Fledglings May 2021 thread: MAYbe we’ll keep our routines going as the outside world opens up 😊

Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Or just stay the fuck out of the kitchen and if you feel guilty there are 2 bathrooms, a lounge that can be dusted and stairs that need damp dusting...

I am happy to delegate pots, but typically it is on a pot by pot basis and correct washing up sponge handed to them.

Currently dosing up on more anti histamines after another accidental exposure.

Dancingtomusic · 04/05/2021 21:15

hills- i imagine you in a hazmat suit...

Hope u are ok?

sending drink 🍷🍷🍷 or Gin

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/05/2021 21:34

I have lost my voice, and my joints are swelling.
Have a serious case of the grumps.
fed up of making food for the people and ending up with toast because i have no energy to cook for me, no inspiration as to what to cook for me

Yeah I'll be fine

SingToTheSky · 04/05/2021 21:36

Oh no hills 😭💐

Currently summoning the energy to watch a bit of Doctor Strange with DS. Bedtime was a bit disastrous with stroppy Cagletini although we managed to end on a good note with a quick game of I spy. Was all going beautifully with some phonics thrown in although we did laugh at “I spy with my little eye something beginning with... lellow” 😂🥰

Dancingtomusic · 04/05/2021 21:36

Red- yay holiday packing...all rainy weather clothes. Are you excited to go? I will miss you. Take care. Hope you have a wonderful time.
Zoo- is your back ok, its horrible you jarred it. You deserve all the wine gums! Would a hot water bottle help?
Half- i think my dd must be part irish as she love potato....all the time.
Ships- hello.
Ouch rash under your arms sounds painful. Hope it settles down quickly
Ed- great you have ordered the new kitchen! Its so exciting! Was is your Ds with a migraine? Hope he is ok?
Foxes- it must be very exciting to have a empty kitchen and a bit daunting too. May all the dust settle quickly and stay on the floor.
Hazel- hope all the packing is going well!
Mc- weldone for planting potatoes? Have they grown or are they growing?
Sing- i hope you are feeling better lovely?

I hate bedtimes with kids..
There i said it...i am sick of them. (Sulk)

🍒👋 waders, up, that, double, Sc and anyone else I have missed.

Exhusted my body today doing too much. It felt broken... and was late to pick up the kids from school.

Mc3209 · 04/05/2021 22:23

Hills oh no, that is frustrating. Stay safe, lovely, and keep those meds where you can reach them easily.
Dancing I wish I was green thumb-ed enough to successfully grow spuds. Unfortunately, just getting through the laundry mountain made me feel as if I was toiling in the fields.
Bedtimes can be tricky. What were your little ones up to?
My DS was so knackered he went to sleep without having his bedtime feed (he did have an unscheduled snack of a banana in the evening). I thought he would wake up after a book, but no. Now I have a big full boob, so if he doesn't wake up for it soon, will need to pump. I guess he will let me know when he is hungry.
Ships that sounds sore. I hope it goes away soon.
Red have fun on your trip!

Redsquirrel5 · 04/05/2021 23:15

🤗 Dancing thank you. Yes bag all packed and have just booked a little tiny cottage on Airbnb quite chuffed with myself as I am not good at doing things on the Internet. It looks cute and I know roughly where it is. DS2 will come back and stay on Sunday night. So I need somewhere for two of us. Sitting room with sofa bed, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Just off the high street. There was one nearer my sister but it was just a man and I wasn’t sure as I have lost trust in people.
Two coats and a very warm jumper. I haven’t decided on shoes yet. Meds packed.

Hills do you have an epi pen? Awful for you. Was it the people you live with? They should know better.

Ships ouch sounds painful. Anti histamine?

Mc thanks. You could stand in a hot shower and it will run after a few minutes. That is what I used to do with DD.

ED I nearly asked you yesterday. I would go with the bigger one too. I have a 110i. Expensive though. I couldn’t believe DH would even consider it. I have some work top on the left and less on the right because of the baking cupboard but more when it is open that I keep for mixer and space for scales. I can’t believe some of the kitchens on the Everhotties site.

Leaving at 9 am so not sure if I will have time to post.
🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒🧁🍒🧁🍒to everyone.

shipsngiggles · 04/05/2021 23:21

half I’ve tried some antihistamines and it’s helped a bit, but before I realised it was an allergic reaction I was scratching so the skin is really sore. I’ve put some balm on it and it’s got better, hopefully by tomorrow it’ll be all gone. I used some of my DM’s sure deodorant the other day but I’m used to making my own which is much kinder to my skin, so I just won’t make that mistake again!.

Oh no hills that sounds awful💐 I hope the meds are helping!

Aww how cute is Cagletini sing!

I’m not sure if I said before but I hope you have a brill time away red, so glad you decided to go!

Thank you dancing! Sorry about bedtime being a pain, I completely get how you feel!

Thanks mc I think it’ll be gone in a couple of days!

red antihistamine has definitely made it better, but just need to treat the soreness now!

I haven’t been doing well with flying, I’ve been feeling quite unmotivated recently. But DH and I have a plan to get back on track tomorrow, and I’m going to write up the zones and how to apply them to the boat. So hopefully I’ll stick to it more.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/05/2021 23:41

Yes the people i live with, yes they should know better, has this happened before yep and it will probably will happen again but this is why the rule is do anything but the washing up. You can load the dishwasher. leave the rest. because that rule has half a chance of being remembered. But they dont remember. And they try to "help"

No epi pen here so a massive reaction is going to be an ambulance job. which is something i would like to avoid.

ta da
a long chat with a good friend full of laughs inappropriateness and cunning plans.

