Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

I am so tired I am not doing anything.

Welcome cloud.

My June babies are going to be 30 and 41. My mum was a June baby too.

Agree that not killing anyone in Ikea is a huge plus at the best of times never mind in Covid times. We don’t have one near here so I don’t even have to consider it.

Dancingtomusic · 11/05/2021 20:53

🤦‍♀️

Hills....i seriously will swap with you...cos they still arent asleep...ds now has foot pain and DD has cried and stomped out of her bed...telling me she is going to leave the country now....! (Coronavirus love- you might not get a flight 🙄)

(I told her she shud not wish her friends at school give her a present on her birthday 🤦‍♀️)

halfhope · 11/05/2021 20:54

I didn't mention but we don't have an IKEA near here either. Apparently the meatballs are nice. Take it easy Red. Remember with lockdown you are not going to be up to usual energy levels for travels and moving around.

Gosh Dancing it's all kicking off where you are. Does it help if I say childhood passes in a blink? no apparently not

Half- it was cold up there. On Friday morning we did go for a walk along the beach and DS2 went for a paddle. Brought home a few shells and two pieces of driftwood. Some sunshine between showers.

halfhope · 11/05/2021 20:56

What Red? It's positively tropical warmish

Yeah Hope I am peopled out! So much talking was done for hours it was good I had the cottage/ flat to myself. It was so clean and tidy. Came back to my messy bedroom.

DH has not done much cleaning and my lovely kitchen cupboards were filthy he hadn’t even noticed. I wiped a few but will give it my undivided attention tomorrow. It was lovely and clean when I left. 😭

Redsquirrel5 · 11/05/2021 21:06

DNephew 1 was at RG and is a bio chemist at the hospital. Sisters live
In small town nearer to Inverness. Beach was where we used to live 7 miles of it and another in bay.

Dancingtomusic · 11/05/2021 21:10

half- it does help, thank you.

its finally quiet...they are asleep.
We have been late to school in the morning so wishing they would sleep.

Sing- sorry you are having a flare up lovely, just do little bits. Sending you a hug.

Red you are back, sounds like you had a lovely time.

Zoo- your cats sounds funny...maybe not funny when the girls kibble reapears.

willow- oh no another leak...did you find its source?

🍒👋 to everyone Ed, up, foxes, hazel, Mc, ships, cloud, double, SC, and anyone else i forgot.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/05/2021 21:28

And once childhood is over, elderly parents take over Hmm
People in Ikea were always safe. The people here have had a few opinions expressed at them. Hmm

If it helps dancing ds was an absolute fucking night mare as a small child, as a teen he has been reasonable. The days feel long, the years are short is an expression that I muttered a lot when ds was little. especially when the toad refused to sleep at all or only slept on top (literally) of me.

Pst for bedtime refusers they are clearly not tired and thus must immediately start doing because if they aren't tired they can help. If you are unreasonable they are clearly tired and should probably wisely go to bed. Wink

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 11/05/2021 22:14

I remember using that logic Hills! 😁 The best time was when we were on holiday, walking home from the beach and DS3 was about 4 and whingeing about something. I said something like "if you're whingeing you must be tired, it's past bedtime" and he absolutely exploded and roared "I AM NOT TIRED" at the top of his voice. At which point someone in a nearby garden said "I think you are, young man!" in her best Headteacher voice! I giggled all the way home.

Glad the Fraggles are asleep now, Dancing. We have found the source of the second leak and the plumber is changing the pipe tomorrow.

Very glad you had a lovely time, Red and were able to see your poorly sister and the new baby.
DD and I got to Lidl, although shopping with her is like shopping with DH. All sorts of unexpected things end up in the trolley! I let her talk me into a box of cones and some raspberry ripple ice cream...

Right, must go to bed. I am running DD to work at 5.15 tomorrow morning 😭.

SingToTheSky · 11/05/2021 23:14

I’ve been ill today so I haven’t got anything done unfortunately we’ve pretty much just stayed in the flat. I’ve been shopping for some wallpaper for the kids room because it’s a little bit bare at the minute and I want to get it done before little man arrives so I might go to dunelm and pick up some rolls tomorrow. I’m struggling to eat as my wisdom tooth is pushing against a nerve and I can’t open my mouth very far so I need to buy some soups and pastas too and hopefully it’ll get better.
sing thank you💖 I hope you’re feeling better now do you think it’s hayfever?
half haha I know it’s huge isn’t it🤣thank you💖
mc ahh thanks she is cute if I do say so myself.
zoo I received 2 messages at the same time so think the first one didn’t send haha but have replied now. Your DC’s names are beautiful🥰. Your cats seem like proper characters🤣
willow oh no another leak!!
dancing haha I feel your bedtime pain I’m glad you’ve managed to get them to sleep💤
hills I’m glad you managed to have a nice IKEA experience the one by me is always so busy I’m scared to even try and go🤣 I hope you’re able to feel a bit better soon💖
red hi👋🏻 I’m glad you enjoyed your time away. My Nan is a June baby she’s hoping little man comes on her birthday🤣
I love the bored and tired tips I will keep them in mind!!!

Dancingtomusic · 12/05/2021 01:59

hills- i will try that thanks

willow- 🤣 brill!

Sing- you have done stuff, it more important than doing loads and breaking yourself. Its good you pace yourself.

