Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Good evening fledglings; after yet another loooong absence from the threads I am returning.

We are in the middle of a huge house extension, so dust and building materials everywhere, almost every room has stuff in it that Does Not Belong There so keeping things clean is really difficult. I will try to focus on decluttering and getting myself more organised.

Starting a new job at the end of next month too which will be mega full on.

Some Ta Das
Unpacked holiday bags and sorted laundry into heaps
Stripped DS bed sheets, washed, tumbled and put back on bed
Some laundry folded
Meal planned
Sainsbury's shop
Half heartedly cleaned out fridge (don't look too closely)
Sorted out recycling
Checked on chickens
Poo Picked the garden
Ordered DS some new uniform
Reviewed/updated/synced all calendars

TheHoneyBadger · 22/08/2021 19:35

Yeah no tesco clothes online anymore unfortunately. They're closing their current accounts next which is a pain.

Washing machine is on and half the clothes rack emptied and clothes put away. I'll get the rest when I go to hang the towels when they're done (which I must not forget to do this time!). Pills next. Tomorrow I must do something about the chair and start moving the furniture warehouse around and cleaning in the living room.

SingToTheSky · 22/08/2021 19:49

Exciting online shopping alert. Nothing on other sites I checked so went back to M&S and they were in stock. Added to basket plus a few more bras for her to try at home. Checked out. Knickers now out of stock again.🤬🤦🏻‍♀️

Oh well. Have bought the rest (as it included sports leggings she needs to try for school too) as at least that’s progress. 😩

This year’s back to school seems to have me leaking money frankly 💸😩

Found some on H&M this time. No idea how I missed them the first time I looked 😳🤣

Glad that’s over 🤣

I have shirts and trousers but I haven't actually managed to make ds try them on yet so it could be disastrous. Going to the uniform shop on Wednesday for the expensive items like blazer and pe tops.

I've remembered the hang the towels out and done a tidy round the kitchen including rinsing sink and have told the boy his plates need to be out of his room and in the dishwasher tonight or I will be waking him up at 6am when I get up to do it because I want to turn it on then.

Just about to do pills and patches for the week ahead then I think I'm done.

Sorry - hello to newbies - never got a chance to catch up with thread from when I was away I'm afraid. Got sucked into reading all about schools guidelines updates and media shite - should have read this instead would have been way less depressing.

Mc3209 · 22/08/2021 22:10

Weekend is done and I am so freaking tired. I swear, weekends are more tiring that weekdays at the moment (I am sure that will change once I go back to work from mat leave).

Ta das:
💥Folded a mahooosive pile of clean laundry
💥Few more LOLs on
💥Batch cooked baby food
💥Meal plan for the week
💥Ran DW a few times and usual kitchen clean up
💥Quick hoover downstairs

Redsquirrel5 · 22/08/2021 22:44

Yes, your right there Honey. I am glad for the first time I am not going back to school. The hens are coming in next month and we are going to get a tour and see how everything works.

DH has started mentioning the C word. He has never been known to do this before. Usually thinks about after his birthday which is late October.

Had a lovely lazy day.
Got up, shower and hair wash.
Took ironing pile ( second) upstairs.
Went to Mass.
Arrived back and went to pub where friends and DH were waiting and we had a drink then lovely roast dinner.
They came back for coffee.
We had a lazy afternoon and a nap.
Then watched Call the Midwife and now watching Gracie.

Home bleugh tomorrow and it is the boudoir. I might get it finished this time since I have been chipping away at it for ages.

Welcome back Mog lovely to have you back on board. ED is up to her eyes in renovations too. A little ahead of you and Hazel has bought and sold and moved. That has another bambino and Up is expecting. We has some more thread babies on their way. That is keeping her legs crossed. Just to help you catch up. The others will come up with other news.
No sign of SC I did used to love hearing about her life and Wreck1&2 and Dhorse .
Oh and Not a girlfriend is now a girlfriend and Willow is convalescing.

See you all tomorrow I am off to bed when Gracie has finished.

THATmamaofMANY · 22/08/2021 22:57

Red for once i am not yet thinking about christmas! Normally shopping by now here!

