Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Yes, Dad's bed was made up, more washing, drying, putting away and washing up done. Made a brew, buttered some malt loaf, closed the curtains, put on the lights.

At the moment, this is all going well. This level of care has been going on six months or so, and began when he was really quite ill. He's better now, and isn't incompetent but he is getting a little forgetful.

YupIHave · 12/09/2021 20:55

Bath was not so relaxing as I had hoped as a wasp came in through the open window just after I had got in and buzzed around the room like crazy. Sigh.

Willow that is simply too adorable 😊 and well done you for finishing it off. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hello people! I am still here, and even doing cleaning. Well, some of it, as we got a cleaner now (who is amazing!) and it feels great not having to do weekly home bleugh. It's the usual kitchen/laundry/S&S/cooking that's left to me.

Had a bit of disagreement with DH last week and I still have a funky after taste a week later. It started off with him getting into a properly annoyed mood that he couldn't see TV well due to baby proofing (it's a long story, apparently it can't be mounted on a wall, so I had to get a gate thing to go around TV unit and then another piece of furniture to raise the TV so the gate doesn't cut across the screen, he helped with none of it). So I lost it. And it turned into a pissing contest of who does more and who is more tired. He came out with a sentence of 'Don't overestimate what you do around here, and underestimate what I do'. Given he sees playing with his own child as a chore, nevermind washing his own damn pants, I felt quite hurt. I am still contributing financially, even though my mat pay has stopped already. So I am sitting back a lot more often now, and letting him make his own lunch and sort his own dinner when he comes home.

So yes, between the cleaner and me taking a step back, I am not doing as much flying as before.

Redsquirrel5 · 12/09/2021 23:30

Good for you MC they can get very artsy about how much they do. I remember DH seemed to think he did rather a lot until I reminded him he was only here for 13 days a month and he slept for the first 24 hrs. I was working, ferrying kids around and house plus garden for most of the month. DH washes up, makes lunch and occasional evening meal and washes up or DW. He does own washing. He mows grass. I do everything else.

Fiddler if I may call you that? Welcome I was wondering whether you were new or returning. Missed when you arrived sorry. I get the “brew” reference as I worked with a lass that often said “Shall we get a brew first?” I live north of Lancashire but have been know to go over the border at times. Very good fabric place in Lancaster and DS2 worked and lived there for a year so went down a couple of times to visit. Great work for your dad and none of us can do home bleugh in the time her Ladyship does it so don’t bother trying.
Willow That looks lovely. I also have some projects between 10-15 yrs old. I hope to get some done this winter. Have a bit of a rest tomorrow after today. Once you start to show willing they will let you get on with it with little support.

Honey lovely hair. Is it naturally wavy? Colour lovely. I am blond but very light now and lots of grey and some white. It looks ok at the moment because the sun has made it blonder but once it goes dark I think the grey will be more evident.
Zoo wonder what happened to DP?
Yup damn wasps very dopey now here.
Hills glad you got some time away. Difficult.
Sing hope everyone feeling better soon. Did you all come back positive? I seem to have missed a page.

Hazel could you explain the school system. Watching American programmes I get a bit confused. They seem to go later to high school and is college next and do some call uni college?

I have had a lovely day. Watched the Great North Run women winners, jumped in shower and washed and conditioned hair. Dressed and scraped into Mass at 11. Mind drifted a bit. Home to find friend already there so quick visit in and then went with her and man friend to where we used to live and had Sunday Dinner of Roast Beef and lemon tart with raspberry sorbet. Her friend who we know now insisted on paying so our turn next time. DH didn’t come as took ill yesterday with headache and went to bed. For 24 hrs! Rarely gets a headache I had to manage kids with migraine and cook. When I had aura I could see or stand so had to let me go then.
Zoo I feel your pain re iced bun. I want one now.
We had scrambled egg on toast for tea, bless my little Bantams.

