StillUpholding · 29/08/2021 15:23

Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Thanks Dancing. Enjoyed tea at 4:38am😁

He was a poorly baby only weighed 14lb at 1yr old. Visited paediatrician until 18mths due to crap treatment in labour and not breathing when born. Thank God there was no brain damage.

halfhope · 22/09/2021 07:49

red your poor little lamb. I don't think you ever stop worrying about kids even when they've grown. What are you doing having tea at a quarter to five?!!

Morning all. ☕🥐 I'm trying to remember what day it is. Ah yes Wednesday. Antiprocrastination day. I need to Hoover the place today. I can't believe it's almost October!

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/09/2021 08:01

Shhhh lalalalalalalala

Nothing like a doorbell that decides it is stuck and needs to sing the song of its people before 7am. Hmm

Tired, hurting, caught in a flare with a to do list that HAS to be done and running out of time to do it.

1 down with stomach flu. Cross contamination protocols in full swing. But it is going to make tea/food choices interesting. They are not going to want what was prepped. Will have to figure that out later.

But first must:

  • get dressed and ready for work
  • get the herbs out of the dehydrator and into jars for conditioning
  • ice the cinamon buns made yesterday
  • Move the bread goods out of the way of the cooker repairman
  • make sure teenager is alive
  • write shopping list and pick up passport application to actually get it sent off today MUST remember this
  • pick up something that can be eaten at my desk as no lunch cover today and not sure if i can lock up the building to pop out to grab it.
  • water plants
  • throw clothes into dryer/hang up

Shit that list is longer than an hour's worth. I'd better get hustling!!

Also to do - find the strong painkillers and TAKE THEM.

SingToTheSky · 22/09/2021 08:43

Morning all.

Wow red that’s a lot to have dealt with as a new mum and when he was older too 💐

Today’s episode is brought to you by the letter AAAAAARGH.

I. Hurt. Everywhere.

po3.1
❗️Breakfast and painkillers
❗️Switch PC on and open files ready to screen share (VERY glad I prepped last night)
❗️Get dressed and try to make self less scruffy

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 22/09/2021 09:03

Sorry to hear about DS1, Red, sending healing thoughts. Hope DH's test comes back negative and you are ok too.

Hills sorry to hear about stomach flu and domestic complications therefrom. Hope you found enough painkillers.

Dancing definitely nip that kind of behaviour towards your DC in the bud! I second asking for a phone call after school - I would find that less emotional.

Things very difficult with DH this morning - his job has ramped up so he is very, very busy and the house must take second place. He wants me to help and take a few jobs back, but on his terms and only tells me what those terms are when I get it wrong. Any attempt to suggest that I've been running a house in the teeth of his inability to help for 25 years is met with "but it's better now" and "we don't need to bring that up again, I just need you to do better now". Honestly, part of me wants to visit the total lack of help back on him and leave parcel packing on the hob and letters on the table and all the mugs in the living room. I have been The Adult for a quarter of a century and I feel it's time to repay the favour, petty though that is. Argh. Am bad person.

halfhope · 22/09/2021 09:21

Not bad person willow - overwhelmed person. Family conference on 'how we all need to help' - DH and DC together?

I'm handing out tummy friendly painkillers and liberally spraying the thread with antiviral and antibacterial disinfectant with a nice fragrance. Wash your hands and wear a mask before leaving and entering thread.

Sing 💐

halfhope · 22/09/2021 09:22

Ditto Hills 💐. The horror of tummy flu 😱

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 22/09/2021 09:38

Loving the word 'antiprocrastination hasn't helped yet - I should be at home doing accounts but instead, I'm in Costa enjoying latte.
Dad's housework is done, and mine awaits. But I'm optimistic.

SingToTheSky · 22/09/2021 10:54

You’ve done stuff already today fiddle I’d say the latte was well deserved!

My lesson went well, not done anything since though.

SingToTheSky · 22/09/2021 11:02

And I agree willow you are absolutely not a bad person. It sounds very frustrating - kind of like he’s mansplaining what you’ve HAD TO become an expert in. 😡

Do only what you are truly capable of, physically AND mentally. He will have to cope and the kids will have to pitch in more (which DH can organise).

po3.2
❗️Bit of work with DS, he’s done some stuff with DH already (must get him to put his laundry on too)
❗️Find out if DS’ friend is coming round and if so, are we doing geography and/or maths
❗️Eat something and relax while DS has a break

Redsquirrel5 · 22/09/2021 11:11

Sorry I was a bit doom and gloom last night I was feeling very, very anxious. Usually if he is ill one of us stays with him or tell he can come here. Also for a long time he had one or two lodgers so someone there for him. Despite his ill health he was such a lovely child and I am surprised he hasn’t had someone snap him up. He had a girl he was keen on in his twenties but I think she preferred him as a friend.

He has been building up his fitness in the past 5 years and does a lot of Fell walking and is part way through a Leader’s course. Hopefully it will stand him in good stead. I have had a headache since yesterday. I do get migraine but wonder did anyone start with a headache?

Fiddle you deserve it after all you have done for your dad.

halfhope · 22/09/2021 12:00

Apparently a headache is common red. I'd get a PCR.

StillUpholding · 22/09/2021 12:18

Hope DS1 is doing ok Red. We’ve had a close contact incident here so my planned chilled morning has turned into LFTs (all negative), arranging PCRs, contacting the school (still happy to have her), plus a midwife appointment that was ok to go ahead. This is all wearing so thin now isn’t it. I’m not worried about us, it’s just inconvenient, but worried for the original contact as she has underlying conditions.

Hope anyone who has “cleaned the oven” on their ta da list does not have to flounce to the naughty corner at all.

Did you get the passport sorted Hills? That is exactly the sort of thing I massively procrastinate over.

