Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

SingToTheSky · 31/07/2021 23:04

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Morning
Bit of a broken night thanks to Cagletini. But she looks all cute and snuggly when she’s asleep so I forgive her 🤣

Very bleary eyed now though. Got to leave just after 9 for my lesson, I think I’ll need to walk even slower today 😳

po3.1
❗️Quick shower/dressed
❗️Meds and breakfast
❗️Gather what I need for lesson

Foxes you find that magic wand to finish the DIY/Rennovating I want second dibs on it!!! so fed up of it, and yet so much left to do!

I was going to have a gentle evening and read a book. I fell asleep about 5:30pm and that was about that. woke up multiple times, vaguely remember a conversation with ds where he offered to shut my bedroom door. Woke up to the last sounds of the alarm clock as it screeches its guts out trying to get attention. Feeling very sluggish this morning. Which is ok cos i am not in work today.

PLaying hunt the paperwork and make the important phone calls though.

Dancingtomusic · 10/08/2021 08:19

Foxes- magic wand would brilliant. Brew
Willow- goodluck to your ds 🍀
Sing- hope your fingers are ok. You are doing amazing with the tutoring! Weldone!
Zoo- hope your dcat is ok.
Red- you have given me an idea to try my kebabs with couscous.
Half - I also love the ideas of easy meals. I think i will try making 1 meal a week of picking dishes.
honey- hope the fleas have stopped
hills- hope you are ok.
Mc- hope sorting the house makes you feel better.

Thanks everyone, i will be putting dd in my sons old school shirts (i would rather reuse them too.) I didnt know rounded edges were a new thing. I have been put off - i didnt know some of the edges curled while drying. I dont want the hassle of that.

Do you guys remember the eye problems i have been having? Yesterday, my sister described having - blurry vision, felt like bits in her eye. Right eye stabbing pains. Very painful.
She didnt realise i also had pains in my right eye. I am wondering what is going on.

It’s Tuesday! That means planning. Check your diaries, do a meal plan, book tickets etc.

FLIGHTPLAN

Here are the missions. Yesterday’s was to do the outside of the cabinets… today’s is to do the outside of the cabinets. 🤔

dancing I agree with sing about advice, although I'd suggest optician?doctors are general but if no other symptoms I'd expect optician be more helpful and easier to get hold of .I get blurred vision from dry eyes

Well cossima still snotty, but was able to play with mousey on a stick.she sounded horrific but was able to run a little without mouth breathing,so I'm guessing it's more her usual congestion.im cheered her stomachs not contractingwill continue to monitor

IBS has decided join ranks today..tummy now very uncomfortable, but we need food so be a slow walk to shops

Tada
Cats fed
Wash on
Harpic lav
Sit with hot water bottle on back feeling sorry for self
play cossima (to observe breathing)
Write shop list of necessities

SingToTheSky · 10/08/2021 09:25

❗️Teach English then walk home
❗️Read’n’rest!

tidy our dc didnt go to the school i wanted as dc1 felt strongly that he wanted to be with friends, however i think it has worked out for the best and the school they are at although shabby looking has actually been good for them

Fingers crossed for your ds willow

THATmamaofMANY · 10/08/2021 09:51

Dc4 has just asked what is for dinner. Its 9.50am

TheHoneyBadger · 10/08/2021 10:12

Guessing Dc4 is male?

Have hoovered bedroom again and landing. Landing will need more attention - it is a really old carpet (rental property) and everything seems to stick to it - like you can hoover over a stray piece of thread or fluff a million times. I don't know if this is really because it's an old carpet? Dyson seems to work fine over my rugs etc.

I've also emailed chasing up insurance company again, chasing university who were meant to call me last week and responding to landlady about the fact the tree is still in the same state. I've told her about a quote I've had to sort out the hedges here and remove the rotten, badly constructed raised bed that the previous tenant made and asked if she would be willing to share costs - she has gone very quiet now unsurprisingly.

Still no sign of fleas thank goodness.

Am waiting on a tesco delivery currently then going for a walk with the dog to pick something up in the village.

I must do at least the 15minute declutter mission in the kitchen. It's very much needed - I've been doing the odd bit of rehoming things and getting rid of things and putting away etc but lots to be done.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 10/08/2021 10:21

It's the holidays, That, dinner is any time post-breakfast!

