Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Crochet class went well thanks, this group is picking it up nicely although they underestimate how well they’re doing.

Having a lazy day working on a hat, I seem to have set myself homework as well as the group!

halfhope · 11/09/2021 18:38

Ah well done Goth. I've seen beautiful crochet cat sofas online and I've been very taken with them.

Zoo - I had to pause for a moment to think about which month it is 😁

When you want a particular baked treat there's not much consolation in the replacement. I now want an iced bun if that's any consolation to you!

YupIHave · 11/09/2021 19:27

zoo well done on your decluttering and tidying. I decluttered 5 books today. Not much but I don't have many anyway. Sorry about the lack of iced bun. Very disappointing to not be able to eat what you are craving.

hills hope your day walking was enjoyable.

red well done on a good nights sleep. Need a bit of that myself.

goth is crocheting relaxing? My mum used to crochet and knit and tried to teach me but I rebelled and refused to learn. Hmm She can't see very well now and doesn't do it anymore.

willow you can do it!

hope sorry to hear your DH is not well. DH and I have walk and talk sessions to help with our mental health wellness. Very therapeutic.

Ta-da:

halfhope · 11/09/2021 19:45

Thanks yup I've always been the more upbeat of the two of us whereas he's inherited the depressive streak from his Mum. She was hospitalised a few times and thankfully he's never suffered like that

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/09/2021 20:50

The walk was lovely, We did a market town rather than actual hills. Very gentle and plodding today.

Bought a copy of small holder too. So currently enjoying that whilst waiting for washing machines and driers to be done with washing my bedding.

I have huge amounts to do tomo but i think for now after a 22hr day (the maths was done) i am going to figure alternative bedding arrangements and just head to bed.

Night.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/09/2021 20:53

Yup - i find it relaxing. But i can also do it whilst doing other things so it helps with the fidgeting side of my ADHD. My mind can concentrated on the visual thing and my hands on the thing i am working on. Especially if it is a gentle pattern. Back and forth or around and around in knit. Grannie squares etc.

I look at all the fancy stitch pattern blankets and I like the idea of them. but then I know i dont have that kind of brain space in the current period of life i am in. But you can make some pretty amazing things with basic stitches.

TheHoneyBadger · 11/09/2021 21:04

I had the hairdresser here for the morning and have done a lol and a tiny bit of tidying and swept up hair but that’s it. More washing to do tomorrow and may manage to force myself to do some vacuuming.

Swimming in a lake is tomorrow’s main thing. Setting off around lunchtime and should be back by mid to late afternoon. Pretty tired and enjoying resting loads today.

The lake can be my renew your spirit thing for tomorrow. I’ve forgotten what Saturday is meant to be about. Eyes are closing so time to get off the phone

merryhouse · 12/09/2021 00:03

TaDa
washed gis
washed up from last night
peeled and deseeded some home-grown tomatoes
made cheese and tomato muffins
hung gis outside!
washed darks
did (some of the) ironing
hung darks
went out
rang on eight bells and didn't go wrong (we will pass over the time I attempted to dodge at the back instead of making long sevenths...)
held a ten-week-old baby!
watched some more Lovely David Dr Who

I never learned to crochet. I seem to remember thinking that it looked insanely complicated only using one implement and because I didn't see how it worked I couldn't possibly learn

ha, that's what went wrong in the sixth form isn't it (have actually known this for some time)

HazelNuttyElf · 12/09/2021 00:59

Ta Das:
🍁 Worked 8am-4pm at my 2nd job
🍁 S & S both bathrooms
🍁 Helped DH clean out the gutters on the house

I have just crashed on the couch, it's almost 6pm. We're going to head over to ILs tonight for dinner, so at least I know I don't have to cook anything. My feet hurt, since I've been standing on them all.day.long.

honey time swimming in the lake sounds fun. Saturday is family fun day, in our family it's family night. Both DC know not to plan anything that night as we always get together with the ILs.

merry I'm sure this is a dumb question, but what is gis?

Best get going, have to feed the dog, then head out to ILs 🍒👋 to everyone

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/09/2021 06:52

Furry overlords are yowling breakfast it extremely late.better get up ....

StillUpholding · 12/09/2021 07:15

Just realised I didn’t manage to post yesterday. Apologies, but it looks like you all managed to plod on without me Grin

Hope MrHope is feeling more himself soon Hope.

