Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

The doors look lovely hazel.

Thanks for your praises. I know normal people probably do all this weekly 🙈 I’ve been procrastinating about the kitchen for ages though. Will try and finish up today.

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/08/2021 07:18

hills massive list.how lovely plants were bought home by the people!
Hazel that looks fab!
MC hope mctiny let you get some sleep

Had text 2am he had pounding headache and IBS.trips off.irritatingly I couldn't sleep again just semi dozed.grrrr
About move my stumps and try do something useful

SingToTheSky · 15/08/2021 07:35

Morning everyone.

Hazel the doors look great! I love the floor in there too, lovely colour 🥰

Hills I love that you encouraged a detour for the people! Did it buy you a bit more time? Yay for new plants!

Honey I know what you mean about feeling like normal people doing our big achievements as standard. Gotta love executive function problems eh? However we are all here on flylady because we do struggle with that stuff for whatever reason, so we can celebrate these achievements together as we don’t take doing that stuff for granted! 😀🏆

I’m trying to get used to having more regular tasks that don’t go on specific to do lists (as opposed to power of three which can have anything). For example, at first sorting meds and changing the weekly planner board and writing up tuition diary were all Big Tasks. But now I’m trying to weave them into my standard activities IYSWIM so they become habit. Blows my mind how people do that sort of thing naturally, but again, I can celebrate it here!

Although I’ve just realised on my blood pressure chart, last night on the penultimate day I forgot to measure it 😭 dammit. It’s fine as I only need to report an average, just annoying as I was so pleased to have actually kept it up!

Anyway, been awake a while but not done anything yet. Period arrived last night which is doubtless contributing to feeling rubbish! Not sure what will get done today but am prioritising completion of the assignment as it’s definitely doable and it will feel amazing to have finished the course after so much hassle with the tutor not marking work for ages. Decorating wise, I’m not sure as we need more white spirit, could get on with other bits but also need stuff like a new loo seat and door handle (both genuinely need replacing anyway so don’t mind spending on them!) so it depends if DH is up for shopping as I’m definitely not.

po3.1
❗️Downstairs for meds and then bring breakfast up to eat in bed while watching Netflix on my phone
❗️Look on Argos to compare beanbag prices (thank you that! 💐)
❗️Clean planner board

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 15/08/2021 08:17

Terrible night's sleep. Late coffee and AF combined against me so I am really sluggish, sore and meh this morning. Loads to do again today. But first coffee in bed with a video. The first load of washing is on.

SingToTheSky · 15/08/2021 08:33

It’s Sunday. The day to renew your spirit - do something nice just for you!

FLIGHTPLAN

We are now into zone 3… the bathroom (plus another room) - no missions today though.

Have not read the thread since Wednesday. Operation Party-Ready House was a success. People were fed and well oiled. Clean up is just about done. I not only survived but managed to enjoy it! It was lovely to catch up with some relatives we haven’t seen since last year. Plus there’s plenty of left overs to keep us fed today Smile

Immediate plans are cuppa and catch up on the thread. Later plans will need to include laundry, ironing and retrieving the big toys we shoved in the garage. Probably cake too.

Hope everyone is ok. 🍒 👋

Redsquirrel5 · 15/08/2021 10:39

zoogreat shoes. Not long now.

*Willow hope they are waiting on you hand and foot🍫🍿☕️💐to be going on with.

Hazel great new doors also love your flooring. I like the pergola outside it too.

Sorry not many personals but also have a Friday 13 th birthday in our family - baby sister.

Did kitchen drawer. Went out to friends yesterday for lunch. Lovely curry. DH did some gardening for her. I talked to her’boyfriend’ very interesting chap and I didn’t feel we could all go out and leave him in there but suspect he might have had a snooze if I had so he might have preferred that.

The boudoir has a rug...a visible rug. I sorted a box and after a bit of juggling four pieces of pottery have gone in the Christmas box and a couple are on display downstairs.
Still have a basket for charity shop but going to suss out a charity bin thing today...if I remember.
Blackcurrant jam yummy and set properly but need to write self a note about hot plate temperature for next time.

