Calling all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the September FlyLady thread! Join us as we try to sometimes rather loosely follow FlyLady’s routines to steer us gradually towards clean and tidy homes and organised lives, with lots of nattering and support along the way.

The more the merrier, so please feel welcome to join. I’ll post daily links to try to keep us on track, and I’ll explain the system as we go if we have any newbies. If there’s anything you’re not sure about please ask. The website is here but be wary of signing up to the emails. There are lots.

Thanks to our lovely Sing for keeping us flapping through August, you did a grand job.

The naughty corner is fully stocked for anyone needing a little respite. I am already keeping it warm for everyone today and I’m not even sorry

Remember, you are never behind, just jump in where you are. Let’s do this Fledglings!

EssentiallyDisorganised · 07/09/2021 06:46

Morning all,

Another yes vote for a crafty corner in the naughty corner from me. I have several half finished crochet projects on the go. I am going to go along to a new craft club that is starting in a local hall later in the week and take one of my projects along. Between nee kitchen, allotment, work and back to school I haven't done much recently.

Sing - sorry to hear about positive results, hope you all remain not too poorly with it.

Red - DH, DD and I have started going to a quiz evening on a Sunday night, DH and I used to do them before the DCs were born, its nice that DD comes along now (DS isn't keen, he worries he'd get his phone out without thinking and get us disqualified). At the one we used to go to there was a one-man team who was extremely competitive and used to win, he was quite a show-off!

Well, yesterday we thought the builders were going to come back and do the last bits of kitchen fitting but no show. It was annoying because we just want it done now, it's just the plinths after getting the flooring done a couple of weeks ago. I need to pick up the tiles today too and hope the tiler can come soon.

So yesterday was a busy day. DS's first day of term today and he has gone into weekly boarding for his final year at school. Lots of packing as they are going on a residential camping trip for two days this week as well. I took a half day as we were never going to get it all sorted otherwise, made one of his favourite dinners and then took him to school, boarders can go back the night before and unpack, settle in. Felt a bit sad leaving him there but I think he'll have a great time. The house felt very quiet when I got back as DH had taken DD to swimming.

halfhope · 07/09/2021 09:09

ED make sure you maintain time for yourself and don't let the cats see this as an opportunity for a land grab!

That said I saw adorable crocheted Kitty sofas online...

I'm doing an Organised Mum/Flylady amalgam so today is Zone 2 Kitchen with clean sheets Tuesday (and plan and play). I'm a bit behind so best get moving!

StillUpholding · 07/09/2021 09:23

Just popping in to do links before I head out to the supermarket. Will catch up and do personals with a cuppa and a muffin when I’m back. DD has successfully been deposited for her first day at reception and went in with barely a backward glance!

Today is planning day - boiling here so one shall be doing one’s planning in the garden. The mission is to sort out our ‘silverware trays’. To be fair my cutlery tray is looking rather crumby.

Half - it was the DCats birthday yesterday so they were spoiled a bit with some Dreamies and catnip toys.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/09/2021 10:21

Hi sorry for absence I’ve been swamped in back to work stuff but will try and check in more.

No work today. So far I’ve rotated dw and taken delivery of groceries and walked the dog and applied frontline.

To do:
Fold and put away clean clothes
Lol
Clean kitchen sink, hob and surfaces
Clean toilet and sink in bathroom
Plan a couple of lessons
Frontline the cat
Look at weather and sort clothes for work tomorrow

Probably loads more but that will do for today.

Hope everyone is well 🙋‍♀️

SingToTheSky · 07/09/2021 10:51

Morning lovely people. Lazy day so far except I was woken at sodding 8am to do DD1’s test and trace call (did DS’ last night). Then had an email for mine.

Mc thanks, I’m enjoying the online teaching so far! It’s very very different from my in person teaching, but I’m enjoying the challenge of coming up with alternative ways to demonstrate stuff and keep it engaging, like making sort of interactive things to use on screen share. It’s very odd not being able to see them properly while screen sharing though, as I’d usually get a lot of info from body language etc regarding whether they’re understanding the work. But anyway it’s fun and I like the fact I don’t have to go anywhere or tidy my entire living room for lessons 🤣

Should really get up properly.

SingToTheSky · 07/09/2021 10:59

Been thinking of you honey I hope the first day of teaching was ok? Assuming that was yesterday.

Really should move. DH has rearranged the light repair - not till 27th now 😭 and I’ve done nothing really other than T&T info.

po3.1
❗️Eat something
❗️Discuss the day with DH
❗️Try again to ring nursery to update them

Mc3209 · 07/09/2021 11:14

The weather is glorious here. I am sitting in the park, my hair air-dried into a nice shape (for once!) and McTiny is snoozing in his pram. Life is good. Should probably do more walking to get more steps in today.

Sing I'm glad you are finding your feet with online tutoring.
Honey sending strength and sanity
Dancing McTiny is well, thank you 🥰 I am falling more and more in love with him every day. Soppy but true.

Mc3209 · 07/09/2021 11:16

Ladies, hedge trimming.. I just got quoted by a gardener £350+VAT for 3 tall hedges (will need a ladder to get the tops done) including removal of the resultant waste. I will try to negotiate this down, but does this sound reasonable?

