Fledglings Soar Calmly into September - the FlyLady Thread

Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Morning hills. Productive start to the day.

Sing the weather has changed up here. Perhaps the autumn has brought slightly colder weather and that's causing your aches.

halfhope · 10/09/2021 08:34

yup sorry to hear about dp's Mum. You've got a lot on at the moment. Morning red and that.

halfhope · 10/09/2021 08:37

red we are trying to avoid the 900 bicycles! Watching road closures and plotting routes to tween footie matches for the weekend!

StillUpholding · 10/09/2021 08:56

Morning Brew

I fell asleep at about 8am last night and pretty much slept through! Had quite a productive day yesterday:
✅ filled DW with salt, ran it on empty as instructed, then eventually got to use it. Yay!
✅ tidied and dusted DD’s room, decluttered a few toys.
✅ packaged up some returns
✅ sorted home insurance
✅ sorted online account for new energy provider
✅ checked bank accounts, Christmas budget etc
✅ booked very popular Santa Claus visit
✅ ordered some stocking fillers for DD
✅ sorted pile of random paperwork
✅ tidied living room
✅ put away clean clothes and the few new items of maternity clothes that I’m keeping.

Hurrah for negative tests Dancing.

Thanks for all the reassurance everyone. I’m not really bothered about putting on weight, I know it’s normal and expected, just got a shock that I seem to have underestimated my dress size and some of the things that did fit were very unflattering. There are two dresses that I really like and feel comfortable in though, and some leggings that should see me through.

Grin at your DS Honey.

This mornings ta Das so far:
Got DD to school on time

Off for a hair appointment this morning, that should perk me up.

Today is date night (I’m being abandoned for a work do) and decluttering of car/purse. Mission is to check kitchen cleaning supplies.

Happy flying everyone, it’s almost the weekend Smile

Sorry to hear about your DP’s mum Yup Flowers

Morning everyone ☕

Yup- sorry to hear your Dp mum is unwell Flowers

YupIHave · 10/09/2021 09:02

It was oppressively humid all day yesterday and night. Overnight rain has made things somewhat cooler but it's still humid. Very uncomfortable feeling. Would love a full blown thunderstorm (in the safety of my home)

Ta-da:
LoL
Washed up breakfast stuff
School run
Recycling out

To-do
Today's Onerous Task: file paperwork away
Dentist
Pick up parcel
Small shop
Zoom meeting for work (even though it's my day off)

hill could you not sleep? At least you were productive. I can't remember the last time I had a pie. Hope you're not too tired at work.

halfhope where you off to?

Thanks everyone for good wishes for DP's mum.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/09/2021 09:14

Sorry to the sleep deprived. I’ve actually slept a healthy amount for 2 nights running at last.

Work today then lol after work and then try to get more house stuff done over the wkd. At the minute I am feeling like flying and working aren’t very compatible but that might be because it’s September and I’ve not got my sea legs at work yet and because I’m barely a fledgling at home let alone grown wings.

MrsTidyHouse · 10/09/2021 09:48

sing Thanks so much. I'd like a look at a couple of websites, as I already have some literacy and numeracy workbooks.

Today (and possibly the weekend) needs to be about sorting out cupboards and shelves. Particularly the understairs cupboard, which seems to be the key to a peaceful existence. Atm, there is a six-foot stack of melon boxes and I've forgotten why. At least their contents are not scattered about the floor.

This miserable weather yesterday and today, along with the shorter evenings, makes me feel I'm starting to batten down for winter. Central heating on for a couple of hours, even on the sunnier days. Lots of berries now in the garden for stirring into yogurt.

YupIHave · 10/09/2021 10:35

Berries in yogurt sounds lovely!

I decided to tackle some more onerous tasks today.

Ta-da
✅Paperwork filed, recycled or shredded
✅Made breast screening appointment
✅Contacted energy supplier to book engineer as meter not working
✅Washed up breakfast stuff
✅Swept kitchen floor

halfhope · 10/09/2021 10:41

Yup - I'm not heading anywhere except to get ds to a football match. Live very far north in the UK. Well done on getting the filing and shredding done. I did that the other day and feel so much on top of things. And good luck with the dentist!

Honeybadger - just do what you can at home and concentrate on your sealegs. You can't do everything and you need more sleep so just take it easy. I fell behind with work and got that back on track before doing a crisis clean (and I get enough sleep)

halfhope · 10/09/2021 10:43

Mrstidy - our central heating is kicking on too up here. And it's getting darker in the mornings and evenings. Definite autumn feel. We are roughly ten days from the official start of autumn in this hemisphere - brrrr.

halfhope · 10/09/2021 10:44

Enjoy your hair appointment UP and thanks so much for keeping us on track.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 10/09/2021 12:06

Up it is upsetting when you are not the size your head tells you you are, but you are growing a Stilletto (see what I did there? 🤣)! Hope your hair appointment makes you feel better and you bought some lovely baby things. Will you be finding out the sex, or having a lovely surprise? Thanks for keeping us on track, if DH is abandoning you for a works do I suggest a date with a cup of tea, your book and ALL of the sofa!

Honey hope you find your sealegs soon. None of mine would have been able to button their lip over the obvious point that he can't be a sniper if he's holding a revolver, either, nor DH nor my DDad! It would cause at least two of them actual pain holding that in, because it is So Wrong.

Yup very sorry to hear about DP's mum, sending best wishes for her recovery and for you holding the fort in the meantime.

Urgh at cyclists and lost posts and recalcitrant pastry and understairs cupboards.

