Fledglings May 2021 thread: MAYbe we’ll keep our routines going as the outside world opens up 😊

Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Aw hope lovely to look back on an old thread 💐 I can very much relate to wanting to be more of a doer than a thinker!

Only just finished my first three as DS wanted to play cluedo after he’d done his maths and English. I’m still shattered.

po3.2
1️⃣look up tonight’s dance classes and book if possible and DD1 wants to
2️⃣read a bit of northern lights as I’m really behind where DS has listened up to
3️⃣curl up and watch something

half- i love the photo soo much....the books look sooo special!

MrsTidyHouse · 13/05/2021 17:29

I caught up with school-related emails and essential phone calls. Set off to petrol station on the way tos hool pick-up, only to realise that it's been so long since I've paid by chip-and-pin that I can't be sure of my pin number. So paid by cash, felt nervous of being given change, and told the cashier to keep it.

Tomorrow is a no-uniform day, with donations being paid online. Which means I can't donate. Rather sad about that.

Ordered some convenience meals for today's supermarket delivery. Hoping that will take off some of the self-inflicted pressure. I can relate to Pp upthread and mental health and chidren. Sorry, can't scroll back to see that post.

Redsquirrel5 · 13/05/2021 18:42

Happy 50th birthday Hope🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🎂 so you are one year younger than my baby sister. I think turning fifty marks a new era where you are more confident and take less nonsense from people in a calm, controlled way. You often get a bit more respect too. Enjoy.

Love the books.

Zoo you will be lovely. You come across as a very caring person. You have nothing to worry about and you can be proud you have brought your daughter up well.

MrsTidy I have a lot of email clutter. I was deleting 10 a day. I need to start that again. I get a lot of Pinterest ones but think I shall have to delete before looking at them. Dread to think how many I have.

I discovered a new programme this morning with Stacey Solomon on BBC 2 at 9am decluttering a family house. It got me motivated and I was ready to get started after breakfast but DS3 phoned and was on for ages. I did crack on and I have cleaned all the bathroom including the box. I have three spare toothpastes! Sorted the other stuff and put a guest towel and bath towel on top to stop DH using it. Took everything out and washed the floor. The mop in the airing cupboard works well. I had one of those Vilida mops with the spray. So quick and easy and mop head can go in the machine. I might get a spare head. So pleased and plan to do another room tomorrow.

Fresh eyes on it help.

Thanks Dancing I was tired yesterday and my back was sore. DH took me to Pooley Bridge for lunch. We had a short walk over the bridge and the businesses there have been very busy during lockdown. Lots of building work and new tables outside. It looks lovely. We supported them after the bridge was washed away and not many people were there. I like the new bridge but the old one was beautiful and such a shame it went.

Don’t know what to make tonight. We usually have a meat dish but I think we will have veggie pasta. Quick and simple.

Will pop back later.

Ta da

DH came home and had a shower in my lovely clean bathroom. Need to replace towels.

Cleaned one shelf in airing cupboard mainly because I wanted to organise the towels.Aim to do another tomorrow.

Whew! The Fat Fairy would be pleased and impressed.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 13/05/2021 21:37

Oh FFS, lost my post. The mobile site is not behaving this evening.

Red the Fat Fairy would indeed be impressed, well done.
MrsTidy glad you were able to pay for petrol! I too have to work hard at allowing DS3 to learn to do things, instead of doing them all for him in the belief I am "helping". He's nearly 11!

