Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

Goth- i would love to join a yarn group, can we start one in the naughty corner.

Cute- if I was organised, I would be washing the dishes rather than sitting on the sofa....procrastinating about ringing the school again to sort after school club 🤦‍♀️

Redsquirrel5 · 06/09/2021 14:24

Welcome Cute. We don’t worry too much about the getting dressed thing. I get dressed mostly but don’t put shoes on. I have bare feet in summer and UGGs in winter with the occasional pair of pumps in between. I only have one pair of lace ups and that is my trainers which the sole has come away from. Oh and a pair of Rocket Dogs which I only wear occasionally. This is why we have a ‘ naughty corner’.

Good idea Dancing I need to crochet a scarf. I didn’t get very far on my challenge because I had no more DK easy wash wool. I have now as DH went to the wrong M&S and it is near a Hobbycraft shop( grounds from DH) but I was very, very good and went in, Up the stairs and straight for wool then down to the counter and out. I bought two lots of wool one lovely bright colours since they are extending it to Women’s Refuges. I guess I could do a child’s one as well to catch up.
♥️Ring the school do the dishes and then do something for you.
That excellent job on first day. Reward self at some stage before they come home.
Goth sounds lovely. I do a bit of crochet and knitting but just basic.
Sing have an extra week considering what is going on or at least today.
Zoo that is annoying but they should know better the first week back. Things go wrong or someone hasn’t put it in their new diary. They should return your call and re- schedule though that is not on.🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Hills great organising. We only have a small freezer so I don’t batch cook much. Sometimes Spaghetti Bol or meatball. Occasionally soup if I make too much now the fledglings have gone. Sweet potato and squash is one of my favourites along with Jewish chicken soup and Curried Parsnip with cumin.

I am lying on my bed because I had to go back to bed for an hour as I had a terrible night of not sleeping. I had to be up early so didn’t take my meds and then DH took his time. However I had some of home bleugh done before I had to go out.😇 bathroom and bed aired and made. Kitchen worktops.
While out we called in to farm type supermarket which was busy as it is Farm Auction day opposite at the Mart. So we have spatchcock Jerk chicken and Lamb mince which they minced for us. I fancy Shepherd’s Pie but they had lovely aubergines so I bought one and might make Mousaka instead. There was huge T bones. They now have Lakes ice cream including vegan Thunder and Lightening which might have jumped in the basket on wheels. So shopping done too. DH mentioned a proper large supermarket shop🙄 he mentioned it in August too. I have a basket of charity stuff in my room waiting to go. I wish I would get back to driving properly. Perhaps BF would like a trip and a mooch now the GC smells are going to Nursery some days.
Foxes I had something to say to you but have now forgotten but hang in there Rome wasn’t built in a day. Lovely to see you.

Dancingtomusic · 06/09/2021 14:28

I would like to award myself the 'bad mum award' - as I was not fast enough to book the kids into school clubs- all the spaces are gone. (Shit)

Most annoying is the receptionist I had a full long conversation about clubs and booking them....a has done a full 180 and sounds like she has no idea we previously had a conversation.
I will stay calm....i will stay calm...and not let it get to me.....

Our school gave 5 days to book the clubs but I think they were fully booked in 1 day.

How long does your school give to book clubs?

halfhope · 06/09/2021 14:33

oh Dancing there's no bad mum award only tired mum awards. I'm always rushing to book stuff when I think about it only to realise that everyone else has been there before me. It's they same when I go to buy trousers in Marks and Spencers - every other woman my size and leg length has been there first!

And breathe.....

is this for the October break Dancing?

Dancingtomusic · 06/09/2021 14:44

Half- thank you.
After school clubs, 3-4pm
Tae kwon do
Fully booked.

Receptionist is going to ask if they can squeeze my 2 into monday after school club.

I am really rubbish.

Red- thanks i will speed wash up before i pick up kids in 10mins.
Your food shopping sounds lovely!

SingToTheSky · 06/09/2021 15:15

You’re not rubbish dancing

I have been upstairs for a while so as not to kill anyone 😳 I get so grumpy when having to isolate (even though at other times I’m a homebody) - guess it’s the not knowing what’s happening as well. Stressful.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/09/2021 17:02

dancing you need to be kinder to yourself.ypu wouldn't award us bad mum certificates if one of us didn't get a club booked, would you?!
Cute getting dressed is subjective.many if us don't get dressed to shoes.i class any clothing as dressed even if I slept in it 🤣
Hope trousers are same her,and pants.why does everyone want my size knickers??
Sing nothing wrong quiet time, and pacing yourself is always sensible

Busy day
DD survived.now full of attitude and arsey I've got her lateral flow tests as galavanting unmasked with the masses

HazelNuttyElf · 06/09/2021 17:56

zoo 💐 for you
cute welcome! Start small, add one thing at a time as far as flying goes and you will notice a difference. It will start to come naturally as well.
dancing 🤞 they will let them join the clubs. It doesn't make you a bad mum for the spots filling up so fast, it just means they don't have enough spaces. I'm sure there's others who will miss out too.
Sing I hope DH gets better soon, sounds like he's already on the mend, and that everyone else's tests come back negative
that well done on getting your 2 out today with everything they need, enjoy the quiet while they're gone.

