Fledglings May 2021 thread: MAYbe we’ll keep our routines going as the outside world opens up 😊

Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

hills sorry I skim read and totally missed the end of your post :( so sorry about your friend 💐 x

halfhope · 12/05/2021 20:30

Hills I'm very sorry to read about your good friend's passing. I was thinking about a work colleague/friend, who passed away a few years back, just today. Gone too soon 😔

halfhope · 12/05/2021 20:34

zoo I'm sure you'll look lovely and the great thing about being MotB is that it's really easy to make excuses to get away from people you don't want to talk too 'oh dd1 needs her veil fixed' or 'Scoutcat's corsage has fallen off so I must fix it before she yowls' etc and away you go. If you don't want to talk to anyone at all just beam happily like a nutter - that's really your role at the wedding (proud mum).

OP posts:
halfhope · 12/05/2021 20:37

zoo you'll only talk to one or two people at a time. That's the tip for giving lectures - look at one person not the entire room 👰👰👰💍💍💍

Hi I hope you’re all okay it’s been a busy day today it’s my little sisters birthday so we had a bbq in my dads garden as the weather was actually quite nice today. Before that I went to dunelm and got the wallpaper for the kids room I didn’t manage to put it up today but I think my step dad is coming over tomorrow to help me do it. I’ve got a pink and blue galaxy print I was going to get a Winnie the pooh print to match the stickers but then I thought it’d be better to get something that could last until they’re a bit older and I can just change the wall stickers depending on their interests and stuff.
dancing I’ve tried the salt gargle and deffo noticed a difference. It’s not too bad now it always happens when they start growing a bit more. Don’t beat yourself up I hope you’re feeling better today we can’t be perfect parents all the time💖💖. Hopefully the fact that you kept your calm will go in your favour🤞🏻
zoo I know earache and toothache are the worst for me😩. I’ve never met anyone with my birthday either but met quite a few with Emilia’s birthday it is weird when you think about it isn’t it. Sorry about ‘d’p being a nob it he hasn’t bothered to go for walks with the kids then he can hardly complain can he it definitely isn’t your fault. You will be amazing at your DD’s wedding! And I’m sure she won’t be embarrassed about you at all she’ll be very happy to have her lovely mum there🥰
sing sorry about the crap sleep I hope you’re feeling a bit better now.
willow
hills I hope that your headache has gone now. I’m so sorry to hear about your friend💐
half thank you I’m feeling a bit better now 😀
up thank you😊
red yep still free so if it carries on into next week then I’ll try and get an appointment. It usually gets like this though and then after they’ve moved a bit it goes back to normal so hopefully they just happens this time.
ta da

🧽sorted through toys etc
🧽hoovered flat
🧽wrapped DSis’ present

halfhope · 13/05/2021 00:28

Glad your toothache is easing cloud. That's a good move to change stickers over the years to keep their room current. Hope you had a nice BBQ to celebrate your sister's birthday. It was my 50th birthday today - same day as her. I am completely happy to be this age especially when you read about hills losing her friend. I do think about what I would like to do/achieve over the next few years but mainly I'm just happy to have made it this far. DH bought me earrings and some books, cds and I had pink champagne. Ds got me a lovely collection of Jane Austen books - really nice hardback editions with a ribbon bookmark in each. My best friend sent flowers. I've had a really nice day.

MrsTidyHouse · 13/05/2021 07:42

I'm so grateful for this thread Flowers Smile. Slept like a log last night, right through to 6am, and woke feeling refreshed. Thankyou!

I'm gradually increasing the number of tasks the LOs do for themselves. I've realised recently that I'm kind of making them helpless by running around after them. Think it was my way of trying to unburden them. So I've pulled myself up on that, and my aim now is to make sure they can do their basic routines around the house.