Shock at ‘D’P’s normalness Zoo, enjoy it and take full advantage!

I originally read your post as “bought a small holding” Hills and thought that was a big thing to drop in so casually Grin. Hope you got more sleep last night.

A swim in the lake sounds very spirit-renewing Honey. Enjoy it.

Did you finish the cushion Willow?

How are you all feeling Sing?

Waves to Red, ED, Hazel, Goth, Yup, Merry, Tidy, Dancing, That, Foxes, Mc, Cute, Flower

Our family fun day was a trip to the park and an ice cream. We had gorgeous weather. I also managed a big pile of ironing, and sorted out all of DD’s old clothes into size piles and arranged them into the drawers that will belong to the baby. Everything smells a bit musty and will need a wash but I don’t want to start too early. We had a painter round for a quote too. Doing all 3 bedrooms, hall/stairs and living room. Can’t wait until it’s all done! Nesting has started.

Today’s plans include food and uniform prep for the first working week back of the school term. I have beef to do a Sunday roast. Not sure how we will be renewing our spirits just yet.

Last day in zone 2 today, but no missions as it’s the weekend.

I'm dying to know what gis is Merry. What a busy day Hazelnutty.

Thanks a for the concern about DH. He is doing okay. He is about to have coffee brought to him.

☕☕☕☕☕☕ In naughty corner. And pastries. 🥐

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/09/2021 07:46

Up well it would be the sort of thing that i would do Grin

There was sleep, still exhausted but it was a loong week with not enough sleep for a lot of it so it is not really surprising. And the heat was the worst.

I renewed my spirit yesterday, I don't do family fun. So today is the get stuff done day. We have workmen in the house sometime this week and it looks like a hoarders house with stuff everywhere atm. I would like to get the lounge back, and the kitchen back, and ideally the frutility back if I can.

There is fresh coffee and tea and soft drinks in the naughty corner. Help yourselves and may the day be as productive as you need.

THATmamaofMANY · 12/09/2021 08:37

Morning Brew

How is it bloody sunday already!

Sorry for lack of posting lately, life keeps getting in the way!

I now have access to this years OU modules so have been printing things and reading introduction stuff. Modules don't start til Oct but could do with getting a head start. Determined not to fall behind this year after spending last year on constant extensions and messing up here and there Blush

zoo glad dp is being useful! Hopefully it will last! Good news on the negative test.

Hills sunday is always a get shit done day here, it is not the day of rest!

Up yay for nesting! I only ever seem to do this after the baby is born. Incase this also happens to you it is a bad idea to start swapping bedrooms at only a couple of days post partum!

merry 10 week old babies are lovely aren't they, bit biased here as our little one is same age!

Ta da
🍂 dryer empty
🍁 baby bottles washed and in steriliser
🍂 sink shon
🍁 recycling out
🍂 dc 5 and 6 up fed changed and dressed
🍁 dc 1 3 and 4 up and eating

Dc1 is bitchin in my kitchen 🙄

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 12/09/2021 09:07

Ooh, thanks for coffee Hills and Hope. I also read "bought a smallholding" and thought "she kept that very quiet!" 😂.

Up sounds like a lovely family fun day yesterday! Hope your decorator can crack on - we couldn't get anyone to even quote for love nor money, which is why I spent so much of May to July up a ladder.

cushion cover complete! Picture later when I manage to get someone to fetch the cushion inner out of the attic room.

Zoo how could you NOT be able to get a Belgian bun? I am outraged on your behalf. When I become PM, Belgian buns will be available for everyone (the special ones from the bakery I love)

Merry I don't know what a gis is either! I am with you on crochet, I can see how knitting works but crochet is just beyond me.

Hope I'm very glad DH has things in hand and you are helping.

Hazel what a full day, you thoroughly deserved that rest on the sofa! Hope dinner with the ILs was fun.

Has anyone heard from @flowerbus at all?

Yup well done on shifting 5 books, I have similar difficulties. They are like old friends. DS1 said a year or so ago "you don't need to keep them for the memory of having read them" and he's right, but they are like old comfortable friends I can sit in silence with, just being. They make no demands of me, but they make my space home.

Honey enjoy the swimming today!

