Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Morning! Sounds like people are making enviable amounts of progress.

So, where am I up to?
Did house-elfing for the annoying old dad (who was sweet as can be) yesterday, after doing his shopping on Sunday because even if he's annoying he has to eat and at 89 can't do the shopping himself. So, his master bedroom is tidy, bed changed, most bedclothes washed and dried, and the same for the sofa/bed. At my house less was achieved but I did get into the next town to the bank. In the supermarket I found a purple t-shirt to wear for the Waspi/50s women rallies - £6, so a win. Spoke to dd - she's trying to prep her 9 year old autistic/adhd/pda dd for a four-night residential with school next week, her first trip without parents.

To do:
Bedroom 2, my 'master'.
Declutter underwear hoard, so that I can close their box. I recently reduced underwear by 56l, and now am ready to have another go.
Downstairs rooms need attention.
Fridge!
Dad's house _ finish organising his washing, kitchen incl cupboard doors, dry goods need a check as he's been baking, vacuuming. Put secateurs and rake in car in case it's dry enough to tidy the garden a little.

Loving that I have a plan! Time to Fly!

halfhope · 21/09/2021 08:13

Thanks Hazelnutty - pushing ahead today. Have already been to the shops earlier and will compile a to-do list now. Enjoying coffee 😁.

StillUpholding · 21/09/2021 08:54

Morning everyone. Sorry I’m being a bit crap with personals. I have been reading along, and will catch up properly tomorrow when I’m off.

Here’s the launchpad. Mission is to set your timer for 15 minutes and put away crap in the bedroom - floordrobe etc. It’s also planning day.

Morning! Hazel you're not wrong, yesterday was too much. I am starting today tired, so will take it a lot easier. DH has said the only thing he needs me to do is manage my own cups / plates / dishes so he doesn't have to scout round the house for them.

Hope even if you are bobbing behind in a dinghy we will take you with us. No Fledgling Left Behind!

Hills you got through the day and no-one died. 🏅 for patience with the peoples.

Dancing odd about school trousers, we have had trouble finding ones that fit this year too. Hoping that a combination of a growth spurt, tennis once a week, "walking to school" every day and a fitness thing in his timetable every Monday will help DS3 on this front.

Fiddle wow you've achieved a lot on so many fronts! I didn't realised you had a grandchild too, that's so much to keep in your head. Good luck with the plan today - having that structure is so helpful, isn't it?

Up go steadily or you'll wear yourself out. I hung up the clothes off my chair yesterday, so I will count that as flying!

That are you getting any back to school sitting down yet?
@Castlelough welcome back!

I know there were other personals, but they've fallen out of my head dammit.

🍒👋 to everyone and thanks for all good wishes.

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/09/2021 09:51

What i should be doing - all the things.
What I am actually going to do - take a nap

SingToTheSky · 21/09/2021 10:19

Similar here hills except I didn’t take a nap when I really should have instead of just sitting on the makeshift sofa under my duvet with my phone. FML.

po3.1
❗️Do some work with DS
❗️Antiprocrastinate - messages about today, tutoring etc
❗️Ring flu jab line and sort out injecments or nasal spray for the Caglets

MrsTidyHouse · 21/09/2021 10:50

Red Great suggestions there. Thanks!

LG is 12, in S1 (Scotland) and I would guess about a P6 level in literacy and numeracy. Very switched on, interested in many things but struggles to concentrate on anything not immediately exciting.

LB is 10, in P6, lots of reports and plans and other input, and very late developer. Hoovers up everything he hears and sees, seems to be biding his time as far as showing what he understands. Delightful child, but increasingly aware of gap between himself and classmates, and becoming more isolated by this.

Both greatly affected by ACEs, affecting focus and engagement.

SingToTheSky · 21/09/2021 11:14

Right. Calling vaccine centre was a waste of time as they then said they are only dealing with adults so I have to ring the GP again. But I’m delegating that to DH. Have cried off the meet up today - there’s just too much happening in the next couple of days like my interview and it’s just not worth potentially wearing myself out more. I’m quite glad I don’t have my usual Tuesday piano pupil tonight too, I can stay in my jammies all day so I will!

po3.2
❗️Try phoning volunteer person again, and then update supervisor (as well as checking she can be a referee for the job if I’m offered it)
❗️Discuss plans for some particular days with DH - diary is filling up alarmingly quickly
❗️Eat something and have some water

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 21/09/2021 11:25

Hmm. I should have taken my list with me.

