Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Morning all! I am washed, dressed, and downstairs facing the day, albeit with crutches within easy reach. I've not seen Downstairs before 4pm for over a week Grin.

Hills sorry about Teen's A&E trip - if it's any consolation, I had to do the same with DS1 after he punched a lamppost. Everyone at MIU said "you've broken that" and then after the xray we had to go back through the same set of HCPs all going "how did you get away with not breaking that??". He's not done it again. Good luck holding yourself together with tape and hurrah for an almost tidy, sittable lounge!

Flower happy birthday! What adorable babies you have (all the more so when they're asleep, I suspect 😂) and well done to DH for putting That Woman in her place. Hope everyone is feeling better soon.

Hazel happy birthday week to DH and congrats to DD for passing her driving test. Hope 5.40 didn't roll around too quickly and back to school went well.

Mog hello again, hope the dust isn't too dispiriting. I think I was Meg last time you were on.

zoo I am certain you will look lovely in the dress even if it's not quite the colour you anticipated. At least you know that DD2 has got the recycling out even if it looks a lot because it's not been done for a while.

Sing well done on getting loads done, but you 'nana staying up til 4am. How old are you, 16? Grin Hope today is doable. Crossing everything for the OU application for you.

Mc hope you are not too tired - I remember that feeling of needing a week to get over the weekend with a baby!

That trust back to school stuff is all in hand. Are you quietly checking off days in your diary until the refereeing of squabbles is over? I used to! We couldn't do handmedowns between the big boys as DS2 was the same size as DS1, or bigger in the shoulders by the time they went to secondary. It is still a minor bone of contention! DD and DS3 inherited a lot though.
Red excellent summary of what's been going on there!
ED hope you have dried out from your wet journey home from Scotland. Can you all sit on the Everhot if not?
Honey I've not tried shirts and trousers on DS3 yet either, they are in a bag in the corner of the Boudoir. I suppose I had better get to that this week (is it Boudoir week? I'm lost!)

Ta Da
💖 DH struck carpet in DS2's old room yesterday, prior to DS3 moving in. Nothing actually leapt for his throat, so we're taking it as a win.
🧡 Household cleaners etc ordered from Splosh
💛 Plumber contacted due to melting grout in Lovely New Bathroom. He says it's been liberally sprayed with limscale remover which must stop at once, and I need to speak to the lady who's cleaning for me while I'm laid up. I can't have her dissolving the bathroom!!
💚 Shopping list written for DD and DS3 to take up to town. DS3's meet up with friends tomorrow has been cancelled due to Unreliable Nanny rearranging her working week and friends' Mum needing to work, so DD has taken him to run errands and get Costa instead. She is so kind to her little brother.
💙 Fridge checked for existing veg and plan written to prep salads for the week so I can just hoik them out of the fridge. It's working well with breakfasts.
💜 Fishcakes for me retrieved from the freezer for tea. DH is having calamari and DS3 scampi, they can fix that for themselves!
🤎 Complaint made to Lakeland - their shiny heated airer has left scorch marks on DS2's good shirts! The rest of the washing is wet. He, and I, are furious. The remainder of his washing is here to wash and dry because we can't actually ruin everything he and the GF have to wear to work.

To Do:
🛌 have a small nap
📝 client work
👩‍🍳 batch prep lunches
🍽 eat lunch

SingToTheSky · 23/08/2021 11:19

po3.2
❗️Fill in weekly planner board
❗️Fill in and send booking form for workshop
❗️

Also delegating tasks to the Caglets. I’ve written a list of jobs DH and I can do between us as well so I’m not feeling the need to do my own scary list this week!

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 23/08/2021 11:21

Oops 😳

Third task:
❗️Start stash and dash in living room

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 23/08/2021 12:18

❗️Message friend about book order once I’ve decided one thing
❗️Move some piano music onto a cleared shelf
❗️Sit and read for a bit

🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗

Happy Monday folks. Time for the home bleugh - change the bedding, blah blah.

tzm=-60 FLIGHTPLAN

As we are now in the master bedroom (or boudoir/boodwa!) do some decluttering in there.

Today’s mission is dusting.

🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 23/08/2021 13:53

Haha yes was definitely channelling my inner rebellious teen willow :o

We had a reasonably productive morning. Just doing a puzzle with Cagletini now, then:

po3.4
❗️Book dancing for the week
❗️Respond to message re tutoring
❗️Sort DH’s novels into baskets

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 23/08/2021 14:40

Ha, I’m dead chuffed as I just about managed to fit all DH’s books into one basket (we really need a smaller shelf like a Billy bookcase, Kallax is useless for paperbacks!). Laundry has been hung out/moved to dryer.

po3.5
❗️Put our clean clothes away
❗️More stash and dash now I have a bag to fill
❗️Eat something and read a bit more

OP posts:
TheHoneyBadger · 23/08/2021 16:04

I read and caught up and had lots to say to various posters but my brain has malfunctioned. Sorry. Sorry to all dealing with wall punching, ill health and everything else. I know no one 'promised you a rose garden' but I was saying to someone just the other day that life IS hard! There's great bits too obviously but man it's uphill sometimes.

