Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

sing you are still in recovery from the virus so self care and not pushing yourself is a must.

Ninky tea in the naughty corner 😁

Ah yes willow will waving. I've had that. Except it was pontificating in an angry letter about how they were going to make 'special provision' for their grandson in their will - they didn't exactly say I'd be disinherited but effectively they were pointing to it. I didn't respond. Poor DH - 'd'fil sounds head-wrecking. Parents of this ilk are a bottomless pail.

TheHoneyBadger · 12/09/2021 12:02

It was colour and trim zoo pic attached. My roots had gotten incredibly long and I was living with hair scraped back in a ponytail. She’s done a good job of trying to tie it all together with just a half head of foils.

Spent lots of time with ds this morning and am soon off to swim. Have sorted laundry and will put on a light load before I leave and must must must remember to hang it out when I get back.

I’ve slept loads this weekend. Not very productive but rest is good.

Honey that looks gorgeous 🤩💖

po3.1
❗️Clean planner board
❗️Make plan for DS for the week ahead
❗️Have a cup of tea (I must be ill!!!)

YupIHave · 12/09/2021 12:08

Gorgeous honey. Really beautiful 😍

Enjoy your swim 🏊‍♀️

TheHoneyBadger · 12/09/2021 12:17

Thanks. She’s so good and too cheap. I overpaid because I think her prices are too low-she was trying to only charge me £58.50 for half head of foils, cut and blow dry and she was here for nearly 3 hours!

Will have a full head of foils and another trim next time and I should be back on track and basically blonde which cheers me up over winter. Lockdowns and home bodge jobs were not kind to my hair

YupIHave · 12/09/2021 12:22

Ta-da

Bed made
DS bedroom floor cleared (by DS)
Boosty let loose in there (boosty is our pet Eufy)
DS bed changed
DS room dusted
1 LoL out to dry, another in wm
Dusted bedroom
Hoovered living area inc under sofa-seats.

Dusted skirting boards

Pretty pleased with DS this morning. Normally he moans about tidying and getting ready for the day and anything I ask for him to do. This morning he wanted to speed run through everything so that he could spend the day gaming and hang out with a friend. I'm hoping he's beginning to learn that it's best to get things out the way so he can spend time doing what he wants to do. Now if only I could manage that.

Can I say that renew my spirit was actually cleaning? I found it calming and relaxing today. (I don't normally). Bedroom, DS bedroom and living rooms feels pretty calm and clean. Positive vibes.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/09/2021 12:41

Yes. Self care has become a toxic term. Imo self care is anything that helps you. So it could be making that difficult phone call, doing the hard thing that has to be done, making time to read a book, studying to progress, meal prepping, and if it helps your mental state cleaning.

halfhope · 12/09/2021 12:42

What beautiful hair HoneyBadger ❣️. I am a greying shorthaired brunette. If I had hair like yours I'd just spend hours swishing my locks.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/09/2021 12:43

My act of self care was to tell my mother to stop being a bitch and if she couldn't say anything nice to keep her god damn mouth shut.

Not the most grown up thing, but yeah, it has been needed after the last few days

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/09/2021 12:43

Honey - lovely looking hair.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 12/09/2021 12:46

Hurrah for positive cleaning vibes renewing your spirit, Yup

Honey what glorious hair! I am v. jealous (big roots issue here as can't stand up long enough to dye them). It looks beautiful.

Hope I agree FIL is the arse that keeps on giving. DH is going to reach tipping point soon I think. He's already told FIL that it's his money and he should do what he thinks is best with it. The will is arranged so that, should the worst happen to DH, I can't disinherit my own children, which I think shows much about how FIL would behave. He was asking the other night if DS2's GF has a job, subtext: is she spending all his money? Which is what he asked when DH and I got engaged. In both cases, us GFs were earning more, which he conveniently ignored.

Miserable Old Git.

Anyway, back to cheerful things:
❤️ Beetroots prepped and boiling
🧡 Eggs devilled for DS3's lunch
💛 Last of the rhubarb stewing gently with juice and zest from a sad-looking orange from the fridge, and a lump of ginger
💚 DH picking more blackberries for stewing
💙 Smart shoes purchased for DS3 (took about 20 mins all in because I sent him and DH. No faffing 😂).

SingToTheSky · 12/09/2021 12:47

The tea craving passed so I drank some water instead 🤷‍♀️🤣

po3.2
❗️Get Caglets started on scout badge work/science or history revision homework
❗️Fill in planner for the week
❗️LOL

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 12/09/2021 13:08

Dad's (he's 89, fell on 28 March, is pretty good but not interested in housework):
Stripped the bed.
Sorted three loads of washing, left the third one on to dry later.
Sorted three loads of tumble drying.
Pegged out a big sheet thing.
Put three loads of dry washing away.
Vacuumed the kitchen and part of the living room.
Did his supermarket shopping.
Labelled his supermarket shopping, writing big enough for him to read, and put it away. Explained to him about the new chips and put some on for his lunch.
Made him two brews (that's mugs of tea, in case you don't speak Lancashire).

Cleaned his sixty-plus year old pink enamel bath with soap flakes because you're not to put modern detergents on the enamel. Soap seems to be working and doesn't leave residue like bicarb. I dry it thoroughly to avoid slipping. Experts are welcome to advise.
Replaced the toilet roll, as an empty one isn't much use.
Emptied and set up again two bins, kitchen and bedroom.
General waste wheelie bin is full (three-weekly collection near us) so triple-bagged three extra bin-bags to stand by the four bins in anticipation of a collection next week.
Found clean bedding etc and left it out in the bedroom.
Aired house for two hours.
Found the water heater was on, probably from yesterday, reminded dad about the new settings for on and off. Scalded my hand on the boiling water!
Had a hard word with dad about paying for a job that needs doing.
Returning at 5.30, to make up the bed and sort further washing and ironing.