Didn't get to do the garden at dad's but did pursue all the washing, strip, air and remake the bed, slice a potato and put it in the oven for his lunch, cleaned half the cupboard doors in the kitchen, and vacuum. Made him a couple of brews. Going back later.

At mine, sorted the underwear and threw half a bin-liner of 'not used recently' things away. Box now shuts, it's all so tidy. I sort underwear in to zip pocket things sold as pencil cases, keeps different types together and they stand up neatly in their box. Love it. Did my bedroom, checked Bed 1 and Bed 3, sorted the washing and established a new system.

Downstairs still needs a lot of work. Having iced water, Jacob's lunch crackers and a rest at the moment.

HillsBesideTheSea - nap. That's good. I did it for oh, about five years. I did manage a little FlyLady excursion around 2015 but it's taken me until now to get back. Grin I still often take a nap, and it seems I go to bed early most nights, too.

Sing - 'antiprocrastinate', great word. I'm going to write it on an A1 and pin it to the wall. I really need it!

Right, I'm going to look for my timer and hope for the best. See you later!

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/09/2021 11:45

I din't manage a nap, but did catch up with a good friend who I had lost contact with due to life. Was good.

Flare is in control today. Decided to weld the home wax kit and remembered exactly why i dont... Hmm

About to attempt to get going. but motivation and energy are lacking today

SingToTheSky · 21/09/2021 11:53

Can’t take credit for it fiddle it’s the Wednesday focus for flylady! (I just appear to be a day early. It rarely happens on a Wednesday, I think I just rebel against the system 🤣

DH has gone to get Cagletini so I’m just grabbing food now - can’t even stand long enough to make anything so it’s just what I can scavenge. It will not be healthy but I don’t care 🤣

po3.3 (after food/water)
❗️Delegate moving laundry on to DS
❗️Find receipt for replacement order so DH can collect it later - will sort purse at the same time
❗️Relax. Granted I’ve barely moved today but I have done some admin and now I want to purposefully chill!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 21/09/2021 12:31

Please pass the brain bleach, I googled "vajacial" because I'm an idiot. Apparently we need to apply "skin brightening creams" and perhaps "a mild chemical peel" to that area 🤮. YOU WOT?? Gwyneth Paltrow's been allowed out of her box again, hasn't she?

Dancingtomusic · 21/09/2021 12:38

Sing- hope you get a chance to relax lovely.

Soo, i got kids to school for 8.25am - big improvement here.
Todos-
Got to declutter kitchen and sitting room.

Just had a call from school. Dd has been kicked on the nose and its left a mark. Dd did manage to scratch the girl in the face who kicked her.
Yesterday dd told me a girl slapped her.
This is the same person that was going after my son.
I am finding this hard to deal with...its making my anxiety worse. Trying to stay calm and tell myself kids are resilient.
I am going to have to tell the teachers arent I? Do I mention it to the class teachers or the deputy who is on the school gate at pick up time?

halfhope · 21/09/2021 13:11

I'd phone the school and ask the the Class teacher to phone you back after school dancing. That needs to be nipped in the bud.

halfhope · 21/09/2021 13:15

Yeah I know Willow utter tosh about vajaicials - it's simply easier to keep the lights off. Saves energy too - yours and the planet.

SingToTheSky · 21/09/2021 13:32

Oh dancing I’m sorry, that really is horrible the poor little love 😭 why do some kids have to be so mean 😡 I do think it is worth making sure the teachers know it’s the same child. It doesn’t have to be today if you feel it’s too raw and you might get upset etc 💐

I keep having that nagging “I should be doing something specific right now” feeling. Like I have forgotten a lesson or something. But I definitely have no classes today and I’ve done some of the admin I needed to. DS is just putting the towels in the dryer for me. DH has gone to meet DD1 for school approved shoes (half day due to open evening) and collect various things.

po3.4
❗️Make lunch
❗️Do some more work with DS
❗️Make sure September income record is up to date (as I’ve not had as many lessons while ill I haven’t been bothering. Oops)

halfhope · 21/09/2021 17:31

Am working my way through my list. Today's workout is not going to happen. Might go for a walk instead.

Dancingtomusic · 21/09/2021 17:52

Thank you all, 💖
picked up dd and she is fine. At school, the Ice pack had taken the redness down and only faint mark on her nose when i picked her up.
The other older girl has been put on a behaviour card for lying about kicking my dd.
Will tell the teacher tomorrow. Was hoping my kids wud hv spilled the beans to her. Nope. Thanks kids.

