Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Definitely go with boys shirts Dancing. Picot edging on girls shirts is a pain in the bum and it curls as it dries!

I am just dropping the dog off for his haircut, then zipping to Tesco for new pants and uniform for DS3, grapes and rice krispies. Obvs!

I have done all my morning routine and 2 x LOL, second one is drying now. Got absolutely no work at all done though!

SingToTheSky · 09/08/2021 14:03

I find that with vests too willow the edging is a pain, Cagletini had boy vests last year. I think DD1 had boy shirts for her first year at school too as we then reused them for DS.

Walking home now hoping my magnum will survive long enough to be put in the freezer for after my lunch :o got some filled pasta and sauce with extras 😋

SingToTheSky · 09/08/2021 14:51

…which I’m now regretting big time as I managed to burn my hand on the sauce 😭😭😭

Hi, quite a lot of chat going on think it has taken me nearly an hour to catch up.

Zoo that dress is beautiful.

Glad I hadn’t splashed out on a new outfit for the save the date wedding and new suit for DH because I imagine last one wouldn’t have fitted.

Uniforms- DD wore handme down boys shirts no one will notice and if I did I would have thought good for mum saving some money. Village school here didn’t wear them in late 80’s but boys had worn them at the previous one. By DS3 the parents had brought them in.

I would say please teach your little ones to dress themselves. It takes so long in the first term to undress and dress for PE they are lucky to get 5 mins in the hall. Tights too. To help sew a bit of thread to the back of the tights. Velcro trainers. It is a nightmare for a teacher and a TA to undress and dress 30 4&5 year olds.

I am chilling upstairs literally as the window was open about 6 inches and it is quite chilly!

Need to dust and do a basket of BRC. Getting less. I did think last night I should remove anything that is not mine and check how much there is. Then I could sort my stuff and decide on the rest. I have some things from aunt’s house and DH mum’s jewellery box. I am lying on the bed I feel really tired.

Kebabs I didn’t make them. We have a shop that is near to the auction mart. There is a large one that appeals to catering etc that we could use but they have made a new one that has a very good butchery with local meat, fish from NE and tins, fresh veg etc

The kebabs were marinated herb and garlic prawns and a hot spicy 🌶 steak, pepper and onion. We made a store cupboard Moroccan Cous Cous to go with them.
I declared to DH we should make Saturday night an easy tea night every week as we just put them on a tray and into the oven.

Yesterday we had roast chicken, bacon, roast potatoes and sweet potato, carrots and squash. Chocolate pudding.
I got a bit huffy as DH being helpful put veg on larger trays which meant I couldn’t get the pudding I had just made in the ovens. He said I was sulky like a child. I was annoyed at that because I really was just feeling frustrated at not being able to rearrange trays.

halfhope · 09/08/2021 15:53

Red - ask for an even bigger Everhot! I only have a single oven and with the next kitchen revamp (never had one before but might one day) I am wondering whether a double oven would be the way to go. Built in (one large. one small oven) rather than built under which is two smaller ovens.
Oven tetris is frustrating and even more so if things are hot.

I think one dinner per week should be a picky dinner of cold cuts, leftovers and snacky things. It's so nice to just throw things together.

foxessocks · 09/08/2021 16:12

I highly recommend a big oven it's amazing being able to fit everything in and at different temperatures too!!

Dh has come home and flea sprayed downstairs, the dc are now playing computer games upstairs and all the windows are open!

I'm still working...

The weather is not on my side with all of this washing 😞

Ta das
Booked opticians
Washing up
Dishwasher on again
More washing on
Cleaned up after lunch
Dh flea sprayed downstairs
Text back a parent who wants to meet up with the dc soon

Nothing else really, I so need to get some deep cleaning done but when?! I'm too tired once the kids are in bed .

Redsquirrel5 · 09/08/2021 17:22

Mites, fleas we are having a right time of it!

I daren’t say we might have got rid of the mites! I need to get hold of the chickens and give them a good dusting in the meantime I will dust the bedroom.

BF brought her very cute granddaughter here for an hour.

Redsquirrel5 · 09/08/2021 17:31

Hope - no chance I just need to make sure I have a cold pudding or one that can be made quickly and put in as the roast comes out. It was a large chicken so needed the roasting tray that comes with it. DH then put the potatoes in the bottom over but then put the sweet potato and the squash and onions on medium trays which can’t fit side ways. The ovens are very deep. I am going to get another shelf for the bottom oven.
ED the bottom shelf can’t go in the top oven as it won’t stand the temperature so can’t go over 200C the top oven shelves can go in the bottom though.

Anyway no cooking tonight left overs heated up or cold chicken. Think I might make soup tomorrow.

SingToTheSky · 09/08/2021 17:50

Right, time for my scary list for the week. Sticking to 15 items as that worked out well last week, although it’s taken me so long to do this list I feel like I’m a day behind!

