Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

dancing good to know the paw patrol movie is alright! My two have always been huge fans of it, especially ds who has all the figures and cars. In fact, they made their own paw patrol movie yesterday and filmed it on their camera Grin

Ed the kitchen is really good, everything is organised in there now which is great. Just need to do the tiling and finish painting and at the moment the dining area is just painted white so it needs some things on the walls to get it looking a bit more homely. I'm not sure what to do with that part of it yet, it is lovely when the sun comes through so a small chair in the corner would be nice I think.

I also read that thread about the not being liked and it was interesting, I think a lot of people feel they don't fit in. It's too early for me to talk much about it now as I haven't had caffeine Grin but needless to say I have felt that way too Flowers

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/08/2021 08:05

Did not sleep as well last night. it was gone half 1 nearly 2 before i crashed. This is normal. But man do i feel sore eyed and tired this morning.

to do
Work
tame kitchen
make meatballs
burn all the things. . .
take bath to clean up.

SingToTheSky · 11/08/2021 08:20

Zoo 💐 I’m sorry lilzoo is being so cruel. Will DD1 still allow her to stay? If she’s not communicating with her either, she may as well go home.

Hazel wow I had no idea your holidays were so long! Do they have longer school days in term time?

Dancing Cagletini gets in an absolute state when woken in the night so the lifting thing is not something we’ve tried!

Anyway, my prediction was sadly correct but at least she had stayed in her own bed and I didn’t hear a small voice say “Mummy I had a accdident” until almost 7am. Sheets are in the wash and she’s dozed off on my bed now so I’m hoping she doesn’t wake up and cause havoc during my Skype lesson (PC is in our room) 😬

po3.1
❗️Get dressed and sort rats’ nest of hair, finish breakfast, take BP
❗️Set up Skype meeting (including checking camera angle as it fell off the other day) and email link to pupil
❗️Figure out what else I need ready for screen sharing for this topic

Wow ED you are a powerhouse of efficiency today. Want to pop over to mine and keep going? 🤣

Hazel that's a looooong summer holiday! We are in week 3 for DS3, with 3 more to go and are managing quite well with tennis club etc. I'm so pleased he's found a sport he likes and can do the coach emailed yesterday to check his was coming again for the last two weeks! DD has been off since 14 May so we are in week umpty-seven there.

Sing sorry about the extra washing, cross fingers she stays asleep for tutoring!

Hills sorry about the lack of sleep. When you say "burn all of the things", what exactly are you including there...?

No ta das yet today, bar NOT flinging WillowHound across the room when he unexpectedly landed in my lap en route to launching himself at the bookshelves for no reason. Then he alighted on the coffee table and slid off it, taking everything on there with him. Stupid dog.

To do
📖 Rotate DW
📝 Hang last night's wash out
📖 Meds, wash, dress etc
📝 S&S
📖 Make bed
📝 Sweep kitchen floor
📖 do more writing
📝 Book next week's tennis for DS3
📖 Get another LOL on

Not too much, then, but I'm sure I shall grind to a halt at some point.

🍒👋 to everyone.

🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

Happy Wednesday everyone! Here’s hoping it’s not a WOW (write off Wednesday) for all of us. It is, of course, ANTI PROCRASTINATION DAY. So let’s all do something we’ve been putting off. For me, alas, that is a lot of stuff on this week’s scary list.

FLIGHTPLAN

Here are the missions. Today’s is to clear out the fridge!

Remember our monthly habit of laundry…

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/08/2021 09:02

If you get ED Willow can I have MC? I'd like to have that mythical thing of a tidy house...

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 11/08/2021 09:16

Sounds like a fair swap, Hills. Try not to set fire to the garden!

StillUpholding · 11/08/2021 10:36

ED you were on fire this morning!

I misread earlier Zoo and thought you meant ‘d’p didn’t want to come to yours. Very hurtful that it’s L’il Zoo Flowers. You try so hard to help her but I suppose to a teenage brain it doesn’t look like that. She loves you really, and one day when she’s through the other side will know that you were trying your best and always had her best interests at heart. We all know you’re a brilliant mum even if she is doing a good job of making you feel like you aren’t right now.

