Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Don't rule out soft play when they hit 2-3 as sometimes it can be a life saver to burn some energy off if you are not feeling it. A local leisure centre had a brilliant one which could cope with 3 LITTLE kids at a time. And literally save my sanity occasionally.

Hills 🤣

I’m a bit concerned that since I can’t have a cat I will become Crazy Plant Lady instead.

halfhope · 20/05/2021 18:52

I currently have 7 out of 7 living plants. That is a record.

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 20/05/2021 18:58

It's less to clean up tbf Sing.
No litter boxes, no food costs. If i had to chose i think crazy plant lady would be my choice and that is even factoring the cost of all the ones i have killed.

Well Done hope

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 19:14

But they aren’t as cuddly and they don’t make cute purring noises 🥺😭

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/05/2021 19:20

I have currently 3cats and 2plants in my care

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 19:36

Phew. The hectic day is done. Just waiting for a takeaway - well deserved by all of us I feel, but mostly due to DD1’s lovely parents’ evening feedback :o

Now I’m not actually putting an order or anything (we have a garden centre a short walk away so I’d rather just browse there and presumably there’d be much bigger choice) but does anyone have any thoughts on these from the house plant section...?

Sing I have managed to keep an african violet alive for years! It is big lush and flowers. fuck knows how i have managed it. but it does seem rather happy. I want to see if i can root some leaf cuttings this summer. It's on the to do list

Chlorophytum is the botanical name for spider plant. I can keep those alive. get one and you have the potential for hundreds. if you remember to pot them up from the water rooting phase Blush

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/05/2021 19:48

Killed alovea - they light good sunlight, and consistant water irrc correctly. Also not too much watering

Ditto re hawther ... fingy. Although not direct sunlight for that one.
I have a parlour palm but fook knows if that the the next one in your picture. I tend to remember the common names rather then the pretenious botanical names

halfhope · 20/05/2021 20:14

Okay swish and swipe and Tesco shop done. Still have not touched zone 3! Have tomorrow and Saturday to do it.

Hope I am bracing myself for tears when the nursery time rolls around.
Hills that's good to know about the soft play. Looks like I still have a bit of time before I need to show up there.
Sing good luck with the houseplants! I only know about ficus, kalanchoe, succulents, and bonsai. All of which were either impulse buy or ended up with me in the unplanned manner.

I haven't actually done any cleaning today..

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 23:16

I would love a bonsai but I don’t think I have the capacity for the care involved 😳 maybe one day though.

ta da
🌸helped get Cagletini ready
🌸reminded DD1 to do her second LOL
🌸watched documentary with DS
🌸phoned taxi firm to find out costs to get to and from jab
🌸got DS to do DW and re-bag the clothes rags as the bag had split, then I put them in the cupboard as we can’t take them anywhere yet
🌸hung various coats and bags in the cupboard
🌸bagged up all DD1’s stuff from bottom of stairs for her to take up when home
🌸removed random crap from phone shelf and hallway in general - small amount of stash and dash but mostly binned or put away
🌸cleaned phone shelf, phone/base and router
🌸emptied and cleaned out mask basket, replaced only with clean masks and hand gel
🌸found jar for chalk pens (for wall planner) and diary pen and put next to diary
🌸unpacked delivery of bedtime story books and binned packaging
🌸cleaned whiteboard (not hung up anywhere atm but had stuff on it)
🌸got DS to stash and dash on the landing
🌸dusted skirting/radiator/trofast on landing
🌸hoovered landing
🌸smartened up two biggest pot plants from kitchen and moved to landing with pot trays
🌸dusted skirting and handrails on stairs (DH hoovered them)
🌸found photo of vaccine card
🌸swept part of hallway and replaced delivery boxes (not getting the contents out till next week)
🌸responded to message about piano and messaged current pupils’ parents
🌸cleared out buggy basket
🌸dusted skirting/radiator in hallway
🌸put clean laundry away
🌸gathered dirty laundry
🌸ordered new reed diffusers
🌸replied to email
🌸sent DH link for parents evening appts, panicked as camera wouldn’t work but managed to attend nonetheless
🌸set alarms for DS to leave for tap with friend, and another to leave the park next door if they have time to play first
🌸hurried walk to town to get bus as stupidly left it too late for a taxi... oh well it’s exercise
🌸booked Cagletini’s 3y jabs as they called me when I was on the bus (must remember to add to diary!)
🌸got Pfizered for the second time
🌸quick top up shop (ok... mainly chocolate shop)
🌸4x parents evening appts online
🌸bath stories bed with Cagletini

Really pleased with the nice clean hallway and landing. I was planning on getting a head start on the bathroom by soaking the sealant (cotton wool/bleach) overnight but I’m knackered.

Morning lovlies Brew

You all seem to be getting lots done and i am still stuck achieving very little

Thanks for the kind words re the uni work, unfortunately i haven't touched it since Sad i keep putting it off. So my aim this morning after dc are at school is to sit and try and do the next section. 🤞 that i find my brain, maybe the rain ☔ will wake me up as its a full on downpour here!

I hate soft play. Ours is always very busy and too many people take their kids and seem to think they don't need to supervise them 🙄

halfhope · 21/05/2021 06:48

Hi that the air pressure sometimes gives me brain fog and then the rain comes and my head feels clearer too. Hopefully the next section will go well. I've been up early as thorny work problem on list so I'll need to crack on with things. Coffee first. ☕☕☕

Will be back with links

Today we are back ED clinic for weight and checks with lil zoo.she asked dad if would take us esp as weather's vile.he has agreed, but I've put in oproviso if he's not go show I need know by 8am so we've still time for the 11/2 hour walk there.hes also agreed to taxi for shopping too,and potentially lend dd2 credit card for Primark purchases
We shall see if any of this actually happens
Meanwhile back in real life,I need get lil zoo up and fed shortly and write shop list should be get to venture to sainsbo.we occasionally nip in on foot but it's too far to buy fridge/frozen if walking
M+s is round the corner and j may feel obliged pop in there and buy my favourite iced buns with jammy middles
Zoolets have optician later today,so no school for lil zoo as I felt best to inform them we didn't have a lift In case things change, which would've left us a window of 30 minutes to get her lunch in and to school for 1lesson,then out again for opticians app.it was booked as we came out of lockdown, pre ED regular visits.i was prepared take her but out lovely key support there said it's too much stress on z busy day and not to bother💞