@flowerbus you've gone very quiet - has minibus made an early appearance?

Thought I posted yesterday, but apparently not.
Yes Ta Da:
❤️ Plumber finally sorted drains 🎉
🧡 Did some writing
💛 Booked DD a flu jab
💚 Had minor heart attack when DD's school rang at 2.30pm, thought it was the wheels coming off again. But no, it was the new SENCo who seems very switched on and with a clear idea of Dd's needs. Phew.
💙 Listened to DH have stupid conversation with the surgery: "why have you booked a flu jab?" "Because you sent me a message asking me to". "Oh. Why did we do that?" "Because Medical Conditions a, b and c". "Oh. Are you a new patient?" "Only 16.5 years" 🤦

And while I was typing that, someone else has rung again to say he was booked in error and CAN'T have the jab. FFS.

Ta Da:
💜 Went back to bed for a nap after I fell asleep.in my breakfast

That's about it.

🍒👋 to everyone, hope this endless week closes soon!

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/09/2021 14:04
GoingGoingGoth · 10/09/2021 14:09

Flying (and posting) is hit and miss this week.

Teen is doing my head in, she’s home Friday afternoons for private study but that seems to involve walking around the house sighing.
This week it was over food, she’s hungry but everything we have is “boring”

Honestly I almost started channelling my mother!

She never asks for anything when we go shopping and she has such a limited palate it’s no wonder she’s bored

halfhope · 10/09/2021 14:24

Sorry Goth but you've made me chuckle with your description of dd 😁

SingToTheSky · 10/09/2021 14:26

That sounds ever so familiar goth 🤣

DS has done some of his work but we are a bit behind as I’m not feeling too well now. 😣 And I had the phone call too (which was excellent, going to start DS with chemistry tuition ASAP!)

halfhope · 10/09/2021 14:30

zoo - I've put apple crumble and custard (luminous yellow no lumps) in the naughty corner.

EssentiallyDisorganised · 10/09/2021 14:57

Goth, I so get that feeling, limited palate, doesn't feel like anything, sighs, "no, I'm OK", more sighs.

Well, it has been a busy day today.

HIIT video (Hope - I need to look at that one you posted earlier, I have been doing Lucy Wyndham Reed videos)
Took DD to station
Popped into Waitrose
Arrived home to find kitchen fitter on doorstep (was due on Monday)
Talked to kitchen fitter
Put 1 x LOL on
Changed plans for the morning
Blitzed bathroom including:

Scrub toilet, sink, bath, tiles, shelves, windowsill, tiles behind shower.
Empty storage unit, bin empties, wash unit
Clean floor
Wipe down bin, toilet brush holder
Replace unit and rearrange everything in it.
Repot two small plants which live in there and had outgrown their old ones.

Kitchen fitter finished
Hung out washing
Lunch
Sorted meter readings, changing supplier
Checked electoral roll letter (its weird having DS on it now)
Fetched a few more small baskets of kitchen stuff from shed to put away
Moved washing to dryer as raining now
Flopped on sofa watching Doctors

halfhope · 10/09/2021 16:12

ed I did a 10 minute arm stint and a 5 minute abs. Need to improve pressups and side plank.

Starting slowly...

TheHoneyBadger · 10/09/2021 17:00

Congratulations on your drains Willow - yes, it would have been painful for ds to let that pass Grin

Another fist bump from here Goth - mine is, 'there's no food in the house', which means I've already eaten everything that I can just grab and eat and there is now only food that might actually require me to put in any preparation whatsoever Hmm

Great list ED

Half I feel fairly confident that I couldn't even do a press up currently - might start from scratch again doing counter press ups whenever I'm in the kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil or something. Well done.

3 classes of year 7s in a row today then made myself stay at work for an extra hour and a half to get everything ready for Monday so I could have a proper weekend off. I have hairdresser coming in the morning and swimming on Sunday and plenty of housework that needs doing and I fancy a bit of mental space from work. Then home, find ds passed out on sofa still holding his phone, walked dog and got changed and now I'm done for a while.

I'm opening the bar in the naughty corner in case Zoo or anyone else wants something to wash down their pudding with. I'm having a beer.

halfhope · 10/09/2021 17:03

honeyBadger - I'm on wall press-ups 🤣

TheHoneyBadger · 10/09/2021 17:07

@halfhope

honeyBadger - I'm on wall press-ups 🤣
That's way less intimidating then Grin
StillUpholding · 10/09/2021 18:01

I struggled with flying and working at first Honey, but now I accept it’s just my morning and evening routines that get done on work days (LOL, dishes, s&s, quick tidy round). Anything else is a bonus. Star for staying at work. Youll be so pleased with yourself over the weekend!

Grin at Stiletto Willow. It’s another girl which DD is very happy about Smile. I was thinking about leaving it as a surprise but DH wanted to know and I was pretty sure it was a girl anyway so went for it. So annoying about your DH’s jab. I’m having a movie night with DD instead. Disney and popcorn in our pjs already.

Impressed with your exercising ED and Hope. A wall press-up even feels beyond me today. I’ve been doing quite a bit of walking (thanks school run!) but keep meaning to try out some pregnancy yoga.

Goth you should be applauded for only almost channeling your mother. Mine is only 4 and I have already morphed into mine!

Hope you feel better soon Sing.

I got all my morning routine and a little bit of ironing done before heading off for my hair appointment. I was organised and immediately booked in the next one. Also filled up with petrol and did a pop up shop on the way home. I was full of good intentions for my last afternoon home alone, but what I actually did was have a lovely indulgent afternoon nap!