Apart from going to the petrol station, outstanding errands atm are almost entirely online, with a couple of phone calls thrown in. Still struggling with tech-related stuff, and the feeling of being in a world where no-one speaks my language anymore. So the first thing would be to find out why my inbox is being flooded with online shopping ads and promotions. I think I'm doing my online window-shopping wrong, lol!

SingToTheSky · 13/05/2021 08:36

That’s great tidy! Little ones get such a sense of pride when they learn to do things for themselves. I’m managing this much better with Cagletini and really enjoying it. Although I am also trying to banish the guilt about the fact I didn’t manage this stuff with the older two.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 13/05/2021 08:47

Hills I'm so sorry to hear about your friend 💐. Also sorry that the people are playing silly buggers and now sulking. Hope today is a better day and your migraine has cleared.

Hope I can't believe you didn't mention your birthday til it was over! Sounds like you had a lovely day and the books sound glorious.

Hills my condolences. How are you feeling?
Hope Happy birthday for yesterday! It sounds like you had a very special day. Books look lovely.
Zoo couldn't have put it better than Waders. I second every word. Hope ED appointment goes well today.
Tidy very pleased things are coming together. Re promitions, you can unsubscribe from all the unwanted stuff so it doesn't clog your inbox.

SingToTheSky · 13/05/2021 09:58

Happy belated birthday to our wonderful thread host! Glad you got some lovely pressies, definitely well deserved 🥰💐

I haven’t got up yet other than to get meds and breakfast (brought the latter back up to bed!). I am pleased I did so much yesterday, I’m feeling quite proud of what I achieved, but I ache from it.

One day I’ll learn to balance myself so I don’t overdo things, and I can just consistently get enough done to keep moving forward. I’m doing so much better with cleaning - I’m even starting to enjoy it! But the clutter is still a big problem and it’s hard to find the energy to sort that as well as keep up with the routines I’m trying to build up. But it needs doing - I can’t clean clutter. I can’t decorate a cluttered home either.

Right, power of 3 time or I’ll never get myself in gear!

po3.1
1️⃣collect and rinse Cagletini’s foam letters that weren’t put away yesterday after her bath
2️⃣move laundry into dryer
3️⃣see how DS is doing - I can hear him doing some home ed with DH - and make sure we will finish episode one of the documentary this morning as it leaves iPlayer tonight

halfhope · 13/05/2021 10:15

Grin thank you all very much Blush. Currently in the naughty corner eating cocktail sausages...

To answer your question zoo - I do feel like a younger person but with many years' experience if that makes sense. Nature has adjusted my eyesight so that I seem to blur the wrinkles but I definitely look older. What I'm more concerned about is my posture and overall fitness - I have the time but I'm not being consistent with exercise and my shoulders are hunched forward. I'm going to make a bigger effort with functional fitness now so that hopefully when I'm older I'll have better balance etc. I don't know where the time has gone. The funny thing is I looked up turning 50 on MN yesterday and found a post on a thread about being 50 that I'd made when I was 47 under a different user name. It was like travellling back in time to talk to a younger (slightly) me. Anyway 47 year old me said that she didn't mind turning 50 because she'd had to deal with a difficult family fallout during her 40s (Mum, Dad, sister - failing parental marriage/aggressive behaviour) and she'd recently lost a colleague and that she'd had lots of things to be thankful for overall and she should just get on with things. And at 50 I think the same. And yesterday I was still thinking of my colleague who should now be 47. I'm usually a thinker/procrastinator rather than a doer and I'd like to be more of a doer, if I could change anything.

zoo you are not failing the zoolets - they are teenagers with ups and downs and perimenopause replicates that so you should be kind to yourself.

tidy - yes as your house gets tidier you tend to turn to online clutter! I've unsubscribed to many newsletters as they just clog up things.

Foxes big wave to you

Willow I wandered around in a state of euphoria yesterday Grin It does feel different to other birthdays - a birthday version of New Year. Thanks for the gingham table cloth in the naughty corner sing - looks lovely...
