StillUpholding · 29/08/2021 15:23

Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Arm stints? Wall press ups? You're speaking a different language Smile

Can I get a sticker for going to the dentist? The hygienist was brilliant actually My teeth were cleaned thoroughly and it wasn't too painful either. £60 it cost me. Eye wateringly painful. Grin

Ugh at limit diet. It's got to point where I've given up. Sucks all the joy out of cooking. There was a time I used to love cooking but having to cook 2 separate meals every day has left me feeling done for.

Ta-da
Everything on my to do list plus extras like cleaning bathroom

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/09/2021 21:07

I on press downs.. ups are an issue. Controlled downs are where i am starting.

I popped into the main office for a quick 5 min assessment job on a thing, got sucked in and escaped an hour and half later. On a plus note half off a rebuild has been done.

Apparently the bikes have long gone past us.

And school seems to think i will have influence over ds and his study at A level. They are completely bonkers considering how well that worked at GCSE. They will not like my attitude at parents evening that is for sure. Hmm

GoingGoingGoth · 10/09/2021 21:45

Ah exercise, I remember that

It got even better later on, apparently it’s my job to think up all the meals. I think I heard DH flinch in the other room at that point.

They’re both walking on eggshells now and he hasn’t done anything wrong Grin

If anyone wants me I’ll be in the naughty corner hitting the gin.

MrsTidyHouse · 10/09/2021 22:50

Understairs cupboard straightened out.

Also living-room. All ready for paperwork and laundry tomorrow. Each time I tidy it's just that little bit easier than the time before. Still struggling to declutter anything.

merryhouse · 10/09/2021 23:34

[small voice] what does a sniper carry then?

(my childhood obsessions did not involve violence of any kind)

halfhope · 10/09/2021 23:45

Possibly a rifle merry - and you shouldn't be able to see a sniper anyway because they hide. I've been watching too many thrillers!

halfhope · 10/09/2021 23:47

Husband burned pan of rice and then I spent the evening fixing the u bend on the half sink which was FULL of rice.

😤

YupIHave · 11/09/2021 00:23

Merry, they carry a sniper rifle. Made specifically for, er, sniping.

Halfhope. I've burnt rice lots of time in the past. I usually left it soak. These days I cook rice in the microwave. Poor you, having to take the rice out of the u-bend.

Redsquirrel5 · 11/09/2021 00:58

Basmati is the way to go with rice. Rinse twice then cook with the lid on and try not to stir.

What a muddled day.
Quite nice but not very productive. BF and another person from the village who came unexpectedly.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/09/2021 06:18

I can't do push ups
I would kill anyone that filled my u Bend burnt rice
The end

Oh and dd2 sociology teacher, whom had Thursday was off yesterday and her tutors has just let slip to me he has covid.11/2 in a room with windows shut but door open she's now at meltdown about to drop

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/09/2021 07:44

Tada
Scrolled on phone an hourprior to last post)
Made to do list
Got off lazy arse and implemented it..

Fed cats
Wash on
Harpic lav
Cleaned my bedroom windows
Demould frames
Soak the "grate" bits(bits that windows close into as black and furry)
Start tidying my room
Sort thru boxes /bags in corner
Empty another box.full stuff don't fit dd2,but might if loses few lbs(aka slows comfort eating..deffo has now back at school, barely eating so these will refit shortly)
Fold it all and put back in box, removing stray bits crap that added along the way
Sort DD left test and supervise doing it

Clean toaster tray as burnt toast smell eminating from it thanks to the excessive crumbs and don't want it getting the smoke detector all over excited🤣

Next up
Check results(750)
Make breakfast
Return to my room

I then gave unenviable task of sorting black mould under the stairs (mainly on tiled floor/base walks it seems)which has infringed into overflow food plastic drawers causing rusty tins and mould on cardboard boxes, plus all the games are in that cupboard...on a plus I touched a game and it wiped off,so least not everything will need to be binned....

Redsquirrel5 · 11/09/2021 07:51

MrsTidy I have the same difficulty but if you get a little bit done it is a win in my book. I have some in a box to do and I am going to try and do that today. I picked it up from around the bedroom and gathered it together so I could tackle it another day when it wasn’t so daunting.

I slept all night, yeah! I am struggling to keep my eyes open. Plan to do some home bleugh this weekend oh and the ironing.

GoingGoingGoth · 11/09/2021 07:59

Zoo oh hell, fingers crossed she hasn’t caught it (and that the teacher will be ok)

I love our microwave rice cooker, serious game changer on the cleaning side. We have rice so much more now.

About to head out to crochet class, can’t work out if it’s going to rain as I’d rather not take my coat. It’s a nice 40 minute walk from home
(For anyone interested, I’m introducing half treble AND working in front loop only and we’ll be making a hat.)