Right must go get dressed for church. Also had horrible, disturbed night hills couldn’t get to sleep then as I was dropping off mouse with hob nailed boots came in to eat stuff DH put down. Kept imagine 🐀 irk. Woke dreaming about them more than once and then just drifting when strange noise outside so checked no one pinching car or next doors. Bolt upright read some more of book eventually dropped off and slept solid for about three hours.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋to everyone.

Bathroom already 😳

SingToTheSky · 15/08/2021 10:43

Hey up pleased the party was a success and in a clean house to boot!

(For newbies, CHAOS in flylady jargon means Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome! Because the house is messy. I feel covid somewhat changed the way that works when we weren’t allowed anyone over for months anyway 🤣)

Argh in true PMS style I’ve been doomscrolling on my phone for ages. Also got caught up figuring out some maths stuff. Which is useful, but really not urgent, as it’s something my older pupils aren’t currently ready for and DS would need some more background work too… so not exactly the best use of my time. Finally dragged my arse back downstairs to clean the board, so:

po3.2
❗️Check diary and arrange time to see mum and dad, and particular pupils as I have a feeling there is an appointment clash
❗️Take BP
❗️Check how shower caddy shelf looks with stuff in it and possibly redo one sticker (thankfully it had spares) as it looks slightly wonky and is driving me mad

OP posts:
TheHoneyBadger · 15/08/2021 10:58

Ohhh! I've been at CHAOS point for months but starting to look like I might escape it soon. Glad hosting went well Up and sorry to those with bad night's sleep/lack there of.

This morning I cleaned the sink and the tiles around it and the kitchen is not far off done - just need to tidy the top of a dresser and do the floor but it wouldn't be the end of the world if I didn't for now because I cleaned all the yukky edges and spot cleaned it. It's looking better in there than it has in a long time.

I thought we'd be on lounge next for some reason. Bathroom shouldn't be too bad so I'll chip away at lounge too this week. I'm having a bureau and a sort of nursing chair from a neighbour whose moving away at the end of the week so I need to get rid of (give away hopefully) the oversized but lovely armchair I've been threatening to get rid of for ages and move things around to make room.

The bureau and chair can be my little marking and planning corner and I will 'try' not to end up using my bed as my office with piles of papers and books around it anymore. Bureau has lots of storage space without anything being on display and looking cluttered.

SingToTheSky · 15/08/2021 11:08

po3.3
❗️Write up the week on the board
❗️Decide where loo roll and hand towel holders will go, and attach them
❗️Rinse brushes again and leave to dry

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 15/08/2021 12:01

Honey I like the plans for your living room. Dedicated work space will be very convenient.
Hills wow, you've done a lot yesterday. I'll have some of what you're having 😬
Willow how is your foot?
Sing sounds like your bathroom is really coming together!

Ta das:
💥Kitchen sorted, DW rotated etc
💥Under the kitchen sink cleaned and organised
💥Beds stripped and remade
💥S&s
💥First LOL in

SingToTheSky · 15/08/2021 12:01

Yippee the bathroom is very much taking shape now. DH and DS are off to the shops soon for food stuffs and I’ll see if they could go to wilko as well for the door handle/loo seat. Ooh and the towel hook to go on the door.

I am feeling very slow indeed today. But am mindful of the fact that I’ve still got stuff done, when I wouldn’t have even managed that in the past.

I don’t think I’ll be able to do much while they’re out - DD1 still feeling rough and I can’t leave her in charge of Cagletini while I’m elsewhere in the house really. Might try and do some of the activities I printed out for her.

