Fledglings May 2021 thread: MAYbe we’ll keep our routines going as the outside world opens up 😊

Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Hi all, we have moved - finally we ended up having access to the new house on Tuesday, along with being out of pocket an extra $2000 to our buyers 🤬😡 oh well, it's all done now and we are now working on the huge task of opening all the boxes and finding places to put things.

I missed your birthday hope sounds like you had a great day!
zoo 🤞 for oven man to show up before dark. It sounds like you have a lot going on right now too.
I did catch up with the thread, but I'm just going to drop this post here. Hopefully I'll be able to do better with personals soon enough.

🍒👋 to everyone

halfhope · 14/05/2021 18:52

Hazelnutty - many congratulations on your new home. I know it's frustrating having to pay more than you'd like but, if it is your forever home and you expect to spend many years of happiness there, I'd just write off the extra cash. It did what it needed to do - secure the house.

I think we perhaps paid a little more than we might have for our house but it was a hot market, I was recovering from a thyroid disorder and had been quite ill, and it was the nicest house we saw. It's been a happy home in a lovely area and we've been here since 2007.

halfhope · 14/05/2021 18:54

zoo has THAT man been to fix your oven yet? Places goodies in naughty corner to help with morale

OP posts:
HazelNuttyElf · 14/05/2021 19:25

hope I would have been a little happier if it was going towards our new house. Instead, it went towards the roof of the house we were selling. We got backed into a corner, write the cheque, or lose the sale basically 🤬

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/05/2021 19:42

Hope nope.i am not approaching FURIOUS.i asked him specifically to put us at beginning of his shift of rounds(2.30) as D's hates strangers in the camp and the concept of messing teatime/having here as darkness approaches he's just this dude of orbiting
He was able to do yesterday, but I couldn't so I was very clear I had hoped giving him an extra day we would be visited early
I do appreciate he's a lone operation and runs spare parts shop/fixes stuff 9-2 and us out mending 230-10/11 7 days a week.he only takes Xmas day off and is now in seventies
I fear he's becoming a bit forgetful with age 😔 he's always been better in previous years, and he offers the best rates price wise too

If he's not here soon doors will be locked, curtains pulled and I will not answer door if comes and ring him tomorrow.
I didn't want it done this weekend as zoolets dad has a rare weekend off and I'd hoped we might be able go for a walk and he tends prefer afternoons on days off "to get his rest in"....

Mask wash done
Light wash in progress
DS and lil zoo fed

Hey sorry I didn’t get on yesterday ladies I went out with a couple of friends and their DC for a meal. It was my first time going to a pub since they’ve reopened I was quite impressed with how they’re being run tbh. It’s exactly a month until my due date now which is so scary haha I can’t believe this time next month my little man could already be here. I feel sort of prepared but I’m still so nervous haha I can’t believe I’m going to have a boy either there’s no baby boys in my family so I’m not sure what to do with them🤣
half I’m so sorry I missed it but happy belated birthday🎂🎂🎂 I’m glad you had a brilliant day💖
zoo aww Emilia loves Winnie the Pooh too that’s why we have the stickers and she has lots of other little bits. I was never really a fan of Winnie the Pooh when I was little though I was a Tweenies kid🤣. You are deffo not failing your DC from what I know about you you’re an amazing mum💐 well done on getting through today’s palaver🌟
sing I’m glad you’re starting to actually enjoy cleaning I wish I was able to🤣. I go through bursts when I do sooo much and then I just burn out but since having these rules to follow its definitely helped much more😊
ships thank you💖 your DC’s names are beautiful omg 😮
hills that’s a brilliant win that you can have donuts now and not feel poorly🍩 you deserve as many as you want I’m sorry about people playing games🤗
hazel congratulation on your move how exciting🏡
I’m starting to stress about how I’m going to feed little man. I tried to breastfeed Emilia but my supply wasn’t good and she lost a lot of weight so I just switched to formula. I’m the only person in my family who even attempted breastfeeding so I don’t feel like I have much support and I’m really nervous that my supply will be rubbish again and it’ll cause me loads of stress. I kind of just want to go straight to formula to save any stress but I’m worried that people will judge because I didn’t even try. Do any of you have any advice?Xx