Redsquirrel5 · 22/08/2021 23:16

ThatI usually start in September. Plan the Xmas stuff for school then start with lists and smaller things for friends and family.Turkey ordered by Dec5 th but now the kids are older they say they don’t want anything. Granted DS1&2 have more income than us now. I still buy them something but wish they would help give us ideas. We did hampers for a while but only DS1 likes one now. DD usually gets money towards a course. She has been doing two in NZ. It means she can use the facilities there. A whole lot of A4 envelopes have arrived so it looks like we might be selling and posting from her Etsy site. I presume she has sent work to the printer. She usually does silkscreen and Lino prints but needs must she has set up digital printing.

Right I am off to bed.

I've been a bit AWOL from the thread lately. Hello to the newbies 👋 sorry I have forgotten your names 🤦‍♀️
We had a BBQ for DH on Saturday, his birthday is this coming week. So last week was filled with getting the house ready for a house full. The DC did most of the cleaning during the week while we were at work.
DD passed her driving test, no surprise really as she's a really good driver 🎉
We went floating a river today then sat in some hot pools, we are surrounded by natural hot springs so we have our pick of where to go, but also means if Yellowstone volcanoes go off, we would be one of the first areas affected and would die 🤷‍♀️ it's worth it!
I did make sure the kitchen was cleaned up this morning before leaving the house as I didn't want to come home to any dirty dishes.

Back to school for both my DC in the morning and DS is already going to be in bed late, oops 😬

Sorry for lack of personals, I'll try better tomorrow. 🍒👋 to everyone

flowerbus · 23/08/2021 04:36

Sorry I haven’t been on the last couple of days. It’s my birthday today and I was meant to be celebrating with family over the weekend but we’ve all come down with a bug. We’ve been cooped up all weekend, thankfully it isn’t COVID but I’ve felt so awful, I’m only just managing to look at a screen again.
willow ‘an everyone fed, nobody dead sort of day’ I love that😂
red I intend to breastfeed the DC until they wean naturally. DS1 currently only does to go to sleep or if he’s upset really. That’s very lucky that you were living across from someone who had goats milk 🥛. Strawberry and meringue sounds delicious!
zoo I don’t know how I managed not to LMS😂. DH was good to be fair to him, he’s blocked her on his personal mobile and made sure to text her through his work number and receptions number so she doesn’t have the excuse next time. He gave her a bit of a bollocking too and told her to mind her own business with the breastfeeding 😆. I hope you manage to sort your DD’s COVID vaccine out. I’m sure you look lovely in your dress, sometimes we don’t see what others see because we only focus on the bits we’re insecure about but others don’t even notice!💖
sing I’m a bit of a hippy mum I suppose so I’m used to people voicing their opinions but it baffles me why people care so much🙄. Cagletini sounds hilarious lmao😆
up thanks for the heads up about the play doh I’ll add that to the Christmas list.
hazel well done to your DD🥳. Your day sounds like heaven😍.

All the back to school talk is scaring me. DS1 is summer born (both DS are actually), he should be starting reception 2022 but we’re considering deferring to 2023. We’ll have to apply soon though, it all sounds so expensive, I’m not sure how we’ll afford 3 sets of uniforms in the future😰.

I should get back to sleep, I can only manage a few hours on and off but woke up to a lovely birthday message from a friend and now I can’t get back to sleep. I was hoping we’d be well enough to go for a meal today but it doesn’t look like we will be. Oh well I’m currently snuggled up to DS’s so it’s already starting out to be a pretty good birthday 🎁

Happy birthday flower and welcome to the thread (sorry I'm terrible at remembering names). I hope everyone is feeling better soon.

I'm headed to bed, it's 11pm here, 5:40am is going to come by too quickly.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2021 06:18

hazel hope school return is smooth /calm today
Flower happy birthday🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂
Sorry you've been so poorly.those babes are so cute
Furry overlords yowling for breakfast,so best get up and feed them/start home bleurgh....

MogTheSleepyCat · 23/08/2021 07:32

Many happy returns to you Flower - hope you have a lovely day.

Thank you Red for the update! There are several names I recognise, and no doubt some name changers too (I'll pick it all up eventually). Gutted to hear no sign of SC - but she always gave so much of herself to other people, hopefully this is a sign she is taking some time for herself.

Red are you getting chickens? I love my little flock, although we have lost two recently and DS was devastated.

Can't believe Cagletini is 3 already Sing - I remember your shock announcement you were expecting!

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/08/2021 07:34

Hand me downs really help Flowers especially if they are close in age.
Which reminds school sent the kids an email that said if you have old uniform can you bring it in. Ds naturally was like too much effort so I need to contact the school about dropping off as I have 2 blazers and some trousers lurking that i was going to send to the charity shop.

