Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Oh mooses. The copied link for the zone page came up strangely on my notes app and I forgot how it would mess up the link when posted. 😳

Morning.

half you’ve reminded me ds needs a new blazer and pe tops that I’ll have to take him into town for to work out sizes so another to do, an expensive one at that and neither of us enjoy going into town. It’s grottier and more depressing with every, rare, visit.

Willow my sympathies. Fitbit says I managed just over 3 hours last night 😣 I even took Valium and melatonin.

fox still no sign of a flea here. I read this morning that the ingredient in meds like frontline makes fleas hyperactive before they die so it can appear to be worse initially but as you treated the cat a week ago definitely a good idea to spray. I’m going to keep applying frontline to animals over winter this year and spray the house again towards spring. Think prevention is a lot easier than cure.

I did most things on list yesterday but still need to take charity bag and kitchen priority 1 should be getting piles of clean laundry out of there!

No utility or dining room and no spare space here so the whole house feels like a hotspot. I’ll get there 💪🏼🙈

SingToTheSky · 09/08/2021 10:19

Right can’t get through on phone yet but will keep trying. In the meantime:

I have quickly scrolled through.....

Zoo- thats a beautiful dress, such a beautiful colour- love it!

I have spend 5 hours putting online order for school clothes and shoes....only for thinhs to go out of stock as i try to pay.....arghhh....i might have to take the kids to the shops and try and drag them around to the missing items.....throwing my self on the floor.....

TheHoneyBadger · 09/08/2021 11:58

Sure he is zoo Hmm Yes your town sounds similar. Ds hates going and always goes on about the time some woman dropped her shopping bags, pulled her knickers down and squatted and urinated in the middle of the pedestrianised high street 🙈 It ended up on the internet from people filming her. It was right in front of ds and I sat on a bench eating sandwiches. He must’ve only been 5ish but he has never forgotten and that’s his lasting impression of what ’town’ is like 😆

I usually don’t eat in the day but seem to be really hungry lately. Nothing much in the fridge and we had freezer surprise yesterday so might make spaghetti of some variety when ds gets up.

TheHoneyBadger · 09/08/2021 12:01

dancing hate it when that happens! Or when your basket mysteriously empties and you haven’t got it in you to go trawling through to find the items again.

halfhope · 09/08/2021 12:08

zoo I have suddenly realised that he starts secondary NEXT TUESDAY - argghhhh

Have all uniform and am currently organising school held meds and forms for inhaler.

halfhope · 09/08/2021 12:09

Honeybadger - I hate working out sizes but I think I'll have a better idea from this year. First year of school org is the worst and then you hit a routine.

halfhope · 09/08/2021 12:09

Need to put name on everything school related and get pens etc

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/08/2021 12:25

hope glad you were able pull things together quickly.not long now for him then.eeek

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/08/2021 12:29

Meet CHS for D's went ok.mucrophone wouldn't work so type in chat.which means no filter on D's...
Asked about OT he worked with before.he put was rubbish and pressed send before I even had chance say anything..
Asked scale 0-10 how meet was he gave 8
Asked why,mentioning medication/group sessions
She point out meds help bring people down enough to engage to which he reply shall I drop it to a 7🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He's a funny lad.embarrassing sometimes,but funnyGrin

Part baked Baguette (from storecupboard)cooked for his lunch
Oven chips in for me and dd2 with sausages and broccoli.be glad when we can shop again but no one's starving,so that's main thing!

Dancingtomusic · 09/08/2021 12:37

Do you think anyone will notice if i put dd in pinafore with a 'boys' white shirt underneath?
I have lots of white shirts ds wore last year to school and some unworn.
I noticed girls shirts have rounded edges of the shirts and pintucks. I would love to get it all, but also thinking of the still usable shirts i have got here.

Honey- 🙈

THATmamaofMANY · 09/08/2021 12:47

honey something like that happened outside my friends house the other day she just happened to look out of her window as lady was doing her buisness facing her house Shock its a busy street too!

zoo i am liking the bluntness!

hope next Tuesday is soon! Is he looking forward to it?