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/05/2021 22:00

Zoo there has been new rules come into place where if the child is over 16 your can't be given any details unless the child consents to it. Gp can't speak to you etc. Unfortunately not receptionist being awkward there was new laws and it could cost them their job. It is a fucking pain in the ass!!! You can't even get a blanket consent. It has to be consent each and every single time. I know because I have had to deal with this recently and had a lovely GP patiently example it. Teen "speak to my mum" literally all she got out of him. But was what was necessary. She said that they understand that getting kids and parents in the same place and time is a nightmare so that they will do their best to be patient about it.

Cloud breast feed people will judge, try and fail people will judge, straight to bottle people will judge. DO want is best for you and your situation. There will always be some fucker judging. And you know what, you are always perfectly entitled to tell them to mind their own god damn business!

There is much excitement around here. The people went out into the real world to run errands for the first time since covid. Teen has decided that he needs to tidy his room. Happens periodically. Just he usually times it so that i am in the middle of something before asking for help. Not today, today he was "can you find time tomorrow to help with...." Kid grew up so proud Grin yes i am over tired, yes I am shortly heading to bed Wink

merryhouse · 14/05/2021 22:38

cloud I think the best thing is to tell yourself that you're meeting your baby's needs. Whether you breast or bottle you'll be giving him the nutrition he needs and the love he depends on.

There's a bit of evidence suggesting that breastfed babies get fewer ear infections, but apart from that I think the possible minor benefits can be easily outweighed by the downsides of stressed, exhausted and resentful parents.

I breastfed - partly because it had never occurred to me not to until I started reading all the literature! - and partly because I thought it would be so much easier not having to deal with bottles and the nappies are less unpleasant. However I didn't really have any problems with it. One of my sisters struggled for five weeks before the midwife said "look, you really don't have to do this..."

Oh, and boys are lovely! (Especially 6-year-olds. They are So Cute.) Just beware of the reaction to cold air when you take the nappy off - you'll soon develop your own tricks Grin

merryhouse · 14/05/2021 22:47

Red I saw that Stacey Solomon programme (I think it was mentioned on here?). It was the pilot and apparently 6 episodes have been commissioned to be shown later this year. I really liked it, and hope they do similar in the rest of them.

I've been watching the Channel 5 Hoarders too. Then I moved to Ch4's Hoarder SOS which has a vibe I'm not enjoying quite as much, and a programme called Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners which - though I admit I have only watched one episode so far - I was mildly appalled by. I suppose it is possible that the woman who uses three products in the toilet SIMULTANEOUSLY and cleans her home eight hours a day was given some help and direction, but we didn't see any of it.

Dancingtomusic · 15/05/2021 02:14

merry- so glad you posted about the 'bbc1 stacey solomon program- sort out your life' as I had spent 15 minutes this morning trying to figure out why I only have 1 episode recorded and where were the others? 🤦‍♀️
I think it is a brilliant program and I really enjoyed it and it inspired me to declutter and make room lovely so they are useful spaces.

I actually did clean my sitting room. Klaxon alert, I cleared floor of junk and vacuumed it.
3 lol and dried. Uniforms straight into washing machine and dried. Hopefully tomorrow morning I will have all uniform washed and dried.
Kitchen tidied and dishwasher on. Just a few large bits of cleaning frying pans that Dh used and left- yuck.
Hallway to tackle tomo and rest of sitting room or dining room.
Drank Kefir- my tummy feels so much better, the weeks of horrible bloating has gone down and I feel normal. Breathing normal.

2nd Jab tomorrow morning- eek!

