Fledglings Soar Calmly into September - the FlyLady Thread

StillUpholding · 29/08/2021 15:23

Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

SingToTheSky · 09/09/2021 11:46

Gradually catching up with the thread.

Dancing so sorry about DD’s school experiences this week :(

Up you are not a whale! You are growing a PERSON!!!

Tidy I see what you mean about the wasted time (and the frustration over the useless app - DD1’s school is so bloody inconsistent with the way they set work!). Could you find some worksheets for them related to the maths topics they’re doing at school, or revision for what they did last year? I can recommend some websites if you like.

French toast with strawberries and cinnamon sugar scoffed, best get on with stuff!

halfhope · 09/09/2021 11:56

UP - just to echo what sing has said. You are growing a person and have extra blood volume and fluid.

EssentiallyDisorganised · 09/09/2021 12:35

Half it is vaguely like being at work for me.

THATmamaofMANY · 09/09/2021 12:45

Playing catch up

This week so far has been chaotic to say the least, i had been looking forward to relaxing when the dc went back to school. All i am doing is running around!

SingToTheSky · 09/09/2021 13:59

🐜 ibody test done. Embarrassingly I spilled blood on the box, it looked a bit crime scene ish.

Chemistry and maths done. DD1 is showering, I suspect to avoid science 🤣 she did rotate the DW after cooking though without being asked. And she’s reluctantly sent a message to her art teacher too.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/09/2021 14:21

thatsnap
Up your body is doing amazing stuff right now.be proud of it and kind to yourself💖

Redsquirrel5 · 09/09/2021 16:34

Just catching up. You have all been so busy and make me feel guilty☺️

I had lunch out with a friend who is finding her man friend a bit much so we are going to have ET days ‘Escape Tname’. He is very nice but goes around every day and asks for lifts a lot as he struggles with the bus and no longer drives. It goes over several days. I suggested telling him one day for errands.
Then BF joined us for tea in the afternoon and it was lovely and warm.

It has just started raining and I haven’t been out this afternoon. Damn.

I have been wasting time all day and now I am annoyed with myself.

I am not sleeping well so I’m tired in the day. Maybe it is the weather.it is very humid.

Dancing I hope she is ok. It takes a while for some of them to adjust. I guess we understand that more now as we feel overwhelmed by lots of people.

Talking of which we had 900 cyclists in our village last night. They are doing a charity cycle and about half stopped at the pub and he ran out of lager and cider.😵 I went collecting glasses as they were running out of clean ones.

Going to nip off and do something and I will catch up with the rest of you later.🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒🤣

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/09/2021 17:42

Tour of Britain at some point this week apparently. Roads to be avoided apparently. No idea of the route or times though.

Mostly i am glad to have my car fixed and looking forwards to bacon sandwiches for tea.

Dancingtomusic · 09/09/2021 19:54

Hills - bacon sandwiches sound lovely yum. That not good they hvnt released the route yet.

Sing- you are doing great hon! With all rona stuff. Bloodbath

red- i would join you in a heartbeat!
honey- thank you. Hope u have a nice time with your sister.

Zoo- just the nose ones sound so much better. Hope you are recovering from all tje walking you are doing.
Half- 🤣 i told my 5yr and 6yr old, lets do a science experiment! I did talk about lets see the paper colour change. Only dd was interested what happened after 30mins.

Thankfully both kids and myself are negative.
Both of my ds best friends have tested positive and their dads. Both groups of parents have decided to keep their kids are home to isolate.

I am abit concerned i might not have done the tests properly so I will do all 3 again before they go school.

Sorry everyone I havent read through the thread properly today. I have done 3 loads of laundry which declined to dry properly outside. I am getting closer to the holy grail of having a set of uniform for each day of the week.
I think the kids have fallen asleep! I dont believe it! Its not 8pm yet!

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/09/2021 20:04

tbh Dancing they probably have. i have not come across it in passing other than to be warned it is happening. I should probably hunt it out but feeling very meh about it tbh.

I need to go do things. They are not the things that i want to be doing. why is this often the case?!

halfhope · 09/09/2021 20:05

Oh I'd say you did them properly dancing. Glad they are negative. Well done on the laundry. House still clean here. Trying to keep on top of things.

halfhope · 09/09/2021 20:06

Tour of Britain is up here on Sunday!

halfhope · 09/09/2021 20:07

It's quite humid up here red. I like the idea of an escape day.