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 15/08/2021 12:24

po3.4
❗️Choose two things to do with Cagletini and do them
❗️Look through some printed stuff for a particular sheet and print it if it’s not there
❗️Eat something and watch Netflix

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 15/08/2021 14:24

It is a lot of hell nope today tbh.

ta da
LMS at the peoples - reminded them they are grown ups and not teenage girls so stop snipping
deal with sulking people
deal with project managing people
scan some books into computer so can generate the mini picture i use when reviewing the reference book so i know where to return to look for info later
Import pictures in to power point and print ready for the cut and glue process later.
work on clearing some of my open tabs on my internet browser (stuffs am in middle of using but side tracked and need to finish with)
Put away dried washing up
put jars right side up to finish air drying
prep for making quiche
put clothes on (yes it was low on the priorities today)
deal with still damp rug
look at what is needed to finish setting up my bujo this month (yes i know slightly on the late side Hmm) and prep for next month cos that is going to hit faster than is needed
take iron tablet

About to go make quiche after harvesting some veg from the garden. And then head out to the hills for some total down time with a book. Might even get out of the car if the weather is nice and take a walk. Might just sit in the car and read with a nice quiet view. who knows. Grin

SingToTheSky · 15/08/2021 15:58

Lots of nice activities done with Cagletini. Games, sticking etc… and as we made a little paper Egypt scene I finally found out what she’d been trying to say this morning. She’d kept saying “I’m the tie walrus” while covering one eye.

Turns out she meant Eye of Horus. Obviously.

Anyway, I feel like crap (period) and since DH is back I’ve escaped upstairs.

po3.5
❗️Finish assignment. Really not in the mood (it’s normal for ADHD meds to be less effective during period, my brain isn’t working!) but I want it done so I can forget about it!
❗️Print stuff for maths tomorrow (siblings so two different things)
❗️Finish current episode while starting to sort DS’ maths stuff

Redsquirrel5 · 15/08/2021 16:54

You do seem to be getting loads done Sing &Hills me - not so much.
Went to Mass.
Decluttered some books to a lovely girl and two boys. She was very pleased as teacher related. You see I don’t mind giving some stuff away and it is getting a bit easier. Those books will be used now instead of sitting on the shelf gathering dust.
DH had dinner under control. M&S lamb shanks in sauce 😀very tasty, new potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and cabbage. Broad beans from the garden.
Washed up and loaded dishwasher.

I then made some raspberry jam. Two punnets of M&S rasps, sugar and lemon juice. 10 minutes and done. Two pots and a tiny one.
Read some magazine articles in Summerhouse.
Washed large pot & utensils.
Need a nap.

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/08/2021 19:42

Food,as always,sounds lovely red

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/08/2021 21:01

I had some french beans grown in window boxes next to fence (although have done bean poles before with a window box and it worked well. Also some courgettes from plants grown in pots. Most of my growing is in pots cos god dammit i am taking the jungle with me when i get to move. Also mint and the mint family.

This week i need to harvest and dry my herbs ready for use in teas over the winter. Lemon balm, mint, spearmint, chocolate peppermint, camomile, calendula, sage etc

I really want rosmary, thyme, marjorum and several others as well next year. was just too busy to plant the seeds at the right time. Although might try autumn starting for over wintering on the windowsil and planting out in the late spring post frost risk. Else i might plant for spring germination after cold stratification thingy.

Although what i really want is a very large patch of nettles. However i think the people might not permit that BlushGrin Very fond of nettles i am. Very nutritional too, with some excellent beneficial properties.

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/08/2021 21:26

We have a nettle patch hills for the wildlife.i stay away from it this time of year as makes my eyes sting/wheezy.i sometimes hack it back in winter, sometimes not.how do you use dry herbs in teas??

Redsquirrel5 · 15/08/2021 23:34

Ooh Hills you have similar herbs to me. Mint- pineapple, chocolate, spearmint and a n other.
Lemon balm. Two types of sage. Thyme - golden and silver. Basil -
Greek fennel, oregano. Rosemary has died. Must ask M if I can have some of his to start some new plants.

The raspberry jam is delicious.

Thanks Zoo I often think I could sit down and eat your lovely meals.
Glad you got to stay longer. It has rained most of the day here.

