Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

ta da
☕️shower
☕️walked Cagletini to nursery
☕️quick walk back to bus stop in time for bus to next town over
☕️had coffee and cake with lovely fellow volunteers and the team coordinator!
☕️browsed a few shops
☕️puzzles/games with Cagletini
☕️messaged coordinator about potential/hypothetical other roles within the charity
☕️laundry in dryer
☕️got DD1 to do her laundry

Absolutely wiped. This morning was so lovely but the nursery run was too much.

How essential is my vaccine card to get my second jab? It was perfectly safe in my wallet for weeks but at some point Cagletini managed to get into it and I forgot to rescue it. So I have no clue where it is.

I imagine you'd be on file somewhere but it pretty much crowns Write Off Wednesday.

One of the people forgot theirs, there was muttering but it was fine. 2nd jab done ok, new card issued

SingToTheSky · 19/05/2021 22:49

Thanks. Write Off Wednesday indeed 😭🙈😳 I think I have a photo of the card (yes I was That Person who showed my friends 🤣 I was the first of the three of us to have it) which would at least have the info I suppose 🧐 but I’ll have a hunt for the actual card tomorrow, assuming I can stand up long enough 🙄 annoying as I’ve done so much better with not losing things lately!

I came to bed to try and sleep but now can’t. So another episode on my phone it is.

halfhope · 19/05/2021 23:01

Well if it's virtual it's real sing 😁

shipsforbrain · 19/05/2021 23:27

Hiya, write off Wednesday should definitely become a weekly thing. I’m afraid that I’ve taken it too seriously as after getting the babies to bed I’ve collapsed and am catching up on last nights Eurovision semi finals. We’re having a few friends over on Saturday to watch it together. Esai has become a nightmare to put to bed, he’s too big for the next to me crib now and won’t sleep in a cot so we’ve reverted to bed sharing. Which I know is a bit controversial, but it’s the only way he’ll sleep!. I’m going to try and sleep in a min, and then will actually crack on with cleaning tomorrow. It’s meant to rain all day so being in the boat will make me clean more hopefully!.

hills I hope you’re feeling a bit better now after having a bit of a rest❤️

willow it’s pronounced like ee-sigh😊. So glad to hear your foot is on the mend now!

dancing I’m sorry you didn’t get the job💐 I’m sure you’ll have many more opportunities in the future, and you can have this experience to reflect and learn from❤️

sing I hope you manage to find your card!

We had a lovely evening with our friends, food was brilliant too. I’m very ready for bed now though!

Morning. I hurt everywhere today (except my foot!)

Sorry you didn't get the job, Dancing, but you now have a workable CV and you got to interview stage first time out, despite a long time out of the game. That's amazing!

Hope the painkillers are working by now, That.

Trying not to have Total Fail Thursday here too, but will be mostly doing sitting down things I think. I was so excited to be able to walk properly yesterday that I overdid it a bit.

To do:
💤 Things
💤 Stuff
💤 Get dry washing upstairs and away
💤 Covid jab 2
💤 DS3 to meet a friend at the park
💤 Rissoles out of the freezer for tea (DH is ridiculously excited as they were childhood comfort food. I hope they do not disappoint!)
💤 Sleep

Can't really get going, going to try flinging myself through the shower.

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/05/2021 08:07

willow any particular reason you all wonky donkey today or is it just having joints"of a certain age" that accuse you of sleeping all wrong laying still
That hope you feeling but more alive now

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 08:38

Morning lovelies. Sorry about all the pain. Should we add a pharmacy to the naughty corner? I’m achy as heck today. I can’t believe at the start of the year I was merrily walking Cagletini to nursery each day. 😣 However no point dwelling on that.

Trying to focus my efforts on tidying even if I have to take it slowly and delegate a lot. I have joined a One Project A Day thread (don’t worry, Fledglings will forever be my fave!) and realised that although I’m much better at getting house stuff done now, I’m still very ADHD in my approach - flitting all over the place and doing random tasks here and there. Which is still useful and productive, but now I think it’s time to try and be a bit more efficient! So my focus today will be the hallway/landing and all the little tasks within that.

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/05/2021 08:51

After years of trying to go against my adhd approach to tidying, my experince is that working with will always get the better results and forcing myself to be focused terrible results. Good luck sing

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 20/05/2021 08:57

zoo I think am wonky donkey this morning (we had a toy called that when the DC were very small. He was green and blue, which are obviously wonky colours for a donkey!) because I am finally able to walk upright and it's referring upwards through all my joints. I've spent six months bent slightly to the right on this foot and have been compensating elsewhere (hence the stiff neck) so yesterday's suddenly being able to stand straight has thrown everything off again. Also, I'm old and past it (47)!

I looked at One Project A Day too, Sing, but I can't get things together enough to do that. Hoping that when we get to June and I take over as thread vague steerer in a appropriate direction leader, I can get back on board.