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/09/2021 11:22

Last time I had mine done was £200 MC for out of control privet that runs full length of the side my garden, incl removal.
I am in the east of England for geographical comparisons may vary

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/09/2021 11:32

*that was last year

SingToTheSky · 07/09/2021 12:00

Definitely an easy day planned. And thank you hazel - DH and I have agreed that tomorrow (which was proper back to school day, today was meant to be a quick visit for LFT) we will start school work. Basic home ed stuff for DS (I’d set up plenty of stuff anyway) and DD1 can start sticking to the “extra study” timetable we had discussed the other day. That’s basically art in the evenings and a bit of work in English, science and maths. Plus obviously if the school set any work for absent kids but I’ve no idea if they will.

po3.2
❗️Inform various people about absence/rearranging stuff due to isolating - so far I can think of dance clubs x2, my job coach, piano pupil… there may be more!
❗️Try and work out how to change address on a school thing as they are STILL wrong after almost 2 years
❗️Set up PC for maths assessment

halfhope · 07/09/2021 12:11

MC - it's an expensive area particularly as there are plenty of people with lots of money in the locality. I'd get three quotes from different gardeners. I don't know if that is too expensive per se. Sometimes I go with a higher quote if I know I have someone reliable who'll do a good job and won't mess me around

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/09/2021 12:12

I can't remember who asked but the potato was for some grab and oven hot up cottage pies for the freezer.

Supposed to be making beef pies today. I have crashed and burnt hideously.

ta da
be stunned by a super organised and responsible ds
wonder wth i am doing with his time table copy he gave me so i know what is going on (i didn't ask for it, his own initive).
med review appointment
research some potentially dietary required changes based on that appointment
wonder why i feel like i have been hit by a truck
realise it is probably burn out
consider what can go on the to do list for today and what can't
treat the blistering heat rash and threatening heat stroke. - always with the sodding 10 degree temp jumps
Reconsider my plan to walk 6 miles home after dropping the car for some repairs later this week.
Put a load of washing on

So this app thing with lists? What pray is it? is it android? what is its requirements (access wise - does it need location etc, it is going to be another thing that beeps and me and I can't make it stop?)

I am going to get a bucket full of water, another coffee, some pain killers and consider the it MUST be done list.

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/09/2021 12:24

sing the girls school have online content in Google classrooms for those off and well enough to join lessons

SingToTheSky · 07/09/2021 12:28

Thanks zoo they organised no such thing last year it seems but maybe they will this time! Anyway DH is phoning the school now, to confirm DD1’s return date and to get the school to change the address AGAIN (the mistake is not on parent pay so it must be the school) and he’s going to ask about work at home too.

TheHoneyBadger · 07/09/2021 12:34

Sounds like a lot to me. Get another quote I’d say.

I had my hedges done including a section that was more trees than hedge, trimmings taken plus a collapsed flat bed removed for £120 recently.

There were three of them and it needed ladders but they made fast work of it. They also took back a couple of low hanging branches from a tree when I asked without adding to price.

I’m East Midlands

Dancingtomusic · 07/09/2021 13:02

I have been out to lidl and returned the small shirts and bought lots of shirts in different sizes. Bought wooden maths games for ds. Sch told me today they will give him supported maths 1:1 as he needs it. I was very thankful. Sch said how lovely ds is in sch. Ds is kind and has a big heart- very proud of him.
Popped to Library and picked up a how to be a maths whizz book and more reading for me.

I have to clear the sitting room floor of pens, jigsaws, papers bags anything child related....right i am going to make a start. Nothing is going to distract me.
Hang on...the washing machine has just finished...must put out the clothes first.

SingToTheSky · 07/09/2021 13:22

Right, feeling a bit more prepared now! DH has done a Tesco order too.

po3.3
❗️Shower
❗️Zoom background rescue - other online pupil has been away a few weeks so it’s somewhat neglected
❗️Teach! Well, assess really.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 07/09/2021 14:25

Afternoon all! Am still here, just with not a great deal to report. Have done some Olympic-standard sitting down resting my foot 😂.

Dancing well done on getting both DC into school, sorry to hear about the after school club provision.

Hills the Flylady app is android, doesn't go Bing! just provides a ticklist and can be customised. Resets every night for the following morning.

Rest of the personals have all fallen out of my head.

Apparently DH has reached his limit on looking after me and today we are back to "normal" with me ringing people, answering the door, arranging stuff, hemming trousers, sorting out meals etc. This is not working for me at all as I am still taking silly painkillers, so there are going to have to be some Discussions.
🍒👋 to everyone!

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/09/2021 14:42

dancingalways nice when teachers approach with kind words about your child rather than them being in trouble.well done D's💖
Willow very strong words.with cursing would be quite appropriate!
Sing hope zoom meet goes well
Honey how are you feeling about being back in "normal" school?x

SingToTheSky · 07/09/2021 16:30

po3.4
❗️Eat something and put phone on charge (feeling very “stuck” this afternoon so it’s a bare minimum tasks sort of thing!)
❗️Plan tomorrow’s maths and message mum to check about homework
❗️Choose a science book for DD1 to start revising with and order it

TheHoneyBadger · 07/09/2021 17:07

Don't know - haven't taught yet Zoo due to kids doing staggered start and all being with form tutors on Monday. Had two days of inset last week then Monday trying to sort out the chaos left after the refurbishment programme and trying to get prepared and some more training.

Teaching tomorrow.

I had a nap and haven't achieved anything more on my list other than a little bit of lesson planning and I did go on the treadmill for a bit.

I watched the whole of Keeping Faith over the last week. Have latest episode of Vigil to watch later but should at least go and get some washing on and clear and start soaking the sink.

GoingGoingGoth · 07/09/2021 19:21

Sing oh no re the positive tests, only do what you/they feel up to.

ED I hate waiting for workmen, it’s so frustrating if they don’t keep you informed if they can’t make it

Willow very strong words I hope, why do we have to have these conversations at regular intervals? (D)H is on best behaviour after a “it’s not proper work” comment the other week

Saying that I did fall asleep on the sofa this afternoon, warm weather completely knocks me out these days

Not much of a done list today, our short walk last night was almost 6km, so with that and the heat my main contribution has been being a taxi service.
