Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

SingToTheSky · 31/07/2021 23:04

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Hang on

Mc are you saying your ENTIRE house is clean?

Witchcraft!

🧙‍♀️🕷🕸🦇

Mc3209 · 10/08/2021 17:38

That well, the utility room has a life of its own, I sort of organised a bag with bags to make it look better, but if I close that door the house is clean 🤣

merryhouse · 10/08/2021 18:49

Oh I hate applications. What evidence can I show that I can follow instructions? It's a trainee post for which they're asking 5 GCSEs, and yet they want you to demonstrate evidence of personal development to retain your skills fuxake

And I've just realised that I've attached (which cannot be unattached) a document with my referee's old email on it. I have a keen eye for detail and am organised and efficient. (It will have to be Not My Fault that she told me two days after I applied...)

Splurged some words and am now working on the cover letter. It doesn't close till next week so I will watch some gymnastics when I get home. Did the rest of the list.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/08/2021 19:12

A whole house clean is witchcraft indeed.

Someone from uni called, people off with Covid apparently. Have asked questions and deflected maybes and I’d think so’s and asked for definite answers. Seems it’s the first year they’ve offered this post grad psych programme and not everything is clear but she has said she’ll find out and get back to me.

Feeling strangely depressed and just ordered takeaway knowing full well it was self destructive and unnecessary and I’d regret it. Stopped at the pub for a drink and sort of got to thinking how I don’t fit anywhere. Kind of too down to earth and honest for my middle class workplace, too educated or stuck up for people I grew up in similar circumstances and locales to and way out of the middle aged couples with children loop yet as a mum not in the single woman world properly either.

Feeling a bit lost. Maybe it’s being off work and lack of routines but yes, very conscious of my in between and nowhere’ness today

SingToTheSky · 10/08/2021 19:29

Argh merry I sympathise! Job hunting sucks big time. It all feels so… interrogative. 💐

Honey I’m sorry you feel low. I hope you enjoy the takeaway even if it’s not the healthy option, we can’t be perfect all the time (or ever in my case…)

You just haven’t found your tribe yet. Annoying term for it but I do feel it works. You will find them. In the meantime you have settled right in here and we are very glad to have you!

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 10/08/2021 19:31

I reckon we’d get on well IRL. Don’t suppose you’re near Sussex 😄 or indeed London for a Fledgling meet 😀

But anyway, I have horrible memories of the same feeling - just not belonging. But it did happen. No reason it can’t for you. I hope although we are an online presence that we provide some friendship 💐

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 10/08/2021 19:41

merry could the minutes you do for the Church be evidence of a) personal development and b) following instructions? So pleased to hear S2 is pleased with his results, congrats to him.

Mc I'd like some of whatever you're having, if you've got the whole house clean!

Today has been weird.

Ta da:
❤️ LOL x 2 washed and dried
🧡 DW rotated and almost ready to go on again
💛 DD sent off to The North to stay with her brother for a couple of days
💚 DS2 congratulated at length
💙 DS2 and GF's washing dried for them as they have no airer and no space, indoor or outdoor
💜 A Level success present of a Lakeland heated airer (MN approved!) ordered so they can dry their own pants 😁
🤎 3 hrs of work done, still not found a way to tell the client there's no money for any more
🖤 Dinner of cold lamb, veg, instant roasties and reheated gravy

Heading for an early night I think! Got to do the whole winding up for results thing again tomorrow... Who on earth thought it was a good idea to have kids 2 school years apart??

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 10/08/2021 19:43

Honey I'm sorry you feel you don't fit where you are living, you absolutely do here on the thread. Sending ((((hugs)))) it's hard to shake off that feeling sometimes.

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/08/2021 19:50

ta da
make 1 of 2 important phone calls
try to get hold of gran but apparently she has a busy social life today.
move some books about
work on making sure there are clothes in the clothes storage
load and run dw
procrastinate
take a phone call for the people, deal with best possible and contact the people to deal with better
deal with food shopping that has arrived
argue with technology again and discover steep learning curve
finish book
arrange to go walking later
empty and reload dw
put a load of washing on

Feeling a bit on the rough side today, but the long sleep has made me feel a lot less utterly exhausted, still bone tired just less so. Hopefully this will keep going in the right direction.