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/05/2021 06:42

dancinggood luck with jab
Hills hope helping sort the bot dungeon goes ok
Cloud I bf all mine because I'm too lazy to be faffing with bottles in middle of the night!I did peer support too at our children's centre..HOWEVER not every baby)mum takes to it or wants to.as a mum the most important thing is baby is fed and you are coping.if bf stresses you out it's not good for either of you.as hills said always someone judging and none their business!this subjects come up a few times on thread over the years and like everything else this lovely group of ladies have a diverse experience but support each other so remember whatever you chose this is a judge pants free zone..4weeks to go!yikes!
MerryI really need see Stacey's show.i like how down to earth she is!

Well insomnia on rampage again.ive tried and failed sleep more 3 hours despite be so bloody tired
Repairman never showed his face so need ring him today and get things sorted
Best feed to overlords as scoutcats screeching on sill to come in from the rain!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 15/05/2021 08:02

Morning all Brew

I've been struggling this week. Very uncomfortable now thanks to spd/pgp.

Cloud i have 7 weeks to go due very early July. All of my dc have been formula fed from the get go. I find its pretty well accepted these days, think i have had a single comment from a mw this pregnancy along the lines of 'But you know if you did want to try even the first feed makes a difference' No pressure really. Only one of mine has suffered with repeated ear infections.

The Stacey Solomon programme sounds interesting although she does irritate me a bit at times Blush

Zoo sorry to hear of gp confusion! I am sure you will do your dd1 proud as mother of the bride but i also get what you mean. I feel really out of place if i have to dress up etc, funny as i used to love it (15 years ago!)

Hills hope the people are behaving

Hazel enjoy your new home my lovely!

SingToTheSky · 15/05/2021 08:16

I liked the show, glad there are more episodes coming. I liked the similar (Canadian I think?) show on Netflix too but I can’t find it now.

I’m really feeling like even a bad day is now far better than my good days pre-meds. The down side is that I am always tired and achy ATM. But stuff needs doing.

Formulating a plan for the next few weeks - need to get our room ready for the computer, which will also mean sorting DS’ room a bit as the desk he doesn’t use is coming in to us. Then DH has agreed we should paint the bathroom so a big spring clean in there first.

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/05/2021 08:46

Good morning.

3hrs sleep here. urgh.
People have an adventure tomorrow. So they will be more inclined to behave today. Especially because if they don't they won't go.

Busy day here today. Just going to get coffee, find clothes and get going. There is a war to be won with the moths!

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/05/2021 09:00

hills good luck in the moth battle
That/cloud ear infections aren't exclusively formula babies either.fs had a few and dd2 had them repeatedly for many years, poor lamb.i think ears, like other body ailments are part your DNA/who you are than what you are fed!
Sing if it's a trade off of tired and achy over pre med wellness I assume that it's a done deal?I'm tired and achy all the time these days, maybe it's not related to meds but the "glory of getting older"?have you picked a bathroom colour yet?Smile

Tada cats fed wash in
Wash up
Wipe kitchen surfaces
Sweep kitchen floor
Sweep living room floor
Tidy freezer
Wash in drier
More in
S+s
Littertrays
Bins

It's raining but dd2 had panic attack in night so I think some fresh air/calming nature and rain sounds/burning off the cortisol will be good for her.i doubt, however she will agree!!oh well.ds lives a walk in rain

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 15/05/2021 09:02

Morning all!

Cloud, the baby needs feeding. That is all that matters. People will have an opinion whatever you do, so you just need to let it roll off you (although I know that's really hard). How lovely that you got out with friends.

Hazel congrats on the new house! Sorry you got stiffed over the roof, we had similar over an insurance policy when we moved here. I've sworn never again! Have fun finding spaces for things - did you use Flylady's packing/ unpacking system?

Zoo sorry the ED clinic have tied themselves in a knot, hope they can sort themselves out soon. Crossfingers for the oven man turning up and getting some weekend time with DP.

Hills glad the people got out and the teen has asked for help in advance! Hope you got some sleep.

Sing today I am apparently painting the bathroom ceiling. Best get on!

MrsTidyHouse · 15/05/2021 09:24

cloud. My GP told me never justify or explain (about a different, but equally sensitive, issue). I would add to that, never apologise.