Ta Das so far (just gone 10:30am):
🍁 Drank 2 cups of coffee - very important, so no one will get killed today 🤣
🍁 Cooked DH breakfast for the week
🍁 Talked DS through cooking fried eggs this morning. Only broke one of the yolks when cracking into the pan, the other stayed whole and was runny, even after flipping. I'm impressed by that actually! He wants to have more eggs tonight for dinner, so he's going to cook everybody's eggs for more practise.
🍁 Started making a list for grocery shopping, haven't got very far though.

To Dos:
😱 Finish making list
😱 Take a shower & get dressed 😳
😱 Go grocery shopping
😱 Bake cupcakes with DS for school tomorrow
😱 Get gel on my nails
😱 Make homemade Mac & cheese for lunch, per request from DS (since he didn't get to choose on his birthday yesterday)

I thought there was something else, but not sure what. 🤔
We do need to get the pool down at some point, we haven't actually been in it in about 6 weeks, it's been a weird summer, was hotter earlier than normal, but starting another heat wave.

🍒👋 to everyone

GoingGoingGoth · 06/09/2021 18:04

Dancing brilliant idea, the naughty corner is perfect, as we already have Brew &Cake there. What a disappointment re the after school clubs, I doubt you’re the only one caught out if they went in 1 day

Squirrel once you have the basics the crochet world is your oyster. Everything is just a combination of doubles, trebles and chains.

Just dropping my done list before I go out for a walk

Weekly bleugh
Laundry washed, dried & ironed!
Cat, birds & family fed
Washing up.
Wiped down all the pictures downstairs, but just realised I missed the clocks
Orders posted

SingToTheSky · 06/09/2021 18:12

DS covid positive too, just had the text. Sigh. Looking even more likely that DD1 and I will be too! Sigh.

Not worried - he is absolutely fine other than being sad because he’s desperate to go and spend the rest of his birthday money in the comic shop 🤣

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/09/2021 19:08

Oh no sing

SingToTheSky · 06/09/2021 20:29

Aaaaand now DD1. Just waiting for mine now. She has mixed feelings about not being able to return to school. 🤣

It is a nursery run in a community centre that but tbh it’s looking like we are all positive anyway so we will just keep her off for our isolation period too. DH’s ends two days before ours, as we have been told to go from test date since none of us have any symptoms!

SingToTheSky · 06/09/2021 21:26

Four for four 🤣

THATmamaofMANY · 06/09/2021 21:52

Bloody hell sing

Fwiw given the crowds and chaos at our school this morning i'm guessing we will all have it soon 🙄

Literally feel like i haven't stopped today

Ta da continued
🧺 fed dc at home lunch
🧺 phoned dentist
🧺 phoned gp
🧺 washed and sterilised bottles
🧺 wrapped some presents
🧺 went to opticians
🧺 picked up dc from school
🧺 ironed more uniform
🧺 ran dw again
🧺 made tea
🧺 dc bathed and bed
🧺 tidied LR
🧺 brought in washing

12,000 steps and counting ....

SingToTheSky · 06/09/2021 23:05

Not worried tbh that it’s just the stir craziness I’m dreading 🤣

Feeling very grateful for the vaccine though, we wouldn’t have had a clue we even had it if not for needing tests for other reasons. Bit achy this evening but that’s it. DH is currently ironing school shirts (which obv now aren’t needed yet, but they were already in the wash when we got the results) so he can’t be feeling too awful 🤣 and the Caglets are absolutely fine.

SingToTheSky · 06/09/2021 23:15

Actually my main dilemma is “do I start making the Caglets do schoolwork” 😬🤣

Mc3209 · 06/09/2021 23:37

Sing I am glad to hear you are all keeping well despite the unexpected results. I hope you get the rest of the results soon.
That your day sounds hectic! I hope you are soundly asleep by now.
Cute I am joining in with welcomes!

I can't remember any more personals. I'm sorry.

I've fallen off the thread, oops, but I have been doing flying. I promise 😬 I actually love the app. It really tickles my list ticking spot! I've got morning routine pretty much automated now, evening routine is solid, it's just getting through those zone cleaning lists she has...

THATmamaofMANY · 07/09/2021 00:01

I am still awake 🙄 have just fed and resettled baby

Ta da cont...
🧺 dw on again
🧺 kitchen swept
🧺 kitchen mopped
🧺 last few pots washed
🧺 worktops wiped
🧺 checked dc1 and 2s school bags
🧺 listened to dd read (hours ago but i forgot!)