Today has been another full-on one.
Ta da:
❤️ Woke DS3 in time for lessons - he never sleeps that long!
🧡 posted DS2 out the door to first exam
💛 Healthful breakfast - have decided to try light-touch calorie counting in an effort to shift Lockdown Lard
💚 Tidied instruments and books out of living room so it looks like a room, albeit one that has a piano in it that wasn't there before 😁
💙 Drove DS3 to the OT (left at 10, back at 1.30)
💜 Tidied the kitchen, again, despite not having been here most of the day!
🤎 Swept the kitchen floor
🖤 Loaded and ran the DW
❤️ Put the LOL DH had started into the drier
🧡 Opened post and answered emails
💛 Took 2 dry loads of washing upstairs and handed them out
🧡 Made DS3's tea
💛 Made leftover vegetable soup
💚 Defrosted and served Thai green chilli and veg. Turns out DS2 had eaten all the rice and not told me 🤦
💛 Emptied and reloaded DW again
💚 Did hand washing up
💙 Had a bath. Just got comfy when DS3 announced he needed a bath too, in order to sleep properly, and I had to cut mine short. Mutter.
💜 Put DS3 to bed.
🤎 Long discussion with DH about DS3's subjects for next year and how we create an adequately full timetable so it's not too much of a shock if he does goes back to actual school in Y8/9/10

...And tomorrow, I will do it all again. This is getting a bit dull, tbh.

Shipsandgiggls · 13/05/2021 22:17

Hiya lovelies I went completely awolBlush. My phone broke the other week and I had to replace it but I forgot my passwords to EVERYTHING so I needed to completely start everything again (hence the new username/account). We’ve started weaning our little boy and he’s loving it! We’re also starting to potty train DD which has been going okay. It’s meant to be awful weather here soon so we’ve been preparing the boat for that!.
I have read through but I will just jump in from here!

cloud hiya I don’t think we’ve ‘met’!. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Don’t worry yourself about people judging your kids names as long as you like it that’s all that matters. Our DD is called Orli Adira and DS is Esai Anwyll and we had a lot of people saying they didn’t like it, but they’re our children so it’s nobody’s business!.
hills I’m so sorry to hear about your friend💐
hope happy belated birthday!🎂

Mc3209 · 13/05/2021 23:02

Ships weaning, how exciting! Are you using any specific method/book? We are making some progress with weaning here too, mix of traditional and BLW, I am still terrified of choking though. I know he needs some finger foods, but every time I see him bite a piece of something I am having a heart attack.
How do you prepare a boat for a bad weather?
Sing I keep forgetting to say massive congrats on finishing your training! Are you excited to start your new role?
Red impressive list.

Ta das:
💥LOL
💥Work meeting
💥Rubbish out, including recycling
💥Dusting
💥S&S bathroom

I shall retire for the day. Good night, everyone! 🍒👋

SingToTheSky · 13/05/2021 23:05

Oh my gosh ships your DCs’ names are gorgeous 😍

Thanks mc! I am so excited to start. I have confirmed I’ll take on the family I’ve been “offered” so just waiting to get a time booked in for our first call 🥰

I haven’t even kept a ta da list today as I’ve basically done fuck all other than a few phone calls and a bit of laundry. DH has taken over the kitchen and I found him cleaning the oven :o

halfhope · 13/05/2021 23:33

Ooh that's exciting sing well done. I'm sure you'll be great. And as for dp cleaning the oven -fabulous 🎉🎉 my least favourite job

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/05/2021 08:15

I found a store that sells donuts i can eat. which is good.
Fell like crap after the fall out of the ones that I shouldn't have eaten. Breathing is hard, muscles are sore and exhausted. Generally feeling a bit knocked about this week

Red: people are in their 70s. And yes now we can go into the hills I do. But just fed up of the I am so incapable that I can't possibly do xyz around the house, but watch me go do abc which shows that actually i could do xyz if i wanted to nonsense. I don't like people who play games or manipulate people. And this is so flipping obvious that the one who is oblivious can see it and is quietly saying yeah you are quite reasonable to challenge this. Teen is watching it and quietly coming to help without being asked, which is appreciated.

Happy birthday to those having/had birthdays.
Good luck with those doing new things with little people - may it run smoothly for you
Good luck and much productive determination to those who are doing all the declutter.