Cloud- sorry to hear you were feeling ill, hope you feel better. Ouch wisdom teeth hurt alot but pushing on your nerve is worse...its not good you can open your mouth much. Try to do a salt gargle in that side of the mouth (if you can stand it) and see if it relieves any swelling there might be and hopefully allow you to open your mouth more so you can eat. (I worked as assisant to a Dentist for 2 years as a saturday job. I remember then saying salt gargle for most things. Worth a try.)

I am awake as I feel guilty i have not been reading books to the kids before bedtime. It may explain the meltdowns. I used to read 5 books and then have chats and discussions then finally they would fall asleep.
Stupid mum guilt. And my stupid left eye is starting to throb in a horrible way. Must put in eyes drops.
Sorry I havent replied to personals very much as I am worrying about stuff. I dont feel like myself. I think seeing the kids stuff scattered every where, has slighty broken my motivatiin.
I have piles of clean laundry that needs putting away....before it falls off the end of the bed.
Maybe a kallax style unit in the sitting room might help. Maybe I need to start doing lists.
I can see half my sitting room floor and I am seriously considering putting the kids stuff in bags and hiding it so they cant empty cupboards and get everything out.

hills- you are brave for braving ikea.

To do tomo;

  1. Get rid of charity bags near front door.
  2. Throw into the recycling, any kids artwork lying around on sitting room floor.
3.clear kids train table so they can use that as a desk...not the bloody floor.
  1. Use bedtime to fold and put away laundry.
  2. Sell the blooming large collection of Happyland sets. (Bashes head against a brick wall) why did I go crazy and buy it....it was 2nd hand charity shop stuff- wish i didnt buy it.

(Shuffles away....slightly very worn down by levels of stuff/junk in house....)
Goodnight everybody.

Tomorrow is a better day.

Hello people. Catching up a wee bit here, as i've been not exactly MIA, but brain was nipping with school-related complications and I've been waking around 4am for about a week now with stuff whirling round my head.

Getting stuck into more tidying and decluttering. Sorting and organising by choice can be so soothing. Until it becomes a way of avoiding everthing else, of course.

Just realised that my life is so boring that I've absolutely nothing else to say. Except to wish everyone as good a day as possible.

SingToTheSky · 12/05/2021 08:05

Hiya tidy nice to see you 💐

Not the best start to the day - Cagletini woke me up at 4.30 having wet the bed. Even if she’d been in a nappy she would have kicked it off by that time anyway, so I don’t feel too gutted, but argh. She was convinced it was morning so after a while she went downstairs with DH, he can doze while I’m in my last training session.

Feeling absolutely shocking TBH but hopefully I’ll feel a bit better once I’m up and moving. There are so many little tasks I really need to do ASAP and I’ve been in procrastination mode for too long.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 12/05/2021 08:08

Morning! (Or is it tea time already?) Been up since 4.20 when I met DD in the kitchen, both afraid we'd sleep through needing to get her work for 5.30 🤦.

Ta da
❤️ Cup of tea and chat with DD
🧡 Drove DD to work
💛 Walked the woof
💚 More tea in bed and a chat with DH so he could download FIL's horribly racist slightly difficult opinions on Voter ID ("we need it because of all the immigrants you know") before they drive him mad
💙 Made breakfast and frothy "coffee" for DS3
💜 Arranged to take the car back to the garage because my key fob needs a new battery that only a man in Ford overalls can fit, and the MOT and service seems to have buggered both the aircon and brought the oil warning light on 🤷
🤎 No washing to do!

From there on, today is bedlam:
🎪 DS3 in Comp Sci in 2 mins
🤹‍♀️ Rehearse Y6 assembly with DS3 at 9
🎪 Telephone appt at 10
🤹‍♀️ Y6 assby at 11
🎪 Collect DD from work at 12
🤹‍♀️ Dog to grooming at 12.30
🎪 Online meeting at 1
🤹‍♀️ Water softener man visiting at 2
🎪 Baked sweet potatoes and tuna for tea - need to make two kinds of tuna

Somewhere in there, the plumber continues to plumb, the music room continues to have a hole in the roof and we still can't find the living room. I want my house back.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/05/2021 08:46

If any of you do brave Ikea, let the carpark judge your decision to go in (ie don't even attempt if you aren't prepared to take 1 look at the carpark and leave if needed) Also be aware they are not taking cash atm. They have massive signs saying this, but yeah.

I have a really bad headache this morning. Ds has bloods and has begged permission to go back to bed after (he will be granted). I have work that I have to go in for. But urgh I would appreciate a duvet day.

I'd say Good Morning but it sounds like everyone is having one of THOSE days already.

cloud I can only echo the advice about warm salty water - it's natures antibiotic. I do hope you are feeling somewhat better Flowers.
Mrstidy your life is not at all boring. Well done on more decluttering. I don't think any of us are able to live an exciting life at the moment anyway what with lockdown etc. I haven't done anything spontaneous since ever (if I ever did...).

Cagletini is still doing well sing. I do like her attitude to night nappies even if it's not always helpful in the grand scheme of things.

Hills hope you are feeling better - i can well understand that a duvet day is more than deserved for you.

Willow - what an impressive feature in your ceiling Flowers. Wishing you an easier day and much softened water and working fobs.

Good morning to everyone else - waves enthusiastically given that it's mid-week. Today is anti procrastination day and we are still in the bathroom and one other room zone. I've done my zone cleaning for this week. Today I'm working in the morning but might get out for an amble later today if the heavy rain holds off.

as you were...Grin