And remembe4 what all the pp have saaid. Whatever you choose will be right for you and yours.

SingToTheSky · 15/05/2021 09:30

I agree re the feeding. It’s a subject that unfortunately some people will always try to wade in over but you need to do what works for you and your little one. My mum struggled to breastfeed me and she still carries the guilt and the shame caused by mean comments from the midwives. That makes me so sad - I had milk, I was warm and clothed and had endless cuddles, what else actually matters about those early days?

Sending housewarming vibes to hazel!!! 😍

I’ve not got up yet but I’ve decided I’ll walk DD1 down to town (needs cash for bus pass) and do a couple of errands. Not braving Primark today though, I’ll try during the week.

Def a done deal zoo I’ve realised recently that my mental health is better than it’s been in years - maybe even ever. Is life easy - hell no. But I feel more able to cope. Unfortunately given my health conditions I do need to be careful and I think that will always be a battle for me. But the more I can sort the house, routines etc I’m hoping the easier life will get in spite of that. So I keep going, with regular tests. And crucially without beating myself up when I need a crash day.

SingToTheSky · 15/05/2021 09:34

Haha I meant rests not tests. Has the pandemic affected autocorrect that much? 🤔

Oh and no not got a colour for the bathroom yet but TBH not bothered, DH and I will just choose one of the very neutral ones from the bathroom paint. Something greyish most likely.

SingToTheSky · 15/05/2021 09:43

Does anyone know, with clothes sizes does say “4” mean 3-4 or 4-5 🤔

With H&M specifically if anyone happens to know!

Redsquirrel5 · 15/05/2021 10:16

Morning all,
Merry good to hear from you and thanks for clearing that up. I googled it but it didn’t say it was a pilot show so I am glad you cleared that up as I was looking for next one. I have watched a couple of hoarders programmes and they really motivate me to clear stuff. I liked the tips on SS show like the rolling jeans 👖 I do fold mine and I am not sure about rolling as I have ironed trousers in the drawer. It’s a thought though. Anyone else do it? DH hates any of that type of programme but I have tv in my bedroom now.🤔

Cloud I Breast fed mine but had a lot of difficulty with 1st child. I had a CS and he was in SCUBA unit as he was very poorly. I had to express some but didn’t feed him until day 7 or 8. I had trouble getting him to latch on and he was very dozy. I preserved at home and always seemed to be feeding him. At 4 months a friend was killed in an accident and I lost my milk so he went onto a bottle.
Baby 2 was so easy in comparison. I was more confident and it just all happened easily. I thought I will give it a go and if not I will bottle feed. I would say give it a try if you want to as you might be like me and find it easier the second time around. It is your baby so do whatever you feel confident with. Like Hills said. 4 weeks eek!

Zoo oh that bloody oven door, poor you. Let’s hope he turns up soon. We are still waiting for greenhouse man. An email came to say he might do it this coming week. No explanation about why delayed and no communication until a few days ago. I fear we have missed the planting time and wish I had started tomatoes off in old one but feared damage when transporting over. 😫at getting THAT receptionist. I got the one in ours last time and my heart sank.
Hazel so glad you are in and so annoying you had to pay that to buyers but a bird in the hand...tiring but exciting to be unpacking.

Right I must get cracking as I didn’t do much yesterday. I have phone calls and emails and need to sort this tip of a bedroom. We are still shifting stuff around and I now have Christmas decks in my bedroom because for some reason they were in the little case I took to Scotland. I knew I wanted something at the Range another box!

That how are you doing?

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒

Redsquirrel5 · 15/05/2021 10:30

Crossed posts.

Tests and rests😂 auto correct I just read a bit of mine to see I ‘preserved at home’ it should be persevered 🤣autocorrect. Can you imagine preserved breast milk? Yuk it would stink!

I had headache before bed last night, woke up with it DH brought me a mug of tea but turned over and must have fallen asleep and still have it. Damn. Maybe fresh air will shift it. Plus paracetamol. Cherry 🍒 byes.