A&E trip for ds yesterday. Walls are hard, and punching them will hurt you. Soft tissue damage only thankfully.

Still feel like crap. Starting the day with a popped knee so plenty of tape will be needed. Need to leave early as apparently i have been held together by tape so much and i am out.

Oh and we have a mostly tidy sittable in lounge. Tis even been deep cleaned. Skirting boards, ceilings and all. Just the windows left to do.

THATmamaofMANY · 23/08/2021 07:45

Morning all

Happy birthday flower hope your all feeling better soon. We currently have four in school, two secondary and two primary. When my first two started school i used to buy everything new every year even if it didnt need replacing now i just buy as we need. So this year dc2 has only needed shoes, socks and shirts. With the little two logo stuff isn't compulsory so i can pay £9 for a logo jumper or go to Asda and get two plain jumpers for £4. I normally have one with a logo that i make sure they wear on picture day etc and the other plain. Smalls tend to loose jumpers / cardigans a lot so cheaper the better!
Also as someone mentioned hand me downs can work well with close in age siblings. Dc2 has had some of dc1s trousers / jumpers etc and has his old blazer as a spare

Dc5 will start reception in Sept 2023 and dc6 the following year. Dc5 will be one of the oldest in his year and dc6 one of the youngest in his!

THATmamaofMANY · 23/08/2021 07:52

Hills sorry to hear of a&e visit

Zoo i bet you look lovely in your dress you probably just need to get used to it

Mog i have name changed (more than once) struggling to remember who i used to be Blush

Hazel hope back to school goes well!

Mc3209 · 23/08/2021 08:53

Morning all!
Flowers happy birthday! Hope the bug buggers off soon and you feel better.
Hills glad to read it was just tissue damage with DS hand. He must have been so frustrated to do that. And you must have been very worried.
Willow how is the foot?

I've got to plan a few celebrations in the upcoming 2-3 months. First it's DH's birthday in September. I sorted his present already, just need to sort the the rest, cake etc. Then it's our anniversary, then McTiny's first birthday, then my birthday. After that Christmas will not be far away 😂 I need to get my head together and do some planning/buying.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2021 09:37

hills sorry you ended up at a+e with D's yesterday.glad it wasn't too serious.not good you held together with tape!well done on living room🏅
MC your organising puts most of us to shame!
Flower totally agree with that about supermarket jumpers etc.theres deffo a vortex at school that eats damn things(teacher told me once parents are too embarrassed to bring back other kids jumpers that found way into theirs bookbags and many are probably binnedShock)
My DC have unusual names written on tags and sewn in labels and still lost loads.teens are no better tbh, they lose everything bar phones but as these are permanentlyin hands that's not suprising

Tada
Cats fed
Wash on
Sort cat tree corner, which had become a dumping ground of "stuff"
Wake dd2 for meds

Wash in drier,more in
Sort my corner
Sweep floor
Wipe TV unit
Put away stray DVDs

Ask D's sort his room as can't see floor.turns out dad broke laundry basket on last visit so he has nowhere to put dirty clothes as it keeps falling over and spill them out...

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2021 09:39

Oh and whilst she was sorting bottles I got her to tackle toilet roll gate
Filled a clear recycling bag between bottles and rolls-i despair sometimes!!

SingToTheSky · 23/08/2021 09:55

Happy birthday flower hope you feel better soon! Your little ones are sooo cute 😍

Aaagh hills hope this week is calmer 💐

Hazel well done DD!!! 🚗⭐️

All the other personals have dropped out of my brain, so I’ll just say hello and put some cake and hot chocolate in the naughty corner.

I stupidly didn’t sleep until 4am. Was just scrolling my phone. 🤦🏻‍♀️ My mind felt oddly clear and a bit wired as I was so pleased to have actually achieved lots of stuff I’ve been procrastinating over lately, like applying for the job and the OU. Now I can focus on practical/house stuff again without feeling guilty about the admin I’m putting off. So I actually sort of wanted to get on with decluttering/tidying last night but it would’ve woken people up, so I did do some vaguely useful admin on my phone like organising some ideas for birthdays/Christmas etc. But of course now I actually could do some tidying (and I do need to as SILs will be popping in on Sunday, so my main aim for the week is getting the house more presentable) and due to lack of sleep I’m absolutely shattered and too achy to get on with it. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m also not quite sure what’s happening with various things this week. Argh. It’s stressing me out a bit.