Done
S&S
Cat & birds fed
Laundry on
5 min tidy in lounge

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/09/2021 09:31

I'd love to be able to crochet to a pattern Goth my skill level is still at struggle to make the sides stay straight stage I'm afraid(not sure what stitch I'm doing either)...

Negative test result

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/09/2021 10:09

Bookcase cleared, wiped and restacked.i love books, and find exceptionally hard to cull so need more bookshelving in my room...

Time for a quick break

Redsquirrel5 · 11/09/2021 10:56

Goodness Zoo you have done loads. I am the same with books I find it very hard to get rid of any except paperbacks that I know I am not going to read again. I am also trying to do 1 in 1 out and restricting self to not buy any except paperbacks but failed last week. I bought next book in series and a book on Clematis and the Hummingbird baking one that I wanted when it came out but it was £16:99 then. I got them for £2 and £2:49. I ‘need’ the Clematis one as three have died so I have done something wrong and think I have discovered I haven’t planted deep enough plus they give a tip for putting a piece of pipe or small flowerpot next to it and water into that not on actual plant. Info in case anyone planting Clematis.
The cake book for Macmillan Coffee morning. That is my excuse!

🤗 I fell back 😴 and woke at 10:30am that is 9 hrs sleep the most I have had for weeks. Feel a lot better so going to jump up and crack on after a cup of tea.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 11/09/2021 11:39

Wow zoo you are so effective today. I love a neatly folded drawer, it brings joy to my heart. I like the idea of your self-care baskets too. Sorry about mould under stairs, I'd wipe the games but get rid of all the food (but I am also paranoid about poisoning people accidentally). Hope DD feels better now her LFT is negative.

Up how lovely to have another little girl on the way! Glad you got an afternoon nap.

Goth I too feel your pain re: "nothing to eat". It drives me insane. I have passed food planning over to DH while I am immobile and have retired to a safe distance to observe. Hope crochet class is going well, I keep saying I will teach myself to crochet but I have so many embroidery, sewing and knitting projects I've not finished it seems daft to start something else just now.

Honey hurrah for getting enough done to give you a free weekend! Hope the hairdresser this morning has made you feel better.

Sing glad you found a chemistry tutor for DS, sorry you are not feeling physically great.

Hope I nominate you and ED exercise prefects. You can exercise while the rest of us sit in the naught corner with cake, observing your fine technique. Ok? 🤣 Well done on not killing DH for burning rice and blocking the sink. I'm afraid I have resorted to instant microwave rice, there are fewer ways it can go wrong.h

ED blimey, that's a full on day. I'd have collapsed on the sofa a lot sooner.

Awards Yup an "I was brave at the dentist" medal🎖

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/09/2021 11:54

Good morning. It is hike in the hills day. So just delegating some stuff and running around like a headless chicken for a mad 10 mins before i have to leave.

Have a good one!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 11/09/2021 12:34

Ta da today:
❤️ Flu jab achieved
🧡 Christmas crackers ordered (sorry... I want seed bomb ones this year and they sell out insanely fast if you don't buy them the minute you see them)
💛 Bit more stitching of cushion cover for attic sofa (assuming I ever get up there again)
💚 Reviewed vegetables in fridge with DH (he sees them as a garnish. I want to be able to eat vegetables!)
💙 Tell DH in words of one syllable how to clean and disinfect the kitchen bin. I don't understand how he has got to nearly 50 without knowing that.
💜 Vacated music room to allow DS3 to drum
🤎 Considered ordering a stocking filler craft project tracker for DD - on the one hand, Stationery! Otoh, a tenner?

I'm going to finish this damn cushion cover today if it kills me. Stitching the patch onto the cover is taking nearly as long as embroidering the patch did in the first place!

halfhope · 11/09/2021 13:03

You can exercise while the rest of us sit in the naught corner with cake, observing your fine technique. Ok? Grin I'm fine with that.

Hills hope hike goes well.

I did a 20 minute HIIT workout this morning. Still working on my side plank in the down time

halfhope · 11/09/2021 13:05

Well done on not killing DH for burning rice and blocking the sink - it appears his mind is foggy due to low grade depression so we are working on that.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 11/09/2021 13:52

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that Hope. Glad you are there to support him in finding help for it.

I think my DH may have been swapped by aliens. He is hanging washing out and sharing opinions on whether we should get new pegs! I am looking at some that look like paperclips, made from recycled marine plastics.

I have made lunches to last until Wednesday. DH has stewed blackberries. The last of the rhubarb will be crumbled today or tomorrow. The beetroot should be boiled and pickled too.

I love the end of September and the feeling of preparing for the autumn.

halfhope · 11/09/2021 14:06

Increasing exercise seems to help willow so we are hoping that as that's what the Dr suggested the last time. It seems to cause him not to be 'with it' and a bit zoned out.

halfhope · 11/09/2021 14:07

Sorry I meant 'we are doing that' not hoping.

Love the sound of your autumn cooking. I have a butternut squash for soup and buttermilk for wholemeal soda bread ❣️
