Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Well done Sing

My list has been somewhat ignored but I cooked lunch and dinner and have been refreshing my soul with a mostly screen free day reading. Reading is something I've managed to do lots of in the holidays, I don't normally seem to have the head space or concentration and tend to just zone out to stuff on netflix or wherever.

Ds has been on it with the dw without too much moaning and once he puts our dinner plates in it should be ready to be turned on. Just letting my dinner go down then I need to go fold dry laundry and hang out wet stuff before it gets stinky in the machine and annoy ds further by asking him to put his clean clothes away Smile

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/08/2021 19:03

Zoo that dress is stunning

foxessocks · 08/08/2021 20:10

Ah honeybadger we've had a problem with fleas here too this last week, I'm waiting for a new spray to arrive so I can blitz the house. Been hoovering non stop. Cat was treated a week ago now. Aren't they just so bloody annoying?! Angry

Lovely dress zoo!

Again I'm so sorry for being awol so much recently. I have fallen well and truly OFF the flylady wagon. There has been a lot going on.

Next week I think we have a slightly less busy week, I'm going to try and get back on top of things (number one priority is total flea removal)

SingToTheSky · 08/08/2021 20:33

Thanks I have somewhat crashed this afternoon and have done nothing but scroll my phone and eat chocolate peanuts 😳🤣

Must put my damn phone down and complete power of three…

I definitely have that “ugh Sunday night and a new week ahead with too much to do” feeling. Not usually such a problem in the holidays but oh well Hmm

Yes they are Fox - really hoping I've cracked it now. Haven't seen one at all today so it's a good start. I was worrying they'd become resistant to all usual treatments and I'd never be rid of them.

That dress is lovely - I got a bit confused about whose it was and who it was for sorry.

MrsTidyHouse · 08/08/2021 21:30

zoo gorgeous dress!

Siing thanks for linking.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/08/2021 21:57

honey the dress is for me to wear to dd1 wedding in just under 3weeks x

halfhope · 08/08/2021 21:59

😍 at the dress zoo - gorgeous.

halfhope · 08/08/2021 22:00

Am getting my rear end in gear for the coming week. Have been AWOL I know...

SingToTheSky · 08/08/2021 22:00

I did complete the power of three. Was contemplating another one but played some more piano instead. Just had a “screw the to do list” moment and it definitely renewed my spirit 😁🥰

I've barely kept up with things this weekend. House is starting to get out of control, and I need to reclaim my territory back tomorrow.
I hate having a messy house. It stresses me out. Hoping to be on top of the home bleugh by the end of Tuesday. Wish me luck.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 08/08/2021 22:31

Evening all,

That dress is gorgeous Zoo Flowers.

I am planning an early night, I don't feel as if I have achieved much this weekend so thought I'd write a tada! list to prove to myself that I have done some things.

Despatched DCs on yet more different paper rounds (they have been covering different rounds due to SI/holidays, last one today thank goodness).

Took DS to work
Sainsburys shop - not too much as kitchen still not fully in use
Unload and put away shopping
3 x LOL
Lots of stuff fetched from garden shed, unboxed and put in kitchen cupboards and drawers.
Lunch
Picked up DS from work
More kitchen sorting
Took DS to football (out of the house for 3 hours)
Ate dinner (cooked by DH)
Half an hour at the allotment weeding
Put bins out
Far too much time faffing on MN.
Enrolled DS on a work experience thing in October half term and spent a while googling generally on his behalf.
Cancelled milk (got a glut)

Didn't put away any laundry, put clothes out for tomorrow, or make my packed lunch. Oh well.

halfhope · 08/08/2021 23:03

I am, a bit, sing. Busy with work and have to collect stuff for Ds's return to school later this month. House is cleanish. Will be thinking of your house reclamation MC - Monday is not a good home bleurgh day for me so may leave to Tuesday.

halfhope · 08/08/2021 23:21

Not sure if it's been mentioned but there is an android version of the Flylady app now called FlyladyPlus. I find it quite good and as far as I can see it's free.

HazelNuttyElf · 08/08/2021 23:29

Swiffer wet jet, pic attached. It's good for a quick clean, although I prefer bucket of soapy water, rag and wash on my hands and knees.

zoo I love the dress, it's gorgeous 😍

I'm stuck babysitting, the toddler has no rules and structure so I'm done having them here, just fucking say please and sit at the table to eat your God Damn cookie 🤬 and stop telling me no! But the dad is helping DH, so I really can't complain too much.

halfhope · 08/08/2021 23:53

I agree Hazelnutty - I have one of the swiffer yokes but prefer a good scrub. Proper charlady I am! Hard going with that toddler. They are hard work at the best of times but one without structure who is rampant is very testing 😳

THATmamaofMANY · 09/08/2021 00:06

Ah its like a spray mop? I have one of those.