Plan for tomorrow. Pof 3

Ironing
Clean shower tray and glass
Walk dog from pub. This is a favour I am looking forward to. Lovely dog.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋to those I haven’t mentioned.

Redsquirrel5 · 12/09/2021 23:32

Arsey!

SingToTheSky · 12/09/2021 23:44

Aaargh mc 😡 what a knobber. I’m sorry, I’m not surprised you are still reeling from that :( well done for standing up for yourself and what you do with your home and your baby! Hopefully he will start realising everything you do for him normally.

I should be in bed but DS wasn’t tired and DD1 suggested playing some games. She never usually wants to do this so there was no way I’d say no to that, and we have had a nice fun evening with cutthroat games of sushi go and go nuts for donuts so far.

EssentiallyDisorganised · 12/09/2021 23:53

Tada!

Stripped bed and washed sheets
Loaded car for tip run
Hung out sheets and put DCs sheets on to wash
Knocked back sourdough dough made last night
Took DS to work
Went to tip
Hour at the allotment
Home
Found there was an air ambulance parked up outside the house which had just been stood down from a call, went and chatted with crew.
Chatted with neighbours who had also come out to see AA.
Hung out 2nd lot of sheets
Baked sourdough
Ate sourdough
Picked up DS from work
An hour decluttering the patio of weeds and builders debris (small stuff, screws, washers etc)
Took DS to football
Crocheted a square
Brought DS home
Faffed about with DD's phone which seems to be broken
Supervised lateral flow tests
Cleared up kitchen and washed up
Put DW on
Sorted out baking tray drawer so they all fit
Helped DS pack for boarding
More faffing with DD phone
Sorted two loads of clean clothes from yesterday
Put mine away
Remade bed
Collapsed into said bed

Going to work for a rest tomorrow

Things got crazy. We played Double Dobble. Harry Potter and regular deck on the go at once. 🤣

Dancingtomusic · 13/09/2021 02:06

Sing- is that a card game? Sounds great!
ED- great picture of the AA, the sky looks so pretty. That is a truely epic list weldone! Hope your Ds moves to boarding all smoothly.
Red- Your meal out sounds really delish! That was very nice of yours friends, man friend to pay. Hope your Dh feels better soon.

Mc- I have seen a pattern with men with babies around Mctiny age - men seem to think they do more - They Do Not- they have to voice it to be heard over the baby. I think they just cant handle being 'last in line.' They see how amazing a mum is and how much she does- so they have to be arses. I has taken my dh until my kids are 5 and 6 to take over fully looking after them. He took them swimming and mcds to eat then the supermarket. They where gone 5 hours!
Weldone for hiring a cleaner and contributing to the house. Do sit back. Good on you.
How did you find your cleaner?

Willow- lovely pillowcase. It looks like a complicated picture. I hope you rest your foot now.
Hills - you said what needed to be said. Hope you get away for the night.
Fiddler- welcome. Looking after a parent is hard work.
Honey- your hair looks lovely. If i had hair like that...i would be swishing it all the time - like in the hair adverts.

Tadas-
🎉sorted 5sets of uniform onto hangers for each kid.
🎉dw on
🎉visit dad after op (isolating so we stayed away.)
🎉bike ride
🎉 finished reading Davinas book- it was wonderful- it was like a big sister giving me advice- its great as i feel so lonely sometimes.

To do-
🎉get up at 6am and drive to local petrol station to get bread for toast- i am starving right now- 🤦‍♀️
🎉must get kids to school on time- so they dont have to run to their class in the morning.

HazelNuttyElf · 13/09/2021 05:20

honey your hair is gorgeous! I hope you got warmed up in the end.

Welcome fiddler did you do all that in one day?! Well done. No way could that be done in 15 minutes, but I see what you're saying, staying on top of the housework is easier than getting it all done in one day.

willow you've been busy, well done for completing your cushion.