YupIHave · 09/09/2021 21:02

Sorry for disappearing again. It's been a bit stressful. DP's mum is very seriously ill and he has been gone to see her. It's about 2.5 hours away. Mean time, I am getting the basics done here. DS has been pretty good considering his dad is away, granny is sick and he started back at school. Only one meltdown. DP away till Sunday.

I am trying really hard to keep the house fairly tidy as a messy house impacts on my well being. Did a quick tidy up this evening and also my Today's Onerous Task was to open up official mail eg HRMC which has been sitting there for a while. Gulp. Anyway, paid all bills I needed to. I have asked one company to send me email but they insist on sending me paper.

Sorry for a drive by. Wave to everyone. (DS is howling like a cat right now! Wanting attention) Smile

YupIHave · 09/09/2021 21:10

Cats don't hole do they? They yowl?

TheHoneyBadger · 09/09/2021 21:11

Humid here too. I've stuck the fan back on. Ds and I had a pizza to celebrate his first day back at school because I'm lazy and then both promptly fell asleep for a couple of hours. Hope we manage to sleep as need to be up early for school shenanigans.

I've cleaned kitchen sink, got all rubbish and recycling out for bin collection tomorrow, did quick clean of bathroom and tidy of lounge and cleaned the kitchen sink and wiped down sides. Also some school work stuff obviously. I was about to say that's not much but it's a lot more than I was doing prior to joining the thread so it's still a win and of course all fed and no one dead is winning anyway.

Sympathies to the poorly and the making a human being - be kind to yourselves.

zoo how did dd cope with back to school? Did I miss it? Ds came home pretty pleased with himself for only getting one warning which was apparently because their English teacher gave them the sentence, "The sniper was carrying a revolver." to which ds said well he obviously wasn't a sniper then was he? Which is a fair point but I'm guessing the warning was for calling out or his tone of voice or something but he'd find it hard to resist correcting that error.

I was proud to hear that instead of then going into behaving worse because he got a warning that he thought was unfair he went on to prove himself and that he did belong in top set and was praised for his excellent contributions (correction on what weapon a sniper used not included obviously). He's managed to keep an open mind about the guy which is huge progress for ds who last year once he decided he didn't like a teacher would slam down the walls and that was that.

Year 10 so have to try even harder to keep him on track and get some positivity into him to get through the next couple of years and achieve what he's capable of rather than just being a negative little ball of testosterone.

More full on day of teaching tomorrow. Hope my stamina returns soon.

YupIHave · 09/09/2021 21:11

*howl Hmm

YupIHave · 09/09/2021 21:14

Ds came home pretty pleased with himself for only getting one warning which was apparently because their English teacher gave them the sentence, "The sniper was carrying a revolver." to which ds said well he obviously wasn't a sniper then was he?

Grin

DS would have said the same thing tbf.

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/09/2021 03:40

ds does the same thing with teachers. He has one teacher who he describes as the worst in the school. But as A level is stuck with them for 2 years. We had the conversation about having to find a way at GCSE, but also again in terms of this teacher. My question when he said it was "but do they get the results" to which he answered yes.

So far teen has settled into school ok.

The heat and humidity have been causing me massive pastry issues, And even at 3am it is still really urgh. But it has to be done. So i am about to get up and make the last pie for the freezer. Going to be stupid tired by 8am but can be in bed by 5pm if needed so yeah. Hoping i have enough time to get everything through the oven before work. Fingers crossed.

Redsquirrel5 · 10/09/2021 07:19

Just lost my bloody post.

Redsquirrel5 · 10/09/2021 07:26

Dancing you would be very welcome.

Hills just google it is on - route and times.

Honey I think that was a reasonable interruption unless shouting out.

Hope look out for the 900 bicycles too.

I’m tired now and want to go back to sleep. Awake since 5am.

THATmamaofMANY · 10/09/2021 07:26

Morning all Brew

SingToTheSky · 10/09/2021 07:47

Yup good to see you, so sorry about DP’s mum being ill :(

:o Honey well indeed he’s not wrong. DH apparently would’ve been exactly the same at school too. Some teachers really don’t like being corrected.

Very sleepy this morning and the aches are setting in I think. Feel a bit fluey-achy rather than fibro-achy IYSWIM. Ugh.
