Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Good morning Dancing - have just seen your list from last night. I remember Happyland well from the toddler years!

I have no idea how I have missed 150 posts Shock. I am a terrible fledgling. I’ve skimmed the last page and will catch up properly later.

Glad you enjoyed your trip Red.

Hills I will definitely try the “not tired? Then chores” trick Grin.

Hope the eye is ok Dancing. Grin at DD planning on leaning the country.

So sorry you are still have leak issues Willow. Hope you get your house back soon!

Hope the toothache goes soon Cloud

I am with you on feeling boring Tidy. I feel like I write the same posts all the time. I enjoy your posts though, I’m a bit obsessed with decluttering.

Waves to Zoo, Sing, That, Foxes, That, ED, Mc, Merry, SC, Chic and anyone I’ve missed.

We had to get up and ready early this morning as we have a sky engineer coming between 8 and 1. I cleaned behind the tv at the weekend but needed to do a dust and mop of the living room this morning. Hoping he arrives soon so we can get out for some exercise before the rain hits.

Ta Das:
✅ beds made
✅ LOL on
✅ fed everyone
✅ kitchen rescued after it was abandoned post-tea last night - all dishes done, benches and hob wiped
✅ hoovered and mopped downstairs.
✅ hoovered stairs
✅ s&s
✅ sprayed mould and mildew spray on shower grout
✅ stashed and dashed some piles of crap DH had left in the dining room in case the sky dude needs to get to the sky dish out the back.

I feel a bit like Zoo with my big morning list Smile

To do:
Drink my tea
Sort out the stash and dash cupboard. I got out of the habit of doing it for ages but have slipped recently and it’s irritating me.

Back later 👋

halfhope · 12/05/2021 09:50

Morning upholding the rain has hit here already. Hope you get your walk.

Good Morning half
Morning everyone (tips hat) (i like wearing hats)

I have the old happyland stuff. Beautiful designed...funny clever signs. The new happyland stuff is shit poorly designed crap.

Today
Diabetes online training- must not forget like last time.

Must, must declutter the other half of the sitting room. For my minds sanity.

I need to get this off my chest...my interview was fine as I decided to be myself. I talked as I talk here and made a connection with the interviewers- lovely. The not so lovely part was...I was going for a IT job.....and....I couldnt get the IT to work. So if any lurkers are reading this...and you need advice or pointers.....here goes...this is for you.

In my interview online i had 2 interviers online, both working from home, 4mins in they asked me to start the ppt.
I couldnt shared my ppt, i couldnt click it to next slide and it halfway through jumped onto screen one. I laughed and said sorry...they said everyone has had a problem- not to worry.

Things to have learnt:

  1. Teams on desktop and teams on the app downloaded work differently.
I practised on teams desktop and i was fine.

  2. Teams app downloaded to the laptop, the fucking toolbar hides itself, floats away somewhere and appears magically like some kind of scene from Harry Potter.🤓

  3. Teams the app will let you share your ppt, but it will not let your interviewers see your face as you present/I couldnt see them either.

4). Do not let Dh convince you, that you need 3 fucking screens to present ppt. It will fall flat on your face if you are used just staring at the one laptop screen.

  1. Do not let Dh convince you to use the super fucking duper 3d hand mouse. It will not click on the buttons on the slide. It will waste alot of the interviwers time. They will hear frantic clicking in the background as nothing works and you fill the time by talking about a ppt that will not move slides.

I just laughed my way through, apologised and kept going with my presentation.
So I would have got marks for talking.
But probably got the lowest score for IT 🤣

My lesson- next time i will shout at Dh-
'No i dont need 3 screens to do the job of one! I do not want to look like a person from 'Mad Max' (old 80s film with Tina Turner).
'No! I dont want to use the 3d mouse.'
(Actually would like to smash that into tiny pieces with a hammer.)

Deep breath. (Inhale)
Going to try and let it go as my diabetes training starts at 10am

Have a lovely morning everyone Brew

halfhope · 12/05/2021 10:11

Dancing - I think you did quite well. All IT people know that the gremlins exist and things go pear shaped. I have taken notes as I work with Teams myself.

My own mortification was failing to get IT to work during a hospital doctor consult - I was the patient and completely panicked.

Yes, I've experienced not being able to see people while ppt was on in Teams - it's just weird.

Grin at plan for dh. And EXHALE.

My funny Zoom moment was when watching an academic paper from Oxford where members of the public were also attending online (well it's Covid so we all were). One of the older men decided to move from his table to sitting elsewhere - he picked up his laptop and held it to his body as he moved to another room. This meant that suddenly the camera moved from his face to his crotch area Blush and eventually his face popped back again. The poor postgraduate running the seminar for the speaker looked very alarmed.

Morning,

I slept really well but I still feel tired. Will just be doing the basics. I don’t think the bathroom has been touched since I left. Maybe the basin.
It has been kept on top of since the last Flylady bathroom visit and the dust seems to have come to an end.

Willow I had a year of it. I hear you. I still have stuff in the boudoir that needs a home. The dining room has some too. I decluttered a picture to baby sis. I forgot I had some crockery here to take up. I am so annoyed with myself over forgetting that. I could have got rid of a whole box full.
Hope after your early start you get a rest sometime. Hope DD enjoys her first day.
Hills how old are the people. Not the DS. Can you find a quiet space when they are annoying. I used to drive with a flask, snack and book or magazine to a lovely fell with beautiful views for an hour. I felt much more able to deal with it then. It is DH in this house.