Failed to do -early night

HazelNuttyElf · 05/05/2021 05:49

hills I hope you're feeling better soon, I'm surprised you don't have an epi-pen since your reaction is so severe.
Sing your list is impressive, especially when you didn't have motivation earlier.

I got quite a bit packed up from the kitchen today, DD helped this evening as well. We are signing our papers (closing) and exchanging keys on Friday. I have to work that day so most of the last minute stuff will be down to DH and DC.

We have moved a lot of stuff to our storage unit, got a 2nd one rented as well and we'll be picking up a uhaul trailer, that's enclosed, tomorrow.
Electrician came Monday, and today (Tuesday) DD noticed it smelt like dog pee in the living room. She had peed in her kennel 😡 but she probably got worked up because someone was in the house without us there. I have given her a bath, washed her blankets and bedding, and also had to rewash the blanket and bed that was in the kennel as it still stank. It's actually still going, I did a hot wash on it. Hopefully that'll work 🤞
🍒👋 to everyone. Sorry there weren't more personals, I've been trying to catch up but it's a little hectic here.

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/05/2021 06:18

redbon voyage.hills a pick me up chat with friend is as valuable as sleep

upincloud9 · 05/05/2021 06:50

Could I join you all please? I’m expecting DC2 next month and I’m nesting something rotten. It’s driving me insane haha I’m always feeling like I’ve forgot something or more needs to be done so having a set routine could help me out a bit 👋🏻

SingToTheSky · 05/05/2021 07:02

Hi cloud welcome! How exciting about DC2, how old is your first? 😊

Hills a chat can be so restorative! 💐

Training today. Last one with the actual trainer (next week is safeguarding which is outsourced) - sad to be coming to the end of it!

SingToTheSky · 05/05/2021 07:04

At the beginning of each session we tell each other something good that has happened that week and something we need to set aside... the latter for me will be my massive to do list 😬 there’s so much I should be doing. It’s got to the stage where I’m even cleaning to avoid filling in forms... 😱😂

SingToTheSky · 05/05/2021 08:48

Ugh. So sleepy. I actually dozed on and off until around 8.

po3.1
1️⃣get documents together for DBS check - hopefully I have enough!

StillUpholding · 05/05/2021 09:07

Morning fledglings. I woke up with a serious case of cantbearseditis but powered through a few ta das:
✔️ s&s upstairs
✔️ DW emptied
✔️ breakfast sorted
✔️ remained calm during a random tantrum that DD’s water was too cold 🤷‍♀️. She seemed to temporarily revert back to a toddler but fingers crossed seems to have settled.
✔️ clean washing carried up and an LOL in
✔️ our bed stripped

Was about to get us both dressed and head out for a top up shop but DD has asked if we can have the quilt downstairs and who I am to object Blush

Aims for today:
Shopping
Make soup
Meal plan
Keep the place vaguely tidy
Get DD to make a birthday card and thank you cards
Play in the garden if the weather holds up
Make a phonecall
Get birthday cards and banners down

Tidy you are flying with the decluttering. It’s a bit addictive isn’t it? The more you do the easier it gets.

Hills lovely that you managed a giggle with a friend. That always cheers me up. I used to have a bottle padlock thing to stop DH drinking my posh vodka years ago (as a joke, he’s not an alcoholic Grin). You need one for the washing up liquid!

Good list Sing. I’d definitely rather clean that tackle forms.

Welcome Cloud!

Hope the armpits are recovering Ships.

So close to moving day Hazel, hope all goes smoothly. I think you can be forgiven for minimal personals at the minute.

Enjoy your time away Red

Waves to Hope, Zoo, ED, Mc, Willow, Dancing, Merry, Foxes, That

Should really move. Urgh.

Dancingtomusic · 05/05/2021 09:09

I do that too Sing I would rather clean than do paperwork....🤣
Hope you have a lovely training session.

Cloud hi 👋 Welcome. The routine reminders, here are very helpful.

Zoo- glad your oven door glass didnt shatter. Here the bit of floor I did tidy and clean...is littered with papers and pencil crayons again. Dd loves drawing and creating.

Ed- sorry for the crossed post with me yesterday. what colour everhot did you go for?

Mc - my dc are lovely and they had afterschool lesson yesterday, so they were alittle tired.
My dh decided to take them kite flying at 5.30pm. 🤦‍♀️They didnt come back until 7.45pm. Then I fed them dinner. Ds insisted on reading his new school book to me and they writing out his spelling test for the next day. I am very proud of him doing this but it was bedtime and I had to tidy up the kitchen.
Dd just wanted to carry on drawing and colouring designs for kites. So the ds was great getting ready for bed. Dd needs alittle encouragement. I plan to have them in bed by 7pm but it never happens. Their natural sleep time is 8.40pm-9pm. I was grumpy from my achey bones and sick of messing up bedtimes.
On a bright note, dd was awake at 6.25am and was ready for school by 7.35am - miracle! We made it to school before the gates had opened!
🍒👋everyone

Dancingtomusic · 05/05/2021 09:13

🤣 cantbearseditis....i think its catching!
