Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Oh Willow! Hope the catheter stays out now! Can't believe you haven't been fed Sad Hospitals were overwhelmed and less than functional when I was in a couple of years ago and can only imagine how much more strained they are now. Hope you're fit to leave for the comfort of home soon.

Thanks Zoo only hope my liver agrees.

Only got home less than an hour ago as I'm trying to stick to staying and getting most of my work done so I don't bring loads home. I've curled up under my duvet with the dog. Knackered but haven't eaten yet today so will have to move to seek food at some point. Ds has already gone out with friends so has fended for himself presumably.

Can't see me flying tonight. Must.not.order.takeaway.

SingToTheSky · 17/09/2021 22:10

Thanks willow I did wonder (see what I did there?) about that - is it really good? I’ve had iron-on stuff before, as a kid I think mum used it for something, but it didn’t last. It could be worth it though!

As it is, I managed a measly TWO badges. One of which was a bit rushed as DS needed to leave!

You know how so often we procrastinate over tiny, simple tasks? And then we think after, why did we put that off for so long when it only took a few minutes?

Badge sewing is (for me anyway) NOT one of those things.

Sadly procrastinating a difficult task that takes longer than you expect doesn’t work well either. Alas the only logical conclusion is that procrastination is never a good idea.

Damn.

SingToTheSky · 17/09/2021 22:20

I am in quite a bit of pain now. Today was lovely but busy and tiring, I am peopled out as well!

In other news, DD1 got chosen for a work experience scheme. Her friend who didn’t get picked says it’s unfair and that she should have died when we had covid last week. Charming huh? 🙄

Tomorrow is going to be busy too, as Cagletini has a trial lesson for ballroom 😁 so rather than DD1 getting herself there (her own lesson is at the same time in the main hall), I have to take all 3 Caglets as DH is in London for work training all day. Not the best timing when I’m already shattered but ah well. Might need to buy some other colours of thread (and/or wonderwebbiness!) on the way home, will have to see how Cagletini behaves. It’s a walk plus a bus so bit of a trek.

Also must check DS’ CAMHS final referral. Had the last chat with the liaison lady today, for the “how ADHD impacts his functioning” details. She said she’s already got plenty to show that it’s not problems with our parenting, so that’s something Hmm

Redsquirrel5 · 18/09/2021 04:00

Oh strange my posted hasn’t appeared.

Dancingtomusic · 18/09/2021 05:01

I wonder why it didnt post Red
I popped on here to do some reading.

Willow- it all sounds very serious. Glad you are holding onto the independance of your own pants!

Sing- you have had a lot to do recently - its amazing i dont know how you do it sometimes.

I had my flu jab on weds and thought I was fine. Today I spent the afternoon in bed. Then went to a council talk about road changes. Was out for 2 hours explaining calmly on why they should not close the main road in my dads area 🤦‍♀️. I had a headache and by the time I reached home it turned into vertigo just as pulled into my driveway and switched the engine off. I havent had it so strongly for many years. Had to get Dh to get me food as my sugars had dropped too. Slight stress, worry and illness - my body wants to shut down.
I do wish I had a normal functioning body.

Tadas
White laundry dried and put away
Next load needs putting away.

To do
Wash all uniform and dry it all tomo.

HazelNuttyElf · 18/09/2021 06:01

Sing that was an awful thing DDs "friend" said. I really hope she apologises and realises she can't say things like that. I hope DD is OK.
honey did you manage to avoid takeaway?
willow I really do hope you get to go home, I'm mad for you that you haven't been sent home yet. I'd be tempted to tell the nurses on your new ward that you're ready to go home (which I'm sure your are at this point) since they have no idea why you're there either. 😉
dancing I hope you feel better soon

It was a full day of work again, but now it's the weekend!
I managed to sort through some paperwork and actually do some filing!
I sorted out my wardrobe in the spare bedroom, moved some things around so it makes more sense in there.
DD helped DS sort his bedroom out today. Got things from under the bed, so now there's nothing under there (he had used up notebooks from school last year all scattered under his bed). Produced 2 carrier bags of clothes ready to donate, although I'll probably see if BIL needs them for my nephew.
I do have to take a trip to the charity shop to donate as I'll need the back of my jeep empty for next weekend, and I have an air purifier taking up space back there.
I did get to watch dead files tonight, then decided to take a shower. My arms got irritated by the top I was wearing and I couldn't take the itching anymore. It helped a little, but not much.

Anyway, it's 11pm here on a Friday night, I'm tired so think I'll head to bed.
Sorry there aren't more personals 🍒👋 to everyone

SingToTheSky · 18/09/2021 07:53

Morning all. Was so tired and achy last night I fell asleep downstairs 😳 and stayed there. Annoyingly woke up at 6.30 but it did mean I got to chat with DH for a while over a tea before he left for his training day just now (he’s off to That There London). We hardly ever get to actually talk without a child around and tend to prioritise boring day to day house/kidmin so that was nice.

