StillUpholding · 29/08/2021 15:23

Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Well my ta didn’t list is probably longer than my ta Das today, but I don’t feel too bad. I stripped and remade the bed and did a bit of boudoir dusting, and the odd bit of tidying and spot cleaning here and there. I sorted out the financial stuff, hid some Christmas gifts that arrived, and phoned a couple of relatives for a catch up. Did some crafts and poured over the newly delivered Smyths catalogue with DD after the school run.

The home bleurgh did not happen but I now have some unexpected free time waiting on the PCR result so will get it done tomorrow.

The midwife appointment went fine thanks Dancing. Did you manage to speak to the teacher? Glad she is still happy to go in.

Fingers crossed he’s through the worst of it then Red. Hope your headache has eased.

I’ve spotted a read-along thread starting on the Christmas board Hope so will try and save mine for then.

I’m going to have to do a big scrub ready for our painter coming in a few weeks Fiddle. I can’t be bothered with it all but I know I’ll be so pleased when it’s done. Might need to steal some of your motivation!

I'm getting hungry reading about chicken soup! Glad ds is doing okay Red.

merryhouse · 22/09/2021 22:05

Ha, my H came in the other day carrying one of his shirts and mentioned the weird fold line along the - is it the placket? no, Mr Google thinks not - the bit where the buttons are. It folds itself back against the buttons stitching during the wash and doesn't iron out properly.

He seriously asked whether I was deliberately ironing it in...

EssentiallyDisorganised · 22/09/2021 22:18

I was on a thread a few weeks ago about the Nigel Slater book, they were talking about doing a read-along. My mum bought me it for Christmas when it came out about three years ago and I love it. Nigel has also done a series of podcasts reading from it which I love too. Oh and he's got a new book coming out which will be on my Christmas list.

We are in the middle of LFT/PCR/+contact confusion too. DD was notified of a positive contact on Sunday so we sent for a home PCR the result still hasn't come back, in the meantime she's been a bit coldy but not typical Covid symptoms, she says virtually the whole year group has got a cold but everyone is - by LFT (including her). Hoping it will come back overnight.

Red - hope DS1 makes a speedy recovery, my mum says she still worries about us, parenthood really is a lifetime commitment.

Willow - I am passing you the shovel and clearing space on the patio.

Dancing - sorry your DD has encountered such nasty behaviour at school.

Fiddle - you are doing really well.

I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the amout of emails coming from both DCs schools, I thought this would all ease off as they get older but it seems not, there seem to be at least two messages requiring attention every day, plus I seem to have quite a list of stuff for DS's uni application (booking open days, helping hime with his personal statement etc). Then no end of other appointments (flu jabs, opticians, vet, chimney sweep, log delivery, tiler) plus thinking about half term and Christmas.

However - on Sunday I completely decluttered both our fridge-freezers (long overdue in the case of the freezers). It has made such a difference! No more random peas and blackberries, no more bags with one oven chip, no more drawers that won't shut.

Redsquirrel5 · 23/09/2021 01:08

The Chicken soup I make is in the Covent Garden Book of Soups.

BBC Plum Chutney is a hit. There was a bit leftover so we had it with pork last night and DH had some with cheese for lunch.

I haven’t seen the Nigel Slater book. I have Delia Smith Christmas book.

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/09/2021 01:14

ds has been switched by aliens.
his room is immaculate and he is doing laundry.

I have only just got back. it has been a long day. need the sleeps.

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/09/2021 01:15

Forgot to pick the damn passport up. Also forgot to pick up my meds too. so yeah. still feel like crap

HazelNuttyElf · 23/09/2021 05:07

willow I would seriously be considering a hotel room.. I hope all goes well with your foot.
hills that reminds me, I still need to get all of my family our passports. I'll get mine and DDs online (UK), and DH, DS and DD US passports. That way, DD will have both before she turns 18. I'll do the same for DS. But right now, all of ours have expired.
Red chicken soup sounds good. I got a white chicken chili in the slow cooker this morning, it was nice to come home to dinner cooked
👋 that no need to sneak in, it's always good to see you
merry I would start ironing in a diagonal crease all across his shirts, every.single.one of them, then tell him that was intentional! 😂 I really wouldn't, but then again, my DH would snag all his clothes out of the ironing pile so I wouldn't iron them. We do fold everything when they come out of the dryer though. I haven't been able to iron for months.