DH was awake until 5am and is barely functioning, so today is going to be a doozy. Wish me luck!

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 09:09

Ah thanks hills and willow

I honestly cannot describe how much I have changed since going on the medication. Especially this one (I was on generic Ritalin for a while, which did help a fair bit, but I’m on Elvanse now and it’s mindblowingly good especially now I’ve added a tiny dose of Escitalopram for the anxiety). I am for the first time ever able to do stuff I never thought possible - I can see what needs doing, and just do it. I can prioritise and plan. It’s like the clouds in my head are virtually gone. It’s more my stupid body holding me back TBH as doing too much risks pain - so hopefully the better I get at planning the more I can work around that too. :)

SingToTheSky · 20/05/2021 09:52

Ooh. Computer is arriving today. Probably won’t set it up today though as we still need to move the desk etc! Hope it’s in a sturdy box (it’s refurbished) so it can be safe for a few days!

I haven’t moved yet. Patiently waiting for the painkillers to do their thing

Mc3209 · 20/05/2021 10:01

Sing so pleased to hear meds are doing the trick!
Ships I am co-sleeping too, he just wouldn't sleep in his cot (which is right next to our bed). Now his cot is being used as a play area when I am doing stuff upstairs.
Willow may the force be with you.
Hope et al, I like the idea of Wright Off Wednesday 👍
Hills sending strength
Dancing re job thing, consider it a practice round!
Hazel I don't think I congratulated you on moving house. Congratulations! How is the unpacking going?

Ta das yesterday:
💥LOLx2
💥Hoovered
💥Kitchen sorted
💥Planted herbs

Experienced mummies, I need your opinion please. Would my DS miss out by not going to baby classes/groups/soft play?

I don't particularly want to go to those things, but I'm mindful about adequate stimulation for him. I have a list of things we do at home everyday (which I manage to do in its entirety on most days): reading - usually between 3-5 sessions per day; tummy time/crawly practice/free floor play - now his preferred activity; play gym (but he just flips onto his belly after few mins anyway); pram walk +/- garden play if it's not pouring; "musical hour" - I play piano to him whilst he is in a bouncy chair, interspersed with some rhymes; sitting up play - treasure basket/blocks/baby piano etc. Throughout the day I do baby sign language (looking forward to when he could sign back!). I need to do more messy play, I'm working on how to include it into our routine. He will be going to nursery full time when he is 1 year old, so will get his social interaction then. Should be fine, shouldn't it?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 20/05/2021 10:17

He will 100% be fine. None of mine have been to baby groups. You are doing lots with him. Most important at this stage is talking to him, about anything!
One thing i will prewarn you of is starting nursery around a year old can be tricky with seperation anxiety, i suspect this will be even more so for our lockdown babies! A good spread out period of settling in can help, as can brief periods away from parents before hand with family / friends etc, that and just be aware there likely will be tears.

Mc3209 · 20/05/2021 10:28

Thank you That !
Starting nursery will be tough. He has 3 settling in sessions, but I don't think those will be enough. He is pretty much with me 24 hours a day now on most days, and transition will be bumpy for both of us. Doesn't help that we don't have any family in this country. He is starting nursery 2 weeks before I am back to work, so both of us can cry and weather the storm.

Dancingtomusic · 20/05/2021 10:31

Morning everyone,
Thank you lovelies, you are all very kind.

Struggling with my knees, they feel spongy. Joining everyone on the feeling broken bench 😂

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/05/2021 10:37

dancing hugs
MC totally agree with that.D's and lil zoo had access to fab children's centre, but dd1+2 didn't seem any different for not experiencing it at that age!it's still very much my orientated, not that bothered by other DC

Kitchen window sill cleared
Added new pink rose
Admired handiwork
Cleared and reorganised other sill
Scrub sink

halfhope · 20/05/2021 12:43

sing sounds like things are going well for you in the round. MC ds went into nursery at 5 months very part-time so that we'd definitely have the Uni nursery place for when I went back when he was a year. I remember the howling coming from the upstairs window when we left him for the first hour. DH remarked 'that's ours' and indeed it was. He loved nursery and being an only child it was great for him. Improved his capacity to try new foods no end too! We also had no family in the country and the two days he built up to allowed me to get some research done or even get to the dentist etc

Will catch up with everyone later - I'm watching an online talk about menopausal running from a running coach and it's very useful.

Oof. It’s been a batshit crazy afternoon with a gazillion comings and goings. I’m now in the queue for my second vaccine.

My hallway and landing look lovely though and I keep looking at the plants I’ve moved upstairs and feeling all happy! :)

Are there any indoor plants that are easy to care for AND are really colourful? Other than the orchid we only have greenery. Bonus if they stay in flower for longer. :o