Delighted to announce that DS2 has two As and a C at A level, and is cockahoop. 🥳 The GF is also delighted with her results and they have skipped off cheerfully for a second celebration with her parents (our house is on the way to their's). I am now absolutely exhausted.

Dancing I second speaking to an medic, probably an optician. Some of those symptoms ring bells as things to look out for as emergencies.

Sing hope the teaching is going well. Don't walk too fast and knock yourself out.

Hills great that you got a Big Sleep.
Zoo sorry your digestion is unhappy and Cossima is snotty. Hope you get through to the council today.
MrsTidy sometimes the school you want turns out not to be the school you thought it was, as the reality is different from the veneer. Hope things go smoothly for LG next week, and for DS, Hope.

I don't quite know what to do with myself now.

Dancingtomusic · 10/08/2021 10:45

Willow- 🎉🎉🏅 Congratulations to your Ds! Yay! 🎉🎉 great news he has done so well!

Zoo- hope cossima is ok. Broccoli is very fiberous and tough on the digestion.
I do have extremely dry eyes and have been using my eyedrops and glasses for the past 3 days and its helped alot. I was told by the optician that I have dry eyes.
Maybe if my eyes are that dry....i might be not able to go see the new paw patrol film at the cinema (can u tell i dont want to go?) Its too loud, cold and loud. (Got to find 3 sets of ear defenders before i go.)
Thanks everyone for reminding me to book a doctors appt. Wish me good luck.

Tadas-
Washed up dishes in 3 small batches (during tv ad breaks)
Put away 3 washed blankets.
mc- Breakfast- porridge with apple, carrot, cinnimon and honey. Kids loved it. So did i! Something healthy for me for a change.

Todo-
Shower.
Load bike rack onto car - eek.
Try to load kids bikes onto car- eek very heavy.
(I need to get out of the house and fresh air movement as my tummy has turned into a square shape.🤪)

Redsquirrel5 · 10/08/2021 10:52

Morning all,

Disturbed sleep. Was awake for a couple of hours around 2am then again about 6. So annoying.

Willow great results.
Dancing agree about getting the eyes checked out. Could you go to Specsavers or similar? Quicker than appointment unless you go to A&E as likely they would call Optician ( can’t remember proper title) down.

Sing sorry you also had a disturbed night. Great about the tutoring.

Redsquirrel5 · 10/08/2021 11:11

Oops brain fog pressed the wrong button.

MrsTidy the last school I went to wasn’t mum’s choice but I did quite well there. I really enjoyed it.

Hills hope you feel ok after ‘big sleep’ (reminds me of those Furbies) as I sometimes feel worse.

Zoo wouldn’t recommend two nights of squash, sweet potato either. Mine is rumbling now.

MC must try that. I have porridge in the winter so would be a nice alternative. I sometimes have chopped apple and cinnamon on top. Usual is a little salt, brown sugar and milk on top. Same as dad made me.

Late yesterday afternoon I went to my room and got quite a lot sorted. Still baskets and a box on the floor but I went through trunk and sorted all my shoes. Put three pairs in for cobbler to put new sole on heels as rest in good nick.
Sorted box of shoes under bed these are mainly light pumps Keds and some lace ups Converse and Rocket Dog all bought in sales. Now neat and tidy. Sorted two small baskets. I can see more of the floor! Result!

Flylady- yes noticed that Sing. So I cleaned all the top cupboards and left the bottom ones for today and carried on with other stuff. Just remembered I forgot to water tomatoes yesterday damn. It rained a lot but I was in there briefly and thought must water then forgot. Leaves will be curling. I moved a lot so easier to water. Will have less next year I think. Still picking strawberries. DH picked a load off blackcurrants yesterday so need to do something with them. Jam? Or in the freezer.

SingToTheSky · 10/08/2021 11:16

That he’s obviously a keen fledgling - it is planning day after all :o

Lesson was fab, and the walk home not too bad despite the heat! Bit of a change of plan as DSD is doing outreach work in our local park today, so DH might take the Caglets while I chill a bit before my next lesson. Really should get on with the painting but I has the tireds

OP posts:
TheHoneyBadger · 10/08/2021 12:31

MrsT I sent ds to the school he could walk to partly because it’s good for independence and means they have friends around locally. I also started working there at the same time.