Hope DD was ok going into school today Dancing, poor thing. At least something has been done with the girl. Hope the teacher is helpful when you speak to her.

Willow I have to admit I’d definitely be tempted to give DH a little taste of what you’ve dealt with. DH made a throw away comment about how his shirt wasn’t very well ironed at the weekend and he thinks I’m joking when I say I won’t be ironing anything if his any more. He might realise I’m serious come this weekend Grin. Hope you’re continuing to be in the mend. Hope DD has a better time at school now her meds are sorted again.

You’re doing great with your double flying Fiddle.

Hazel I can’t believe they charge that much extra for dogs Shock.

Right, I’m going to allow myself half an hour with a cuppa and then I need to:
👎 home bleurgh
👎 LOL
👎 bit of zone 4 stuff
👎 check bank account, do same savings transfers etc as I’ve ordered some more xmas things. Treated myself to that Nigel slater Christmas book I’ve seen mentioned on MN. I’m excited for its arrival!

As well as anti procrastination FlyLady suggests we should dust our boudoirs today. I can manage that I think.

halfhope · 22/09/2021 12:20

The Nigel Slater book is ❤️ sing.

halfhope · 22/09/2021 12:22

Sorry, I mean stillupholding. Lovely book. Must get it out for a calming read myself.

SingToTheSky · 22/09/2021 13:04

Worth testing as headache is a common symptom. 💐

DS has got on with work and put his washing on. Friend is coming in half an hour.

Had some good news as well - my Wednesday zoom pupil is going to be having two lessons a week from
November 😀 and I am now going to be doing invoices which all feels very official and like I’m a Proper Grown Up 😱🤣

halfhope · 22/09/2021 13:20

Grin Sing wow - well done. Clearly you're a good teacher Star

SingToTheSky · 22/09/2021 13:20

po3.3
❗️Print maths stuff
❗️Do geography with the boys
❗️Teach more maths

THATmamaofMANY · 22/09/2021 13:56
Redsquirrel5 · 22/09/2021 14:11

Willow I feel really annoyed on your behalf. You have just come out of hospital for a second time you should be taking it easy. I would tell him to get on with it. Funny how when they are faced with it all to do they criticise us and the way we do things.

Hope a pot of tea kindly left by Dancing.
You are right you never stop worrying about your children. He is still eating which is good DS3 kindly took him some shopping just to the door. They live about half a mile walk and DS3 is 5 minutes from an Asda.
Up oh dear. It is one step forward two steps back.
DH is negative, I haven’t been to DS1’s so should I still do a test? I have lft at home so could do that first. Headache could be worry.

Sing great news about pupil.

I really need to do something. Think I will go outside and weed the front flags. Dusting can be later. I need to think of something for dinner.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 22/09/2021 15:41

Great news, Sing!

I have spent a thrilling afternoon searching up our mileage on all vehicles from MOT test certificates and turning them into a spreadsheet to keep an eye on annual mileage. I cannot tell you how exciting this has been, particularly dealing with the big car which got written off and replaced after someone drove straight into us, in November 2018.

Now I am ready for a sleep, but the Fiendish Hellwire comes out of my toe tonight at 6.15pm so I am a bit twitchy.

Sorry to be whingeing about DH. He is not a bad man, I am just very on edge about my health and am symptom spotting madly waiting for it all to go wrong. It's worse than being pregnant.

Redsquirrel5 · 22/09/2021 20:18

And he should be considering your recent stay in hospital and not worrying you with such exhilarating information and research!

Spoke to DS1 turns out he has had it for about a week. GP was one of the better ones. He thinks he is probably over the worst. DS is sleeping a lot. He was quite breathless on the phone. I am going to make him some Jewish Mother’s Soup.

We had veggie pasta with vegan pesto and included some jar artichokes and some of our lovely tomatoes with a glass of red wine..

Dancingtomusic · 22/09/2021 20:35

Willow- you are doing so much - you can whinge as much as you want here. Health worries are heavy - its good you are keeping a eye on your symtoms.
Your hubby is very lucky he has had you organising the house for so long. I dont know how you do so much!

Is the appt today for your toe? I hope it goes well.

Thank you everyone. I need to pull up my big pants and chat to the teachers. Eek.
Dd was fine in class and enjoying school. Its the playground that is just a awful place.

Red- Cant believe you were up so early having a cuppa/brew!

Sorry to everyone having to breakout lft tests- right, left and centre. Hope all pcr come out negative for you all.

Up- hope your midwife appt was ok.

Sing- you a brill teacher!

Big pot of very hot tea or hot chocolate in the naughty corner.☕🏺 (tea . Pot)

Dancingtomusic · 22/09/2021 20:42

Red- good idea to make that soup.
I watched a Nigel Slater programe and a Jewish lady called Regina told him how to make a jewish chicken soup. I wonder if they are similar in the way that they are made? Regina told Nigel to throw away all the veg as after 3 hours of cooking, the vegatable would have lost all the nutrients. She explained how to achieve a clear chicken broth- it looked amazing!

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 22/09/2021 20:51

Thank you for the encouragement, Still!
I'm posting less but so happy to be making progress.
Dad's house, which is in sound condition, everything good quality, is scrubbed up and lovely. The daily routine is becoming manageable and I'm trying to take the mental load more lightly.
My house, whilst inferior in many ways, is coming into shape. Upstairs, I only need to sort out keepsakes - most of which are already decluttered- and then I'm ready for what I'm calling the Big Scrub. That's when I'm (hoping) to scrub the place from ceilings to floors, leaving it ready for repair work and redecoration. It's going to be a long job. Downstairs, the kitchen needs a bit of surface tidying and the living room needs turning out. Not yet. Soon, though.
This thread is very helpful!
