Minnie, welcome! Glad you got everyone to go back to bed, 5.35 is def too early to be up with people. Zoo is our cleaning dynamo, she puts us all to shame.

Trying to have a BH lie in here, but DS3 (10) has appeared asking for pancakes, twice, so I'd best get up. He did at least bring me a cup of tea before asking the first time!

Up you've got a strong-minded one there! Are you on the beach, in your dressing gown, now?

Sing as far as town, eh? You had better read her AA Milne's James James Morrison Morrison. You might find it useful too, Up - "you must never go down to the end of the town without consulting me!".

SingToTheSky · 31/05/2021 09:19

Ohh willow I think I might still have the When we were very young/now we are six poetry book somewhere 🥰

Right. Cagletini is happily watching Paddington 2 (technically she’s seen it before... my parents took us all to see it when she was about 2 weeks old, we may have napped in the comfy seat!) and I’m feeling like a list is a good idea today.

TO DO
❗️Get rid of old hairbrushes on top of kitchen cupboards
❗️Sort through the boxes that were filled with the stuff from the drawers
❗️Start filling the clean drawers - not quite sure what’s going where
❗️Hand wash cycle in WM - bras etc
❗️Get Caglets to strip beds and wash bedding - later they can remake them with the new mattress protectors
❗️Make sure DD1 tidies her room a bit
❗️Try and figure out how to store all the big utensils
❗️Declutter and clean out the actual cutlery drawer
❗️Sort some stuff to recycle (old notebooks etc)
❗️Gather all activity books in one place and decide which to get rid of
❗️Rehome various things from the BRCs/kitchen drawers
❗️Help DS make some progress in his room - he now has the extra incentive that the Lego set he’s saved for is arriving this week, so to clear a shelf for that would be excellent! Not sure exactly what tasks are needed yet though.

Daytrogen · 31/05/2021 09:34

Welcome newbies!

Thank you all again for being so kind, and you’re right I will be just fine. Sorry I went away for a couple of day’s, my family came down to visit so I was busy. Still no contact from him🙄. I plan to have a BBQ today with the DC, the weather is gorgeous

EversoDelighted · 31/05/2021 10:16

Thanks Sing - yes, I went fairly early on purpose and hung around the end where people were still arriving and setting up their cars, there was a bit of that going on, "got any Lego?", rummaging through boxes. I was also trying to gauge the level of haggling going on and just generally earwigging, people were saying it was quiet compared to the Sunday ones, but a lot of cars were still arriving as I left. I was amazed at some of the stuff that was being sold, half used tins of paint etc, things I would never have thought of. I managed to only spend a fiver....

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 31/05/2021 10:16

Wow, that's a long list Sing, good luck!

Although thinking of both lego and boys' rooms I need to put these things on my list:
🦆 Help DS3 start clearing his room - we need two new velux windows in there starting on June 8th and he will have to move into DS1's room for the duration
🦆 Sort out some of the lego in DS2's room while he is house sitting
🦆 Clean up more peri peri sauce from DS2's room. Mutter.
🦆 Clear the top of our wardrobes further. This will include going through boxes of precious stuff

For newbies, I have 4DC (19, 18, 16 and 10) a DH and an Idiot Hound. DS1 is away at Uni, before you suspect me of foisting DS3 unfairly onto DS1 in his actual bed!

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/05/2021 10:47

Urgh... insomnia is the worst.... gone 4am before i fell asleep. My back absolutely hates me. And today is deal with the garden day. Teen is supposed to help me but for sure he is not up yet.

Welcome to the newbies!

ED yes we left it too late in the season and it was horrific. we brought most stuff back home.

Up 'its ok I can go to the beach myself Grin Bless the cotton socks GrinGrin

Glad you are managing to figure things out Day

I should move, i don't want to. But coffee and physio exercises are needed. And I need to open the car windows so it is bareable later.
Someone is out in the garden and they keep slamming the door

SingToTheSky · 31/05/2021 11:05

Spending only a fiver is very disciplined indeed ed!

Right I’m running out of steam a bit on my kitchen organisation so I’m going to take a break

EversoDelighted · 31/05/2021 11:06

£1 entry, £2 cup of tea, £2 garden tool.

Redsquirrel5 · 31/05/2021 11:07

Sorry I have fallen off the thread.

I have been busy but not so much in the house and it shows though I HAD the dining room nearly finished until someone decided to dump washing in there yesterday. Granted he had folded some and paired socks. So I need to shift that today. Glorious weather here yesterday and today.
Went to a club plant sale...oh yes I did tell you about this on Saturday but lost the post! Some bargains to be had mainly grown by a lady quite a bit older than me. She was lovely and a bit dithery I really like her and look forward to getting to know her when we are allowed back to gardening club. Tea, coffee and homemade cake on offer too. Met my friend and then we went for lunch afterwards. Plants are now in the garden or greenhouse depending on stage. Tomato plants are growing well.
Just painted the edge of the back door.

Ta da today
Up at a decent hour.
Stripped bed.
Washing in
Sheets and duvet on line.
LOL x navy or black in.
Washed breakfast things( had it in the Summerhouse which was lovely as I forgot to shut the doors last night. So sunny with a light breeze and 30 C.
Need to get on with next lot as DH has gone to bottle bank.

He is helping loads in the garden and is so pleased about me loving greenhouse. Enjoy pottering in it.

Made delicious Jamie Oliver meatloaf different one to last time and have that for tea with salad. Had it last night with sweet potatoes and it had a tomato and chickpea sauce. Great way to use mince. I used lamb and pork mixed. Tasty.