Ta Das:
🌻 Pool emptied (took all day)
🌻 Pool towel dried & put away
🌻 Skyped mum
🌻 Pulled weeds
🌻 Sorted out the bigger rocks around the border of flower bed
🌻 DH & DS built shelves for the shed
🌻 Ended up getting fast food for dinner, but I had the low carb option, proud of myself
🌻 Played a few games of pool with DH, I lost all of them 🤦‍♀️
🌻 Clothes out for tomorrow
🌻 DW rotated
🌻 in bed early for a change.

It's not even 10:30pm and I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. Time for an early night, yay!

🍒👋 to everyone

HazelNuttyElf · 13/09/2021 05:22

Oh, Red to answer your question. They get out of high school at 18, they take finals to graduate. Then they go into college/ university. I believe they are one in the same.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 13/09/2021 07:05

Gosh Mc, DH is being a bit cranio-rectal isn't he? Let him fend for himself for a bit, silly sod. But hurrah for having a cleaner and striking the home bleugh off in one fell swoop. I think DH's often overstate what they do until they actual have to do all of it. My DH has gone very quiet on the subject recently.

Zoo good luck with the school visit today, hope it can be made to fly for DS. How will he get there on a day to day basis? Crossing fingers DD2 is able to find comfortable people at school today.

Red that sounds like a lovely weekend and roast out 😋. Enjoy your dog walk today!

Dancing glad to see you, was beginning to worry a bit! Hope you have some toast now. Does it feel good to have 5 lots of uniform ready for the week? I'm sure I would keep popping back to admire them all on their hangers! Very glad you got to visit your Dad, how is he post-op?

Hazel sounds like a full on weekend, hope you got your early night.

@MrsTidyHouse do we need to come and rescue you from the pile of boxes under the stairs?

Honey how's the lovely swishy hair this morning? I wish mine would do that!

ED I'm amazed you stayed upright long enough to make the bed with a list that long! Hope DS gets / got off alright (can't remember if he goes back Sunday night or Monday morning). How was his trip last week?

Sing I love that when things get crazy in your house it means you've played a super-double-complicated card game 🤣.

Yup bloody wasps!

Big week for DD this week as all the gigs that were booked for around her 16th birthday that got shifted by Lockdowns have finally reappeared, all at once! Ditto for DS1, so they have gigs in London / Manchester on Tuesday, together in London on Wednesday and then DS1 is staying here, he has to be in Norwich on Thursday to see the same chap DD is seeing on Saturday. Then we are all seeing the same band on the weekend of the 25th (DS1 in Sheffield, the rest of us in London) while DS3 goes for a sleepover at DS2's flat. I think I need a flowchart.

Ta da
❤️ Got up to let stupid dog out, as he was hurling himself at our bedroom door to go and yarp at another dog on the field behind us
🧡 Make tea while down there and bring it, dog, me and crutch back up to bed.

To do:
📝 Simple client tree adjustment and send for printing
📝 Finish off work I did on Friday and email to different client
📝 Get onto Moonpig and sort out next week - my sister's 20th wedding anniversary, my BF's tenth and our 22nd, all in 4 days, and a friend's boy is 12 on the same day as sister's anniversary. It's also Dad's birthday the day before DSis anniversary so need to find time to pop to the churchyard (possibly not a good idea if still on crutches?)
📝 File papers that are building up
📝 Nap
📝 More painkillers
📝 Supervise DS3 changing his bed
📝 Get DD to change her bed

Thank goodness I cancelled the ultrasound this morning (no-one could get me there and was a follow up on a blood clot we know isn't there), I can't see where I'd fit it in!

🍒👋 to Up, Hope, foxes, Hills, flowerbus, That (hope this week is quieter!) merryhouse, fiddle, SC and everyone.