Ta Das:
Tuesday
🌻 Baked cake
🌻 Made berry filling
🌻 made frosting
🌻 washed sheets & multiple LOLs
🌻 went grocery shopping
🌻 had wheels rotated and balanced on jeep
🌻 put gel on nails
🌻 Skyped mum
🌻 helped DH do oil change on jeep
🌻 helped DH clean a loader at work
🌻 DH discovered a Crack in the radiator on the jeep, it's been ordered, but it won't arrive until after I leave for our trip. The leak isn't bad right now and I have antifreeze in the jeep

I'm really starting to get annoyed at DH blowing off my jeep. He doesn't like it, mostly because he doesn't like to drive it, but that's not the point. I'll ask him something about it, something I've noticed that doesn't seem right, and it's almost like he doesn't care. He can fix it, so I ask him. I don't want to pay someone hundreds of dollars to do something DH can do for free! He doesn't think about me being stranded or broken down anywhere, or having the possibility of the "death wobble" which is one thing that can go very wrong with a jeep.

Anyway, I have a short list of ta das for today
Wednesday
❤ got dinner in slow cooker
❤ worked 10 hrs
❤ tried to donate stuff from back of jeep, failed, they aren't accepting donations today
❤ baked cupcakes
❤ made one frosting (one more to make tomorrow)
❤ sat down!

Lots to do tomorrow, we're heading out of town. I still need to find wrapping paper, and it seems nowhere has any 😱

Shower time, then bed. I'm exhausted 😩 😪
🍒👋 to everyone

SingToTheSky · 23/09/2021 07:20

Morning Fledglings.

Bit nervous this morning. Interview at 9.30! Lots to do - I was so tired last night that I decided going to bed was the priority, and I was asleep by about 10 I think?! But kept waking up from 4 with anxiety dreams about oversleeping etc. 🙄

I scribbled a list before sleeping of all the things I need to do, and I’ve woken up before my 7.30 alarm, so may as well get started.

po3.1
❗️Meds, breakfast
❗️Attempt to sort rats nest of hair
❗️Print covering letter and CV to read over

Castlelough · 23/09/2021 08:02

Good morning! How is it Thursday already? My flying has been minimal so far this week but I'm looking forward to a quieter morning where I will hopefully get a bit done, then hope to take dcs to the library and do an airport pick up in the afternoon...

To Do:
Walk the dog
Weekly Home Blessing
Reboot laundry
Tidy kitchen
Declutter in the boudoir x15mins

SingToTheSky · 23/09/2021 08:08

Done that.

po3.2
❗️Do a few rounds of Colour Code with Cagletini (stroppy this morning so it’s bribery for getting dressed)
❗️Read job spec again and the mind map I made for previous interview (it’s virtually the same role)
❗️Clear desk

halfhope · 23/09/2021 08:20

Ooh good luck sing ☘️. Hello Castlelough I don't think I've said hi before. You've reminded me of the home blessing. Also I HAVE to work out today.

halfhope · 23/09/2021 08:23

Hazelnutty I'm intrigued by the jeep death wobble. I don't drive so it's a mystery to me 😁. Hills don't worry - the aliens will realise their mistake and return him. Enjoy the replacement version while you can. 👽

halfhope · 23/09/2021 08:24

Happy Birthday Chic - 🥐🥐🎂🎂🎉🎁

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 23/09/2021 08:36

Hmmph! Off to a good start, washed (incl hair) dressed and at the GP surgery for 8. Only to find my appointment was yesterday. Frustrating as I've phoned half a dozen times to check, only to get their automatic cut-off 'We're busy and won't take your call!' New appt set for mid October. Breakfasted now and ready to restart the day.
Hope everyone has a productive, satisfying day.

SingToTheSky · 23/09/2021 08:44

po3.3
❗️Wake DS so he’s not waking up halfway and interrupting (DH also has therapy on zoom at 9.30 so he will use DD1’s room!) - he can watch telly instead 🤣
❗️Get dressed and tidy self up - earrings, nails, teeth etc
❗️Zoom background rescue

SingToTheSky · 23/09/2021 09:10

po3.4 for the final 15-20mins… 😬😬😬
❗️Check zoom camera angle etc
❗️Read specific feedback from last interview
❗️Look on charity website again

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 23/09/2021 10:06

Hope the interview is going well Sing!

Fiddle I hate it when that happens, but if you couldn't check the appointment the blame lies at least partially with them! At least you are up and running now.

Chic happiest of happy birthdays! 🥳🥳

Castle sounds like a good plan for the day.