Forgive me for just flying through. It is a short hetic day when you are asleep before 9pm and not waking up til 8am. Just another week if I can avoid another exposure. HmmSad

SingToTheSky · 14/05/2021 08:38

Hills 💐 that sounds immensely bloody stressful. You buy as many donuts as you want, you definitely deserve them!

I’m grumpy this morning because womanly things. 🤬 Must find my hot water bottle. Best crack on with some admin stuff later too, including booking parents evening. Had a chat with DD1 about her report, which is ok, but hard to tell how accurate it is because of all the covid disruptions etc.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 14/05/2021 08:52

Morning. Lurching towards day here, I can't get going this morning.

Hills, sorry people are playing games, good that other people and the teen as noticing and helping. Hope your day is not too hectic.

Zoo good luck with diatetics. We had to do 3000 calories a day, breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack with DS1 shortly after his diagnosis and it was no fun. Sending strength 💐.
Thanks for asking about the ceiling - no more leaks (touch wood) but we can't be fixed and replastered til 7 June. I am trying to focus on cleaning that end of the room really properly, cleaning the drumkit (my god, the dust!) and thinking about painting the walls when I have to paint the ceiling.

Ships your DC have beautiful names!

Right. Must lurch through the day, starting with Po3:

  1. Get washed and dressed
  2. Rotate DW
  3. Client work including looking at yesterday's will that arrived

All before DS3 meets a friend in the rain park at 11. Must get on. 🍒👋 to foxes, Up, Sing, ED, Hope, Red, Cloud, SC, Mc, Double, MrsTidy, Dancing, Merryhouse and anyone else who has slipped out of my head!

Redsquirrel5 · 14/05/2021 09:18

Hills then that is unfair. Could you move out and leave them to it? Have a home help? Sounds very stressful. Glad the teen helped. Crikey they sounded nearer my age than you. Unless disabled 70 is no age nowadays. I have friends from church in their 80’s who do all their own cleaning.

Sing I missed that you have finished already. Well done you.
Ships glad to have you back. I was thinking about you when moving my boats in the bathroom and hoping you would return.
Zoo glad they are trying to help. She sounds like she deserve the plant. I bought a new one when up in Scotland it has lots of babies and is a reddish brown. DH seems to have nearly killed my Streptococcus.
MrsTidy also couldn’t remember my pin a few weeks ago. I hadn’t used it for months. DH has a phrase which the words( number of letters) match the numbers.

Hazel hoping the move is going ok.
Dancing just what I need.
Willow great list. Love ‘Lockdown Lard’ I am going to call it that now. I have put back the weight I lost at the beginning.😖
MC they make such a thing of it now. Mine had a few jars to start off them mostly mashed what we were having plus finger food. Oh and rusks they were a big thing.
That how are you doing? Must be getting hard work now I hope the manchild has stepped up.
Hope Have you got snow? DH spent about an hour and a half walking through snow showers on high ground. It was lovely through Aviemore.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋to those I have missed. Going to vacuum sitting room and attempt to tidy boudoir.

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/05/2021 09:26

willow I guess you can try and reframe it as a blessing?or not

Ships forgot to add beautiful names!

I have eaten 4iced jammy buns for breakfast and feel unwell

wash on
Woke girls
Lil zoo complaining feels unwell.temps fine, think just needing some attention/bit upset after yesterday.she has asked for breakfast

SingToTheSky · 14/05/2021 09:41

It just so happens that my hotel chocolat order (which was basically free as I got an automatic gift card and refund when they did a product recall) arrives, so all good :o

I don’t appear to have got up properly though. Oops. I had meds and a shower and have been sitting on my bed since 😬

Rather overcast here too.

Had a lovely morning playing a game for the first time, it’s been on our Shelf of Shame for ages. It’s called Photosynthesis and it’s inspired DS to want to make a card game about pollution. :o Also read to him and I think I might open my chocolate delivery and curl up to watch something for a bit, before he gets on with English. Then he’s got parkour later.

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/05/2021 12:50

Always good to play a new game sing.was it good?

Littertray and bins done