All I've managed today was a quick tidy in the kitchen, dw on, went and let a dog out and gave it some company as a favour for a friend, picked up prescription and got birthday cards needed for tonight and cash (this month seems painfully expensive) out of the machine to put in cards.

Next have to walk the dog, get boy on the move and in the shower and getting ready, write on cards, get ready myself and then go to my sister's for her children's birthday celebrations.

Tomorrow I have an appointment at 10 plus said I'd go let this dog out again in the early afternoon so can't see too much getting done then either.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2021 17:46

honey that's still productive
Singlove Billy bookcases💖
Willow hurrah for clear carpet and nothing grabbing dh by the throat🤣

My productiveness evaporated
Made lunch(roasted baby new potatoes veggies and veggie sausages.ds had pasta, tuna and veg)

I have lay down 2hours and had mini doze in amongst that

10 minutes breathing for anxiety from an app
Stretching my stuff tired body

Laundry continuing

Not much else to add but the need to slow down should never be seen as failure, merely a pause that's needed💖

SingToTheSky · 23/08/2021 17:50

po3.6
❗️Transfer play food into basket (it’s bigger than the current tub)
❗️Find sturdy bag and collect duplo into it (decided to sell)
❗️Relax and finish the film I started watching ages ago

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 23/08/2021 21:53

I love the kallax for paperbacks. I can have 2 rows of books. Blush so double the book capacity.

SingToTheSky · 24/08/2021 00:39

Ah yes sometimes we have had double rows.
Problem is the space in front of books is an instant dumping ground 😳😳😳

I’m knackered and grumpy and was so ouchy earlier I couldn’t move for ages. Fibro pain ugh. Am stressed about various things and burnt out from clingy anxious teen. Should really sleep.

OP posts:
Dancingtomusic · 24/08/2021 04:49

Sing- hope you get some sleep!
Mog- welcome back
Zoo- The great water bottle experiement- 🤣
Willow- did you try the limbo to help have a bath?
Hills- hope your knee is ok.
Big cherry waves to everyone i have missed. (Been up since 3.50am.)

Sunday tadas-
Tackled my dressing table (of doom) and removed lots of round vanity bags. They were covered in dust (I couldnt reach it, due to a mountain of junk infront.)
Found £40 cash that was a bonus! I have vaccumed, wiped the sides down. Dragged 3 large suicase up the stairs and put them next to the dressing table. I have covered it all with a lovely duvet to keep the dust off it all. It looks lovely and tidy in there.

Monday tadas- I looked after ds little 6 yr old friend as his mum had started a new job. He was a pleasure to look after. Had to take the kids to the park when his mum finshed work as I couldn't let her see my untidy house as she is OCD about cleaning and would never understand warm, loved and lived in house.

To do- I hope to sit and sew my sons trousers up and then wash all the new uniform.

My house is looking so much better than it used to. My sitting room looks bigger without 3 suitcases.

(Is it silly I feel like I will miss my kids so much when they go to school- I dont want to let them go?)

I have just read a email from school, saying it looks like they have normal pick ups from outside the classrooms 🤦‍♀️
Rugby hordes anyone. I hate it. I liked the organised queues and the quick get away from school.

Lots of coffees, teas and herbal hot drinks are in the naughty corner.

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/08/2021 06:32

dancing I always felt sad holidays ending, but the zoolets have always got on well.if they bickered a lot maybe I'd have felt differently?
I really need to get up.dd2 getting vaccine today.centre opens at 12,so go try be there for 1130 and be near/at front of the queue

All being well dad's taking us,and help me pick up a new toaster today as I'm tired of having use grill for crumpets etc

TheHoneyBadger · 24/08/2021 07:18

I don't know if I'm older but do drink lots of water - sounds obvious but easily forgotten. I've restarted decent probiotics as my bowels (I'm missing half a colon) were not doing great again. For lower back and bowel pain laying on your back, drawing your knees to your chest and rocking side to side helps - massages the area.

Morning. I've sort of swished and swiped the kitchen and put a lol on. Woke up crazy early but have been doing some meditations and such. I have a free subscription to the Balance app - they're doing a free year due to covid if anyone is interested.

MogTheSleepyCat · 24/08/2021 07:43

Brew for all this morning

MogTheSleepyCat · 24/08/2021 07:49

After work yesterday I managed to get DS in to town to get new school shoes and last uniform bits followed by trip to the park.