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/08/2021 00:09

Do not envy you with the toddler Hazel

SingToTheSky · 09/08/2021 00:49

I read that as Allotment Wedding ED - would be an interesting venue for one!

Aaargh hazel hope you are free of toddlersitting soon 😬

Finally off to bed, just wanted to note my achievements today.

ta da
🥳Finished assignment 4
🥳Neatened up some painting in the bathroom (not finished but good progress)
🥳Laundry away
🥳Got DS to do laundry
🥳Ran DW
🥳Quick tidy of living room including delegating various chores to Caglets
🥳Ordered various things for the bathroom like a hand towel hook
🥳Finally got up to date with my teaching record!
🥳Checked theatre ticket availability - this was the last of the fifteen things on the week’s priority list so I’m done yay!
🥳Checked BP twice - the good news is I’m halfway through and I’ve managed a full week of not forgetting at all, the bad news is my readings are high… I used to have low BP so something has gone wrong somewhere
🥳Lots of piano playing!

Not a bad day at all. And for once I’ve actually managed to complete a proper to do list! I’d hoped it would only take a few days, but I’m still chuffed it’s all done in a week. I’ve been noting down ideas for my next set of fifteen things but when I’m more awake I need to go through it as some things aren’t quite a priority yet (like scout badges… any excuse to avoid sewing the bloody things on! But in my defence scouts isn’t back for a few weeks!). Loads of general stuff to do too, tutoring, clubs blah blah.

Must sleep. 🥱 Night all!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 09/08/2021 07:20

Morning all. I think I've hit the peri-menopause insomnia, another night where I don't know why I bothered to go to bed. Have been awake 90 mins already.

Zoo what a beautiful dress, you will look lovely in it.

Hazel I don't envy you a structure-free toddler. Hope the dust is over soon!

Sing you got loads done! How is bathroom looking over all, is it feeling more like a nice place to be?

ED that's a busy weekend even without spending Saturday out! Glad you got some kitchen bits back in and were able to get up to the allotment.

Hope good to see you again! How is DS feeling about school now? I have tried the Flylady android app and it's exposed a weakness in the system for me - she never puts washing away. I'd never noticed that before.

Mc good luck finding the house.

Honey, foxes hope the fleas can be vanquished and this week is not too mad.

That I have always been of the opinion they should graft an extra arm on every time you give birth. It would make life so much easier! Hope the baby is less grumpy today.

I have attached a picture of our nocturnal visitor - a hedgehog the size of a broom! The dog was going bananas in the garden at about 10.30 last night, and this time he had good reason, there was a spiky interloper in his space.

No ta das yet.

Willow Brew sympathies on the poor sleep. Was a crap night here too. Think i slept 1130-1230 / 1-330 / 430-6 🧟‍♀️

foxessocks · 09/08/2021 07:42

Good morning! I have already hoovered downstairs to get rid of any lurking fleas so the dc can sit and watch tv for a bit while I start work. Starting early to get the hours in now so I can try and have most of weds off. Not much childcare available this week so it's going to be tricky, I had planned it but my mum has gone to visit my brother and my dad decided 2 children and their 2 dogs might be too much for him alone, I think he might pop over here and entertain the dc for me for a while though 🙂

I am keeping everything crossed the flea spray arrives today, we had ordered one ages ago but they delivered it to completely the wrong address ( a different county in fact!) Angry so we've ordered another one and they are also resending the original one. One of them will surely arrive today!?
We thought they were going because the cat is now treated with prescription stuff from the vet which is working much better but there was suddenly more over the weekend. It's driving me mad. If the flea spray doesn't make a difference I'm calling in a professional!

Right I must get a heartstart on work now and will be stopping and doing odd jobs whenever possible. Might have a look at that flylady app.

🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿

Morning everyone, welcome to a new week! It’s week 3 of the holidays for us, but must be week 6ish in Scotland? How about in the US Hazel?

FLIGHTPLAN

We are now in 2: The Kitchen zone 2 - the kitchen - do declutter there if you need, but remember it’s only necessary to do 15 minutes a day - it’ll come round again! It didn’t get messy in a day and it won’t get fixed in a day either.

Here are the missions. Today’s is cleaning the cabinets - wiping the doors.

Don’t forget our habit of the month for August is doing a LOL every day! But as Willow pointed out, we do also need to put it away at some point 🤣 why is that always the most difficult bit?
