinginazoo · 31/08/2021 16:21

sing DD has started drawing again.she had stopped as felt she couldn't "compete" with lil zoo whilst she was here.i do find it helps her.she does magic painting books too

SingToTheSky · 31/08/2021 16:43

I’m hoping it’ll help her zoo she is doing art GCSE anyway and the teacher mentioned on parents evening about practicing still life, different media etc. I set limits on her phone using the downtime feature so I hope the art will be a good screen free thing to do once she’s off that.

po3.3
❗️Phone lazer place
❗️Maths lesson
❗️Sort laundry

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/08/2021 17:28

I wish I could convince DD to more screen free time, but at 17 I feel it's not really appropriate to demand it,merely advise which is met the more drama than it's worth!
That said, she's correctly upstairs painting a canvas for first time-apparently will be a simple design ,probably abstract, then go add these super cool weird melting eyes she's drawn over it once it's dry

Tada
More laundry
Clear and swept living room floor
Bag up bins and recycling and put into big bins outside

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/08/2021 17:50

Finally got the pics of the cake to load

Sooo lovely zoo 😍

I managed to make a scarily full mind map of all the crap that needs sorting soon. Then did maths, followed by a bit of piano. Also booked the game for tomorrow and a decent number can make it yay

On less good news, DD1 had her appt and against all my expectations they said she is asthmatic. Bugger. 😣

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/08/2021 20:36

How old is she again sing?(just asking as D's gets flu jab as a nose spray, and has done for couple of years despite not being severely asthmatic)

Castlelough · 31/08/2021 20:52

Hello, I'm going to try joining you for September. I've been on the Flylady threads before but I always fall behind with replying with personal messages and eventually drop out so this time I'm going to just try to keep up with the links and babysteps! Thanks for having me!

TheHoneyBadger · 31/08/2021 20:58

I was really lucky with ds that cheap tesco nappies fitted him fine and never really had problems except for extreme rare up their back poo explosions Envy

Thanks Mc - I just hope I haven't put anyone's nose out of joint by taking initiative - there are some funny dynamics at play and strange misunderstandings seem to arise relatively easily. I've only been in the department for a year and a pretty weird year at that so I will do my best to shelve my paranoia and start again with an open mind. Yes to the never ending carousel of laundry and well done on the home bleurgh.

Not a very productive day housework wise here but good for work prep. Hoping to manage to get an early night and actually get some decent sleep.

GoingGoingGoth · 31/08/2021 21:07

Flying went out the window this afternoon when all the stress of subject choices and her course being cancelled meant DD had a full blown anxiety attack in the city.

Being in S6 meant she had the option of doing 2 afternoons a week at college. She made 3 choices and got her 1st one, however it then got cancelled 2 weeks into term and her other choices are full.
So instead of doing horticulture down the road at the local campus they want her to do TV production in the city at a bigger campus. She was sent in today, she didn’t know the tutor name or the room number. She walked up to the main building and fell apart

Luckily it’s only a 15 minute drive in. And she was so apologetic! I keep telling her it’s not her fault. I can’t see the point of her putting herself through this for a course she has no interest in.