Bit nervous about today, or rather how wiped out I’ll be by the end of it 🤣 can’t remember how late he will be out but we will probably grab lunch in town and then there is at least some filled pasta and sauce that I can do for dinner, so food is taken care of. Got some errands to run in town as well but I’ll see how it goes - really have no clue how Cagletini will be, she’s never joined a class before.

Lots of stuff needs to get done today but I’m going to stick to good old power of three so I don’t overwhelm myself with a long list 🤣

po3.1
❗️Painkillers and more water. Headache is back FFS.
❗️Washing hung out/in dryer
❗️Check what cash I’ve got and separate what’s needed for dance fees (just for DD1, Cagletini’s lesson is a free trial)

SingToTheSky · 18/09/2021 08:39

Right, that’s done and I’ve caught up with the thread 🥳

Thanks hazel this girl is one that they deliberately sat DD1 with on her first day (my DD1 joined partway through second year) - the senco decided it as they are both autistic and dyslexic. I thought that was quite nice but then found out the senco already knew what the other girl can be like (possessive, manipulative etc). Gah. They aren’t as close now and DD1 does of course know it was a stupid thing to say, but she finds it so hard when people say such nasty things to her, she struggles to shrug things off. More for the general “Why do people have to be so mean?” thing than what was actually said IYSWIM. Anyway she’s excited to be back to ballroom/street today so that’ll cheer her up :)

po3.2
❗️Antiprocastinate - check messenger/WhatsApp/texts etc, I tend to leave these things when I get a bit overwhelmed
❗️Wake the Caglets and while I’m upstairs get some clothes for Cagletini
❗️Charge a power pack and grab a couple more masks for my bag

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 18/09/2021 09:07

Morning everyone!
I've been doing my thing but a bit meh so not posting. My kitchen sink, I noticed when I got up this morning (after not sleeping very much at all) is satisfyingly shiny.

SingToTheSky · 18/09/2021 09:31

Hey fiddle :) well done on the shiny sink! Don’t worry about reporting everything you do here - the doing is the important thing! I go through phases of writing everything on a ta da but don’t always.

Kids still aren’t up, not for want of trying. I know DD1 is awake though.

I need to return/exchange M&S stuff but I realised I could do that tomorrow before my flu jab so that’s one thing off today’s list, phew!

po3.3
❗️Make sure they actually get up now as we don’t have long, and get dressed while I’m up there
❗️Somehow get Cagletini looking less scruffy
❗️Have breakfast

StillUpholding · 18/09/2021 10:10

Morning. I’ve been up since 6 with DD but she for engrossed in the tv and I fell asleep on the sofa Blush. Now any motivation I may have had seems to have left me. I need to do a few LOLs and tidy up for my MIL coming to babysit for our meal this evening.

Hope your busy day goes to plan Sing, and glad Dd hasn’t taken her ‘friend’s’ comments too much to heart.

My sink is not shiny this morning Fiddle so you get a Star from me

OP posts:
DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 18/09/2021 12:29

Thank you, Still.
It looks less shiny now the washing up bowl is in it...

SingToTheSky · 18/09/2021 13:14

In the pub for lunch with the Caglets (well, DD1 not here yet as she had street dance after ballroom). Cagletini enjoyed her class! 🥰

Went to get some more thread (in badge colours) AND some of the iron stuff - fellow scout mums have said they find it doesn’t hold the badges for more than a few washes, but one said it can be useful for holding them in place before sewing, and since I found pinning them on really fiddly that seems like a good plan! Can get them all ironed into place in one go (well DH can, he’s the ironing one) and then sew them a couple at a time.

I may have got a couple of games for Cagletini at the charity shop by dancing too. 😳 And a new (still in shrink wrap) Mario puzzle for DS, which I had on the list for Christmas, so that’s one thing sorted for a bargain price 😁

SingToTheSky · 18/09/2021 13:15

Oh, and if anyone feels bad about having a chairdrobe…

Fledglings Soar Calmly into September - the FlyLady Thread
HazelNuttyElf · 18/09/2021 16:12

Sing that's one reason why I don't have a chair in the bedrooms, although DD has one and her clothes still end up on the floor 🤦‍♀️ although I did set up one of those hanging shelf things in my wardrobe last night specifically for "those clothes" clean enough to wear again, but not clean enough to hang with the clean clothes. I'll go take a picture in the minute, it looks a lot better than before.
It's so nice to find brand new things at the charity shop, it doesn't happen very often though. I hope DS will enjoy his puzzle.
Up my sink wasn't shiny this morning either, although I still have a few dirty dishes on the counter, although they are rinsed and attacked nicely, there just wasn't enough for a DW load.
Well done on the shiny sink fiddle