Mc3209 · 13/09/2021 08:29

Morning all🙂 thank you for your solidarity and kind words. I felt a bit guilty yesterday, waltzing in after being absent, dumping in a load of moans, and departing 😬

Dancing how is your dad after his op?
I found a cleaner through a (local?) company, Maid2Clean. I quite enjoyed the pun in the name.
Willow that is a beautiful cushion! You are very talented. Keeping everything crossed you pass your foot MOT on Wednesday.
Cranio-rectal 🤣 I was giggling at that!
Up a wee sister for your girly, how wonderful! How are you feeling? When are you starting mat leave?
Massive waves to everyone else, and lots of welcome to the newbies.

TheHoneyBadger · 13/09/2021 09:05

Ha! My hair is just a frizzy mess today after swimming in the lake. It is naturally wavy but she did that with straighteners - she sent me a photo of the back and it looked stunning. Definitely a one off as I'm not that skilled or bothered.

Good luck with school visit Zoo - hope it feels good and right so you can embrace it confidently.

Willow am crossing everything you're allowed a bath soon and glad DH has gone quiet about how much he does after a dose of doing everything Grin

Don't feel guilty Mc - we can all relate to needing to do a big grrrr and just be heard by people who get it. I don't know how people cope with marriage - life is so stressful and juggly and adding a full time relationship in the mix is too much for me. Hope atmosphere is ok at home or on the mend at least.

I've got a load of washing on and am running a bath. Need to have a clean up in kitchen, get loads of recycling and rubbish out, hang out the washing and load the dw before going to work at 11. Oh and walk the dog. Then three lessons, a bus duty and some planning and must fill my basket which I'm 'holding' with jack daniels and gin with some actual food for delivery tomorrow. Reading this paragraph when I log in after work will remind me hopefully!

Big welcomes and waves to everyone else.

SingToTheSky · 13/09/2021 09:36

I’m behind on the thread - Up I missed that baby’s a girl! 🤩💖 We planned to leave DC3 as a surprise, but DD was desperate to find out, I do think it’s lovely for siblings to know in advance 🥰

Mc don’t feel guilty for venting! 💐

Dancing I am very pleased to see that DH took the kids out for a day! Long may that continue!

I can’t believe it’s Monday. It certainly doesn’t feel like it. Everyone else seems to still be asleep. Obviously recovering from the craziness of impromptu game night, willow 🤣

Had a phone call from one of my fave doctors as we keep getting symptom surveys by text and I’d mentioned the dizziness. Nice to be checked up on, but I reassured them I’m fine just taking it easy for a bit :)

I’m just sleepy now really. I may even have a cup of tea. Possibly a ninky tea. NOT a kinky tea as autocorrect keeps insisting 😱😱😱

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 13/09/2021 09:50

Ta da!

📝 Nap ✅

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 13/09/2021 09:52

🤣🤣🤣 kinky tea!🤣🤣🤣 Even better than ninky tea! Can't be ordinary tea, as ...

Proper tea is theft!

Dammit, I crack myself up sometimes.

SingToTheSky · 13/09/2021 09:56

That nap’s done you the world of good, willow :o

SingToTheSky · 13/09/2021 10:01

FYI this was one of the top hits for kinky tea. Yes, I was brave (or stupid) and googled.

Somebody tell Brian from Hull!!!

Also attached, my previous Google search. DD1 told me to. I wasn’t disappointed.

blow dried cow! I love it!

Yoni tea? Not so much. Who wants a state of sexual bliss when drinking tea and reading the paper?

SingToTheSky · 13/09/2021 11:14

Yes it’s not the ideal combo IMO.

Well I’ve had a productive morning so far… just maths. 🤣 I don’t even mean home ed/revision with the Caglets. Should probably engage with the family at some point

I did get an enquiry about more maths lessons though so that’s exciting! I’m fairly sure I didn’t get an interview for the job I recently applied for 😭 so I’m happy to focus a bit more on the tutoring now.

Feeling a bit “stuck” now so I need a list.

❗️Take DS’ home ed stuff and this week’s plan downstairs, and get both Caglets to start some work