🎯submit marriage certificate to OU to change name officially on there
🎯submit form to get restricted status lifted with OU (I did the form ages ago but it was too early then)
🎯paint mini Ikea chest of drawers (will be for pens/pencils etc)
🎯edit covering letter to apply for vacancy
🎯adjust CV with the changes suggested by adviser
🎯bind some of the work I’ve printed for DS into books to put aside for September
🎯finish book decluttering
🎯start using some of the activities I put aside for Cagletini
🎯return shoes if it’s not too late, otherwise add to sale cupboard
🎯finish bathroom (detail painting, woodwork etc)
🎯sort some outgrown toys to pass on to friend for her toddler
🎯assignment five
🎯get report and scanning done for CAMHS referral
🎯arrange meet ups with my parents
🎯make a list with sizes etc of stuff DD1 needs like underwear

Eeeek

TheHoneyBadger · 09/08/2021 18:23

Only got a few hours sleep and am pretty non functioning today. Had a nap but still don’t feel really awake.

Ds announced he was going to gps for dinner and staying over for the first time since Covid emerged. Glad he hasn’t grown out of it and I think my dad will be chuffed. As a bonus no dinner to cook.

So totally non productive day but I’m letting myself off (a reward for the flea victory-or maybe I’m wiped out from the levels of exposure to pesticides in the last few days 🤪 )

I will be on it tomorrow.

Well done more productive fledglings. I’ll be in the naughty corner with a glass of red, a blanket and a book.

SingToTheSky · 09/08/2021 19:38

Ooh enjoy having some quiet time honey it’s nice he has that relationship with his GPs 🥰

Sorry Cossima is poorly zoo :(

Done my list, I have lots of the actual prep to do for tomorrow but the plan is done at least. This stage is all quite time consuming because it’s new - but at least once I’ve made what I need (and collected decent stuff from online) and made plans around particular topics I can keep them to reuse. Still need to figure out how to file everything.

The others will be home in about twenty minutes, till then I’m going to read.

zoo the kitchen is great thank you 🙂 nearly done, just the tiling left really and a few other finishing touches. (Don't get me started on the rest of the rooms that need doing though 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️)

Tension is rising here over A level results tomorrow. I have stress cleaned / organised all afternoon and am now sitting in bed with a stiff neck and a banging headache. I'm just desperate for DS2's results to reflect the hard work he put in turning things around after a really awful four terms at the start of the sixth form. He nearly left last November half term.

Anyway. Ta da:
❤️ 2 LOLs washed and what could be tumbled, dried
🧡 DW run after lunch and emptied while dinner cooked
💛 Chicken pies and veg for dinner
💚 DW reloaded and on again
💙 Kitchen wiped down
💜 Pants and school shirts achieved for DS3. Trousers will need another go
🤎 DM came to visit and bought us a frozen turkey joint (long story)
🖤 Dog collected from groomer's, looks very smart after his haircut.

I can't concentrate on anything and shall try to go to sleep soon.

halfhope · 09/08/2021 21:51

I hope all goes well tomorrow for your ds Willow. I'd forgotten it was that time of year. I hope your headache eases. I would think it is stress related.

halfhope · 09/08/2021 21:52

I think I'm an easy sinner Zoo!

MrsTidyHouse · 09/08/2021 22:20

Very little done yesterday and today, just the basics. Spent several hours today binge-watching a series with beautiful scenery but the most ludicrous last half-hour that I felt quite cheated by the end.

Tbh, trying to take advantage of any possible distraction from LG starting secondary next week. It's not the school we want for them, but they don't know that. It preys on my conscience that I'm not trying hard enough to drive them to the other school, but I'm old and tired.

Anyway, I'm going to bed now to find more rubbish to watch.

SingToTheSky · 09/08/2021 22:51

Aah willow I really hope it goes well 💐 regardless of the grades though he really has done very well getting through that time, and he’s already doing brilliantly in the world of work! He should be bloody proud of himself whatever letters appear on the list. 🥰

MrsT sorry the school place isn’t what you wanted for LG. Hopefully she will be ok, she’s lucky she has you to support her 💐

I should go to bed soon, I have been faffing about on my phone since I stopped lesson prep.

ta da
🥇shower
🥇loads of lesson prep/resource making etc
🥇walked to pupil’s’ house, taught and walked back after buying milk/lunch stuff
🥇reading
🥇made scary priority list for the week
🥇tried ringing volunteer client and made arrangement to speak later in the week
🥇delegated various tasks
🥇took BP (must still do evening reading before bed)
🥇booked and paid for dancing for the week

Thankfully my hand feels better where I burned it, just a bit sore but no blistering etc. Might play piano a bit even though I should clearly sleep!

tidy there are many factors why we pick secondary schools.independance is one that many parents need to include in the choices made. that's ok lovely.im sure in hindsight many can also say I wish I'd chosen a different school for my child even tho they got the choice at the time that they wantedFlowers
Foxes hurrah for functioning kitchens!after all the furore I'd be inclined to bury head in sand regarding other rooms needing doing tho

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/08/2021 06:23

*also hoping cossima
Wtf are we taking away words today instead usual letter switching

foxessocks · 10/08/2021 07:49

zoo definitely a break was needed but we will have to do the downstairs radiators before it gets cold! If I could just wave a magic wand and the rest could be done Grin

Hope you get hold of the council today 😬

I've already sprayed the landing with flea spray this morning while the dc are watching TV downstairs. I was hoping to start work early again but I took tea back to bed instead. Oh well.

New plan, drink tea in bed, then hang the washing out while the sun is shining, get another load on and then do some work until the dc want some breakfast!