Mine:
Sorted, folded towels from airing.
Put some items not yet dry on the lakeland airer (it's full).
Toast and tea for breakfast.
Washed and dressed, didn't wash my hair, left the house around 8.30.
Did some of my shopping whilst in supermarket for dad. Self-checkout, two lots from one trolley, paid separately to keep his accounts clear. Bought his strawberries by mistake but don't begrudge him a £2 treat.
Got back around 12.30.

I'm tired. Grin

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 12/09/2021 13:45

Welcome @DoesHePlayTheFiddle! Are you sure you've not got my FIL there? Many parallels, including not putting modern detergents on the pink bath original to the house (built in 1960ish)! Ours won't accept washing and bed changing needs done though - keeps insisting he "did it last last week", which could be anything up to 18 months ago.

I'm not surprised you're tired. Hope you get a bit of time to yourself this afternoon.

✅ Blackberries stewed
✅ Very last few broad beans picked for tea
✅ DH hung the white wash out but apparently does not understand "give the school shirts a good shake to get the creases out" 😂

halfhope · 12/09/2021 14:02

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 My act of self care was to tell my mother to stop being a bitch and if she couldn't say anything nice to keep her god damn mouth shut.😁😁😁😁

Good woman yourself Hills

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 12/09/2021 14:03

Thank you, @IWillWashTheGreenWillow - love the name, it really expresses how I feel about my own life now. Show me the willow, I'll wash it, dry it and have it put away before bedtime!

I can assure you, my dad wouldn't be in clean sheets if I left it up to him Grin.

I'm feeling guilty that I didn't get it all done in FlyLady's fifteen minutes, though. That's my aspiration - to have the place running so smoothly it takes hardly any time.

StillUpholding · 12/09/2021 14:04

I can understand why my phone leapt to ‘tea’ but don’t think I’ve ever typed ninky in my life Grin

Impressive list Fiddle! Good to have you with us. Hope you get a well-earned rest.

Honey you’re hair is gorgeous. I wouldn’t have wanted to go swimming so as not to ruin it.

Yup I also feel really good after my cleaning this morning. It’s been annoying me for weeks and I now feel much calmer, and won’t feel bad if nothing else gets done. I’d really like a eufy but I’m worried it would traumatise the poor cats.

Don’t be too hard on yourself Sing, you need your rest.

Your attempt at self-care sounds most satisfying Hills.

More ta Das:
✅ washing hung up
✅ wiped kitchen window sill, inside bin cupboard and cupboard fronts as a last ditch effort in zone 2
✅ peeled potatoes, prepared veg and made
Yorkshire pudding batter
✅ consumed delicious roast
✅ collapsed on sofa where I fear I may burst. Especially as DD is determined to sit on me.

Hi fiddle :)

po3.3
❗️Shower, defrost, hair wash, trim nails
❗️Check pupil’s homework and make some notes as to what to do next time
❗️Sign up for a couple of openlearn courses (ones that will help prove I am ready in the OU’s eyes)

SingToTheSky · 12/09/2021 14:34

Once I’ve done those I’m rewarding myself with maths 🤣

TheHoneyBadger · 12/09/2021 14:56

Home and freezing. Goodness knows how you all manage other people's housework on top of your own.

I have ordered takeaway again - rubbish of me but about halfway round my second lap of the lake I was suddenly ravenous. Fish and chips on it's way. Hopefully some stodgy food will warm me up.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/09/2021 16:47

Not really up i am currently looking to see if I can rearrange my scedle so I can book a hotel room on monday night and leave after my medical appointment tomo. Short notice night away and some adventuring. I have work wednesday. But fucking hell the people are trying today.

YupIHave · 12/09/2021 17:10

Problem is mothers never back off for long hills

Take care of yourself sing

Welcome fiddle

up I'm jealous of your roast dinner. Can't remember the last time I had a roast. I will try to do a roast dinner in the next couple of weeks.

I kondoed my books a few years back. Only keep books I absolutely love, most of them are ones from years ago that I read every few years. These days I read on my kindle app. I do get actual books as presents but after reading I pass it on.

DP is back. Have had a nice afternoon chatting and drinking tea. DS busy gaming with his friend.

To-do
Bung pizzas in for the boys
Cook dinner for us.

Have a nice relaxing bath.
Get stuff ready for tomorrow.

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 12/09/2021 17:16

Thank you for the 'Hi's and 'welcome's. Wine

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 12/09/2021 20:13

Yup I would kill for a bath. Three more days (I hope. If the consultant on Weds says more time without foot wet I shall cry).

DS2 and GF came for roast, it was lovely. She has survived her first week of training as a nursery nurse, and is so tired she doesn't know where to put herself. DS2 has bough a broom and a mop. I am so proud of him 😂.

Roast pork and various garden crumbles were lovely but I had to do more standing up and cooking than I have for over a month. And no-one has been keeping an eye on baking stuff, just using it, so we currently have no oats or brown sugar. And someone stuffed an open packet of cream crackers into the back of the baking cupboard?🤷

Hills particularly if you had to tell your Venerable M to back off and shut up, I think going away tomorrow night would be a) entirely justified and b) very good for you. Get some space.

Fiddle hope you got your Dad's bed made up again.

I am now back upstairs resting my foot. Appear to have written an essay, but actually only popped on to post a picture of the cushion. Only 15 years to finish the cross stitch and 6 years to turn it into something! 🤣