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/08/2021 19:53

Honey - i dont fit in. But i learnt not to care. I have good friends. I dont need to fit in with everyone else. We do not have to be everyone else or similar to them and their lives. It is ok to be different.

If i had time i would break down the absolute toxic nature of modern society. but the damn technology keeps fucking beeping and I need to leave. If you wish a soap box moment when I get back let me know. But just know this "you are enough" that is it, that is all. And the only person who really needs to come to peace with this is you. Because once you believe it, others wont make you feel otherwise.

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/08/2021 20:20

And i am going to be honest. In society as it is, this simple thing, is the hardest possible solution, but it is the most permenant.

foxessocks · 10/08/2021 20:32

dancing I also have the joy of the paw patrol movie to look forward to 😂 !! Hope you get the problem with your eyes sorted 😞

Honey we have also not seen a flea since first thing this morning, it sounds like we are both getting there with the damn things!!

Tonight, after dinner, we all did a tidy up for about half an hour / 45 minutes, it has made such a difference I think I might suggest we do it every night (dh not enthusiastic about this but I think it's good to work as a team!)

Anyway, I still have a lot to do but I feel a lot calmer because at least the washing has been put away (I did 4 loads today hooray for sunshine!) , toys are away, house is hoovered, dishwasher on.

Tomorrow I don't have to work the whole day just a bit first thing so have told the dc we'll get out on the fresh air.

Congratulations on all the dc exam results btw 😃

SingToTheSky · 10/08/2021 22:13

Spent a while doing more edging in the bathroom. While trying to manage a very stroppy Cagletini. She also refused the loo so expecting to be changing her sheets some time in the night 🙄

Still feeling as though I am living up to this month's version of my nickname here. Laundry all over the place but the kitchen is gradually getting sorted.

Honey - sorry you are feeling low and out of place, I have had times in my life when I've felt like that too, I tend to agree with Hills that acceptance of yourself for what you are instead of trying to fit in with others is a way out of it but it's not easy. You fit in very well here, this is a very accepting place.

Zoo - saw this cat thread yesterday and it made me smile, did you see it www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_litter_tray/4317997-No-cats-in-bedrooms

Foxes how's your kitchen now?

I am so tired and feeling very unfit too, tomorrow I will exercise!

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/08/2021 22:37

honey I've never really belonged and hills advice resonates
MC I don't know if I'm shocked, disgusted or in awe at a clean house on this thread!!Grinare you Samantha Stevens?(will explain tom if reference is too old for you)
Sing hope a wet beds not inevitable..
MerryFlowersI've no advice re job hunting..

Shitty day got worse
Lil zoo seeing dad Thursday, and asked see dd2 this week, but not visit the houseD's ment be visiting for his usual stay over Fri night.i cried and spent afternoon between sob and sleeping in bed...
Walked local nature reserve dd2
Cook D's cheesy pasta and last of broccoli
Cheese sandwich with dd2 and criminal minds binge watching in progress....

Dancingtomusic · 10/08/2021 23:18

Sing- oh no, can you carry her while she is asleep and pop her on the loo. Tell her to wee so she doesnt have to worry about a wet bed? I do this with my very heavy dd (i stagger to the loo carrying her- all because I dont want to clean up wet.)

Foxes- the Paw Patrol movie was brilliant. My dear sensitive son was crying in 3 parts of the film and laughing in other places. I took my eardefenders and it helped me cope and ds cope with the sounds. Both my kids loved seeing it so definately was worth it.

Willow- goodness! Goodluck for tomo.
Hills- its true we are not everyones cup of tea. I am taking tiny steps to just be me. I am interested in your take, as I am the kind of person that wants to be friends with everyone. I read a interesting mn thread, posted by a mum asking is she just not likable- such interesting replies.
Honey- I am sorry you are feeling this way. I understand how you feel about not fitting in (sending you a big hug!) Sing is right, you fit in lovely here.

Mc- did you find that magic wand!? 😀weldone on sorting your house.
Red- hope your tomatoe plants are not to thirsty tomo! Weldone for continuing the bedroom sorting.

Dancingtomusic · 10/08/2021 23:23

Sorry x post zoo - oh no, sending you a huge hug. You got lots of friends on here. Hug.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/08/2021 00:33

Zoo it's the nose wiggle. I want that magic power!