Convenience is worth a lot. Sometimes I feel bad that I should have tried to get him into one of 2 allegedly ’great’ schools in the county but he’s happy I didn’t and loves being able to leave 15 minutes before registration and being able to be home in 5 minutes.

As a teacher whose done supply I can say it’s all swings and roundabouts in terms of schools perceived strengths and weaknesses and often the reputation and reality have little in common 🤷‍♀️

Been an admin kind of day, phonecalls with insurance repairs team (tree people should now be coming this afternoon), persuasive comms with landlady who has agreed to go halves on cost of some work and chasing up of a pair of trainers that haven’t arrived for ds. Put away groceries and managed to get a ton of grass seed out of the cats fur without blood being shed and researched best deals for account switching.

Need to apply and authorise current account switch next (one of my accounts was with Tesco who’ve announced they’re closing all current accounts annoyingly).

TheHoneyBadger · 10/08/2021 12:34

The last switch I did I got a £15 bottle case of wine. Best I can find this time is £140 cash but have to pay in £1750pm which will require some creative transferring about of money.

Do have a look if you never do switches.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/08/2021 12:35

15 bottle not £15.

merryhouse · 10/08/2021 14:14

TaDa

mended a bath mat (Fri)
mended another bath mat, except for a few stitches the other end (ran out of thread just before lunch)

S1 has gone off to Manchester on a ringing trip
S2 is quietly pleased Grin about his results. The girlfriend was also delighted, and all his friends have got what they needed.

ToDo
put the last few stitches in the bath mat
hang washing
make coffee
eat some fruit (look I'm putting everything down, ok? it's been one of those weeks)
apply to one of these job vacancies, dammit, particularly that one that looks ideal you bloody idiot
make dinner (toad in the hole)
pick wash and chop chard
go ringing
maybe watch some gymnastics or karate before it disappears

but first... go to the sodding loo, merry, are you still nine

TheHoneyBadger · 10/08/2021 14:54

Tree men came, assessed and sorted and cleaned up after themselves really well so that's one 'crisis' thing done and dusted. Simple, competent, no nonsense bloke and his helper and really well informed and helpful. We've aimed for trying to save the lower branch by removing the broken one that was attached and putting varnish and some kind of hormone over the exposed wood and removing some branches further out that would have been putting weight on the remaining, impaired branch.

Still nothing from the uni and I'm wondering if maybe the person who was communicating with me has gone off sick. Course starts Sept 6th and I think the deadline for applications is a couple of weeks away still so not panic worthy.

Ds will shortly be taking the dog out for a wee and emptying the dw - horrified that I left it for him to do when he wasn't here this morning Grin but seemingly resigned to it being his job though I doubt he'll ever do it without being prodded into it.

I should now be able to make myself look semi presentable and go do my chores in the village and get some steps in. Kitchen so far untouched I'm afraid. I'm not very good at this - will aim to do at least the 15mins when I get back but may take a book with me and stop off for a pint on the way home.

I've been researching home treadmills.

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/08/2021 15:21

tbf today is clearing day so they might be a bit tied up if in

SingToTheSky · 10/08/2021 16:11

I have not done the things

I did teach maths but didn’t get anything else done as I’m tired and sat chatting with pupil’s mum instead. Piano at 5 as well, dug out a new book to try. Only got one lesson tomorrow at 9am so hopefully I can get more other stuff done 😳

Mc3209 · 10/08/2021 16:29

Ladies, I have a clean house! And all my clean laundry is put away! Whoop! The only 2 things left to do is to clean insides of the fridge and oven.

Willow hurray for A level results! 🎉 He must be very chuffed!
Dancing do pop down to see your local optician. Glad you enjoyed the porridge ☺️
Red do you keep tomatoes in a greenhouse? (As you can probably tell I know nothing about growing vegetables)
Honey a book and a pint sounds fab. You need to decompress.

MrsTidyHouse · 10/08/2021 16:47

Thank you for all the reassuring words about LG and school. Flowers

SingToTheSky · 10/08/2021 16:57

Amazing mc! I can only dream of such achievements 😬😳 my house is a tip ATM. Time seems to be going so quickly, I swear it can’t be a week since last Tuesday?!

I’d like to think I’ll at least do a little of the bathroom when I get home, DH has a zoom meet but with any luck I can fit a bit in before it’s dark. Otherwise with drying time I’m not sure all the bits will get finished this week. Haven’t even bought woodwork and radiator paint yet.