I did some things:
👊 made beds
👊 breakfast for humans and cats
👊 dishes washed by hand (I think my DW has died 😭)
👊 benches wiped again, including moving the microwave and jazz
👊 LOL done and flapping merrily in the breeze. Next LOL in.
👊 Checked fridge and froze some chicken breasts that run the risk of not getting used due to
DH messing with the meal plan
👊 put hoover back together having washed the filters the other day, and de-haired the roller part.
👊 hoovered the kitchen thoroughly
👊 hoovered stairs
👊 filled DD’s little watering can numerous times for her until I lost the will to live
👊 realised I was a hot sweaty grumpy mess so had a shower and defrosted legs.

Need to get DD dressed and do some more hoovering and wipe the paintwork down before heading to meet DM at 12:30. But now I have stopped…

Dancingtomusic · 11/08/2021 10:54

Up- thats a great list! Have you been at zoo's tic tacs?

Slow morning here as Dd wouldnt sleep until 11pm then we all wale up late. I think i will hate school mornings when the holidays end.😑.

SingToTheSky · 11/08/2021 11:12

Lesson good. Only one more maths lesson this week. Then did some edge painting. Duvet is now washing.

po3.2
❗️Message pupil’s mum to check payment/homework/lesson and holiday dates
❗️Play piano while I have the house to myself!
❗️Sort some books and toys while watching telly

Time running quickly today but I'm running slowly!

Good stuff done there, Up, don't wear yourself out.

Dancing maybe being at school will wear DD out more, so she sleeps earlier?

Ta da:
💖 DS3 emptied DW
🧡 LOL on line
💛 DS3's bed stripped, new LOL in washer
💚 Paddling pool uncovered - I swear there was more water on the cover than there was in it, after the recent rain!
💙 Difficult telephone call
💜 Phoned consultant's secretary about recovery profile for my foot - only the 3rd time I've asked and she still behaved like she'd never heard such a thing before 🤷‍♀️
🤎 Booked tennis next week for DS3
🖤 recommended a counsellor to Mum

Now coming out of my hideyhole office to hang out more washing and do some filing downstairs where the dog can see me and doesn't believe he has no friends 😢🐕

THATmamaofMANY · 11/08/2021 13:03

During the school year here they go Monday thru Thursday, 8:25-3pm. Although this year they're trying to make up for Covid so I think they go in closer to 8am and get out at 4pm. They don't have as many breaks throughout the school year though, like half term. They get a week off in October, 2 weeks off for Christmas, a week for spring break and a few days here and there. We do get alloted so many snow days as well that they don't always use.
I actually like them home, they have chores to do. Although they're eating too much and they're here on my Tuesdays 🙄
Long lists today on the thread, and a clean house?! Impossible! 🤣😂

Oops gotta go, almost late leaving for work!

foxessocks · 11/08/2021 14:39

Lots of great lists today! I also want to know about MC completely tidy house , I think the only time I've had that is when our old house was up for sale 😂 sometimes I get it tidy for visitors but usually I've had to shove loads of random crap in our bedroom with the door shut 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Anti procrastination today has been cleaning the microwave and the oven!

Took the dc to the park this morning, did a nature trail and stopped for a coffee and ice cream. Ds had a strop half way round and I was getting a bit hot and fed up, two lovely ladies stopped and chatted, ds usually gets very grumpy if strangers try to get him out of a mood (he gets embarrassed I think) so I admit my heart sank at first when they tried to cheer him up but they got him smiling by chatting about dogs, wow I couldn't believe it! By the end dd was chatting so much to them they couldn't get away but they were so patient with all her questions (they had a lovely old dog with them and dd was very interested in it!) I thanked them a lot for being so kind Smile

So that was my positive Smile

Negative - I dropped the food waste bin when I got home, in the kitchen, half of the mush went behind the bin I had to clean it all out 🤢

Kitchen is quite clean now just need to run the dishwasher again later. 2 X LOL so far. I need to clean the bathroom, put fresh towels in there and I need to make some bread and some cakes, kids are eating so much right now and I'm on a tight budget at the moment so need some cheap and easy home made stuff.