Redsquirrel5 · 21/09/2021 19:05

Dancing glad something is being done. You could always write her a note otherwise I do it after school unless you are very early as it is a fraught time for staff trying to get everything set up for lesson and checking staff TAs in etc. Poor thing, ouch!

Hills how lovely to restart a friendship.
Willow you have too much time on your hands “chemical peel”😧🤭😫
Hope good advice!
MrsTidy thank you. LB I would do lots of practical Maths-measuring, weighing, liquid some cooking with those skills measure liner, cake tin etc.
I found boys like him were often better at practical Maths. Eat your fractions- pizza, chocolate, fruit etc this will give him confidence then he will attempt much more difficult. Co - ordinates too. Those puzzle books finding things used to have some in. Knowing shape names and properties is another. Lots of kids don’t know them so if you can plug that gap then it will help test scores. Arithmetic scares a lot. I wasn’t so good on that BUT understood other things.

Sing guess what?
DS1 has been wheezy and thought it was a cold/ asthma and managed to get a telephone appointment. Advised to get a ?

Redsquirrel5 · 21/09/2021 19:20

Posting as nearly lost it.

DS1 took 2lateral flow tests at home negative but as advised went for test in a CAR PARK we are in the north! Positive. DH went to take his prescription yesterday I told him 😠Do NOT go in. 🤬🤯🤬so he has had to go for one this afternoon.

We went to DS2’s today and did some gardening this morning just about to go for a sandwich at village cafe when it came through then DH has to admit he went IN🤬
Bloody old fool! Now he has put me at risk. We were in local for a drink last night. I never would have gone if I knew. It is idiots like him that spread it. I will be so embarrassed.

I haven’t seen any DS for weeks. Luckily I haven’t been to see BF since over a week. Unusual. Glad as she has a vulnerable GC.

Gardening for DS2 and old man next door I cleared all his path of weeds and the steps saw him but good distance and outside. Plan to do some more. He was pleased as unable to do it now. He had a stroke a while ago.
Watered and picked veggies.
Bed made
Washing up done x2
LOL

SingToTheSky · 21/09/2021 19:25

Oh eek red hope DS1 is ok!

Argh think I need that anti procrastinating poster fiddle! I don’t mind that I’ve rested today, but I am still avoiding a very easy task as I’m anxious about it.

po3.5
❗️Scan ID and send along with referee info
❗️Try and find shoes for DD1 on eBay
❗️Quick room rescue living room

halfhope · 21/09/2021 20:05

'I have to do things my way' males - they are a complete curse Red

SingToTheSky · 21/09/2021 20:41

po3.6
❗️Make sure DS does his Duolingo
❗️Prep for tomorrow’s 9am maths lesson
❗️Gather some more rubbish as bin day is tomorrow

Redsquirrel5 · 21/09/2021 21:50

Hope - yep I’ll do what I want when I want!

Sing- when all this started DS1 was the one I worried about the most.

I nearly lost him when he was born(not breathing)SCUBA for a couple of weeks, sickly baby( failure to thrive) until 2 1/2 when GP said he didn’t expect him to live but now he was looking healthy, diagnosed with asthma about 5 yrs and bronchitis as a Primary School child then just before Christmas when he was 18 he nearly died was in hospital then they turfed him out on Christmas Eve and he was so poorly I sat up all night with him. GP said they shouldn’t have sent him home. Took a long time to recover and missed so much school he didn’t do well in his A levels.
Luckily he had both injections before I did.
He has been unwell and very wheezy he said. He is chronic asthmatic.
It held him back from being a professional footballer, two of his friends were and are still friends.Skills wise he was up there, fast, goal scoring and was in Club schoolboys/ youth training.

Let’s hope he gets through this. I am worried about long Covid. We know 3 people with it, over a year most of them. GP put him on antibiotics and steroids straight away so that is great I think he must have seen my GP.

Just have to wait for DH now. I will be making sure he stays home.

Dancingtomusic · 22/09/2021 01:29

Red- I hope your Ds1 is ok. Its good he went for a pcr test. Poor thing, I am glad you doctor prescribed steriods for him. I hope he starts to feel alot better soon. He sounds like he was very ill as baby, you must have been off your mind with worry. Sending you a huge hug and putting on a big pot of tea for when you wake up.
I bet you where fuming about your Dh not listening and just going in. Its almost like the men dont want to be told what to do.
I hope his test comes back negative.