Right need to crack on then will catch up on all the chatter later.

Redsquirrel5 · 31/05/2021 11:10

Oooh Ed have you been to a car boot sale? They haven’t started here there is one on a Sunday morning 2 miles away bit mixed some real tat but some great books, plants etc as well.

StillUpholding · 31/05/2021 11:14

I managed to talk her out of it thankfully as it’s chilly and foggy for a third day in a row. I do feel sorry for the day trippers who’ve been pitching up from 20 odd degree sunshine for a day at the coast to find it’s about 10 degrees and you can barely see a few metres in front of you. It looks like it’s actually lifting today though.

Zoo it can get busy on a hot bank holiday weekend but it’s more the traffic that’s an issue. The beach in front of us is very small (you can walk it’s length in a couple of minutes) but it’s in a little bay which is pretty shallow unless it’s a very high tide and great for kids swimming, paddle boards etc. Even on the busiest days you can still find a spot though, and today for example, even though the car park is already full there are only currently 5 families actually sitting on it. We are really lucky as there are lots of bigger, more scenic beaches around us and even on hot weekends you can usually find one that’s pretty deserted. Here, since DD seems to have forgotten the idea you can have her biggest spade for the Zoolet’s Dad —>

ED we’ve done a few car boot sales. I’d say it’s worth doing if you have lots of junk you want rid of. It’s more lucrative to sell things like computer games, branded clothes, Lego, China etc on eBay but obviously more time consuming, but you’ll definitely get the professional boosters snapping that sort of thing up if you just want rid. The last time we did one we gave all of our unsold stuff to a regular seller who has a hug van (and apparently multiple storage units!) and was happy to take it all so we went home with a profit (about £70 I think) but no junk.

Hope you get help from the teen Hills.

I’ve been feeling really ropey over the last few days and have done nothing but I’m feeling better today and me and DH have just done a blitz of the house.

I did:
💥 yesterday’s dishes Blush
💥 LOL washed and on line
💥 a bit of ironing and putting away of clean clothes
💥 thoroughly cleaned bathroom
💥 wiped over bathroom bin
💥 general upstairs tidy.

DH has done downstairs including the floors, and he’s just stuck some jacket potatoes in for lunch. We are heading out for a family walk this afternoon followed by an early pub tea.

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/05/2021 11:27

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/05/2021 11:29

Right,I need cut back grass as we heard, bit couldn't see ,hedgehogs out there last night!

SingToTheSky · 31/05/2021 12:05

Lovely pics! And I’m jealous of hearing hedgehog snuffles 🦔

Well the opticians cancelled DD1’s appt so I’ve booked her into dance later instead and she’s got a bit longer to hang out with her friend. I’m gradually doing bits of sorting in the kitchen - bit tired so frequent rests between tasks. It’s amazing how much I can get done that way without a flare up if I’m careful.

Next up is working out which utensils to put in a drawer and which to keep in pots. Ideally I’d like hanging space but I know that won’t happen for a while so need a solution for the meantime. ATM it just gets messy super fast and we don’t really have a system for where things go, which means lots of searching for things!

Stilllivinginazoo · 31/05/2021 12:45

sing you are going great gunsStar
Back grass cut.oh.my.lord.poor Flymo and 12" in places grass is a proper workout!!I can't trim perfectly as aqua liger(sp?) Have taken over the edges in places and are far too pretty to execute!
We have space,I forget howucb bigger it looks freshly mowed.ds was on grassbox emptying at bottom of garden duty(we let end stay wild for nature purposes anyway)and lug 8x full of in places heavy wet grass down for me(he's not good with weight and finds it extra heavy/painful so proud he helped as my joints very sore today, esp shoulders )tabby cat sat watching us intently from doorstep (for newbies we have 3cats,two indoors one who goes out) I think she knows this means early tomorrow she will get her chance to harness up and have a little stroll in the cool dawn grass💞

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 31/05/2021 12:59

Labels, Sing. Label your pots. You know, with that label maker you're insisting you don't need (mine is the highlight of my organisational life) 😉

EversoDelighted · 31/05/2021 13:03

Aquilegia, yes, it's very pretty. It self seeds and pops up randomly here, we have got a very pretty pink one growing out of the joint between the house corner and the patio. We need to cut the grass too, this No Mow May business started off with good intentions but the garden feels so cramped with it long and looks messy.

There were lots of plants at the car boot sale, but I really don't need any more. I take the point about the higher value stuff doing better on Ebay, I don't know how to do Ebay but it can't be that hard, we have some old childhood toys of mine that we should definitely take the Ebay route for. Clothes we tend to charity shop, as we buy fairly cheap in the first place. A lot of our stuff is literally just household clutter, a spare dishwasher cutlery basket, thermos flasks, lots of random crap.

Welcome Minnie - i've posted the links above so you may have some idea of how the system works (though we follow it very loosely)

I'm not great at posting tadas but I love reading what everyone has achieved.

Lovely pictures of the walk home zoo but I'm fanning myself at the 2 hour timeframe. You must be army fit!

I'm just heading into dealing with the teen years with ds being 12 and heading to secondary in August. I also have a dh who likes ironing so I feel blessed. He does clean but not as thoroughly as my high standards would like. He also breaks things/ knocks things over constantly but I'm used to that!

I'm in work today but am just tidying up a few house admin things in lunchtime.

halfhope · 31/05/2021 13:44

I'm going to look at label makers...