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/08/2021 00:35

Also rl friends can be hard. Anyone who is rl friends with me has to put up with me. And damn sometimes I annoy the hell out of myself, never mind anyone else. I am still a work in progress

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/08/2021 05:35

hills I have the nose wiggle down sadly I can confirm as a atand alone it's not powerful enough to instantly clean houses.i also would like the finger click travel as I hate travelling....
Ed Grinah yes,the great debate about cats on beds....I lost that argument years ago.scoutcat has to be strongly contained as he sprays/drips despite being spayed.the girls dominant upstairs so he's happy on backs sofa etc.cossima cat is the bed queen.rotates her way between them and has two tone whiskers and tabby fur so we know who has been where!my doors ment be kept shut to prevent unwanted furballs in my bed.i swear they can open doorknobs somehowGrin

StillUpholding · 11/08/2021 06:19

I’ve done a quick catch up on the thread.

Zoo I love your dress, you are going to look lovely.

Fantastic news on the a level results Willow and Merry.

I am so jealous of your clean house Mc. Hope to be in the same place by the weekend but the oven will not be getting done

I had a busy day yesterday and made progress:
☀️ Kitchen benches and cupboard fronts cleaned
☀️ downstairs thoroughly dusted
☀️ all downstairs windows and mirrors cleaned
☀️ washed out fruit bowl and wiped down dresser it sits on
☀️ tidied kitchen shelves
☀️ LOL and a bit of putting away
☀️ emptied bathroom and bedroom bins
☀️ Pregnancy-related appointment in afternoon
☀️ made a start on planning/buying of food for saturday

Today I need to:
🙄 wipe down all paintwork downstairs. It’s reached levels of grubbiness I can no longer tolerate
🙄 hoover downstairs and stairs
🙄 mop downstairs. Kitchen will be have to be an on-hands-and-knees-scrubbing job I think.
🙄 shove dining room toys in utility room to make space for Saturday’s visitors in the dining room
🙄 clean bathroom and downstairs loo
🙄 tidy dressing room a bit (just enough for me, the door will be getting firmly closed on it on saturday)
🙄 iron some tunics for work
🙄 meet DM for lunch and take DD to park

That’s seems rather a long list. But I don’t want to get up.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 11/08/2021 06:49

Tada!

Woke up early
Fed cats
Hung out a LOL washed last night
Filled fruit bowl
Sorted through pans to work out which are not induction hob friendly (most of them)
Removed half a dozen empty cartons / drink cans etc to recycling
Watered house plant
Read meters and logged readings
Made packed lunch
Updated Ipad software (supposed to do it by itself but never does)
Made cup of tea.

HazelNuttyElf · 11/08/2021 06:51

It seems congratulations are in order for some of the thread DC for A level results, good luck 🤞 to any more awaiting results.
zoo did you get in touch with the council yet? Sorry to hear about lil zoo, teenagers can be such cruel creatures at times.

Sorry for lack of personals to everyone. Someone had asked me about how long my DC have been on school holidays.. this is week 11, next week is the last week and they go back on the 23rd (Monday). DD has been taking 2 classes throughout the summer so she doesn't feel like she's even had a summer.

Ta Das:
🌻 sheets washed
🌻 S & S x2
🌻 Rotated DW
🌻 3 more LOLs done, including dogs bedding & blankets
🌻 DC eye doctor appointment (took 2 hours and almost $600)
🌻 Took dog to groomers to get nails trimmed and anal glands expressed
🌻 Gave dog a bath
🌻 Went shopping, I found a couple pairs of jeans I like (unusual)
🌻 Cooked zucchini while DH smoked steaks for dinner
🌻 Put away some pantry stuff to the basement
🌻 Cleaned up kitchen, wiped all surfaces down

I'm falling asleep, best be off 🍒👋 to everyone

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 11/08/2021 07:12

Oh zoo I'm sorry, teens can be so thoughtlessly cruel.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 11/08/2021 07:31

More tada!

Short HIIT video done
Breakfast eaten
DW emptied

Mc - well done on the clean house!

Hazel - 11 weeks! Mine have been off for 4 now and DS is itching to get back to school, he misses the structure of the school day and his friends, they are all a bit far apart to meet much in the holidays.