I am resolute to stay on top of the house now. So far so good, it hasn't morphed into a hovel yet 😅 DH is shirking his cooking duties, so that's a help in the cleanliness department 😂
Ordered few fridge organiser boxes from Amazon, they should be arriving tomorrow. Will rearrange the fridge.

All this is, of course, a procrastination on the talk I need to write for work (I regret checking my work emails during mat leave now). I gave myself until the end of the week to get the first draft sorted. I don't know when it will be recorded, so don't want to get caught with proverbial pants down.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/08/2021 20:19

aspie kids waiting for results are arses that slam doors and pick fights. That is all.

I wanted an early night as I managed to leave a ring on the cooker on so burning the stuff = bad plan. Teen has successfully made me cross enough by picking fights that i am now not going to sleep. Which means i am going to be too tired to sort stuffs tomo. Which means I am going to be on the raw end of temper on a day when i need to be calmer than a glass pond.

ta da
survived work
cooked really nice treaty tea without setting fire to the kitchen.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/08/2021 21:56

And we have peace....

.... for now.

So much for my early night Hmm

THATmamaofMANY · 11/08/2021 22:07

Oh crap its gcse results day tomorrow Shock

ExtremelyDisorganised · 11/08/2021 22:19

Good luck to all DCs and adults with results tomorrow. DD has one GCSE (y10) but she isn't that bothered as she hates the subject and doesn't want to take it at A level.

Redsquirrel5 · 11/08/2021 23:28

Good luck tomorrow That

Also all the DC getting results.

Anti- procrastination...phoned for advice and an appointment. I put this off last week and didn’t want to do it today because I had a late night, disturbed sleep then slept late. I looked up number then after about 10 minutes I kicked myself up the bum and got the phone and did it. So pleased with myself. The lady on the other end was so cheery and helpful and when I mentioned my anxiety said that such a lot of people have mentioned that when phoning and when there. She put me right at ease and I made the appointment( not until Sept) so I can prepare myself for that and I thanked her for being so lovely and so helpful. If only all doctor’s receptionists could be like that we have some that are but one young girl who doesn’t listen and is rude.

Everyone seems to be getting some stuff done and I have too. Kitchen. Removed everything in window and around sink. We have a continuous piece of worktop that goes into the window. I got DH to turn the window too so I could wash it. Wiped down the cupboards around it. Yesterday I cleaned out two glass door cupboards and rearranged things. Polished surface after a good clean. By reorganising some things I have a plastic box that is only half full. I need to sort the rest tomorrow. I hope it will fit in with the Christmas stuff. I would like to do the dresser base on Friday.

Oh I did a pile of ironing yesterday and another hour today. Not put away yet.
I did some dead heading and watered the greenhouse too. Tomatoes are ripening😃

Cheery waves to everyone.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 11/08/2021 23:45

Good luck That and ED's DD and Hills minor and anyone else up and twitching at this time of night.

I have found it so difficult to concentrate today I ended up ironing bedding, becauase it's rectilinear and fairly straightforward and contemplative.

Yes, I really should get out more.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/08/2021 07:38

I like ironing tea towels for the same reason willow

I need to go hoover up the mess i made when i dropped a plate. I was too tired last night to collect the bits of the hoover and reassemble.
I went to sleep reasonably early but woke bolt upright at 6:50am. Ages before my alarm clock on my day off.

So I am going to try to get some stuff done before going to wake ds at 8am.

to do
find the tape for my knee
tape knee
put clothes away into newly tidied drawer - consider what needs to be done to tidy the other drawers
wash all the pots
laundry
hoover and wash the kitchen floor
get teen up