Honey I found if I can sort one room I can keep on top of it and start on another. I have three rooms pretty much sorted now and trying to get my bedroom done now.

I am housing quite a few things from my grandmother and aunt. I really should have taken some up to my sisters. One sister is worse than me and I was concerned about the safety of the things.

I have sorted through three large files today and I actually wanted to get sorted and rid of it. Paperwork, lesson plans and lots of spelling sheets I had written. RE and a diary. I haven’t done the diary as it needs to be burnt or shredded. That is one box, one toy box and two bags I have done this week. I sorted through my aunt’s jewellery box too. I need to get someone to go through it to find out whether some is paste or real. Some lovely earrings.
DH is off walking from tomorrow until Wednesday. Hopefully I will get some sorting done while he is away.

Hopes Willow isn’t in too much pain. Hopefully they will step up and do ‘ home bleugh ‘ tomorrow for her.

SingToTheSky · 16/08/2021 00:12

Shatterrrrred. Sorting DS’ work took ages. Showed DD1 how to use the comb binder though, she loves it 🤣

ta da
🏛cleaned and refilled weekly planner board
🏛rejigged shower caddy
🏛put up towel and loo roll holders
🏛lots of activities with Cagletini
🏛FINISHED MY LAST ASSIGNMENT!!!
🏛sorted a lot of maths for the next term for DS and bound it into two books, other than a bit that needs reprinting and adding (also bound some stuff for DH)

Absolutely nowhere near having achieved my list this week. But I did get some of the biggest and most significant tasks done so I really shouldn’t be hard on myself. 😊 I’ll try and figure out a to do list for the new week tomorrow I suppose 🤔😬 lots of stuff to add to it but of course I still have unfinished stuff from this week too 😭

Anyway. Must go to bed and hope my legs/hips feel better. I don’t seem to get so much of the actual period cramps anymore, but more of the top of thigh pain instead. WTF. Far too hot and uncomfortable for a hot water bottle on them either. Who’d be a women eh? 🙄🤬

At least I’m not tutoring till 12 tomorrow so plenty of time to get going and prepare, although DH might nip to B&Q as we still need a proper bath towel hook thing and a door handle/lock.

sing be kind to yourself.you tick list for the past week has been significantly bigger than anything pre meds with multiple areas tackled/tamed as well as dealing with Sen kids,a pre schooler and chronic long term illness.tbh adding in those means you aren't simply flying you're almost at supersonic!💖
RedI used to collect herbs at My old house.then partner dad had big collection.lemon thyme and chocolate mint were among my favourites.geound here is awful,so I use mostly dry herbs these days

I have had terrible insomnia tonight.asleep by 11,but awake since 2.going to abandon sleep attempts soon and start home bleurgh as I can guarantee I lay here past6am I will start get sleepy then will feel groggy all day.advantahe older kids/no school is if I need a nap I can try and fit one in!!

Dancingtomusic · 16/08/2021 05:41

Sing- you have finished some very big things! Weldone on completing them!
I would love to use a comb binder too- i think there should be one in the naughty corner.

Wellies- I hope your foot is ok after the op and you are wiggling your toes.

Honey- epic lists
Hills- epic lists from you too!

Zoo- I love that high heel! Its beautiful! I used to love wearing high heels. Now my feet cant take it. Zoo you will look beautiful.

Hazel - the french doors are lovely!

Foxes- weldone for sorting most of your school uniform.

Tadas-
Went shoes and trainer shopping with the kids yesterday. Got most of uniform sorted.
Finally got ds a pair of trousers that fits him around the waist aged 11- 12 old with a half elastic waistband and hook and zip at the front. (Ds is 6yrold.) The trouser is super long so I will have to turn it up lots today so it will fit properly.
Do you think i should cut it and turn it up? Or turn it up and sew it?

TheHoneyBadger · 16/08/2021 08:03

Can’t remember who asked about dried herbs. You can get teapots with little herb holder/diffusers in them or you can buy sort of spoons that flip open and you put your herbs in then put directly in your mug to diffuse. Hang on