Ta Das so far:
🍁 Opened up windows to air out the house
🍁 Got roast beef in the slow cooker for dinner tonight
🍁 Made DS some chamomile tea and honey since he seems to be getting a cold
🍁 Drank my 1st cup of coffee

DS wants to try pumpkin spice latte from a coffee shop, I don't think he'll like it, but I'm going to get him one in a little bit. I planted myself on the couch, which was probably a mistake!
I really should try to peel myself up off the couch and get ready for the day (it's just after 9am here)
I'll try to be back later with more ta das

HazelNuttyElf · 18/09/2021 16:16

This is my wardrobe right now after sorting it. The bigger hanging shelves is where I'll put "those clothes"

Fledglings Soar Calmly into September - the FlyLady Thread
DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 18/09/2021 17:34

@HazelNuttyElf, that's fabulous! My wardrobe only contains coats and jackets. Everything else is in transparent storage crates, sorted by type eg 'tops' and labelled. Not glamorous but effective as I sort my way out of years of clutter.

SingToTheSky · 19/09/2021 00:19

Great wardrobe hazel! We don’t really have a chairdrobe although we do now have a chair for the desk so it is perhaps a risk 🤣

Today went pretty well all told, I was glad when DH got in though - in time for him to do dinner. Cagletini had been very cheeky and stroppy all afternoon and I’m aching in muscles I’d forgotten about. I’ve retreated upstairs now, we watched Strictly late and since then DD1 has been chatting about all sorts but it’s more the talking AT me thing… I am too tired for that! She’s now doing a final physics lesson catch up from when we were isolating Confused as she knows she isn’t allowed to meet friends till it’s done. Bit of an odd choice but whatever, she’s happily doing it and she’s right that she’d just get grumpy doing it in the morning so whatever 🤷‍♀️ At least DS is asleep 🙄

I have SO MUCH TO DO tomorrow (today 😭) and I’m just having a little panic about getting it all done.

SingToTheSky · 19/09/2021 00:19

You’d think I’d maybe follow DD1’s lead and get something done now but I am (unlike her) actually bloody tired. So goodnight. 🤣🍒👋

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/09/2021 08:05

That's a good haul zoo that reminds me that I still have to load things up in the jeep to go to the charity shop too.

I got a few more things done since this morning (or actually yesterday morning now, since it's after 1am here)

🌻 2 LOLs of towels
🌻 2 LOLs of blankets
🌻 painted top of half wall (pic attached)
🌻 Washed walls down on stairway and the partial wall
🌻 vacuumed couch after taking the blankets off of it
🌻 cleaned filter in vacuum
🌻 Cooked the rest of roast dinner (mashed potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, parsnips and carrots - roasted & homemade gravy)
🌻 played a couple of games with ILs
🌻 rotated DW x2 and still have one more load to do, plus handwash.

I'm falling asleep best be off

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/09/2021 08:40

Night lovely!

Wake D's

SingToTheSky · 19/09/2021 09:32

Morning all! Except hazel - night night 😘😁

Aah DS must be so nervous bless him zoo! Well done for donating all that stuff - must have felt sad but it’ll bring joy to many families and the charity too 🥰

I’m aching like crazy this morning, but I need to get stuff done before my injecment at 1pm. Cagletini is happily watching classic pink panther, best crack on

po3.1
❗️Painkillers and more water
❗️Clean weekly planner board
❗️Get Caglets to get on with stuff (school work etc)

SingToTheSky · 19/09/2021 10:10

Right, DS is about to listen to more of the story and then he can do his last bit of physics (we’ve agreed from now on that any work that doesn’t get done in the week will be finished over the weekend, and Friday he didn’t get time due to the park meet) and DD1 has been sent to gather her whites to wash for school.

po3.2
❗️Make plans for tomorrow (meeting friends then meeting science tutor)
❗️Gather stuff that needs exchanging at M&S
❗️Write the week up on the board

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 19/09/2021 11:03

I AM HOME! Finally made it back at a quarter to eight last night after three or four possible false starts. I have had a wash and a sleep in my own bed and feel so much better. The list of meds I must take requires a flow chart all of its own, but I am so pleased to be back.

I am trying not take slide straight back into doing everything, but I must do more moving than before as it was bedrest that put me in this position in the first place; while also remembering that it might take til Christmas for the clots in my lungs to break up and everything to go back to normal. Why is there not a handy book about this?

I have missed too much to do all the personals, but Hazel I love your wardrobe, zoo well done on getting rid of so many childhood things from the DC and Sing good luck with the injecment.

🍒👋 to everyone else, DH has just had me go through the fridge with him (because he's ignored it since Monday) and now I have to pickle beetroot, make potato salad and review the menu plan. Just after this little nap...