❤️ Updated bullet journal for end of September and created October pages
🧡 Started Hallowe'en and Christmas planning
💛 Finished cushion cover! (Yes, I know I've said that twice)
💚 Brief WhatsApp with DS1 who is stayed here on Wednesday night 👏
💙 WhatsApp with DS2, who is coming for dinner today
💜 Help DH calm down after another phone call with FIL, where FIL accused him of moving papers around (100 miles away) to confuse him, lying about whether he could cope and setting social services onto him when "all his friends say he's fine". Then made threats to change his will.

To do
🥕 Pull and boil beetroot
🧅 Pull, chop and stew rhubarb
🥕 Roast pork for dinner
🧅 Some embroidery
🥕 More October set up in bullet journal
🧅 Hem DS3's second pair of trousers
🥕 Check DS3 has shirts for the week

Willow set up october in the bullet journey?! But is it only just September. Crikey it is moving fast already Shock I need to consider what i will need.

merryhouse · 12/09/2021 10:14

Hazel, hope, Willow

a karate outfit is called a gi (hard g, to rhyme roughly with me)

I'm never entirely sure of the best way to indicate the plural in written form Grin

merryhouse · 12/09/2021 10:15

oh and I love this about books

They make no demands of me, but they make my space home.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 12/09/2021 10:19

Hills I need to see the monthly spread as far ahead as the diary is booking, or I get lost. I know it's barely September - only the 12th today - but I need to be able to see to half term!

Sorry DC1 is making himself felt this morning, That and that Back To School has not led to Much Resting For Mum. Will it improve over coming weeks, do you think?

I missed something off my to do list
👃 Wash Stinklehound, who has rolled in patch of silage that was 5 months under the paddling pool and smells awful.

THATmamaofMANY · 12/09/2021 10:30

Hopefully it will improve willow this week included an inset day, a dentist trip, a birthday and a sickness bug. So none of that helped with my relaxing!

StillUpholding · 12/09/2021 10:37

Star for OU prep That. I think you had a pretty good excuse last year. I’ve no idea how you do it all. Will remember the swapping bedrooms advice. Grin

Bet it took a lot for DH to not say “fine change the will, you’re on your own” Willow. Hope you’ve managed to sufficiently calm him and it hasn’t ruined the day. We’ve hit on lucky with this painter. He’s a friend of the family and, while we’ll have to wait until early November, we know he’s good and we were pleasantly surprised with the quote.

I managed to battle through the keeping books thing when I Marie-Kondoed the place. I rarely re-read anything, and I think it helped that when we moved we put them all in a cupboard rather than on display, so they weren’t a big miss anyway when they went. We still have a collection waiting to be read and a few old favourites that I won’t get rid of. Otherwise I mainly read on my kindle and pass a proper book on as soon as it’s read.

I had a burst of energy this morning and have some ta Das:
🧼 tidied up and wiped out remaining two cupboards in utility room, after doing the main larder last week.
🧼 decluttered lots of crap from utility bench and floor
🧼 wiped down bench, WM, TD and dehumidifier, as well as the doors and window frame
🧼 hoovered and mopped utility floor
🧼 set off DW load of cleaning basins, and little used cooking things that had got a bit dusty

It looks like a new room. I’ve put it off for ages and only took about 40 ninky tea.

Also:
✅ LOL
✅ clean washing carried upstairs
✅ washed breakfast things
✅ Played with DD
✅ changed DD’s bed
✅ s&s

To do:
Shower and get dressed
Ironing
Bags and food prep
Act as sous chef to DH while he sorts the roast
Take DD to adventure playground as promised

OP posts:
StillUpholding · 12/09/2021 10:38

WTF. Ninky tea is minutes. Obviously Confused

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 12/09/2021 11:03

Up 🤣 your phone may not produce as many typos as zoo’s but when it does they’re hilarious 🤣

Had a day of absolutely fuck all yesterday, except some maths. Which I suppose I could class as CPD. 🤣

Slept till ten this morning and don’t feel as unwell as yesterday morning, but still utterly unmotivated. Which is a problem when I really should get ready for the week ahead and at least get DD1 to start her revision she’s been set for history and science. And DS needs to do his scout badge stuff.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 12/09/2021 11:22

🤣🤣 Ninky Tea 🤣🤣

I'm adding that one to the list. Things are not as Pontypridd here as I might have feared - DH has taken DS3 to buy smart shoes - but I suspect the living room will be a bit seagulls by bedtime!