Sing fingers crossed mild or no symptoms for you all

SingToTheSky · 07/09/2021 00:04

Hey mc I was just wondering where you’d been earlier :)

Must phone the school, nursery and housing association in the morning.

And then prep for an assessment session with a potential new maths pupil in the afternoon, and a 9am Wednesday lesson too. So glad I finally started online teaching 😁😁😁

halfhope · 07/09/2021 00:09

Yes MC I really like the app. I should personalise it. I've added some Organised Mum moments so it's clean sheet Tuesday for me tomorrow

Mc3209 · 07/09/2021 00:16

Looks like there is a whole bunch of us up still 😅
That how is BabyThat doing? How often does he wake up through the night?
Hope I customised mine too, even included self care routine like dry brush, deep hair conditioner etc. I remember you were talking about bathroom cleans, I am pretty rubbish at good S&S, and I just end up cleaning them properly weekly.
Sing how are you finding online teaching?

Dancingtomusic · 07/09/2021 00:19

Thanks guys.

Mc- weldone lovely for getting the morning and evening routines set. How is Mctiny?
Sing- oh no, four of four! The only way you can think of it is a extra week of summer holiday. If the kids uniforn are ready and sorted for next week- you do things you would like this week sing. Hope staying upstairs helped.
Zoo- sending you a hug. Its sounds very difficult juggling teens.
Half- it is annoying when the required size is out of stock.
Hazel- so nice your ds is learning to cook eggs and enjoying it.
Goth- I have never tried crochet. I have a box that can crochet a little tiny rabbit and wadding to fill it up with. I might try it one day.
That- what have to been eating or drinking that gives you so much energy? Kefir? Chia seeds? You are powering through stuff.
Hills- you have epic lists - what were you boiling potatos for this morning?
Red- what was your for your tea today?

Ta das-
Had a lovely time after school with the kids eating icecream and watching a cartoon.
Made pasta with grated cheese for the kids. I had tuna mayo pasta with salad - so healthy- i shocked myself. Dh is very, very grumpy as he has a sorethroat and achey body so didnt want anything to eat.

Has anyone heard from wellies? Hope she is ok?

Dancingtomusic · 07/09/2021 00:33

Mc- you have inspired me, I have the organisedmum app. I have had it over a year and never used it. I wonder if I use the tick box section it might motivate me. I am going to try it tomorrow.

Redsquirrel5 · 07/09/2021 01:39

Dancing I didn’t have anything but a cup of tea and a plain biscuit.

I have felt a bit off today. I had three slices of bread yesterday and I think that is probably it. I went to a quiz with a friend and another I haven’t seen since February 20. We just saw each other for quizzing. She got called away on the second round and has had to take her teen to A&E. He has been playing football tonight and hurt his knee then rang back as he can’t walk. Bet it is cruciate ligament ( sp)
So there was just me for two rounds while first friend took second friend home. We came last but got 20 /20 on one round of shipping forecast areas. My dad would be proud of me. We had the least amount of people in our team in the first place. It was fun and they had a buffet of sandwiches, dips and sausages. I had a little of that about nine. I don’t know what DH ate because he went to the pub.
I didn’t get in until late.

I watched Rich House, Poor House again. Lovely tidy house despite three kids. I love that none of the kids were resentful of the Rich House family. It was some house.

Sing so sorry hope you will all be alright. Bet you are glad you had a jab. Jigsaw, binge watching.

Goth That is good to know. I am quite fast at those stitches so need to find a pattern to guide me for numbers.

Right I think I better go to sleep.

HazelNuttyElf · 07/09/2021 04:28

that you're on fire with those lists!
goth I am impressed by your completing a full cycle of laundry, including ironing
Sing sorry you all tested positive. As for your dilemma, I would start the caglets on some school work, so that they're not behind when they go back, even just some refresher work would help. Nothing to strenuous for you though.
Red quiz night sounds fun, it's good to enjoy yourself, even if you don't win. I love watching Rich House Poor House too, but I have to pull it up on YouTube to watch it here. It's been a while since I've seen any, I wonder if there's any new ones since then 🤔

Ta Das:
🌻 Showered & dressed
🌻 Completed shopping list
🌻 Went grocery shopping
🌻 Baked cupcakes with DS
🌻 Helped DS make frosting
🌻 Frosted & packaged cupcakes, ready for DS to take them to school tomorrow (I'll have to drop him off, good thing I'm not working tomorrow)
🌻 Had DS cook eggs for dinner tonight, he's getting better, but decided he prefers to cook them in bacon grease vs butter (less splatter)
🌻 Kitchen cleaned up, a few times today
🌻 Rotated DW x2

Ta didn't:
❌ Put gel on my nails, I plan to do that tomorrow

I'm tired tonight, been pretty tired all day actually. DD has a cold, well trying to fight one anyway and I'm starting to think my body is trying to fight it also. I think I'll take some nyquil in a few minutes and head to bed for an early night (it's almost 9:30pm here)
🍒👋 to everyone