School wise i need to ....

📔 Order shoes for dc 3 and 4 but leaving this til last
📕 Exchange dc2s shoes for smaller size
📗 Get trousers for dc1
📘 Go to uniform shop for logo pe joggers (dc1 and 2) logo pe tshirts (dc3 and 4) and logo jumpers (dc4)
📔 All 4 need a bag
📕 Dc 3 and 1 also (i think) need trainers for pe

THATmamaofMANY · 09/08/2021 12:48

Dancing i would do that. No one will notice under a pinafore!

THATmamaofMANY · 09/08/2021 12:57

Ta da

🧺 wash on x3
🧺 washing on airers / in dryer
🍽 dishwasher empty, reloaded and back on
🍼 baby fed and changed repeatedly
🍼 bottles washed and sterilised
🍼 ordered new teats via amazon
🥘 all fed x 2
🧸 directed dc to put some toys away
🍽 cleaned away breakfast and lunch
🧹 swept living room 2
🧸 collected pile of upstairs toys for dc to take up
🚮 bin and recycling out
🚮 book heavy waste collection
🧺 collect all remaining dirty washing

halfhope · 09/08/2021 12:58

Go with sustainability Dancing - use up the white shirts

foxessocks · 09/08/2021 13:00

dancing my dd has been wearing shirts far too small for her (in length, they aren't actually uncomfortable for her or at least she hasn't said so!) under a pinafore for ages because you can't see much of the shirt so I thought I'd save Mt money 🤷‍♀️😂 I think boys shirts would be absolutely fine!

Honey that makes sense about the fleas going a bit crazy, I also read that hoovering makes them go a bit mad so all the extra hoovering we are doing may make it seem worse for a bit. I thought dh was doing the annual flea treatment but he did confess he forgot this last one. Prevention definitely better than cure, we've not seen a flea for years and years before this (last time was when we moved into this house 8 years ago and I actually think they were already here as it sorted itself out once we'd ripped up all the horrible carpets! Our cat didn't seem effected that time, this time she was very agitated for a while)

Anyway the spray has arrived and I've used it in ds bedroom so far as the cat and the dc are downstairs so need to wait until they are out of the way. Plus I'm supposed to be working so hard better concentrate...

Ta das in my small work breaks:
Online food shop / finalised meal plan
Dishwasher on
Cushions hung up
More cushions in wash
Made us all some lunch
Booked flu jab

Can't believe how much mess the dc have created downstairs 😱 they've got all the clean blankets out so I'm going to have to wash them all again now.

I also need to get think about ordering school uniform.

TheHoneyBadger · 09/08/2021 13:02

Sizes with trousers and shirts are ok but blazers are about chest size which really tells me nothing about overall fit. Ds is 14 and 5ft10 and quite broad from muscle development now. They didn’t have to have blazers last year due to uniform shop being shut for ages due to Covid and our head being sympathetic to the additional financial difficulties families were facing with Covid. The year before that he still had a boys body.

Really not got a clue without taking him and trying stuff on. Hopefully we can find one that doesn’t look stupid but will last him for the remaining two school years.

TheHoneyBadger · 09/08/2021 13:05

Apparently after spraying you still want to do regular hoovering as the vibrations push them to the surface and hatch eggs so they all come in contact with the spray remaining on the carpet. Bloody things!

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/08/2021 13:12

honey so much bloody work once fleas get a grip.i remver my first house carpets were riddled.in end had rip them up was so bad I just could not get on top of them they were literally hopping and you could see them bouncing around

Dancing I'd deffo do it!rounded edges are quite a new thing..dd2 had unisex polo shirts,as did dd1.lil zoo was only bothered by comfort

SingToTheSky · 09/08/2021 13:48

Boys shirts totally fine. The only reason I bought the girly fit ones for DD1 was so I could tell them apart quicker in the wash 🤣

Maths was great. Glad it stopped raining before I left as I hadn’t brought a coat!