Cloud ouch wisdom teeth are awful. I had to have mine out. Is the dentist still free when you are pregnant / one year?

MrsTidy ah I remember it well but it isn’t happening so much now and the nightmares are further apart. Had one in Scotland that was really weird.

Hope I am planning to get back on board just not yet. Will be doing bathroom only today. It is very small so can be done quickly. Need to think about towel storage. No need to make a list I always have spares. Might do outside loo as other room today then other room tomorrow could be dining room that I started before going away.

Redsquirrel5 · 12/05/2021 10:48

Crossed posts.

Sorry it didn’t go wellDancing but maybe they liked that you kept calm and that you have a sense of humour. That was asked when I went for an interview once.

Hope that sounds very funny.

I am not good with ICT my children roll their eyes, huff or walk away. I do like the iPad they bought me but it probably does a lot more than I know about.

I can use the Internet.
Post on here.
I can take photos.
I can send emails.
I can add photos on here...thanks Sing and I can add them to emails.
I can use the alarm. I can change the ringtone for the alarm.

I sound like a kid evaluating my lesson. When I was forced to teach it I bought a kids book and was one week ahead of them! 7-8, and 8-9yrs.🤣

Redsquirrel5 · 12/05/2021 10:50

Goes to shed to look for spade for Dancing green house is still not up so base flags are available.

SingToTheSky · 12/05/2021 11:01

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/05/2021 11:33

Phew. Done. DBS has come back too so I am officially ready to start my role! I’m so excited!

Now onto watching part of a documentary that is about to disappear from iplayer. After that I might need to officially switch my brain off.

SingToTheSky · 12/05/2021 14:57

ta da so far
🦆helped get Cagletini ready
🦆shower
🦆3hr safeguarding training
🦆watched half hour of documentary with DS

Then in the last hour or so:
🦆bedding in dryer
🦆LOL (3 big items)
🦆emptied last few bits of DW
🦆filled DW with crockery
🦆stacked pots/food processor stuff ready for DW
🦆cleaned hob (how does it get so gross SO QUICKLY?)
🦆cleaned half of counter
🦆quick clean of sink
🦆put yesterday’s LOL away
🦆gathered dirty laundry

Just chilling for a few minutes now but I’m painfully aware I REALLY must get on with some admin stuff today.

So:
To Do
📌read and reply to message from charity work coach
📌rejig sheets in dryer and switch it back on (I can hear it beep but there’s no way it’s dry yet! The sensor isn’t great with bedding)
📌book second covid jab
📌email computer receipt to jobcentre coach
📌fill in feedback form for my training
📌email volunteer coordinator about availability etc
📌clean off irrelevant stuff from weekly planner (yes this was meant to be done on Sunday but better late than never)
📌check diary and refill weekly planner (as above)

📌look at subscribe and save - think I need to cancel an order
📌print out info about booking online parents evening so I don’t have to keep switching apps
📌fold up washed handmedowns we are keeping into bags by size

But also
📌eat something shortly and take a rest when I need to!

It was an older man who really didn't realise how it would come across dancing. I remember thinking - I can't believe what I'm seeing..

I carry my laptop that way myself but never while on a call!!

I'm ok in one to one conversations, very small groups.big rooms of people are a hard no.i am not on any level a social butterfly.
I feel awkward, look awkward and lose capacity to speak.im afraid of embarrassing her in both my actions and way I look.my everyday bag lady look is fine in my own environment, but not at a wedding...
Her dad's gf is planning to hire a hair and make up artist for the day,and has offered pay dd1 use it too.mother of groom is one of those women who always looks immaculate in make up and co ordinated.shes bubbly and confident...
If I could avoid going I'm ashamed to say I would so as she won't be ashamed to admit I'm her mumSad
I've said chose what you want and I will wear it.bridesmaids are wearing navy, groom grey suit and navy now tie

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/05/2021 18:44

I have no idea what was deleted. hope you ok dancing

Ds was spared the migraine. that was MEeeee today Hmm
he is not great ergo blood tests. and was off after the bloods so i did not pick a fight.
i went into work. i wish i hadnt tbh. I ended up ignoring co worker emails by the afternoon, closing email down and just getting on with the paperwork.

had to pick up some stuff for cooking tea. As i cant eat it i thought fuck it and treated myself to some donuts. only thought to check the ingredients AFTER i had eaten 2. BIG Mistake. So hoping i can avoid a&e because i just want to crawl into bed and sleep atm. I am soooo tired.

LMS with people. And basically told them if they wanted to play games it was fine but they couldnt have it both ways and they were out of line. People are now sulking.

Teen helped me make tea without any fuss and without much asking.

And i found out a good friend has died.

Some days are just shit

SingToTheSky · 12/05/2021 18:47

Don’t worry hills MN is just running a bit odd today and it duplicated (errr quadruplicated?) dancing’s post :)

I’ve had a pretty productive day. Just had a delicious dinner thanks to DH (pork in creamy mushroom sauce) :) I don’t think I’ll get much else done today.

foxessocks · 12/05/2021 18:58

Sorry about your friend hills FlowersSad

Sorry I've gone completely AWOL, I hope to catch up at some point. So busy at the moment. Finally caught up with a bit of flying today but I'm still looking around and seeing dust everywhere Hmm