Hills enjoy the Alien DS while you can! Could you perhaps bargain with them to leave him for the duration of A levels?👽 👽

Hope hope you get your workout in today.
Hazel that's a long list! I'm sorry your DH won't help with your Jeep, death wobble sounds terrifying. Hope you have a lovely weekend - are you going away for a particular reason? Apols if you've said already.

Red, ED, Dancing, Hazel thank you for support on Not Doing Much. Space on patio may be needed as DH went off this morning on the topic of "no-one tidies up round here" then got grumpy when I pointed out the coke bottle on the table was his. It is unreasonable, apparently, to expect him to deal with that when he didn't get to sit down and have an evening until 9.30 last night. I buttoned my lip, but am eyeing up that nice clear patio space ED created.

Ta da:
❤️ Fiendish Hellwire removed from foot. No local anaesthetic, he just grabbed, twisted and pulled. He is lucky I wasn't sick on him. However, it's gone and tonight I can have a bath!
🧡 Booked a phone call with health insurer - they have ten minutes of their calling window left, then I'm getting on with my day.

To do
👽 Have a wash (including poorly foot!!) and get dressed
👽 Ring the hairdresser and see if I can get colour done with my haircut in two weeks
👽 Make a to do list
👽 Not hit DH with a shovel.

Telephone call has now missed it's moment and I'm getting on with my day.

SingToTheSky · 23/09/2021 10:07

Ugh. Well I don’t think that went very well. The example questions threw me, I need to prepare better for those. They’re interviewing today and tomorrow so I guess there will be a lot of competition! I should find out by tomorrow afternoon.

Time to relax, or try to!

halfhope · 23/09/2021 10:29

I was thrown in a meeting the other day as was asked to present a document when I didn't think I'd have to sing. Went around cringing afterwards. But what's done is done - grist to the mill. What's not done is that ruddy workout 😬

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 23/09/2021 10:39

OK. This is how my life goes.

Persuaded dad he needed a new kitchen carpet - £800. Went through hell to get it done. It's been down about six weeks.

Reached into the oven to take out a hot tray. Not enough insulation from the towel i was using. Burnt my hand, dropped the tray.

Onto the new carpet. Stain resist. SYNTHETIC. Now bearing a tray-shaped melt.

I'm ready to die now. Shit happens but I've had my fill.

He has insurance, I think, if I can't make it right. God help me.

THATmamaofMANY · 23/09/2021 10:58

Trying to catch up on the thread. You have all been busy. Sorry for all those needing tests and isolation.

Life is so fast and full on atm. Im hitting over 15,000 steps a day and still not doing what i need to do!

Toddler is grumpy
Baby is grumpy

Joys

halfhope · 23/09/2021 11:03

that and fiddle sounds like you're both have hard days and hectic times. I'd be so gutted too fiddle over the carpet

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/09/2021 11:36

Going to be honest, that is exactly why i will never have carpet in the kitchen. I am a very messy baker and being able to fling a mop about not worry about dropped hot things is golden.

Now i was watching on fb a video where they took some scrap of a carpet and cut out a damaged section and replace it (using tape or something to stabilise it. It might be possible to get it repaired? Especially if the carpet is not that long gone down?

Teen said that he was sick of living in a really messy house and then he realise he could do something about some of it - especially his room. So he decided he would. Which is fair play to him.

slept in this morning because needed it. Still in the middle of a flare and still struggling and could have slept longer if the door bell hadn't been rung.

Ta da
find out the stomach flu one just had stomach flu not the covids like he had convinced himself (pcr done and results back)
Call the stomach flu one an idiot for drinking the milk that is on the turn... and warn him about giving himself food poisoning.
Take ds' washing out of the machine and throw what can go into the dryer with the lot from my load and run dryer
eat breakfast and drink first cup of coffee
Hand ds a lump of fruit loaf - who walked off clutching the leftover runout icing with a smile on his face
discuss equinox celebrations which the one with stomach flu missed. Equinox celebrations have been approved if they come in the form of good food Grin

About to run a bath and then get up for the day. Slow lazy start to the day but was needed.

StillUpholding · 23/09/2021 11:54

PCR done. I should really make a start on flying but instead I’ve discovered Ten Things I Hate About You on Disney+ and I’m reliving my teens.

Got my fingers crossed for you Sing!

Hope grumpy DC become less grumpy soon That.

Oh I did the same to my DM’s carpet years ago Fiddle. Nightmare! Hope your hand is ok.

My to do list is similar to yours Castle.

Errand day today. Delegating any that pop up to DH. Mission is to change and make our beds all nicely. launchpad