One of my main issues is cooking and eating propper meals - I'm ashamed to say we eat more convenience food and takeaways than 'normal' food. So this week I have meal planned and set a reminder each night to defrost ingredients for the next day's dinner.

I never eat breakfast before leaving the house and then end up buying a pastry on the way to work or getting a McDonalds breakfast.

This has to stop has I am the biggest I have ever been and my bank balance could do with a break too!

Tell me I'm not alone ...

halfhope · 24/08/2021 07:56

Welcome Mog. I fell off the thread - apologies. Zoo lovely, I ate two penguin bars in succession and three more later so have fallen off the no sugar wagon. Felt very strange after - now have sugar withdrawal. I'd cut back gradually.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/08/2021 08:11

Shit, shit, shit. I forgot that I have a hairdresser coming today and my living room is a filthy furniture warehouse Sad Have an appointment out of the house at 10am (need to leave by about 9.30) and will be back just in time for the hairdresser at 11.30am so I need to somehow turn it around and get ready in the next hour or so.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/08/2021 08:19

Would you believe hairdresser just got in touch to say she has car troubles and will need to reschedule!? Phew! My day was looking way too hectic as I've also agreed to go and let this dog out again this afternoon and I'm feeling pretty meh from too much prosecco last night for my niece's birthday.

Right. Po3:
Fold and put away dry towels
Hang out washing when done
Deal with emails and bank stuff

That's enough with getting ready and getting to this appointment. Later I need to make some progress with living room so I don't have a panic attack the next time I face someone entering the house.

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/08/2021 08:30

honey phew.karma was working with you this morning!!thanks for massaging tip.i am a nightmare for not drinking.i never feel thirsty, just get a dry tongue and think,oh it's 7pm I've not had a drink yet....I have had erratic eating habits all my life and this inconsistency has wrecked my digestion, noticably in last year or two I can't make sudden changes or I'm in agony☹️(I have been increasing veg a little, but perhaps too fast alongside more frequent eating)

Mog in younger days I skipped brekkie then ate crap to get me to lunch often I just don't eat til lunch now,but that's another story.its not unusual.my dd1(26) eats a lot of convenience/takeout.life balance tips and swings and when things are super busy if you aren't highly organised then I see no harm in it.somethings better than nothing?

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/08/2021 08:33

Oh,and tada
Wash on
Cats fed
Wake dd2
Try and stretch back(cat/cow was AGONY.Childs pose, slightly better as pull was in shoulders not lower back.pain in legs attempting downward dog)
Grill toast DD
Wake D's
Grill toast D's..he had his first go at proper independent spreading himself.cant tell if he had toast with butter,or butter with toast it was that thick but he enjoyed eating it (although very stressed I wouldn't just do it for him/help him !)
Dressed
Brushed hair

I'm now in pain,but upright

SingToTheSky · 24/08/2021 09:01

Aah don’t you just love it when someone else cancels an appointment so you don’t have to? 😁

Mog you are definitely not alone with the food. It is an issue that I just don’t have the energy to tackle ATM. DS (nearly 12 and autistic) is very fussy and DD1’s anxiety seems to be affecting her eating now too, she was fairly good with it before at least in terms of different veg etc but recently she has started sticking to a few “safe” foods. Cagletini was the most amazing eater since weaning but the fact we are now getting worse is really impacting her - she’s refusing more etc. DH has always done more of the cooking but as he’s getting more tired/unwell it’s another reason to rely on convenience. We barely all eat together at the moment 😬

Sorry for the rant. 😳 Anyway - nope you are definitely not alone! One day we will manage to improve it I’m sure! 💐

I actually slept about 6-7 hours straight I think. Normally I wake up every couple of hours. I don’t feel refreshed though.

po3.1
❗️Downstairs for meds, painkillers and breakfast
❗️Make sure DS is awake
❗️Look up location of today’s workshop

OP posts:
IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 24/08/2021 09:23

Urgh. I overdid it being downstairs all day yesterday and cooking my own tea because everyone was busy. I've been in low-level, niggly pain all night and got up at 5am for a hot cup of tea and some pain killers which meant a very slow shamble down the stairs on one crutch. Ideally I need three, one upstairs, one downstairs and one that goes between the two!

I am at least up and dressed but I'm staying on the bed for now. Being downstairs it is too tempting just to "get on with things".

Dancing I was able to have a bath but oh my goodness what a faff! Getting in was fine, but getting out took ages and by the time I managed it I was exhausted and all sweaty again! Showers only until I can get my foot wet and fully stand on it, I think.

All the personals have fallen out of my head. I need a nap. Back later!
